We are VERY MUCH back for Tokyo Films with Jared's pick for this week. This pick came with a few guests! Josh and John stop by to give their insight into this film. Josh had just come back from Tokyo and we enjoyed hearing about his journey through the countryside and the city itself. The pick came from the director of Jared's favorite Studio Ghibli film, director Isao Takahata's “Pom Poko” Ladies and Gentlemen, this film was absolutely nuts. This film is a 5 out of 5. A true wacky masterpiece. We loved talking through the animation style, the deeper themes, the very obvious presence of scrotum, and other things. We hope you enjoy!Film Discussed: Pom Poko (1994)Letterboxd: Eric Peterson:letterboxd.com/EricLPeterson/ Jared Klopfenstein:letterboxd.com/kidchimp/ Ethan Jasso:letterboxd.com/e_unit7/ Caleb Zehr:letterboxd.com/cjzehr/ Ricky Wickham:letterboxd.com/octopuswizard/ Cody Martin: letterboxd.com/codytmartin/Here is a COMPLETE LIST of every film that we have done an episode for. Clark Carlton is back on the show this week to discuss a topic that is VERY MUCH needed right now. Many of us saw Texas Senator Ted Cruz make a complete fool of himself in his recent interview with Tucker Carlson. He stated that he believes that the "Israel" mentioned in the Book of Genesis is the same as the current State of Israel which was founded in 1948. Unfortunately, there are many folks who still believe this sort of thing and it's partially because they've been taught bad theology for years. It is worse when politicians have such bad Biblical understanding that they want their poor understanding to also inform their views on foreign policy. Luckily, there are wise men like Dr Carlton who can simply and articulately explain what is meant when we speak of the Israel of the Bible. Clark Carlton is an author and editor of the Ludwell Orthodox Fellowship. He has also taught philosophy for more than twenty-five years. A native of Tennessee, he earned a B.A. in philosophy from Carson-Newman College, an M.Div. from St. Vladimir's Seminary, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America. He is the author of "The Faith" Series and has been published in the Saint Vladimir's Theological Quarterly, the Journal of Early Christian Studies, Christian Bioethics, and Histoire de la Littérature Grecque Chrétienne des Origines à 451. There's not much Andor left to review, so "Who Else Knows?" fits snugly in the middle of the final story arc before we get to Rogue One. Episode 10 had emotion, flashbacks, and the death of Luthen Rael. Episode 11 is all ticking clock and pulse codes.Kleya has become a favorite character and seeing her at risk made every moment feel more stressful. Meero's reaching the end of her rope. Heert seems ineffectual, but who else do you get to do the job? Krennic is on the verge of panic. Partagaz is already there. The adminstration on Yavin wants to prevent a mission for safety's sake when completing the mission quickly might be the only thing that KEEPS them safe. Not much happens, if you think about it, but since three episodes dropped at once, it works well as a bridge to the finale. It might not be easy to remember, but after finishing episode 11 of season two, we STILL weren't sure Kleya would make it. Oh, we knew Andor, Melshi, and K-2SO were going to be fine, but killing Luthen meant Kleya was VERY MUCH at risk. Having Rogue One just an episode of streaming television away felt like watching a magic trick get explained after you've already seen the prestige. Actually, that's a good description: we've seen the pledge and know the prestige, so the turn is coming. There's still a chance to send in a comment to the email address we reveal in our podcasts. A good subject line helps us know what episode you're referencing. (Note: the episode art is an itsy-bitsy preview of the full design that will be revealed on April 26th) One of our favorite Alien Day traditions is our annual t-shirt unveiling. Over the past near-decade, we've gotten to work with tons of gifted artists from around Alien fandom – and this year is VERY MUCH no exception. DeadDark – whose actual name is Ross, and who can be found on IG here (for his digital art @deaddark23) and here (for his tattooing @_deaddark) – is a crazy talented artist/Alien Saga superfan. On today's episode, Perry and Patrick chat with Ross about all things xenomorph, and share a little preview of the art that will be fully unveiled on Alien Day (just four days from now!). Make sure you don't miss a thing on April 26th by following us on socials if you aren't already! The shirt will be unveiled in the afternoon, and it will be available at a promotional discount for a limited time. fter nearly ten years with everyone’s favorite console/handheld hybrid, Nintendo is FINALLY gracing the world with a grand-scale presentation of the Switch successor, the Nintendo Switch 2. So, what better way to hype ourselves up for the big N’s upcoming hardware than to fantasize a bunch of our pie-in-the-sky. “what-if” wishes that we want to see out of the new console, along with some educated guesses and predictions to throw around amongst ourselves. Joining Ed, George, and Sean this time around is Hayes Madsen, a games journalist currently penning words at inverse.com, who worked at over a dozen other outlets, and has graciously accepted the invite to discuss a slew of topics for this week’s episode! On the cast, the crew will weigh in on their shared impressions of this year’s GDC, the state of indie games, Game Informer’s return, and everything Nintendo leading up to the Switch 2 Direct! Also, a bit of warning; we unfortunately ran into some recording hiccups that slightly affected the audio quality of this episode, but rest assured PPR-gonauts, the latest show is VERY MUCH still listenable, so please, enjoy all while we collectively salivate at the promise of consistent frame-rates and 4K resolution from Nintendo of all things!Mail us at our new email Mailbag@presspauseradio.com, leave a voicemail at 469-PPR-TALK, and be sure to stop by at our Forums if you haven’t already registered and post your thoughts about the show. Hi Beloved. There is NO DOUBT we are on the cusp of an economic tail wind, shifting into the ecosystem of “Sound Money” through transparency. TRUE CONFESSION: I purchased Bitcoin in 2011, and 5 years later, sold due to it's scandal in the dark web and child trafficking (proven). XRP? Yes please. You're about to learn why. KASS. Digital assets? That's not your vibe. Glad you asked. It actually VERY MUCH is my vibe as an avid economic student. I will be dropping in here and there with foundational education for us to come around the table, learn from and ultimately support you in understanding your options as we move from one decline to the greatest incline in history. This may not make any sense to you - but I suggest listening and letting your subconscious mind to take it in, so when this does hit peak, you have some insights that will remove fear and embody greater understanding. This video features my Friend Rob Dunningham and Kyle. READY? Let's break down the tech stacks behind the emerging digital asset ecosystem. There's a lot of nuance and legal precedent that's important to understand. On one side, we have Bitcoin - the mysterious crypto that's been hyped relentlessly by the media for 16 years. But what does it really do? Payments? Smart contracts? Scalability? Efficiency? Then there's Ethereum - the smart contract platform invested in by CCP-linked entities, JP Morgan, etc. Its founder Vitalik Buterin even crashed on the couch of Ripple's early CTO.And let's talk about Tether - the offshore, unaudited stablecoin whose magical printing seems to prop up Bitcoin's price. Suspicious much?On the other hand, you have Ripple and XRP. XRP has clear legal definition as a virtual currency, not a security. It has real-world use cases, efficiency, and transparency that the others lack.Ripple built on top of the open-source XRP Ledger, similar to how Red Hat built on Linux. This allows interoperability, smart contracts, tokenization, and more across the crypto ecosystem. The key is the XRP token - it acts as the "motor oil" enabling fast, low-cost value transfer between any two parties or ledgers. It's the glue that binds this entire system together. With the RLUSD stablecoin backed 1:1 by reserves and XRP required for all transactions, this seems to be the digital dollar framework envisioned by Trump to keep the USD dominant. The legal clarity, real-world use cases, and technology behind Ripple/XRP make it stand out in this space. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. What are your thoughts on the future of digital assets?Thank you to Rob and Captain Kyle. We appreciate your ruthless research, leadership and timeWhere we go one- we go all. Love, Kassandra. PS: Share with a friend. And….follow my X Threads for the most recent real world shifts. When Jean Harris met Herman Tarnower in the winter of 1966, she quickly fell in love the charming doctor. Having just come out of a disappointing twenty-year marriage, Harris was desperate to find the love and stimulating partnership she'd long dreamed of, and believed she'd finally found it in the intellectual Tarnower and the two would live happily ever after. Episode 36 - All About the Big Red Cheese This week we are taking a major diversion from our normal path, and taking a look at Marvel's Distinguished Competition. That's right, we mentioned a while ago that we would be starting to branch out a bit, and with the new Shazam! Movie appearing in theaters this weekend I wanted to get Duane up to speed on the original Captain Marvel, one of the oldest heroes in comics – a character that once was more popular than Superman himself! This Week In Comics Brian Michael Bendis Announces Fortune & Glory Sequel Marvel Teases the Debut of a New Spider-Man Hero Recommendation: DC stories for new comic readers Morrison's All-Star Superman George Perez's Wonder Woman Alex Ross's Justice This Week's Stack Shazam Vol. 1 (1973) Shazam! Power of Hope (2000) Shazam! The Monster Society Of Evil (2007) Creator Focus: Jeff Smith 2 Minute Recap and Discussion Topics Shazam Vol. 1 This is VERY MUCH a kids book, but also VERY meta aware, with numerous references to “I remember him from when I was a kid…he doesn't look a day older.” Kid superhero, no surprise, was well liked by kids “Mr. Binder” is a reference to Otto Binder. Wrote many classic Captain Marvel stories, and also co-created Supergirl. Very much feels like the first Shazam film Quick history of Captain Marvel and why Shazam is used Shazam! Power of Hope Alex Ross is like no other comic artist. He is our Norman Rockwell. Many of his characters are based on real people, who serve as models for his illustrations. The model for Shazam has been the same person for decades. This is a simple, powerful story. Tells a wonderful story with some action and makes you think after finishing it. Shazam! The Monster Society Of Evil A very fun story, and a love letter to the whole history of CM/Shazam Has a very “old fashioned” feel Not something to think too deeply on Adults aren't cast in a friendly light throughout this. Call back to older Villains – Dr. Sivana. Has a “friend” (Tawny) who can change forms? The “Big Red Cheese”? What on Earth is that? Click on the link below for the full post. https://www.trustthelink.com/what-is-the-difference-between-blogging-and-guest-posting/ Blogging is when you post written content on your own website and guest posting is when you post content on someone else's website. You might be wondering should I do both, should I just focus on my website what about backlinks? I like the idea of re-purposing your written content on other websites. It is VERY MUCH worth it. You might be wondering how it can help you. One way it helps is it forces you to put links in your blog post to related articles. This is called interlinking and it does help your posts with getting seen in the search engines. Then when you post an article on another website some of those people will click a link and check out your website. This is the reason I would do it for MORE visitors to my website. Backlinking is "A whole other" story. Funny, I got started in internet marketing over 10 years ago with a program called "Backlink Battleplan" and I could rank anything by spamming backlinks. Then came the Google updates and all my rankings vanished. I don't focus on building backlinks anymore and I don't worry about them for SEO purposes and stuff. Instead, I believe it's WAY WAY better to focus on creating better (more helpful) content. If your content is more helpful than the competition you will win. If you try to manipulate Google (they are very smart) you will probably lose. I know I was big into black hat techniques and I lost. You do want as many people to visit your website as possible. The more people who visit my blog = more money. As long you know how to monetize traffic, which is a whole other topic. One more point is if you do guest posting, I would choose opportunities where you can also post on your website. Basically, you only have upside when guest posting and NO downside = no brainer decision! You might be wondering about the pros and cons of both. The largest pro to blogging on your website is you own the content. You have more control over it, it's more secure and you can always sell the website in the future for money. If you just do guest posting and you don't have a website then you're at the mercy of someone else. This is riskier and less secure. This is why doing both is the way to go. You own the content on your own website and you can get traffic from someone else's. You might be wondering if it's a good idea to allow other people to post on your website. I think this is a good idea as long as you can post it on their website. This way you both get traffic and both win. You can also do this with email by promoting each other's email lists, Youtube channels, and more if you want! The main thing is you want helpful content on your site and that is the "north star" I would ensure. I hope this was helpful. If you want to learn more about my content battle plan I talk more about this in a post you can check out by clicking on the link in the descriptioin or go to trustthelink.com. I also share where to do guest blogging. Enough about me. Also, what is your favorite platform to post to? What platform has gotten you the Best results? I'm curious. Have a nice day.

Thirty years of Rosie Perez being thirsty and men just don't understand it. But we do. Well us and Siskel & Ebert. The natural progression of film criticism. What does that sound like? A Peruvian voice is no authority for black culture in America as seen in the films of 1992. So instead we rely on the two white guys on the show. White men from Kentucky. (at 10:51) Indiana Basketball ranked 19th and 21st in way-too-early top 25s, but that could change at any time as players are subtracted and added. Synopsis “We are NOT amused,” is the dour statement attributed to the matronly Queen Victoria in her later years, although some historians dispute she ever really said it. But as a young woman, in her diary Queen Victoria did write, “I was VERY MUCH amused indeed!” after seeing the Italian opera singer Giulia Grisi on stage. The young Queen was a fan, and made a drawing of the singer in a role she created: that of Elvira in Vincenzo Bellini's opera “I Puritani,” or “The Puritans,” which debuted in Paris on today's date in 1835. When Bellini's brand-new opera came to London later that same year, with Grisi in the cast, the young Queen attended several performances, and the opera she called “Dear Puritani” became a life-long favorite, perhaps because it was the first she attended with her husband-to-be, the young Prince Albert. The opera is set in 17th century England during the Civil War between Royalist supporters of the deposed King Charles I and Puritan rebels led by Oliver Cromwell. Its plot involves a Romeo and Juliet-like love story between a delicate Puritan soprano and a dashing Royalist tenor. Unlike Shakespeare's tragedy, however, Bellini's opera provides a happy ending for its politics-crossed lovers. Music Played in Today's Program Vincenzo Bellini (1801 – 1835) — Sinfonia (Overture), fr I Puritani (Philharmonia Orchestra; Riccardo Muti, cond.) EMI 09149
As you know by now, Steely Dan's core identity is the songwriting and performative partnership of Fagen & Becker. And with the group's dissolution in the early 1980s, the partners would occasionally step out on their own and create art under their own name. With Becker abandoning the continent and seeking sobriety and a general life reset after Gaucho, it was left to Fagen to make the first solo record of the creative partnership. The Nightfly came out in 1982, and it sounds...VERY MUCH like a Steely Dan album. Even with Becker gone, much of the machinery that made Gaucho was still in action, from the involvement of the engineering and producer staffs to the roster of ace session musicians. Add in Fagen's vocals and the expected intelligence of the lyrics, and many critics viewed The Nightfly as the natural progression of the Steely Dan creative spirit --- to the point that many critics immediately assumed that Fagen had done all the heavy lifting for Steely Dan and that Becker's contributions must have been comparatively minimal. But scratch the surface of The Nightfly and you'll notice something that rarely shined through on prior Steely Dan albums --- emotions of hope, wonder, wistfulness, and playfulness. It might have sounded similar but the sentiment was very different in spots. It's lovely, it's meticulous, and it's one of the best albums of the early 1980s, but it's not the automatic carryover from Gaucho that many assumed at the time.

Apologies for skipping last week. Visiting friends and cat sitting duties made it impossible to record an episode. That Woman Next Door is available for pre-order here! Harper reveals the story behind the unfortunate naming choice of one of its characters. Harper's two attempts at writing Pink Bean 11 didn't work out so she's taking an extended break from writing. She's decided to organise another read along in her Facebook group, this time of Two Hearts Trilogy. Join the group to participate. And don't forget to answer the three questions to gain entry! Tv shows we loved recently: The Unusual Suspects (Miranda Otto is so much better than Nicole K.), The Chair (with Holland Taylor for the queer lady interest), and F*** You Very, Very Much (a hilarious Flemish show about messy Millennials.) And we rewatched the first two seasons of Sex Education which is excellent. Plus it has Gillian Anderson, so what's not to like. Caroline's book of the week is This Must Be the Place by Maggie O'Farrell, which she loved.
