Drake, J. Cole and Kendrick never rap together anymore. Why is that? The most recent collab of these three was Kendrick and J. Cole on Under the Sun in 2019, but Kendrick has, like two bars. The next most recent is December 14 2017. So about 4.5 years ago on Jeezy's American Dream off his 2017 project pressure. Now Drake and J. Cole go all the way back to 2013 on Jodeci Freestyle. But Drake and Kendrick, we've waited nearly 10 years. We have to dip all the way back to 2012 with fuckin problems to hear them on a song together. So what is the issue here? I doubt very much any of these three are scared to rap next to each other because they're really divergent artists. Maybe you could argue J. Cole is worried about getting washed up by Kendrick. We've heard Kendrick steal the show on tracks like Holy Key, where he pieced up Big Sean for a second time after control. But J. Cole's feature run recently has been immense. If he raps like he did on Johnny P's Caddy, Kendrick might be the one to be worried he'll get eaten up. And Drake is Drake, you know. He has a very curated release schedule. Everything seems calculated. If he isn't on a song with Kendrick or Cole, Best believe it makes sense in whatever equation he's running on. But ultimately we're the ones who lose out. You know, we didn't get Nas and Jay Z until 2000 and six, and that hurt. We didn't get Biggie and Pac. So many artists avoided each other in the 90s and 2000s. This one really stings though, because, you know, they might save humanity if this trio put out a song together, or maybe it will be garbage, what do you think?Check out the replies and reactions on Beams.fm
2022 is almost halfway over! To mark the occasion, Matt and Jason picked their favorite records released this year for this special discussion. Jason picked Soul Glo's “Diaspora Problems” (March 25) because it's high-energy, it bends genres, and crams a lot of righteous fury into its lyrics. Matt's loved the work of Benny the Butcher for a long time, so his latest release, “Tana Talk 4” (March 10), is a shoo-in for Matt's favorite records of the year. In this episode, we talk a lot about hardcore music made by people of color, what makes rap like Benny's timeless, and how it feels to find music that just hits all your buttons. We'd also love it if you'd rate and review the show on iTunes, ‘cause it means more people can find the show and love it, too! Greetings heathens! Join us for today's show with Johnny Angel and Phil Ferguson who tackle questions from callers on how to handle today's challenges when speaking with friends. First caller is Jessica in Ut who asks if atheism can be harmful to mental health. Some people find the truth hard to handle. You are not alone when you feel that all the certainties are gone that used to be there when you had the support system of your church. Recovering from Religion can help with this. Count the good things in life and not just the negative hits. Is the cause of your distress the newly found lack of belief in magical thinking, or is it something else? Next is Dave from NC wants to talk about the driver behind the holocaust being racism. He has an issue with society having racial categories to emphasize the illusion that races are separate. It comes down to definitions and we often talk past each other as humans. It is not our place to say who is and isn't a race or who is in a struggle or not. It is more important to learn from the people who were involved than for us to speculate. Do you recognize that certain people statistically get the short end of the stick in society?Next is B from VA who is talking to a religious friend that does not accept the different between sex and gender. It seems like he says these things to encourage people to hate him. The friend says the LGBTQ community is ruining the world. He also thinks science is wrong about sex and gender. Many people have received their marching orders from a book and some people believe this because it is what they learned growing up. This friend needs to meet more people in the LGBTQ community so his shitty attitude will become less. Our hope is that bigots are dwindling and fading away. Do you feel compelled to be the person that changes your friend's mind on the subject?Dan from OH is next that would like to know how to best converse with his friend who is autistic on theist topics. His friend at work is a Christian Fundamentalist and does not understand why the only atheist he knows does not hate Islam. We are not experts on autism, but talking with people can be different for each person. You can use clever ways to look at the Bible as a club when talking about Christianity and argue literally anything. Maybe there is something on the fringe that you can find that will help with the smallest improvement that can be enough to nudge the asteroid off course. Marcus in TX would like to know how to play off the religious person's superiority to encourage them into being better human beings. The morality that most people follow is not the same that is laid out in their holy book. People just assume that believers are a positive force in the world because they are part of a charity. You are not moral because of the Bible but in spite of the Bible. Ask questions. Do atheists tip better? What percentage of your tithing actually goes to helping people? Thank you all for joining us! We want to hear your experience so please keep calling.
There aren't many things in our daily lives that are perfectly legal until money changes hands and yet selling sex just seems so salacious. Then when you consider we've built a world where economic freedom and bodily autonomy are doubly denied to women it's no wonder we deem the commerce of coitus beneath us. But how should we manage cash for connection- is it vital for the government to enforce our safety or an affront to our freedom? SecX's Patron Saint of Sex Work joins our resident legal expert for a closer examination. Cole on Benny The Butcher's "Johnny P's Caddy" and YG's "Scared Money," Nicki Minaj's "Do We Have A Problem?" single and how she's undoubtedly the GOAT female rap artist, Benny The Butcher continuing Griselda's incredible run, 2 Chainz's "Dope Don't Sell Itself" album and so much more!
Griselda Records' Benny the Butcher has returned with a scorching new song entitled "Johnny P's Caddy", featuring J. Cole and produced by The Alchemist. With such an all-star line-up, this track still lives up to the anticipation with passionate vocal performances and sublimely crafted production. Serving as the lead single for his upcoming album Tana Talk 4, "Johnny P's Caddy" finds the Benny and Cole trading equally powerful verses, demonstrating the importance of healthy competition in hip-hop. The instrumental for "Johnny P's Caddy" creates a motivational mood with rich vocal samples underscored by uplifting strings. Beneath, The Alchemist brings in his characteristically gritty, sturdy percussion and pairs it with infectious bass, crafting a strong foundation for the two rappers' fiery vocals. Both Benny and Cole deliver intense verses that are packed with dense wordplay, yet come across as effortless and smooth. Their performances reflect that they are two rappers currently at the top of their game, and it is engrossing to hear them attack this beat with such ferocity and clarity. "Johnny P's Caddy" will appear on Tana Talk 4, which is likely to be one of the most talked about records in hip-hop this year. If this song is any indication, we have much to look forward to in the full album, which continues Benny the Butcher's storied Tana Talk album series.
