Joseph Fanizzi is an 18 year old soon-to-be freshman in college at Texas A&M University. After being born and raised on a hunting preserve and shooting ground in Florida, Joe was introduced to clay shooting at a young age. At the age of 13 he punched into Master Class and won his first High Overall Main Event Tournament shortly after that at the age of 14. Joe attributes most of his success to being surrounded by so many great people, influencers, role models, and mentors that took him under his wing and made him into the person he is today. In 2019 he was the Silver Medalist at the World English Sporting Clays Championship. While he was excited to have made a podium finish at the world championship at just the age of 16, he was also motivated and had a chip on his shoulder to work harder because he had been so close to achieving a life goal but was just short. Just weeks ago at the 2021 World FITASC Championship Joe had the honor of representing NSCA and Team USA in Hungary. After four days of competition Joe finished Silver Medalist once again at a World Event just a target shy of where he needed to be to bring home the gold medal and a world championship title. Joe believes the final result of this bittersweet outcome will make him a stronger individual and a better competitor in years to come. In this episode Joe reveals his story and life timeline of what turned him into who he is today and how he will approach this upcoming chapter of his life and the new beginnings. As Joe embarks on this next chapter he shares how he is looking forward to continuing his passion of clay target shooting and that the best is yet to come. Joe makes clear that at the end of the day his main goal in shooting when it is all said and done is to be remembered as being a respectable person with good character because that means more to him than any title achieved or accomplishment reached.
In this episode we welcome Joe Emrich, Market Director for Johnson Controls. In his role as the Market Director for Johnson Controls as well as a certified speaker, trainer and coach for the John Maxwell Team, Joe is able to work and help others expand their influence and effectiveness. At Johnson Controls, Joe's team of over 200 professionals serve their clients with building automation (Metasys), HVAC Equipment (York), Security and Fire, Technology Integration (Tyco, Simplex-Grinnell) and ongoing Services. Joe's primary responsibilities for this market include client satisfaction, market share growth, delivering predictable profits each month, and team talent development. Joe has held positions over his 31 year career in engineering, project management, energy solutions sales, along with branch and regional management. Community volunteer efforts include serving as Chairman of the Penn State Hershey Children's Miracle Network Advisory Board, Vice President of the AABE Harrisburg Chapter, and on additional boards the Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council (EMSDC) and Penn State Capital Campaign Board. Joe also serves as a mentor with the American Corporate Partners working with veterans transitioning from the military to private sector. Joe is also a certified speaker, trainer, and coach with the John Maxwell Team. He along with the other coaches have trained groups in both the USA as well as internationally. As Joe enters the second half of his career, his focus is shifting from success to significance. Success comes from meeting and exceeding personal goals but significance comes from helping others achieve and thrive in their own hopes, goals and dreams. This starts first with family, then to business and finally to the community and world.
First, we define Population Health. Then we talk about its influence on MedTech. In the USA, Population Health is NOT the same thing as Public Health. One can influence the other. However, Population Health is driven by value-based health systems to provide better care at a lower cost by being connected, engaged and anticipatory via their facilities and providers to their patients. Joseph Schulman, Senior VP Population Health, Business Transformation at Northwell Health joins us to discuss this area of health care that is so important to understand. The movement toward Population Health and value-based healthcare has big ramifications for the development of medical technologies. Is Population Health a serious endeavor? Well, Northwell thinks it is important enough to have 400 professionals on Joe's team to drive these initiatives. I have always been pessimistic about the US healthcare system. After talking to Joe for this podcast and Mark Dixon several weeks ago, I have hope. Why? Because people like Joe and Mark are moving healthcare in the right direction. And, they are very very determined to succeed. As Joe said, “We have to raise the bar on how we're doing and pursue all the tremendous opportunities to deliver incredible results.” Yes, he is dedicated and determined. For international listeners, I would be curious to hear if their healthcare systems are taking a similar approach. Now Go Win Your Week! Jason Stuart talks the ups and downs of his career, writing his book, and a few audition stories that will make your jaw drop! About Jason: When you think one of the most prolific character actors, who's also an outrageous openly gay stand-up comedian, one name comes to mind…. Jason Stuart. Stuart has been asking this question for the last few years. When you break the ground do you get to walk on it? After years of steady work in film & television and on stage, with over 250 credits on his IMDB page, Jason Stuart has achieved a pinnacle of success. “For the last few years, people have started to approach me and say ‘you're that guy,'” he explains with his characteristic gravelly laugh. Stuart is the co-star, co-writer and co-producer of the hit Amazon comedy series “Smothered" along with Mitch Hara. The outrageous series tells the tale of a longtime hateful gay Jewish couple who cannot stand each other... BUT can't afford to get divorced. He also just completed an episode of "Goliath" starring Billy Bob Thornton opposite J.K. Simmons on Amazon. Currently he is featured in the thriller "Immortal" opposite Samm Levine, starring Dylan Baker, Tony Todd and Robin Barlett. As “Joe”, a private detective who deals with spy equipment, available now on demand. Stuart has received rave reviews and the film has received several award nominations and wins. Li approached Stuart with the part of Hank after watching his performances in the Sundance hits “Tangerine" as “Joey the doorman”, the comedy made on iPhone and the historical drama, "The Birth Of A Nation" — the latter Stuart's breakthrough performance as a southern plantation owner. His autobiography "Shut Up, I'm Talking!" has been getting great reviews on Amazon from CCB Publishing. It's the funny, poignant story of a gay Jewish boy whose life changed after seeing "Funny Girl" at a second-run movie theatre in Hollywood. “I thought to myself, I'm in love with Omar Sharif – who am I left to be but Barbra Streisand! And I'm a guy... Oy!” It's about surviving a crazy family who survived the Holocaust and clearing up the wreckage of one's past while learning how to become a man. As is his new stand up comedy Album “I'm The Daddy And I Have Candy”. His work as an activist has always been a big part of his life. He has stated that “when you go up in the elevator of success, take people with you”. With that said, Stuart is currently the National Co-Chair of the SAG AFTRA LGBT Committee. He was honored with the Jose Julio Sarria International Civil Rights Award, which was presented by the International Imperial Court System and The Persist Award for his work with the union. I'm continuing to think about hustle culture. I've pushed hard, been flexible, and worked weekends while establishing myself. Join us in this week’s podcast as John Malanca interviews Joe Dolce, the former editor-in-chief of Details magazine. Follow this remarkable individual as he discusses the history, future and truths, myths, and the common misconceptions surrounding pot/marijuana/cannabis...call it what you will, it’s all good for you!Our podcast will delight you as Joe and John discuss the ever-evolving world of cannabis. Whatever it has been called, cannabis has a long history of human use and helpful benefits. Dolce explains the historical relevance of the cannabis plant, its descent into the forbidden and finally into a Schedule I illegal “drug” and back again, state by state, while remaining federally illegal. As Joe travels around the world seeking societal input on whether cannabis is helpful or not, he will surprise and delight with tales of cannabis’ success, its history of prohibition, the welcomed surprise of those who use it for medical purposes and the fight which continues for full acceptance of this ancient plant. As Malanca and Dolce discuss the political landscape and its influence on marijuana, we find that perhaps we don’t know the truth about this sacred herb and that the answers to questions inevitably lead to more questions about cannabis! Tune in to watch something a bit different, yet very relevant in today’s world, and so very helpful when you ask yourself, “Should I use cannabis? Is it a dangerous ‘drug’? Do stoners know something I don’t and if cannabis is so effective in the treatment of disease and symptoms why are powers beyond my control dictating my health and wellness choices?”Some of the questions and their answers will enlighten your mind, warm your heart, fuel your anger and perhaps confirm what you knew or change what you thought was the truth.Tune in to see!Podcast Video Interview: https://youtu.be/QcilUNDFkaA

Every small-cap investor is concerned about revenue growth and profitability. But executive compensation needs to be driven by incentives that are company specific versus one-size-fits-all. Listen to Joe talk about one of his portfolio companies and how large a portion of executive compensation is focused upon key performance metrics other than EBITDA and revenue. As Joe adroitly points out, getting executive compensation right is about in-depth company/industry knowledge as much as it is about what’s actually going to motivate a given management team. It’s one thing to have a great career in investment banking, a standout career in law, or be a long-tenured institutional investor; Joseph Manko, Jr. has done all three. In his senior role at The Horton Fund, Joe now has a front row seat daily to the unique boardroom challenges faced by small-cap companies. SCI is confident that you’ll learn from his candid, poignant observations.

Last year was a tough year. This year has gotten off to a rocky start. Many of us – on more than one occasion – have thrown up our hands and said, “Why God? Why is this happening?” Joe Hoover, a Jesuit brother, actor and writer, asked this very question in his new book, O Death, Where is Thy Sting? He asked it again and again as he reflected back on experiences his had throughout his own life: experiences in El Salvador, experiences at the gravesides of young people, experiences coping with 9/11 and the wars that followed. Suffering, as it turns out, is not a question easily answered. But it is one that demands contemplation – that very Ignatian approach to prayer. As Joe discusses in today’s episode, sometimes it just is, and we’re left to stand in wonder and awe, shock and horror at this unavoidable part of human existence. Nevertheless, there is hope to be found. And Joe speaks to that, too. Check out Joe's book: https://www.orbisbooks.com/o-death-where-is-thy-sting.html

In Edible-Alpha® podcast #79, Tera is joined by Joe Tomandl, Executive Director for the Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship (DGA). This first-of-its-kind program launched in 2011 and trains aspiring dairy farmers on managed grazing, a regenerative system that carries major impact for the environment, food systems, and rural prosperity. Explaining the genesis of DGA, Joe noted that independent dairy farms have been declining for decades in Wisconsin, contributing to the demise of rural communities. One reason is it’s tough to teach the myriad aspects of dairy farming, especially managed grazing, in a classroom. Seeing the success of trade apprenticeships, Joe realized this was this ideal model for onboarding new farmers. So, DGA was born, offering 3,700 hours of paid, hands-on training plus 300 hours of classroom instruction. Along with providing a natural, low-overhead onramp for new farmers through workforce training, education, and networking, the program also benefits current farmers seeking assistance or eventual successors. Knowing that the pathway to dairy was similarly difficult outside of Wisconsin, DGA expanded nationwide in 2015. It now has a presence in 15 states, with 200 approved training farms and 45 apprentices currently in the program. Next, Joe and Tera explored the philosophy behind managed grazing. Put simply, it involves rotating cows through paddocks of permanent grass and ground cover to have them do as much of the forage harvesting and manure spreading as possible. This natural approach is a far cry from conventional systems, which require a ton of time, money, and fuel. But this isn’t simply opening a fence and shooing the cows out. It’s an art, requiring farmers to meticulously monitor fields, forage, and weather patterns to ensure cows hit each paddock at the optimum growth, density, and nutrition stage. Done right, this approach increases field productivity over time. It also has major environmental benefits. Whereas conventional dairy farmers till and expose soil, causing rains to sweep phosphorous and manure into watersheds, managed grazing keeps soil covered, which reinvigorates the soil, prevents runoff, and sequesters carbon. Plus, the carbon-generating fuel inputs are drastically less, and grazing cows, with their nutrient-producing ruminant stomachs, help revitalize ecosystems. Now DGA is looking to scale the system for max impact. As Joe put it, “there is incredible opportunity within managed grazing dairy system to address big challenges—from nutrient-dense food to processing and distribution systems to climate, soils, water, and environment—with independent farms where the land base is matched much closer to what the livestock-carrying capacity is.” As industries look to go net zero in the coming decades, managed-grazing operations can help them achieve their goals while also uplifting rural communities. But scaling this system will require innovative finance and impact investors to step up, more consumers to demand sustainably produced dairy and the value proposition for farmers to be realized. DGA is on a mission to line up these variables and move managed grazing mainstream to benefit the climate, the food system, farm succession, and rural prosperity. Learn more about impact investing and innovators like DGA at our upcoming Edible-Alpha® Live! Event!
At age 27, Joe Decker was out of shape and out of hope. He was an alcoholic and drug addict who had just hit rock bottom. Three years later, Joe broke the Guinness Record for World’s Fittest Man. He got there - from out of hope to Fittest Man - by mastering the goal setting process, and that’s the focus for today’s conversation. Host Johnny Waite talks to Joe about: -Joe’s starting point. As we said, he was at rock bottom and could barely run a mile. He decided to fill the void with fitness. -Using baby steps as you climb to reach your goal. As Joe says, “you have to be able to run a 5k to run 150 miles.” -Balancing patience with optimism. What we mean here is, often times the optimism when first setting a goal makes you overwork yourself and potentially burnout. Joe is all about patience and setting manageable goals. -Executing: After you’ve set a goal, prepared and are at the event, it’s time to get robotic. Get out of your head and focus on the next task. Background on Joe Decker: Joe Decker is recognized as “The Worlds Fittest Man,” an ultra-endurance power athlete, renowned fitness trainer, and syndicated columnist who has helped thousands of women, men, kids and seniors get into shape and lose weight. This outdoor workout format that Joe created is the same that he used to break the Guinness World Records® 24-Hour Physical Fitness Challenge in 2000. How do you define success? Is it a continuous cash flow? Large streams of income? Or is it something beyond a dollar amount? What if there was something larger in scale that carried more weight than gold? Our guest this week dispels the myth that wealth is more than commas in your bank account. This week, I am speaking with Joe DeMaria, Owner of Teach to Scale, about leveraging relationships and why cash flow is a poor indicator of success. Being one of the most sought after course creation consultants, Joe helps coaches, consultants, and peak performers create online courses and group coaching programs to increase their transformative impact on their audiences, expand their product offerings, and create new pillars of revenue in their businesses. According to Joe Polish, "[Joe DeMaria is] … one of the top course creators on the planet and has unique talent with taking expertise and packaging it." As Joe shares his personal journey of leveraging relationships, we discuss the importance of surrounding yourself with those levels above you. When you seek out mentors to help guide you, you begin to level up in more ways than the dollars in your pocket. True connections and long-lasting relationships go further than simple $1 for $1 transactions. Topics Discussed: How to leverage relationships that benefit every one involved Why seeking out cash only stifles your growth What separates successful business owners from those who quit early The lessons learned from hiring a powerful mentor Why success isn’t defined by a number in your bank account Learn More About Start to Finish Marketing Visit: www.starttofinishmarketing.com Connect with Joe DeMaria Attend Office Hours: https://www.teachtoscale.com/office-hours-invitation/ Get on a Call with Joe: https://www.teachtoscale.com/teach-to-scale-course-curriculum-builder/
On this first episode of Season Two, Joe is joined by psychotherapist and author, Dr. Hani Miletski. Hani is located in Bethesda, Maryland, with her private practice. She has trained and supervised therapists and professionals in the field of human sexuality throughout the world. Plus, she is the author of two books, including the clinically revered, Mother-Son Incest: The Unthinkable Broken Taboo Persists. On this show, Joe and Hani discuss one of the most taboo sexual subjects out there; mother-son incest. As Joe says, “When a man sexually abuses it’s more overt. But when a woman does it, particularly a mother, it’s more covert.” Hani agrees, and goes on to point out that most mother-son incest perpetrators tend to be, “very needy women.” Despite society’s denial of it, mother-son incest does happen, but most people don’t want to think about it, talk about it, or do anything about it. Let’s find out why….
The impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the hair industry and high street is beginning to show. For many of us, it's scary times ahead for our businesses. And for todays episode we're addressing this very real and sobering topic with former guest of the show, Joe Mills. With 50% less footfall for many cities and towns in the UK, both hair salons and barbershops are feeling the devastating effects of this on their businesses post lockdown. With a fast changing environment like never seen before for businesses, theirs a big dilemma facing the hair industry. Is that dilemma reducing outgoings, keeping the doors open or maybe pivoting the business model??? Returning back to the show today to discuss this topic in an open and very honest way is Joe Mills, a highly respected mens session stylist and owner of leading London hairdressers 'The Lounge Soho' and 'Jo and Co Barbershop'. With workers and tourists not coming back into London in a COVID-19 world, Jo is seeing all around him the devastating effects of high street brands – big and small brands - closing down. And this is spreading to all areas of the UK. As Joe says, "If the hair industry doesn't change soon then we're heading for a car crash!" Rather than sitting there and waiting for that magic day when footfall comes flooding back into his business, Joe is fighting back through a new partnership with Shortcut App. This app is allowing him and his team to taking the professional outfit of his barbershop businesses directly into the clients homes. Joe will be sharing with us all today how this works, along with the debate on why now, more than ever, one voice is needed for an industry battling to keep it's head above the water, just! It's a gripping and honest listen on the harsh realities facing the UK high street in 2020. What do U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders, Angus King, and Lisa Murkowski and rapper Kanye West have in common? They’ve all been third-party candidates! But, three of them have been legitimate third-party candidates, and one is more of a spoiler. Tune in to this special episode to learn what a third-party candidate means for your campaign and how you need to respond. A third-party candidate running in your race could just be a perennial candidate who runs for office as a hobby, or it could be a real threat to your chances of winning. As Joe and Martín point out, the worst thing you can do is ignore them. Also be sure to check out The Campaign Workshop’s Where’s Kanye? My guest this week is Dr. Joseph Luciani, author of a book called Unlearning Anxiety & Depression: The 4-Step Self-Coaching Program to Reclaim Your Life. Joe and I explored some of his background in more depth-oriented psychology, especially a Jungian approach where we explore symbols and dreams and archetypes, and his transition to a more action-oriented style. We got into some pretty interesting territory, especially about the spiritual implications of psychotherapy. As Joe said, if we truly learn that we can handle whatever life throws at us, everything changes. That’s good news, of course, because you can handle any challenge, just like you have already to make it this far. Other topics we covered included: What self-coaching is, and its relation to motivation How traditional talk-therapy may be too passive at times, and not the most empowering approach The difficulty in giving up therapy after investing a lot in it The view that anxiety and depression are learned, and can be unlearned Worry as the quintessential defensive strategy Dissociating from the reflexiveness of worry The fantasy of what-ifs Our innate superstition The distinction between problem solving and worrying Humans as survival machines Trusting that we will find what we need when we’re on the path Managing anxiety and depression as a spiritual practice Liberation as the overarching goal of psychotherapy My guest’s spiritual impressions The faith and trust needed to let go of certainty The neurosurgeries of Wilder Penfield The distinction between coping and healing Coping strategies as ways of controlling fate Anxiety and depression as possible coping mechanisms Dealing with the stress and anxiety of the ongoing pandemic Separating emotional fictions from facts The power of trusting that we can handle what life throws at us Joseph Luciani, PhD, has been a practicing clinical psychologist for more than 40 years. He’s the international bestselling author of the Self-Coaching series of books, published in ten languages. Joe's articles have been featured in many national magazines and newspapers, including Redbook, Cosmopolitan, O The Oprah Magazine, USA Today, Health, Shape, and others. He appears regularly on national TV, radio, and online. Find Joe online at his website and on Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook. Amazon links on this page are affiliate links.

In today's Solidarity Fridays episode, Joe and Kyle sit down and discuss recent items in the news, including the passing of Tav Sparks; author, therapist, co-director of Grof Transpersonal Training, and creator of "Movie Yoga," and scientist Jordi Riba; one of the early pioneers of ayahuasca research and one of the first ever to bring it into the lab. They discuss the ayahuasca episode of the new Netflix docuseries "Unwell," and 2 articles from Marijuana Moment: psychedelic activists in Oakland creating a guideline for plant medicine healing ceremonies and the new initiative to allow for legal use in controlled settings, and 4 state attorney generals and 50 current and former law enforcement officials sending a letter to Congress endorsing a federal marijuana legalization bill after a recent poll showed that 62% of likely voters support it. As Joe says, "It's about time... 20 years ago." And lastly, they discuss Bright Minds Biosciences' recent tweet claiming that the future is in what they're working on: modifying molecules in psilocybin to reduce trip times from 4-6 hours to 60-90 minutes. While this could be huge for people who can't safely partake in longer trips, and more specifically for sufferers of cluster headaches, they wonder about intention: is this for the betterment of mankind or just for profit and headlines? Isn't sitting with the trip part of the healing? Isn't integration afterward even more important? Is this a new tool/solution, or a band-aid? Is it all of the above? This leads to Kyle sharing that a friend of his recently committed suicide, and the reminder that we all need to practice self-care- it's never been more important than it is now in our current disconnected, online, fearful, COVID lives- even the smallest effects of what's going on can take a big psychological toll. Remember to take care of yourselves, folks. Notable Quotes “We just need more and more drugs, but we have to be able to see through this marketing junk so we know how to appropriately contextualize it, and not just fall prey to ‘Oh cool, this is the right drug. This is the best drug, it has the most research behind it.’ Subtext: this just had the most pharma dollars behind it.” -Joe “Do we really need these fast solutions? I think, on one hand, yes, because some people are definitely going to kill themselves tomorrow. At least 22+ veterans are going to kill themselves tomorrow, which is horrible- and today, and yesterday and every day until we have some sort of good intervention, or the numbers go [down]. It’s really tough. But also, no. Are we just slapping a band-aid on and saying, ‘cool, go get sick again’?” -Joe “When I think about these quick, band-aid-like substances, like, ‘Oh yes, you can just do your healing.’ Well, this is where the integration comes in. Do you have that support network? Are you living a life that feels like it’s in balance with how you want to live? Are you surrounded by good people? Are you surrounded by that community? Are you taking care of yourself?” -Kyle “Scary shit, but as a species, we’ll get through it. Individual tragedies don’t usually slow down the machine of human progress. And we’re going to see a continually exciting series of events, I think, for the next 70 years. So I don’t think, you and I, in our lifetime, Kyle, are going to get bored. We might be horrified at times, we might be amazed at times, but we’re going to see slow progress.” -Joe Links Tav Sparks' bio and obituary Jordi Riba's obituary 60 Minutes: Researchers experimenting with psychedelics to treat addiction, depression and anxiety The dark side of wellness: behind a Netflix series on a murky industry Daniel Moler's Mothervine Advocates Unveil Guide For Psychedelic Healing Ceremonies They Hope To Legalize In Oakland Top State Cops Tell Congress To Legalize Marijuana As New Poll Shows Strong Voter Support Bright Minds Biosciences's tweet brightmindsbio.com Support the show Patreon Leave us a review on Facebook or iTunes Share us with your friends Join our Facebook group - Psychedelics Today group – Find the others and create community. On the pod, Ben chats with Joe Van Deren, who he met about a year ago while he was walking El Camino de Santiago in Spain. Although Joe is young, he has made a conscious decision to dedicate his life to experiences, learning, and travelling. Joe just finished up his first year as a math teacher in Morocco, and he's now beginning the next step in his passion story. If you're interested in exploring new places and leaving your comfort zone, you're going to want to listen to what Joe has to say. As Joe mentions in the pod, you can contact him at jgvanderen64@gmail.com.
We welcome long time broadcaster and accomplished podcaster, Al Sotto, from https://www.belowthebeltshow.com/ (Below The Belt Show), to join Art, Lex, and their friend Kenny. Our first topic is what’s more likely to be bullshit, the moon landing or the existence of Bigfoot. As Joe correctly and brilliantly (bet you can’t guess who writes these descriptions) points out, there’s something truly peculiar about that image of the flag on the moon... Our second topic is what’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever put in your mouth. Get your mind out of the gutter! Al’s question didn’t have any sexual innuendo... it was just bland. Our third topic is nerd culture. Kenny waxes poetic about the acceptability of being a dweeb in today’s culture. We have met the enemy and it is us. Our final topic is your favorite drunk stories. Surprisingly, the time Art shit his pants didn’t make the cut.

Mike Taravella and co host Will Coleman interview Joe Fairless Co Founder and Partner of Ashcroft Capital. Key Information: When Joe first started he learned valuable lessons, for example your investments need to be well capitalized. You shouldn’t rely on the cash flow of the property for your capital expenditures. He was also not as focused on the quality of areas he invested in. He now focuses on deals that meet his medium income and crime requirements. As Joe’s business has grown he has brought on new team members on the acquisition and underwriting side. On the asset management side Joe has gone from working on the property himself to hiring a team that is still very hands on for the properties they are managing. Hiring is key when it comes to creating your company culture. Joe mentions that he asks himself “knowing what I know now would I hire this person” after they have worked for the company for a few months. If the answer is no, it may be time to go in different directions. Expert Pro Tip: The secret to living is giving. This week in Disney News, "it's a small world" in Disney World is rumoured to be getting some new Disney character animatronics. A big secret will be revealed at D23 on the 22nd. Sea's sea-based (duh) with many different lands. We take a counterclockwise walk through the park and discuss our experiences in each section. Like Disneyland Tokyo, the shows reign supreme in Sea. A tradition of family cookouts in his youth was the inspiration for Joe Zavala to buy his first smoker when he and his wife Christan became homeowners. As Joe tinkered with his cooks and his brisket game grew stronger, he launched an ambitious (but not exactly profitable) plan to cook and deliver his barbecue to customers all over the Dallas and Fort Worth area. With encouragement from Christan and longtime friends C.J. and Drew, Zavala’s Barbecue began serving in pop up form at a few events in the Grand Prairie area. Word was quickly spreading about the quality of food they were producing, and soon Zavala’s was serving their food every Saturday at The Brass Bean in Grand Prairie. As the buzz continued, Zavala’s would cook as much as their smokers could hold, but the sellout sign would still be posted within a few hours of opening as the locals couldn’t get enough of Joe and crew’s smoked meats. They began looking for a more permanent spot to be able to cook and serve, and eventually found an old building in downtown Grand Prairie. With the Zavala’s crew all having full time jobs and family obligations, they are currently only open Saturdays for lunch, but that may change in the future. In the meantime, Joe's wife Christan will be utilizing the restaurant space during the week as she opens Mas Coffee Co., which will be serving Zavala’s Barbecue breakfast tacos. The word is definitely out about the high quality menu being served by this talented team. There’s a line every Saturday, and for good reason. With peppery, well cooked brisket, housemade sausages and Mexican influenced menu items, Zavala’s Barbecue is a place BBQ fans need to get to.
