Join your favorite TransAtlantic podcasting crew – Ian and Liam (B-Tech Kev & Megs are off hitting the heavy bag) – as we're heading to The Hit Pit to step into the ring for a tale of grit, heartbreak, and emotional uppercuts in Million Dollar Baby (2004). Your prizefighting pair, Ian and Liam are joined by our own special trainer, BFF of the BFE: Shai Bergerfroind to teach us the ropes of this Clint Eastwood critical darling. We're trading in our cornfields for boxing gloves and diving into our 271st episode as we discuss: How Hilary Swank, Clint Eastwood, and Morgan Freeman all deliver Oscar-worthy punches. Can this movie still pack a punch if you're not a boxing fan? Is this a sports movie or another relationship movie using sports as a backdrop? Was the emotional KO in the final act earned or below the belt? How Million Dollar Baby jabs at themes of ambition, identity, and the cost of chasing glory. What is the price of excellence?  What is the cost of guilt? How crucial is the final bell – does the ending seal the legacy? Did Maggie Fitzgerald get robbed by fate? What about Frankie's corner man heartbreak? Who does Shai think had a vendetta against Clint Eastwood?  Who do they think Shai may have as a 2nd persona? Is there a certain type of viewer that just can't deal with the unexpected ending Whether Million Dollar Baby is the undisputed Best Film Ever.

And she's been so good at it for so long that she only started to get truly recognized for her work in her 60s. Three Emmys later, she's able to pick and choose what she wants to do. Her latest, the Amazon series “The Sticky,” finds her number one on the call sheet and having a blast playing the bombastic maple syrup farmer Ruth Landry. This week, we're saddling up and getting back to our old ways, shootin' some fellas who may or may not deserve it, but deserves ain't got nothin' to do with it either way. It's 1992's Unforgiven, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, Richard Harris, Jaimz Woolvett, Saul Rubinek, Frances Fisher, Anna Thomson and a blink-and-you'll-miss-him Lachlyn Munro. A revisionist western primarily concerned with upending the myth of the great American frontier that its director and star built his career off of, it is a dark, bleak and dreadful film that took home Oscar gold for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor (Hackman) -- just the third time in the Awards' history that a Western had taken the top prize. Plus: we're both deep in our respective music bags this week, hyperfixating on tunes from Willow Avalon and Bruce Cockburn. If you'd like to watch the film before listening along to our conversation, Unforgiven is currently streaming in Canada on and in the United States on Max at the time of publication. You can also find the show now on both BlueSky and Instagram, @adhddvdpod. Other works discussed on this week's episode include The X-Files, The Idea of You, Tenet, Canadian Bacon, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, Superbad, Oppenheimer, Mission: Impossible 2, GoldenEye, Mission: Impossible 3, Alias, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, The Incredibles, Tomorrowland, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, Rye Lane, Baby Driver, Jaws, The Fabelmans, No Country For Old Men, Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, Juror #2, Heat, Tombstone and High Plains Drifter. We'll be back next week to wrap up the month by roping a few of our January features' top stars as George Clooney and Bernie Mac unite next week for 2001's Ocean's Eleven, directed by Steven Soderbergh -- one of the most rewatchable films ever made, as we can't wait to revisit it yet again as it gets welcomed into the ADHD-DVD podcast canon. Ocean's 11 is now streaming on Starz at the time this episode was released. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

Despite a prolific and acclaimed creative career, including a musician his entire life with a deep passion for jazz and awards for composition and scoring along with directing. Despite a list of international guilds, publications, and awards that goes on and on. (Whatever he hasn't won, he's received an honorary award for). About half of the films he has directed have been nominated for major industry awards in categories such as picture, direction, acting, sound, or scoring. Despite all of this; Clint Eastwood will probably forever be remembered most as either the 'Man With No Name', 'the Good', or 'Dirty' Harry Callahan. Those roles were iconic, but today we're talking about the last 5 decades, and (most of) the 40 movies of this prolific career, the big and the underappreciated. Today, Matt and Todd are joined by our neighbor from the north, Logan, to embark on a retrospective of Clint Eastwood's directorial efforts. The legend as a director. Director Clint Eastwood's films have garnered enormous praise across the globe. We have a bit of a morbid rolling start. Julian saved a woman's life which led to other near deleted experiences. We hard transition into Jaguar Wright's appearance on Piers Morgan (10:15). We speculate over her claims about Jay-Z and his alleged involvement with the Diddy camp and beyond. Does Jaguar have credibility? And should she be allowed on these platforms? Into actual music, “Million Dollar Baby” man, Tommy Rich, claims he “isn't hiphop” (21:14). We discuss him possibly being the next Post Malone. But at what cost? Beyonce has submitted ‘Cowboy Carter' for the Grammy Country category. We go over her credibility and bring up Luke Combs recent comments about Beyonce (28:46). It's officially spooky season and the hottest costume this year is the BBL Drizzy from Fashionova (43:55). Welcome to #Millennial, the home of pretend adulting and real talk! Who will Kamala pick as her VP? We want Mayor Pete, but we're not sure if he'll make the cut (this time). VP candidate and couch aficionado J.D. Vance lashed out at childless cat ladies - he has no idea what he's done! As childless (dog) ladies ourselves, we feel seen by this report from Pew that shows 57% of people under 50 who aren't having kids cite "just not wanting to" as their primary reason. Do you need to have biological children to give a damn about the future of your country and the world? How is Andrew supposed to touch all that grass if he didn't care about conservation? Falling birth rates globally is breeding a pronatalism movement, wherein some are looking to incentivize having children. We're happy to be the cool aunties/uncle and continue growing our fur baby collections. But we can still love and care about the future of the children in our lives! Is Spotify forcing users to listen to Sabrina Carpenter's “Espresso”? Some users (including on our panel) feel like they simply cannot escape Espresso.  Many people with this concern believe that Carpenter's label is paying Spotify to "force feed" Espresso to listeners around the world. But why? The song is already regarded as a bop, and has been doing well since it dropped this spring. Sabrina Carpenter isn't alone though, a similar trend has emerged with Chappell Roan's "Good Luck, Babe!" and Tommy Richman's "Million Dollar Baby." Does this simply boil down to Spotify's algorithm not being as good as it once was? This week's recommendations will entertain and make your heart full: The Chameleon (Andrew), Inkless Ink Pads for taking impressions of your fur baby's paw prints (Laura), and "My Lady Jane" on Amazon Prime (Pam). And in this week's installment of After Dark: It's a roll call special! We're not leading with any agenda besides the things we want to bitch about today. What is the point of having a smart doorbell if people will continue knocking instead of using it and taking the message that if we're not answering, we don't want to?
