Hello all our Goblins, Ghouls, and lovely minions of the dark. We hope you will enjoy our cap off of the most wonderful time of the year. Sam and I gave it a lot of thought, and perhaps in keeping with what seems to be a trend for us in 2024, we opted for a film from South Korea. “The Wailing” is definitely “the full horror film experience” Written and directed by Na Hong-jin, this tale delivers a unique and authentic supernatural experience. Leave any pre-conceived ideas you may have about ghosts, possession, and demons in the lobby, before pressing the play button, and we assure you that you will have a satisfying Halloween watch.
SPOOOOOOOOOOOKTOBER is still here! Today is Eric's pick and he chose to pick a film that is a callback from Episode 1 of The Film Snobs, and we only talked about it for 15 minutes. A film that deserves hours of conversation, directed by Na Hong-jin, “The Wailing.” This film is NOT for the faint of heart. A film that delves into the supernatural and the demonic. WE really crack this film open. Guest STEVEN joins us on the pod and we manage to have more than a few spooooooky technical problems…but we prevailed. We hope you enjoy this film if you watched it…but we'd understand if you decided not to. Après "Would you have sex with an arab" en 2011, puis "M" en 2018, Yolande Zauberman sʹimmerge dans lʹunivers de plusieurs femmes trans palestiniennes vivant à Tel-Aviv. Conseils: "R.A.S." (1972) dʹYves Boisset. (R. Wolf). (en DVD et BluRay). "The Chaser" de Na Hong-ji (S. Gobbo).
This week The Searchers are back covering a classic Korean film. No, not from that Hollywood-glamorized (and overrated) director, Bong Joon-ho! Nothing from directors Park Chan-wook nor Na Hong-jin. Chris, Ben, and Kevin are joined by guest and mailbag-frequenter Odie Arbuckle to explore the dare-we-say classic Korean action film The Terrorist from 1995. Why does no one talk about 1990s Korean cinema? Listen and find out! Watch the film, HERE, on YouTube (1080p), if you'd like to be in the know. Check out Odie Arbuckle on Letterboxd, HERE. Shownotes:https://www.dropbox.com/s/bx7b47df2hevfte/%2319%20Folklore%20Shownotes.docx?dl=0
This week's I Know That Face episode is a packed one, beginning with Andrew and Stephen looking at the career of a workhorse of an actor. Jun Kunimura hasn't taken a year off since 1991 and the effort shows in his work with Ridley Scott, Quentin Tarantino, John Woo, Takashi Miike, Takeshi Kitano and Na Hong-jin. Best known in the west as the beheaded Boss Tanaka in Kill Bill Vol. 1, the Japanese actor made his bones in lean and mean horrors and crime thrillers like Audition, Ichi the Killer, Outrage and Manhunt. Meanwhile, his most famous and well-rounded recent role as the mysterious Japanese stranger in the South Korean horror epic The Wailing won him the Best Supporting Actor and Popular Star awards at the Blue Dragon Awards, making him the first non-Korean to do so. Also in the episode, Stephen interviews director Sebastián Lelio about his new Irish-set mystery drama The Wonder starring Florence Pugh. It's out in Irish cinemas now before it will receive a Netflix release on 16 November. Death in a Village: Na Hong-jin's The Wailing One of the great joys of doing this show is discovering the gems in the cinematic world. Sometimes you stumble on them in your search; occasionally a friend turns you onto something great. Mr. Burroughs sent this to me a few years back and only now have I had the chance to sit down and watch it . . . It was well worth the wait. A story of Korean Horror featuring Ghosts, Posession, Murder, and Paranoia, The Wailing is simply one of The Best Horror Films in recent decades. It's a thrill for us to discuss this gem of World Cinema. We hope you enjoy the film and our talk. Questions, Comments, Complaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. Many Thanks.
Med Myrornas Krigs egna SBAR-koncept (S-skräck, B-berättande, A-audiovisuellt, R-rekommendation) dissikerar vi The Chaser, The Wailing och The Medium.
This week the girls are joined by very special guest, Dread Central and Nightmare on Fierce Street's Sharai Bohannon, who brought the incredible Korean horror film The Wailing on to talk about. From Wikipedia: "The Wailing (Korean: 곡성; Hanja: 哭聲; RR: Gokseong) is a 2016 South Korean horror film written and directed by Na Hong-jin and starring Kwak Do-won, Hwang Jung-min, Chun Woo-hee. The film centers on a policeman who investigates a series of mysterious killings and illnesses in a remote Korean village called Gokseong in order to save his daughter. The film was both a commercial and critical success.[3][4][5]"But first! Sharai has been getting into Joseph Quinn and Britbox. Drusilla watched Ghost World and Airheads and has been loving A League of Their Own the series on Prime Video. Meanwhile, Josh re-watched Mario Bava's Blood and Black Lace. In this episode, we are joined by BOOMER fromPodcast in the Woodshttps://linktr.ee/woodspodcastThis is the episode Ross was in btw: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6G5TocltVLFUgVdPdPUC2V?si=fQ7JuHMLTP2mbSqlrpH20QThe Wailing is a 2016 South Korean horror film written and directed by Na Hong-jin and starring Kwak Do-won, Hwang Jung-min, Chun Woo-hee. And was cited in the documentary “Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched” as an excellent example of international, specifically Asian, Folk horror. The film centers on a policeman who investigates a series of mysterious killings and illnesses in a remote Korean village called Gokseong in order to save his daughter. According to director Na Hong-jin, this movie was made on the basis of folk religions in Korea and Nepal and on Catholic faiths. Na teamed up with Thai director Banjong Pisanthanakun, acting as the producer and screenwriter for ‘The Medium', a supernatural horror film mockumentary. When writing the story, Na explained in an interview that The Medium was initially a sequel to The Wailing with Hwang Jung-min's shaman character. However, this rendition did not come to light, as quoted by Na himself, “The Medium has no relation to The Wailing.” Therefore, not a very interesting titbit, but these newer films have hardly any info on Wikipedia or IMDB, so cut us some slack. Na has said, “Whenever I finish a film, I don't want to go anywhere near another one.” Which may explain the slow release of his movies, despite being in the film industry for over 15 years, he only has 3 films to his name. (which is probably more than whoever dished this shade on IMDB has ever done)This review contains spoilers - please watch this before we ruin it for you Get bonus content on PatreonSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/general-witchfinders.
“He's just fishing. Not even he knows what he'll catch. He just threw out the bait, and your daughter took it.” In a sleepy Korean village, evil lurks behind every corner. Evil lives in the hills. Evil lives inside of the ones you love most. This week the fellas take on Na Hong-jins masterpiece, The Wailing. Arguably the most complete horror flick of the last decade, Hong-jins blend of horror, comedy, and drama leaves us speechless with as close to a perfect film as you can get. The boys breakdown why this movie was so successful, highlight the directorial story telling, speak on cast performances, and try to explain what truly happened in this battle of good vs. evil. Thank you for checking back in, and enjoy your stay at The Grand Cinema Hotel! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

We watched The Wailing on Shudder.com and found out just how badly a well meaning dad can fuck up his entire family. A lesson I learned long ago. @dgoebel00 on Instagram provided this amazing artwork. Follow him and check out his website. https://youtu.be/43uAputjI4k Synopsis Jong-goo (Kwak Do-won) is a local policeman and caring father to Hyo-jin (Hwan-hee Kim), the precocious young daughter. A stranger enters their village and immediately things start to go awry. Families are found horrifically murdered, and people in the village seem to be changing. A Japanese man who lives in the forest is fingered as the culprit, but what is really going on? As Hyo-jin gets sick, father Jong-goo takes it on himself to solve the mystery surrounding what exactly is happening to their village. Review The Wailing was directed and written by Na Hong-jin and many have called it one of the most impressive horror movies of the last 20 years. I would call The Wailing the Indiana Jones of horror movies. It's constantly throwing new stuff your way. It's hard to know what's around the next bend, but you can bet that it will be exciting, terrifying, or totally shocking. More than that, it's an engaging labyrinth of a story that answers questions only to reveal more questions. Watch The WailingRent or Buy on AmazonClick here to Watch Those who want an ending that's easy to understand may want to steer clear of The Wailing, but to be honest it's pretty fun to guess at what it all means. Personally, this movie has been hyped for so long by so many that I came away a bit underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine movie that's pretty interesting and it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. I just expected something so much more scary than this due to everyone's reaction to it and there's just no way it could deliver. There's also something of a cultural rift that I feel in The Wailing more so than in other foreign films. I felt like there was tons of subtext and meaning that I was missing due to my inherent Western upbringings. Score 8/10 Get 13% Off your order at NightChannels.com when you use code HMT at checkout.

What goes bump in the night giving Kyle a fright? For the Season 4 premiere it's The Wailing (2016) directed by Na Hong-jin. This South Korean supernatural horror film has a small town cop and doting father investigating a strange series of murders that all center around an ominous Japanese man. Is the woman in white trustworthy? How come Shamans have so much fun? Was the hellhound a good boy? Sacrifice that chicken as the Boo Boys break it all down. (Also, Kyle strongly recommends watching this film for yourself).

Today we discuss the 2016 South Korean Horror (Masterpiece) film by Na Hong-jin, The Wailing. It’s a densely packed and ambiguous film, so buckle up.

In this episode of Chick Flicks, McKenzie and Bridget discuss outsiders and investigations in the films The Wailing and The Wicker Man. The Wailing, a 2016 film directed by Na Hong-jin, follows a small town cop's investigation into a spate of mysterious violent murders. The Wicker Man, a 1973 film directed by Robin Hardy (not the Nic Cage one), is considered one of the first 'folk horror' movies and also follows a cop looking into a mysterious crime. Chick Flicks is a film review podcast hosted by McKenzie Chapman and Bridget Hovell.
