Tanglers and the Time Machine: Adventures in Pop Culture

This week the Tanglers head back to Vancouver in 1998 for the NBA Draft to discuss the rise and fall of the turn of the century Sacramento Kings who were dubbed "The Greatest Show on Court" But first, in WOTN, they discuss the upcoming Back to the Future Musical, The live action Barbie movie, Kate Bush, and the third installment of My Big Fat Greek Wedding

This week the Tanglers head back in time 15 years to beautiful sunny Santa Barbara for the premiere of Psych! But first, in WOTN, they discuss the potential for a Sweet Home Alabama sequel, the Leverage reboot, the new Interview with a Vampire tv show from AMC, and Clerks III. The Tanglers round out their 2006 research by examining the Al Michaels trade, Russian cosmonauts hitting golf balls in space, Dick Cheney's marksmanship skills, Pirate's of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest, and Casino Royale. Also, they somehow managed to literally ruin the show they went back in time to celebrate!

This week the Tanglers take a break from their normal adventures in Pop Culture to share an interview performed by Professor Pop Ryan Aday, and edited by Producer Bob.  Ryan talks with the cast and creator of Psych at the premier of the first Psych Movie.  This interview should help you get ready for next weeks adventure, when the Tanglers will travel back to July 2006 for the premiere of Psych!

Joined by Guest Tangler's Producer Bob and Professor Pop Ryan Aday:  This week the Tanglers head to Half Moon Bay in July, 2007.  The only possible place for a deep dive on Birdemic! They discuss their history and relationship with Birdemic as well as some of their favorite scenes and quotes from the film.  Everyone debates whether or not the film was intentionally terrible, and Professor Pop and Producer Bob ace the trivia round. Oh, and somehow they managed to not disrupt the space-time continuum at all.  A first for the Tanglers.

Joined by Returning Guest Tangler Eric Hafemann, Eric was a contestant on the 38th season of Survivor:  Edge of Extinction:  Much to Eric's disappointment, the Tangler's stay in the present this week for an entire episode dedicated to "What's Old That's News" They discuss Cobra Kai, The Garbage Pail Kids, Rom-Coms, TMNT, Michael Keaton's Batman, Wedding Crashers, Fletch, 90's Action Blockbusters, Transformers, Jurassic Park, and the Matrix.

Walter Bush, Author of Unpacking Chuck, a Character Study on the Beloved Series:  This week the Tanglers head to the Buy More Electronics store in Burbank, CA, on January 27th, 2012 for the Finale of Chuck, titled “Chuck vs The Goodbye”. They discuss some of the deeper themes present throughout the show as well as some of their favorite episodes, moments, and characters.  Oh, and somehow they managed to make Carlie Ray Jepsen's ‘Call Me Maybe' Billboard's Song of the Decade.

Also, they somehow managed to make the entire Star Wars catalog available on HD DVD only, while also eliminating bitcoin and increasing the value of legacy media by 10,000%.

Joined by Guest Tangler Chris Antista, Chris hosts such podcasts as Laser Time, Thirty Twenty Ten, and Vidjagame Apocalypse:  This week the Tanglers head to North Caldwell New Jersey, in January of 1999 right after the series premiere of The Sopranos. They discuss their history and relationship with HBO as well as some of their favorite shows, and how the network changed TV for all of us. Oh, and somehow they managed to get Bill Bellamy a ten year contract to host the oscars, while saving Tara Reid's career, and booting Carson Daly out of the limelight.

Joined by Guest Tangler Matthew Allen, Matt was once a Disneyland Cast Member and now he Co-Hosts the Vidjagame Apocalypse Podcast on the Lasertime network:  This week the Tanglers head to Disneyland, on August 23rd, 2005 during the 50th anniversary of the park. They discuss their history and relationship with the park as well as some of their favorite attractions, how the park has changed over the years, and some of their best and worst experiences.   The Tanglers work together for a co-op round of Trivia where Matt really shows his stuff, and they round out their discussion with a lightning round of Disneyland Favorites. Oh, and somehow they managed to turn Megan Fox into Black Widow, and prevent one of Hollywood's favorite couples from existing.

Also, they may have turned Ask Jeeves into the largest employer in the united states while putting Jeff Bezos out of business and derailing the careers of both Ron Howard and Ralph Fiennes.

Joined by Guest Tangler Kevin Nolan:  This week the Tanglers head back to Burkittsville, Maryland in October of 1994, when the events that were depicted in the Blair Witch Project were unfolding... Allegedly. They discuss the rise of the horror film genre, some of their personal favorites, as well as movies and moments that had them genuinely terrified. After a quick stroll through the town Kevin shares about his experiences with ghost hunting, from the equipment used to what it's like going on actual investigations.  He was also kind enough to tell us about some of his personal run-ins with the supernatural and unexplained. Oh, and somehow they managed to delay the existence of an entire film genre, create "Star Trek 2:  Doves in Space", and completely shut down the new Star Wars sequels...  Again.  But at least they figured out a way to give the world a little more Jar Jar Binks. Also, they may have turned Milli Vanilli into a cultural phenomenon spanning three decades with no end in sight.

Joined by Expert Tangler Producer Bob:  This week the Tanglers head back to the Redwoods of Humboldt County in Northern California on December 10th, 1996, a month before the special editions start to hit theaters. They discuss what makes Star Wars so special, what the original trilogy got right, where the prequels went wrong, and what held the the Disney trilogy back from being truly exceptional.  They also discuss their favorite films, and share some of their favorite characters and moments from the entire Star Wars Universe. After a hotly contested round of trivia they name the King of Star Wars Trivia, and round out their deep dive by discussing the future of Star Wars. The Tanglers round out their 2000 research by examining Elián González, Rotten Tomatoes, Big Brother, Geena Davis, Destiny's Child, Third Eye Blind, Eiffel 65, 28 Days, American Psycho, Keeping the Faith, MI:2, and Gladiator. Also, they may have ruined Beyoncé while catapulting Kelly Rowland aka "K-Row" to superstardom.  

Joined by Expert Tangler Jon Armstrong:  This week the Tanglers head back to Comic-Con, on July 24th, 2010, for a deep dive on the Marvel Cinematic Universe!  They discuss what makes the MCU stand out over other comic book movies, some of their favorite films, heroes, and villains.  They crown the King of MCU Trivia, and round out their deep dive by discussing what's ahead for the MCU Oh, and they may have derailed the Twilight hype train, and turned Scott Pilgrim vs. the World into a smash box office hit.

The Tanglers round out their 1985 research by examining Moonlighting, Punky Brewster, the 80's fascination with wealth on TV, Yie Ar Kung Fu, Paperboy, music by REO Speedwagon and Billy Ocean, the Police Academy films, LadyHawke, and Back to the Future. Also, they inadvertently launched the Stoltziverse while ruining one of the most beloved film trilogies of all time.

Fox & Spin City, Blue by Eiffel 65, The Skulls, Bring It On, and Mission Impossible 2. And they may or may not have ruined streaming for everyone.
