(Note: the episode art is an itsy-bitsy preview of the full design that will be revealed on April 26th) One of our favorite Alien Day traditions is our annual t-shirt unveiling. Over the past near-decade, we've gotten to work with tons of gifted artists from around Alien fandom – and this year is VERY MUCH no exception. DeadDark – whose actual name is Ross, and who can be found on IG here (for his digital art @deaddark23) and here (for his tattooing @_deaddark) – is a crazy talented artist/Alien Saga superfan. On today's episode, Perry and Patrick chat with Ross about all things xenomorph, and share a little preview of the art that will be fully unveiled on Alien Day (just four days from now!). Make sure you don't miss a thing on April 26th by following us on socials if you aren't already! The shirt will be unveiled in the afternoon, and it will be available at a promotional discount for a limited time. fter nearly ten years with everyone’s favorite console/handheld hybrid, Nintendo is FINALLY gracing the world with a grand-scale presentation of the Switch successor, the Nintendo Switch 2. So, what better way to hype ourselves up for the big N’s upcoming hardware than to fantasize a bunch of our pie-in-the-sky. “what-if” wishes that we want to see out of the new console, along with some educated guesses and predictions to throw around amongst ourselves. Joining Ed, George, and Sean this time around is Hayes Madsen, a games journalist currently penning words at inverse.com, who worked at over a dozen other outlets, and has graciously accepted the invite to discuss a slew of topics for this week’s episode! On the cast, the crew will weigh in on their shared impressions of this year’s GDC, the state of indie games, Game Informer’s return, and everything Nintendo leading up to the Switch 2 Direct! Also, a bit of warning; we unfortunately ran into some recording hiccups that slightly affected the audio quality of this episode, but rest assured PPR-gonauts, the latest show is VERY MUCH still listenable, so please, enjoy all while we collectively salivate at the promise of consistent frame-rates and 4K resolution from Nintendo of all things!Mail us at our new email Mailbag@presspauseradio.com, leave a voicemail at 469-PPR-TALK, and be sure to stop by at our Forums if you haven’t already registered and post your thoughts about the show. Hi Beloved. There is NO DOUBT we are on the cusp of an economic tail wind, shifting into the ecosystem of “Sound Money” through transparency. TRUE CONFESSION: I purchased Bitcoin in 2011, and 5 years later, sold due to it's scandal in the dark web and child trafficking (proven). XRP? Yes please. You're about to learn why. KASS. Digital assets? That's not your vibe. Glad you asked. It actually VERY MUCH is my vibe as an avid economic student. I will be dropping in here and there with foundational education for us to come around the table, learn from and ultimately support you in understanding your options as we move from one decline to the greatest incline in history. This may not make any sense to you - but I suggest listening and letting your subconscious mind to take it in, so when this does hit peak, you have some insights that will remove fear and embody greater understanding. This video features my Friend Rob Dunningham and Kyle. READY? Let's break down the tech stacks behind the emerging digital asset ecosystem. There's a lot of nuance and legal precedent that's important to understand. On one side, we have Bitcoin - the mysterious crypto that's been hyped relentlessly by the media for 16 years. But what does it really do? Payments? Smart contracts? Scalability? Efficiency? Then there's Ethereum - the smart contract platform invested in by CCP-linked entities, JP Morgan, etc. Its founder Vitalik Buterin even crashed on the couch of Ripple's early CTO.And let's talk about Tether - the offshore, unaudited stablecoin whose magical printing seems to prop up Bitcoin's price. Suspicious much?On the other hand, you have Ripple and XRP. XRP has clear legal definition as a virtual currency, not a security. It has real-world use cases, efficiency, and transparency that the others lack.Ripple built on top of the open-source XRP Ledger, similar to how Red Hat built on Linux. This allows interoperability, smart contracts, tokenization, and more across the crypto ecosystem. The key is the XRP token - it acts as the "motor oil" enabling fast, low-cost value transfer between any two parties or ledgers. It's the glue that binds this entire system together. With the RLUSD stablecoin backed 1:1 by reserves and XRP required for all transactions, this seems to be the digital dollar framework envisioned by Trump to keep the USD dominant. The legal clarity, real-world use cases, and technology behind Ripple/XRP make it stand out in this space. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. What are your thoughts on the future of digital assets?Thank you to Rob and Captain Kyle. We appreciate your ruthless research, leadership and timeWhere we go one- we go all. Love, Kassandra. PS: Share with a friend. And….follow my X Threads for the most recent real world shifts. Having just come out of a disappointing twenty-year marriage, Harris was desperate to find the love and stimulating partnership she'd long dreamed of, and believed she'd finally found it in the intellectual Tarnower and the two would live happily ever after. Episode 36 - All About the Big Red Cheese This week we are taking a major diversion from our normal path, and taking a look at Marvel's Distinguished Competition. That's right, we mentioned a while ago that we would be starting to branch out a bit, and with the new Shazam! Movie appearing in theaters this weekend I wanted to get Duane up to speed on the original Captain Marvel, one of the oldest heroes in comics – a character that once was more popular than Superman himself! This Week In Comics Brian Michael Bendis Announces Fortune & Glory Sequel Marvel Teases the Debut of a New Spider-Man Hero Recommendation: DC stories for new comic readers Morrison's All-Star Superman George Perez's Wonder Woman Alex Ross's Justice This Week's Stack Shazam Vol. 1 (1973) Shazam! Power of Hope (2000) Shazam! The Monster Society Of Evil (2007) Creator Focus: Jeff Smith 2 Minute Recap and Discussion Topics Shazam Vol. 1 This is VERY MUCH a kids book, but also VERY meta aware, with numerous references to “I remember him from when I was a kid…he doesn't look a day older.” Kid superhero, no surprise, was well liked by kids “Mr. Binder” is a reference to Otto Binder. Wrote many classic Captain Marvel stories, and also co-created Supergirl. Very much feels like the first Shazam film Quick history of Captain Marvel and why Shazam is used Shazam! Power of Hope Alex Ross is like no other comic artist. He is our Norman Rockwell. Many of his characters are based on real people, who serve as models for his illustrations. The model for Shazam has been the same person for decades. This is a simple, powerful story. Tells a wonderful story with some action and makes you think after finishing it. Shazam! The Monster Society Of Evil A very fun story, and a love letter to the whole history of CM/Shazam Has a very “old fashioned” feel Not something to think too deeply on Adults aren't cast in a friendly light throughout this. Call back to older Villains – Dr. Sivana. Has a “friend” (Tawny) who can change forms? The “Big Red Cheese”? What on Earth is that? Final Thoughts What's Next Shazam: Fury of the Gods comes to theaters this weekend! Signoff Questions or comments We'd love to hear from you! Annie says her boyfriend says "I love you Really Much" instead of "I love you Very Much" and it's driving her crazy. There's a good reason he says it this way though, so we're going to try to talk her into cutting him some slack.

Click on the link below for the full post. https://www.trustthelink.com/what-is-the-difference-between-blogging-and-guest-posting/ Blogging is when you post written content on your own website and guest posting is when you post content on someone else's website. You might be wondering should I do both, should I just focus on my website what about backlinks? I like the idea of re-purposing your written content on other websites. It is VERY MUCH worth it. You might be wondering how it can help you. One way it helps is it forces you to put links in your blog post to related articles. This is called interlinking and it does help your posts with getting seen in the search engines. Then when you post an article on another website some of those people will click a link and check out your website. This is the reason I would do it for MORE visitors to my website. Backlinking is "A whole other" story. Funny, I got started in internet marketing over 10 years ago with a program called "Backlink Battleplan" and I could rank anything by spamming backlinks. Then came the Google updates and all my rankings vanished. I don't focus on building backlinks anymore and I don't worry about them for SEO purposes and stuff. Instead, I believe it's WAY WAY better to focus on creating better (more helpful) content. If your content is more helpful than the competition you will win. If you try to manipulate Google (they are very smart) you will probably lose. I know I was big into black hat techniques and I lost. You do want as many people to visit your website as possible. The more people who visit my blog = more money. As long you know how to monetize traffic, which is a whole other topic. One more point is if you do guest posting, I would choose opportunities where you can also post on your website. Basically, you only have upside when guest posting and NO downside = no brainer decision! You might be wondering about the pros and cons of both. The largest pro to blogging on your website is you own the content. You have more control over it, it's more secure and you can always sell the website in the future for money. If you just do guest posting and you don't have a website then you're at the mercy of someone else. This is riskier and less secure. This is why doing both is the way to go. You own the content on your own website and you can get traffic from someone else's. You might be wondering if it's a good idea to allow other people to post on your website. I think this is a good idea as long as you can post it on their website. This way you both get traffic and both win. You can also do this with email by promoting each other's email lists, Youtube channels, and more if you want! The main thing is you want helpful content on your site and that is the "north star" I would ensure. I hope this was helpful. If you want to learn more about my content battle plan I talk more about this in a post you can check out by clicking on the link in the descriptioin or go to trustthelink.com. I also share where to do guest blogging. Enough about me. Also, what is your favorite platform to post to? What platform has gotten you the Best results? I'm curious. Have a nice day.

Thirty years of Rosie Perez being thirsty and men just don't understand it. But we do. Well us and Siskel & Ebert. The natural progression of film criticism. What does that sound like? A Peruvian voice is no authority for black culture in America as seen in the films of 1992. So instead we rely on the two white guys on the show. White men from Kentucky. Who have no time to appreciate a man's California tan. But can VERY MUCH appreciate Rosie Perez and her needs. One thumb going up somewhere in our latest episode of SOBER CINEMA! Chris Ballard sticks to his word, spending lavishly on the trenches while saving on receivers and defensive backs. Bills meanwhile sign Stefon Diggs to $104M extension! (at 10:51) Indiana Basketball ranked 19th and 21st in way-too-early top 25s, but that could change at any time as players are subtracted and added. Indiana Pacers fell closer to the bottom of the NBA last night as they allowed the 76ers to hit 23 three-pointers - yeah, 23! Tiger Woods is +110 to make the cut, which feels VERY MUCH like a lock! Jon and Damian Abraham discuss Chris Hansen's new multiverse of podcasts. VERY MUCH not for sensitive listeners!
Synopsis “We are NOT amused,” is the dour statement attributed to the matronly Queen Victoria in her later years, although some historians dispute she ever really said it. But as a young woman, in her diary Queen Victoria did write, “I was VERY MUCH amused indeed!” after seeing the Italian opera singer Giulia Grisi on stage. The young Queen was a fan, and made a drawing of the singer in a role she created: that of Elvira in Vincenzo Bellini's opera “I Puritani,” or “The Puritans,” which debuted in Paris on today's date in 1835. When Bellini's brand-new opera came to London later that same year, with Grisi in the cast, the young Queen attended several performances, and the opera she called “Dear Puritani” became a life-long favorite, perhaps because it was the first she attended with her husband-to-be, the young Prince Albert. The opera is set in 17th century England during the Civil War between Royalist supporters of the deposed King Charles I and Puritan rebels led by Oliver Cromwell. Its plot involves a Romeo and Juliet-like love story between a delicate Puritan soprano and a dashing Royalist tenor. Unlike Shakespeare's tragedy, however, Bellini's opera provides a happy ending for its politics-crossed lovers. Music Played in Today's Program Vincenzo Bellini (1801 – 1835) — Sinfonia (Overture), fr I Puritani (Philharmonia Orchestra; Riccardo Muti, cond.) EMI 09149
As you know by now, Steely Dan's core identity is the songwriting and performative partnership of Fagen & Becker. And with the group's dissolution in the early 1980s, the partners would occasionally step out on their own and create art under their own name. With Becker abandoning the continent and seeking sobriety and a general life reset after Gaucho, it was left to Fagen to make the first solo record of the creative partnership. The Nightfly came out in 1982, and it sounds...VERY MUCH like a Steely Dan album. Even with Becker gone, much of the machinery that made Gaucho was still in action, from the involvement of the engineering and producer staffs to the roster of ace session musicians. Add in Fagen's vocals and the expected intelligence of the lyrics, and many critics viewed The Nightfly as the natural progression of the Steely Dan creative spirit --- to the point that many critics immediately assumed that Fagen had done all the heavy lifting for Steely Dan and that Becker's contributions must have been comparatively minimal. But scratch the surface of The Nightfly and you'll notice something that rarely shined through on prior Steely Dan albums --- emotions of hope, wonder, wistfulness, and playfulness. It might have sounded similar but the sentiment was very different in spots. It's lovely, it's meticulous, and it's one of the best albums of the early 1980s, but it's not the automatic carryover from Gaucho that many assumed at the time.

I know listening to podcasts can be a lot. But this is a good podcast. It is EDITED. We don't talk about ourselves - VERY MUCH. Apologies for skipping last week. Visiting friends and cat sitting duties made it impossible to record an episode. That Woman Next Door is available for pre-order here! Harper reveals the story behind the unfortunate naming choice of one of its characters. Harper's two attempts at writing Pink Bean 11 didn't work out so she's taking an extended break from writing. She's decided to organise another read along in her Facebook group, this time of Two Hearts Trilogy. Join the group to participate. And don't forget to answer the three questions to gain entry! Tv shows we loved recently: The Unusual Suspects (Miranda Otto is so much better than Nicole K.), The Chair (with Holland Taylor for the queer lady interest), and F*** You Very, Very Much (a hilarious Flemish show about messy Millennials.) And we rewatched the first two seasons of Sex Education which is excellent. Plus it has Gillian Anderson, so what's not to like. Caroline's book of the week is This Must Be the Place by Maggie O'Farrell, which she loved. after a week long hiatus and an election, we didn't block this is back and ranking about men (again) but, this time they're fictional! ranging from VERY MUCH yes to electric Chair, the ladies decide which male broadway leads would make the best boyfriend. see where fictional men like orpheus, danny zuko and seaweed land on this tier list! plus, laura spills some CNN reporter tea, susannah inadvertently sends the ladies on a search for their perfect build-a-bear, and a fancast suggestion for a phantom of the opera remake actually makes kayla cry (NOT CLICKBAIT!!!) this episode of we didn't block this is dedicated to the man, the game show host, the legend: alex trebek.
This week, we discuss if age actually matters in a relationship. Unfortunately for Keith, it VERY MUCH did for our storyteller.
Scoring Directions - 1. The BPSC is divided into three subscales, each with 4 items. Determine the BPSC subscale scores by assigning a “0” for each “Not at All” response, a “1” for each “Somewhat” response, and a “2” for each “Very Much” response, and then sum the results. a. In the event that parents have selected multiple responses for a single question and are unavailable for further questioning, then choose the more concerning answer (i.e. "Somewhat" or "Very Much") farthest to the right. b. In the event that there is a missing response, that item counts as zero. 2. Any summed score of 3 or more on any of the three subscales indicates that a child is “at risk” and needs further evaluation or investigation.
Episode 39 of TALK JAM introduces Susan's brand-new audiobook, STEALING FIRE! It's her first audiobook, and she is SO EXCITED about it!Joining us in this episode is a lovely Hawaiian actress Mapuana Makia, who narrated the audiobook and discussed the process with Kelly and Susan. It's her very first podcast interview, AND STEALING FIRE was the VERY FIRST major audiobook she ever recorded, so this was a big deal!Susan talks about her writing process, why it took her 30 years to write and publish the book, and just how much of this very autobiographical story was about her actual life, and how much was not. (Hint: It's VERY MUCH about her!) Since the story is about a famous Broadway lyricist, we also talk a little about great Broadway lyricists, notably Susan's cousin, Fred Ebb, who wrote the lyrics for CABARET, CHICAGO, ALL THAT JAZZ, and a little ditty called "New York, New York"... Hope you'll all listen to this fascinating dissection of a writer's life and the secret love that lit it up; here are links to the audiobook on both Audible and Amazon:https://www.audible.com/pd/Stealing-Fire-Audiobook/B08JV3YD4Phttps://www.amazon.com/Stealing-Fire/dp/B08JTS6RNF

Intro Randy gives you Ten reason on why he has fully-switched to the Edge browser and away from Google Chrome. 10 Reasons I've Switched to Edge, Full Time • 1.) Google is an advertising company. Repeat that in your mind. • 2.) It's harmful to web standards, in my opinion, as most developers are developing their sites for chrome, who also want to be indexed on Google's website. • 3.) Updates itself in the background, without most people even knowing that. ○ At least Firefox installs an "updater" utility under control panel to actually give you a hint. Chrome just magically does it. You can think of this as a good thing or bad thing, obviously, but at least prompt the user so maybe they'll feel inclined to look at the changelog. • 4.) Google is always striving to track you. Even if you open a new Incognito Tab. https://www.forbes.com/sites/daveywinder/2020/06/03/google-chrome-privacy-lawsuit-could-you-get-a-5000-payout-incognito-mode-class-action/#6f51bc001485 • 5.) While the code/core of Edge is based on C/C++ just like Chrome, Microsoft is already working on improving the C/C++ Code within Edge. This is where Microsoft is considering looking at a more modern language called Rust, that Firefox already uses! • 6.) Edge can run Chrome extensions. Being that edge has so many features out of the box, I find myself not needing many extensions anyway. • 7.) Even though Edge has gone through some drastic layout changes over the past few years, Microsoft has always been proud to display how it uses less RAM than other browsers. I find that it "backgrounds" or hibernates tabs very efficiently. I can't speak for everyone's computer setup, as different people may be using different extensions for their browser, so try it out for yourself and see if Edge eats up as much RAM as Chrome or Firefox. • 8.) Edge has very easy Privacy settings - If you've setup a Windows 10 machine for the first time, you may know what I'm talk about - it has a bunch of Sliders, that explains each aspect of the privacy setting that you're enabling or disabling. ○ The settings are "Basic"/"Balanced"/"Strict". • 9.) Tab Groups and Collections. You can organize tabs into groups because managing a ton of open tabs can VERY MUCH get messy. For instance, I can right click on any of my Edge tabs and "add to collection". This is an integration that Microsoft has with Pinterest. Additionally, that collections features is getting the ability to send to Word, Excel, or One Note. This is a great way to make an outline in based on the collections you've created. Right off the top of my head, this would be great for something like recipes. https://www.liventerprise.com/compare/Google_Chrome_vs_Microsoft_Edge/ • 10.) Built-in Tracking Prevention. This is also in the same area that I've mentioned for Privacy settings in #8. There is a "Blocked Trackers" area that allows you to view the sites that they've blocked from tracking you. I was VERY surprised at how many sites appeared in that list! As of this podcast episode, the current trackers blocked by Edge in my browser so far are: 13,093. https://www.howtogeek.com/659857/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-microsoft-edge-browser/ I'd like to thank you for putting time aside to listen to the podcast. SO much has happened in the world since last week's show and we felt strongly that it would be a very missed opportunity if we didn't use our platform AND our white privilege to start a conversation about racism and the challenges facing our country today. And because parenting is our wheelhouse and racism is VERY MUCH a parenting issue, we felt it would be helpful to talk about it through that lens. There are so many emotions attached to this topic and humanity has reached a watershed moment in history where change HAS to happen. Now. So have a listen and join the conversation. LIFE UNfiltered is something new. Something different. Something real and raw and relatable. It's a brand-new talk show that celebrates the messy, perfectly imperfect parts of life. Every Sunday from 11:30AM until noon, show hosts author & syndicated columnist Lisa Sugarman and licensed psychotherapist Debra Gansenberg, MSW, LICSW talk about the everyday issues that are affecting them as moms, wives, working professionals, and friends. Gansenberg, the mom of three boys, and Sugarman, the mom of two daughters, take the theme from their latest book How To Raise Perfectly Imperfect Kids And Be Ok With It, and apply it to every aspect of life from raising kids and marriage to work and self-care and everything in between. They talk, unfiltered, about all the stuff that's keeping you up at night. And here's the thing… they actually give you permission to make mistakes and drop some balls. And be ok with it. Each week, Lisa and Debra focus on topics that affect all of us and have open, honest conversations about the good, the bad, the ugly, and all the moving parts that make up our day-to-day lives. They incorporate a mix of clinical advice, stories, tips, proven strategies from the trenches AND the therapy couch, and a bunch of laughs, to help you find the magic within life's screwups. So set your alarms for 11:29AM EST every Sunday morning so you don't miss a single second of LIFE UNfiltered. These are the two episodes where everything falls apart for Pegasus and the doctors buy the hospital. Over the course of these two episodes everything is VERY MUCH up in the air, but luckily at the end of episode 16 we say goodbye to Alana Kayhill and hello to Jackson Avery? Whether you have a dog or not, this episode will likely make you LOL, keep your mind off of COVID-19, and teach you some practical tips for life! Everyone who walks by her tells us she's the prettiest dog they've ever seen. Which is AWESOME! But don't let her cute looks fool you... While we love her very much, we are VERY MUCH learning lessons on patience, sacrifice, and how much work having a puppy can be! Frankie & I will share with you: What's been the most frustrating part of having a puppy? What are the biggest sacrifices we've experienced? Why is intentionality in our marriage more important than ever? How to set boundaries, even when saying NO isn't easy? Why research makes a difference? How to get creative with your PAWenting? Why planning ahead & having disciplined habits matters! This quick, hilarious podcast episode will leave you chuckling to yourself over Frankie & my puppy drama, a few tips for personal growth, and either make you want a puppy really bad or decide PAWenting will never be your thang. HulloSoHere's another groovy interview I very much enjoyed doing with the amazing inspiration that is John Osborne-Hughes. Last Year I went on one of his spiritual acting weekends and truly enjoyed the buzz, the ideals, the exercises and the places I went to in such a short time to improve my craft. The thoughtful and mind stretching nature of this course can - I think - be hugely beneficial to folks so, if you fancied a look, havealookdooo! Here's links to Johns courses in London and beyond! And email him for info on this address info@spiritualpsychologyofacting.comAnd here he is on TWITTERI have to confess my laptop went berserk around the time of recording this so lost the 'cleaner' recording I had of this interview. So apologies, the ep is allll in skype type quality - I did my very bestest to sort it as much as I knew how....it's the quality of info that counts right? So hurray for the wonderful John, who I think gives us as actors and as people much great advice, things to ponder, improve on, and best of all, there's some elements of meditation to this ep which I hope you'll find useful.Thank you wonderous peoples! If ya have a few moments, I would VERY MUCH appreciate you helping me - and others who won Pulse Award grants (From the British Podcast Awards/Wellcome Trust) - to make a groovy podcast - by taking a few minutes to fill in this survey about podcast listening habits...so they can gauge a before and after to see if our new Wellcome Trusr and British Podcast Awards funded podcasts make a difference! Fertile Ground: A mind-body approach to getting pregnant - without it taking over your life.
As much as I know from first-hand experience what the fertility journey is like, and after coaching 100’s of women – I still VERY MUCH want to know what you’re personally going through. I never want to lose touch with that. Like, what thoughts are keeping you up at night… and what’s thoughts are playing on loop in your brain like a super catchy, but over-played Billy Ray Cyrus song
This question was sent by MaryLu, and she writes: “I’ve been with you for only a few days, but what you say is right-on. I'm 78 years old, and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, and advanced degrees in piano performance, organ performance and church music. At the moment I work full time at a large church where I direct 4 choirs and play all English and Latin Masses. I also play several organ recitals a year. Over the last few years I have found that I'm in a rut, replaying organ repertoire that I've been playing for years, so this year I'm breaking out of that rut and preparing new repertoire which I plan to use for the first time this November. And I would VERY MUCH like a bit of guidance. Rheinberger Organ Sonata #17 in B Major (registration especially, though it seems straight-forward, I can't seem to get it just right. Bach "Little" Fugue in g minor (Can't believe I'd never played that one!!) which you have already reviewed -- that's how I found you! Alain Litanies I know this doesn't answer your questions, but . . . . . Thank you for being here! MaryLu”
In today's toasty episode, Jess reacts LIVE to the crimes of the hotdog toaster. You won't get uncut emotions like this on any other podcast. Except for Beautiful Anonymous, needless to say. Later, Jess then drags us back, VERY MUCH kicking and screaming, to the Grosser Green Grocer. Also, for today's episode, I'm experimenting with skipping the noise reduction that I usually run on our audio. This means more background hiss, but hopefully more natural-sounding voices. Please do me a favor, and let me know what you think: Twitter: @CriticEveryone Facebook Fan Page: https://www.facebook.com/Everyones-a-Critic-2327696304154655/ foreveracritic@gmail.com As usual, we also appreciate you letting a friend know about the show, and also dropping us a big review on the iTunes.
Listen to how my pathetic rant about my injured palate, turns to a freaking serious statement of how much I hate toxic people on Social Media and how I think people who despise it, handling it the wrong way... I really didn't even get to enjoy my Chrysanthemum tea in peace with my head filled with rage on how my sister was watching an IG live but the persona was doing a Q&A session... But that 17 years old girl was literally answering the questions with an attitude just to get attention... I really hate Toxic Attention Seekers... Very Much... So much that I can pour a freaking drink on their head if I meet one...
This week is very much a carryover from the "Maker Therapy" discussion we had last week. This is absolutely an open discussion that we VERY MUCH invite you to join us on. I’m Paula Whidden. I’ve ministered to teens and kids for 30 years, and now I’m helping moms to raise their kids with a Biblical foundation. This podcast is meant to help moms find a place to connect with one another and realize that you aren’t alone. As you listen to the podcast, would you please rate and review it on whatever venue you hear. This is incredibly helpful because when people are searching they scan those reviews to see if this will be valuable to them. I read every one of them. One review said, “Paula is a smart, entertaining woman who bridges the gap between so many with her open, loving way she approaches important topics. We need more people like her in this world." Right now, I’m sitting in my home office as the breeze is blowing outside my Southern California home. I’m drinking some mint tea, which is one of my favorites. And, I’m excited to spend this time with you. During this time of year, I’ve noticed that people get so tense and I find myself getting tense right alongside them. I’m not sure if it’s because there is less light or if it’s because we have such high expectations for ourselves and others at this season. For some reason when it’s darker longer, I notice that the space around me feels tighter, especially when I’m in the Walmart parking lot. When I mention loving my neighbor to people I know, they often talk about my next door neighbors. Is that where your imagination went? And in today’s world, we are all so busy on so many varying schedules that it’s tough to get to know your neighbor. If I'm very genuine, I’ve reached out and said “hi,” to my neighbors. I know most of their names unless they aren’t forthcoming. I try to be nice, but we don’t hang out and visit regularly. That’s not who my neighbors are. So, then what are we talking about here. If I’m not trying to teach you how to build a friendship in the neighborhood, then what can I possibly bring to the table on the topic of loving your neighbor? What Does Kindness Look Like In the Bible? I think we’ve really limited the view of who our neighbors are. We know it’s important to love our neighbors because Jesus told us in Matthew 22. When He was asked what the greatest commandment was, He responded, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” What Jesus is saying here, all those “rules” that people think about when they think about God are summed up in these two things: loving God and loving others. That’s the main point of all those rules. I know you're probably thinking, that’s great Paula, I’ve heard this stuff before, but how do I teach it to my kids? Stick with me mommas, this will connect. In Luke 10, Jesus told the story of a man who was traveling and got attacked. That man was left to die, and a few people crossed his path without even really looking at him. Then, one man who shouldn’t have cared one way or the other noticed him. This is the part of the story most people forget. The man who saw him wasn’t from his community. He wasn’t part of the “IN” crowd. Actually, he was a bit of an outcast. He was called a Samaritan. Today we have “Good Samaritan” laws based on this story. But the man who was beaten was a Jew, and the helper was a Samaritan, and they were not friends. If they had met in another situation, they would have probably glared at one another. They would have probably avoided one another. Imagine different extreme groups like the Hatfields and the Macoys, the Crips and the Bloods, or the conservative Republican and the LGBTQ Democrat. That’s what these two people were to each other. And yet, in this situation at this time, the Samaritan didn’t see “a Jew” he saw a human in need. So, he helped and fed and made sure he was cared for. He even went above and beyond on kindness. When Jesus finished this story, He told the people listening to, “Go and do the same.” That’s a convicting story from the Bible. It challenges us to rethink who are neighbors are. If you haven’t read the whole thing before, here's a LINK to it. Who Is My Neighbor? Whoever... - the skater - the conservative - the liberal - the President - the garbage guy - the Pastor - the tattoo artist - the pole dancer Matthew 5:46 (NLT) If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. Our challenge is to really do it even if they don’t love you back. Mommas, our kids are watching us. They want to know if we will do it. Because if we do it, then it might be important. I would love to say that I’m always great at this, but I have struggled. Especially when I’m behind the wheel of my car. I’m seriously tempted to say something harsh about the person who cut me off on the road or took the parking place I waited 5 minutes to claim. 5 whole minutes. What is Love? But I’ve been asking God to help me with this. As a reminder to myself, for a long time, I’ve had words on my kitchen wall that quoted 1 Corinthian 13. My wall said, “Love is patient, love is kind.” I put those words on my wall as a reminder to myself because often I found myself yelling down my hallway at my kids. Do you do that? The wall I placed those words on was the one I looked at as I yelled down the hallway. So, I was forcing myself to think before I screamed. I’m apparently a slow learner because there were many times I yelled and then noticed the words. But eventually, I started seeking God’s guidance on how I could be firm yet kind with my kids. I really noticed the changes that were happening in me when I was in a store parking lot recently, and I positioned our minivan to pull out onto the main road. A pale blue, large Ford truck drove around me and pulled out onto the road just as I was pulling out. I took a breath and out of my mouth came, “Thank you VERY MUCH. You LOVELY LADY.” At that moment, I was completely unaware that my daughter was sitting in the car. This is what naturally came out of my mouth. I probably wouldn’t have thought more about it, except she kept telling people about it. “You should have seen my mom,” she kept saying. “She was so upset she called that woman a LOVELY LADY.” I was just grateful that God had helped me to keep my temper and not verbally vomit on my kid. I’m not above that. This was God helping me to actually be kinder than I would be on my own. As we’re seeking to love our neighbors, knowing what love really is matters. I know you’re probably rolling your eyes and thinking. Paula, I know what love is. And maybe you do. But I didn’t. That’s why I adore 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. It Will Be Awkward As we train our children, they will encounter mean people or people who are different from them, people who make them uncomfortable. We are still directed by the Bible to love them. Several years ago, when I was single, I was invited to go to a Halloween event that I had never even heard of. It was a Halloween parade in West Hollywood, which is lovingly called WeHo out here. The friends who invited me were not Christian, but they weren’t wacko or mean. They wanted to have some fun and asked me along. I had a feeling it would be a different kind of event, but I had no idea what it would be like. A very vocal Christian neighbor of my friends informed me that I wouldn’t be Christian if I went to this event. So, I found myself praying and asking God if I should go. I was pretty clear that God wanted me to go, but I couldn’t begin to tell you why. 5 of us hopped into a car and headed to the parade. When I got there, I discovered it was a parade of crossdressers, transgendered men and women, and a bunch of other people. I saw people dressed up for Halloween as baby Jesus, the crucified Jesus, and a squad of men who were dressed and acting as cheerleaders. Needless to say, this is not the regular group I hung out with. As I walked down Santa Monica Boulevard, it felt as if God was saying. “Now, pray.” It seemed as if I was supposed to be there the pray for the people I saw and to remember that Jesus loves them too. This image and these people have stuck with me many years later. Being loving can be awkward. It can feel uncomfortable to be kind when someone is outside of your natural community. But that’s precisely the challenge. Teach By Example As we teach our kids to be kind, it’s easy to explain them to be kind to the kid they have a bunch in common with. It’s easy to help them to be patient with people who hang out with them regularly. But the challenging and real stuff is when we seek to be kind and patient and not proud or rude or boastful to people who don’t like us, who aren’t kind back. Keep Trying When you are genuinely loving - aka patient, kind, etc., some people will have a problem with it. People who want anger to be everywhere or are used to having anger everywhere will have a problem with it. That’s okay, be loving anyway. Mother Teresa was a fantastic example of loving your neighbor. She moved to a country very different from her own. At a time when people were dying from famine and disease in a community that ignored them because it must be their lot in life, Mother Teresa started a home for the dead and dying. She expanded that to creating a children’s home. She built up a large community of people who served alongside her in very uncomfortable situations where there was no obvious reward to be received. This poem is written on the wall in Mother Teresa's home for children in Calcutta: People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway. If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway. What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today will often be forgotten. Do good anyway. Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway. In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway. Our babies are watching. They will learn what we do much faster and more than what we say. If we tell them to be kind and respect others and yet they witness our lack of kindness, they are still being taught. They are sponges. You won’t always succeed, so be willing to apologize and learn. Then, try again. This applies to how you treat your spouse, especially those of you who have been divorced or still connect with your babies daddy who was never your spouse. This applies to how you treat in-laws. Romans 12:18 (NLT) Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. As we train our child, we can make it our mantra to remind them to treat others the way you want to be treated which is one way of saying: Luke 6:31(NLT) Do to others as you would like them to do to you. This is a regularly used expression in our home. When my girls fight, as we talk it out and seek to understand one another I often find my self-reminding them to treat each other the way you want to be treated. This doesn’t mean we treat people how we have been treated or how they want to treat us, but how we would want them to treat us. Go And Do The Same Mommas, we need to do the same to one another, to people we see on T.V., to people we hear about on the radio or podcasts. We are role models, like it or not. They are watching and learning from us all the time. I want to be clear, this doesn’t mean that we allow people to harm us or abuse us in the name of being loving to them. A drowning person is entitled to want to get out of the water, so please, if this is your situation, get out of the water. Once you are in a safe place, the next step is seeking how to be wise and how to be loving (to the best of your ability). If you’ve made it this far, then you must have liked or been challenged by what you heard. 1. INTRO I’d be surprised to meet someone not familiar with HGTV in some way. HGTV has become quite a force in our American culture kicking off the DIY phenomenon, the urban farmhouse movement with Chip and Joanna Gaines, and the young, colorful, whimsical design aesthetic that HGTV is known for. Honestly, HGTV probably doesn’t have a lot of high end designer fans because of their not-so-realistic design transformations as it relates to the budget but we still appreciate HGTV for a lot of ways. We appreciate them VERY MUCH right now as we are finalists in the 2018 Faces of Design competition which we want to tell you all about. Mark tries to carry out the plan he hatched at the end of the last episode. Technically, in terms of pure quantity, not much happens in this recording. But what DOES happen is pretty damn big, and it happens VERY MUCH. A good episode to end 2017 with, I think.

Additionally, she's starred in some of the top-selling fitness videos including “Flat Abs Fast,” “Bootcamp Bikini Body,” and “Get Me In My Skinny Jeans.” Danette has worked with some of the top fitness professionals in the industry including Jillian Michaels and George St. Pierre. For the first time ever, Danette shared her “$47 story” at my wife’s event, The Bliss Project. After the fear of being too vulnerable subsided, Danette now shares her story with the world to let us all know, that it is VERY MUCH possible to change your life, the minute you change your mindset. “I feel like so many of us are just going through life on cruise control.” After losing her second-born during childbirth, Danette spiraled into a deep depression. She went from being an active fitness leader to a young Mom who couldn't bring herself to get out of the house for months. “Looking back I like to call it a refiners moment, it's how glass and diamonds are made. You are getting burned, but turn out better than ever.” Just when you thought things couldn't get worse, she tells us the terrible things her ex had put her through including wiping the bank account clean, leaving her with her two daughters broke. “I remember telling my girls we were going to play a game, to try and find any and all money we could around the house, including in-between the couch cushions. We came up with $47.63” Survival mode set in. There was no way she was going to allow her ex to bring her and her beautiful baby-girls down like that. Starting off with books and podcasts, Danette educated herself each day. Not having money was never an excuse. There is so much coaching for free on the internet, if you are willing to belly up and listen to it. Fast forwarding to today, Danette has become one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the business. Not only did she move on spiritually and financially, but Danette is now also married and continues raising her two young daughters who I know will only be just as successful as Danette, when they are older. “The motto in our family is “Small hinges move big doors.” I know that my eldest daughter knows that money takes work and showing up in even the smallest ways each day.” Having Danette on my podcast today was such an honor. Her life advice and the inspiration she exudes cant be topped. A story of a really bad travel experience in 2012.... that ended up with me being alive. Thanks (or no thanks?) to my procrastination. / / / / / ------------- / / Transcript: / / There was a time when I was VERY MUCH into crossfit. It's this exercise cult thing- and they have their own games- like the olympic games, but with weight lifting and way less attention to personal safety. / / / / In 2012, the crossfit games were being held in LAX in July- and I was gonna go. / / / / First problem: I procrastinated too long and didn't have a ticket AND they were sold out.. No scalpers online, either. Hmm. No worries. I called up my local paper and asked if they could give me a press pass. They did, weirdly? And I was off. / / / / The trip was scheduled to go something like this: / / DAYTON- DENVER - LAX. Arrive on Friday morning in time for the opening ceramonies. Stay in LA for the games that weekend? Visit some friends in Ventura. Travel back to Dayton on Wednesday--- plenty of time before my next trip: Family vacation in Montreal- on Friday. / / All in all- it was supposed to be 6 flights in less than a week. Pfft. Whatever. I can do that. / / / / So- I'm off to catch my first flight. / / ?.and?.I accidentally slept a little longer than I should have and?.. I miss the flight?. But 4 minutes?.. / / Which means that I would have missed my connecting flight in Denver, too. Which means that my whole schedule was now screwed up as it was delayed a day. / / / / Ok? I'm gonna miss the opening ceremony? Whatever. I'm not being paid for this- it's just for fun, right??? RIGHT??? / / / / Sigh. Ok. So I'm on the next flight. That one goes?. Kinda?. We arrive in Denver and then get delayed in denver due to lack of planes. Something about a huge storm somewhere else- which means that I'm stuck in Denver for 9 hours. / / / / ?? Ok. Fine?. I try to tackle some writing assignments I had, but I'm in an airport!!! There is SO MUCH PEOPLE watching!!!! / / I put off my assignment until I land. / / / / And?.. By the time I DO get to LAX it's Sunday morning. I totally give up trying to get to the stadium for the last 4 hours of the competition and just go to Ventura to meet with my friends and wash the gross off me. / / / / I have a good time there. And we discuss all the hiccups of traveling?. / / / / Missing flights. / / Getting on wrong flights. (That happened a lot in the 70s, apparently). / / We missed our dinner reservation entirely because we were chatting so much. (Opps!) / / / / Wednesday comes- my friends take me to the airport. My flight is delayed due to lots of reasons, but it's also WAY over booked. I offer to take a later flight- but insisting I need to get to Dayton before FRIDAY MORNING? / / / / They say "yea yea. No problem." And book me on the next flight and give me a 200$ voucher. / / / / Btw- if you heard a previous podcast where I talked about having a voucher- this is how you get it. Except! PRO TIP: You wait (or ask nicely) if they can bump it up to the full value? which is somewhere between 350-400$? ask for cash. Never vouchers. Also get a hotel room and all that jazz? I was a n00b and didn't do any of this. So I just got 200$ cash voucher with Delta. / / / / Ah. Delta? it stands for "Doesn't Ever. Leave. The. Airport?? and it's not talking about the plane? it's talking about it's passengers?. / / / / I was in the airport all day on Wednesday. The "next available flight" they promised? Was Thursday morning. / / / / I "slept" in the airport- thank god for tetnus vaccinations, and woke up ready for all sorts of chaos but DETERMINED to get to Dayton that evening for my 6am flight to Montreal the following morning. / / / / My flight had changed slightly. I was now scheduled to go LAX to SFO to DEN to DAY? ok. No big deal. An additional flight, right? What could go wrong? / / / / ?? Why did I have to ask that? / / / / Our flight was delayed getting INTO sfo? and then delayed getting OUT of SFO. And by the time I arrived in Denver, it was Thursday evening of July 19th and I knew I wasn't going to make it to Montreal. / / / / I?. Make the really sad call to my parents. / / / / I then stand in the never-ending line for a hotel pass- figuring I procrastinated on life enough and I should actually do something? While standing in line, I mentally decide that if I don't get a hotel, I'll go to see Batman in the closest theater- which probably won't have tickets, but whatever, I'll give it a go. I have hours to kill, so why not try, right? / / / / Well? You're smart, audience. You know exactly what happened in Aurora on July 20th?. During a batman screening. / / / / My mom tells me this. / / It doesn't quite process? / / I hang up, shower and get breakfast. I watch the horror that all of America watched that morning?.. / / / / I make my way to the airport. EARLY. I check into my flight. EARLY. The TSA agent was polite and really attentitive- which is, oddly, what I expected him to be after a mass shooting 17 miles from this location. / / / / My flight was delayed, of course. Eff-you, Delta. But I finally made it to Dayton by noon. / / / / Alive. / / / / The only thing this whole experience taught me- was that I CAN control some things?.. Like my procrastination. And there are other things that I can?t control?.. Like weather?. Tornados, hurricanes, and? wildfires. Oh- Right. This just in: I?m a wild land firefighter. Contract right now- but I?ve already fought a few! And it?s exhilarating! It?s probably the coolest adrenaline rush since I was in the Philippines. / / / / But? what that means is that I?m probably not going to get my podcasts out on time?.So- I?m taking a break. Until the season here in Minnesota dies down- which is June, apparently. / / / / But stay tuned! I have a mini-series about packing coming up! I also had this cool podcast about Sarajevo- but that?s just gonna have to wait until I get it perfect. It deserves that. / / / / In the meantime, if you?re aching for more stories?. You can go to my blog at LNLurie.com, reach me at LN.Lurie@yahoo.com or my Facebook - which will have heaps of pictures uploaded kinda daily? www.facebook.com/whereisLN
The fourth episode of Vaulting the Shark, , where everything is made up and the audio quality obviously doesn't matter, is VERY MUCH all over the place! Russel Harder and Peter Millions talk about the true Greatness of Britain, James' Bond and Franco, numerous aspects of Star Wars (both the upcoming video game, flammability of Anakin Skywalker, and lazy eco-systems of planets in a galaxy far far away). They also dive into Marvel comic books, and there relationship with Sony, Fox, and the MCU! This is a life podcast, an entertainment podcast, it's a conversation between long-time friends. Questions and comments can be left on our iTunes page, as well as sent to either and/or both of us on Twitter!
