Just a bunch of guys who talk about a different film each week, switching category every month. Spooky, animated, musicals, and feeling lonely are just some of the realms we’ve entered. We also take this 50% seriously. Letterboxd: Eric Peterson: https:/
Ladies and GENTLEMEN who like it hot, we have quite the pick from a disgruntled Snob, Jared. He was NOT happy with the previous picks and even went as far as to say that they made him feel PETTY not PRETTY. But today we have Jared's pick from 1959 and from director Billy Wilder, “Some Like it Hot.” This film stars Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe! We have a good time talking about just why this pick is so good and how it makes us feel pretty inside and outside. Here. We. GO!!! Snobbies, we have the third film in the I FEEL PRETTY theme. This pick comes from Eric and from Director Tarsem Singh comes, “The Fall.” This film split the snobs up the middle. Eric enjoyed it, Caleb and Cody liked it sort of, and Jared did not like it. He was feeling petty and wanted better picks for this topic. We REALLY get into it and talk through this EPIC story. The shots in this film are absolutely insane and we hope you ENJOY!Film Discussed: The Fall (2006)Letterboxd: Eric Peterson:letterboxd.com/EricLPeterson/ Jared Klopfenstein:letterboxd.com/kidchimp/ Ethan Jasso:letterboxd.com/e_unit7/ Caleb Zehr:letterboxd.com/cjzehr/ Ricky Wickham:letterboxd.com/octopuswizard/ Cody Martin: letterboxd.com/codytmartin/Here is a COMPLETE LIST of every film that we have done an episode for. Welcome back Snobbies. Today we have a great little flick for I FEEL PRETTY. Caleb chose a film that he thought looked pretty and created a very beautiful scene to look at. From director Justin Kurzel, “Macbeth.” This film is a tough watch if you have ever tried to watch Shakespeare adaptations before. This one was unique and we talked through how this film made us feel and Jared shares his thoughts on just how much he hates the Shakespearean language. WOWOWOWIIIIIEEEE. This pick from Cody was a bit of a curveball! We begin our next topic of “I FEEL PRETTY” where Cody picked a film from 1980 about the 1990's. A rock Opera and glamorous take on the future…this film almost left us with nothing to talk about. From director Menahem Golan comes, “The Apple.” Can I talk about the plot in this synopsis? No. Truly I don't know what to say other than this is a film about two folk signers who are tempted by fame and the evils there within. SNOBBIES! It's the end of the Spooky season! It hardly seems that the time is here. It feels like it had just begun. But this week we have Jared's pick for Spooktober V and he chose a film that has been on our spooky lists for years. A film cloaked in darkness and creepy imagery. A film directed by the great Werner Herzog, “Nosferatu the Vampyre.” Joining us on this trip is JOHNNY P! We are so happy to have him on the pod. Having seen this film in the Prospect basement with Jared a few years ago, the rewatch of this film was a very spooky time. Hey everyone, this week we have Caleb's pick for SPOOKTOBER! This pick comes to us from director Alejandro Amenábar and is “The Others.” This film is very hard to talk about without spoiling the film, but it takes place in 1945 at the end of the war where we find Nicole Kidman giving some new caretakers the tour of the house before giving them the job. The film gets very interesting when her daughter and son start to see “Others” in the home and Nicole suspects that ghosts are inhabiting the home. This film stars legends in Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, directed by Donald Petrie, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” This film was funny, witty, smart, and iconic. The film was not without faults but we very much enjoyed the conversations around rom coms and their demise among other things. We hope you enjoy this episode! Hey there Snobbies. Today we have Caleb's pick for ROMCOM. Jared came in HARD that this is NOT a RomCom. This was heavily debated on this episode as we discussed why the Paul Thomas Anderson Directed film “Punch Drunk Love,” belongs in this category. If a film's heart is romance and comedy, isn't it a RomCom? Is it a NeuroDivergentRomCom? Is it just pure chaos energy? What we DO know, is that this is a heck of a film and we were here for it! Eric especially loved any time Philip Seymour Hoffman graces the screen. This episode was a lot of fun, we hope you enjoyed it too. WE decided to watch a INSANE film from the creative and genius mind of Mike Cheslik and Ryland Brickson Cole Tews…comes a film unlike anything you have ever seen, and we can confidently say this, “Hundreds of Beavers.” This film is taking a silent film approach with ADR and hyper-toonlike-violence and we are HERE FOR IT! We talk about Beavers, Rabbits, raccoons, trappers, Santa Claus, surviving the winter, genocide, and much much more. With ZERO expectations, we seriously enjoyed watching this film and can't wait for you to watch it too. You'll have to rent it, but PLEASE PLEASE rent this film and join us on this journey. Enjoy! Sup Snobbies. We have a FILM SNOBS FIRST!! Today marks the first time we've had a repeat guest TWICE in a row. Lydia is back with her take on Cody's pick this week. We gave Cody the assignment to pick the topic and the film. He picked ROM COMS, and picked the unlikely choice of “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines,” directed by Ken Annakin. Snobbies! We're back with Cody's pick for REMAKES and this one is a stone cold classic. Kurt Russell has never been hotter?? Questions mark?? This remake is from a 1951 original called, “The Thing From Another World,” adapted from the 1938 novel, Who Goes There? WE WATCHED Director John Carpenter's, “The Thing.” THIS. FILM. RULES!!! We had an absolute blast watching this film. Every once and a while, the Snobs watch a film that just makes us react. The Thing was more psychological than we thought and we loved talking through what makes us human? Who can we trust? What even was this film trying to say? One thing was for sure, this film had EPIC visual effects. Ooey, Gooey, gutsy, visual effects. This week we have JOHNATHAN, who appeared on the “Good Morning” episode and had a lot of great insights. Back on the scene and only 17 years old! We enjoyed talking about his pick by Director Akira Kurosawa, “Dreams.” This was a collection of recurring dreams that the director had and he put to film. Good morning SNOBBIES! And welcome back to our episode on Terence Davies month. This week we have Jared's pick and he decided to go with “The Long Day Closes.” This film has a similar feel and vibe to Distant Voices, Still Lives. In this film we follow the perspective of Bud, a boy in Liverpool in the 1950's, coming of age around the other family members and the austere Catholic Church as he enters the rigors of school, nurtures a bedazzled love of the movies and longs for companionship. Jared says this is a near perfect film and Terence Davies best film he's ever made. We dive into childhoods, favorite shots, the Davies Dissolve, and much much more. Enjoy! Snobbies. Welcome to a new segment. Today we are featuring an old ep from the archives. This episode is one that we have talked about more than once on the podcast. The topic when this originally aired was "Going on a Journey." This was Ricky's week to pick a film and he decided to go with MXP Most Xtreme Primate as the film that best represented "Going on a Journey." You can tell on the pod, but I was a little less than enthusiastic about this pick. Probably one of the only times I've actively tried to derail a podcast due to how horrible the film was. Ahhh, fun times. Anyway, enjoy this throwback week as we recuperate after the holidays and we WILL be back with Jared's Terence Davies pick next time! See you then! Hey there Snobbies! This week we continue on our journey with the late Terence Davies and his filmography. This week was Cody's pick and he chose to go with the director's last film that he ever made…Benediction. A film that truly has some of the most incredible acting we have ever seen. The film features a war time military man who is put into a mental hospital to quiet his dissenting voice. The film follows the man's life and love's. With incredible direction, brutal shots, and beautiful scenery, the film takes you along a path that follows closely with Davies's own life. We LOVED Benediction and loved talking through it tonight. Welcome back Snobbies. We are EXCITED to have you back and enjoying another spooky film with us. This week, we have the incomparable, Josh George with us! He joins for the first time ever and we have an interesting one for you. Jared's pick this week and he chose a legend of a film from 1932, director Tod Browning brings us, “Freaks.” This film deals in the controversial as it features differently abled people and takes place in a circus. The film follows certain characters as they go through circus life. Hans, one of the main characters and who has dwarfism, is infatuated with a female acrobat named Cleopatra and this infatuation gets everyone into a heap of trouble. Here. We. GOOOOO!! Welcome back to SPOOKTOBER 4, pick #3 by Cody Martin himself. We are excited to talk about this film. This animated EPIC is packed with delicious animation, beautiful shots, and a tragic story. This film is directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri and is called, “Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.” This film, in the words of Cody is the perfect middle ground as it doesn't feel like a halloween movie made by Disney or an over the top horror flick. WE really had a good time with this film and found it to be the perfect Sppoktober addition to the collection. Enjoy! SNOBBIES! Bringing to you SPOOKTOBER #2!! This week we have Eric's pick and he decided to go the wacky route. If you remember our very first episode SPOOKTOBER #1, where we featured “House,” this film made us feel right at home. GUEST Alec Brunk joined us today as Eric's first guest on the pod! This film's director Ricky Lau brings us “Mr. Vampire.” This film from 1985 brought possibly the most laughs we've had on this episode. A mixture of killing vampires, sexy ghosts, KungFu vamp slaying, comedic assistants, misty hill gorillas, hopping undead, I mean…it goes on and on. This film rules and we had such a fun time talking through it. Enjoy! Caleb, Cody, and Eric take on Caleb's pick for tonight (Jared is in Europe…having a terrible time) a film that is melancholic in nature and definitely sets up some sad snobs action. A film directed by LENGENDARY director Lars von Trier, “Melancholia.” This film was seen by all and the rewatch was improved in the eyes of some and sustained in the eyes of others. We talked about artistic shots, mental health, world death, how absolutely strange this film was followed by a discussion on how smart this film was…everything was covered and nothing was covered. Hey Snobbies! Welcome to the Second ever Snobbie's Choice week. Last time, Tom picked The Truman Show. This week we have Nick Maddie who is here to give us the ethical discussion film of a lifetime, from director Ben Affleck's debut…”Gone Baby Gone.” This film GETS. US. HEATED! WE really enjoyed talking about Right and Wrong, bad girlfriends, Bad mom's, love for a child, and we talk about what each of us would do in their place. This film has some sensitive material as the film is about a child being taken from her home and can trigger some people. This was a great episode and we enjoyed talking through it. Enjoy! Welcome Snobbies! to the last episode in the ChatGPT series where Artificial Intelligence picks our movies for us. The topic has been a lot of fun and we have seen some really cool films. Tonight we have Jared picking the film from the list ChatGPT gave him. The film that was chosen was from legendary director Éric Rohmer, “A Summer's Tale.” This film deal with ultra-realism, where the other film we did for this topic, 8 1/2, did surrealism. The film follows a man on his way through the French coast side and his many interactions with women where choices are made for him. We had different opinions about this film, but we all agreed that it was the best of the bunch. BARBENHEIMER!!!!! It's here. Very late to the overall cultural party, but we recorded this a while ago. The snobs minus Caleb are here to talk about Barbie and Oppenheimer. You know the drill. Hopefully you've seen one or both of these films. If not, what have you been doing with your life?? We enjoyed talking through both films and probably spent too much time on Oppenheimer…kinda like Nolan did! Oooooooohhhhhh. SNAP!
