This week on Every Rom Com we’re covering the foundational movie of the time loop genre - “Groundhog Day”! You’ll definitely learn something new, as we discuss everything from its filming location, to the story behind the script, to the history of Groundhog Day itself. We also delve into time loop ethics, pitch perhaps our wildest sequel idea yet, and proffer intriguing theories about Ned Ryerson. And of course we cover the romance of it all, though the most romantic part of this episode might be how Steve from “For Me These Films R The Juice” would choose to spend his time loop! Don’t miss this fact and fun-filled episode on an essential film! 0:00-12:22 - Intro, Monadnock Underground Updates From Zoe, Introducing Steve Doyle From The Podcast “For Me These Films R The Juice”! The inspiration to begin For me, these Films R the Juice came from listening to The Rewatchables and The Cine-Files podcasts and also returning to the cinema after the Covid lockdowns. These things reignited Steve’s passion for film and made him think, 'I’m going to give that a try.' The first 7 episodes of For me, these Films R the Juice are solo efforts by Steve, focusing on deep dives into some of his favourite and most seen films such as Pulp Fiction, Shaun of the Dead & No Country For Old Men. Episode 8 onwards features a guest with whom he discusses a film or film topic including a Tom Cruise Film Draft with Edward from That 80s Movie Podcast and Wayne from Recasted 2.0. Steve was a big cinephile from his mid teens to early twenties. During this period he started to gain a deeper knowledge of and appreciation for film acting, film making and film history by taking an A-Level in Film Studies and subscribing to Empire Magazine. These two avenues, along with sharing the same passion for film with two of his best friends, made Steve become fascinated by certain actors (Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Ed Norton, Ray Liotta) directors (Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppolla, Oliver Stone) and film history (the book ‘Easy Riders, Raging Bulls’, Film Documentaries and DVD ‘Making Ofs’). Episode 9 of the podcast in which Steve is joined by the close friends mentioned, Dan and Dean, to compare Al Pacino and Robert De Niro really conveys their joint love of film at that time. Outside of podcasting Steve has recently started a new job within his local hospital’s Cancer Support department which he is enjoying and finding very rewarding. Other than work, podcasting, watching films, and getting to his local driving range whenever he can, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and t

Meet James Ellis Deakins! James is a Digital Workflow Specialist, Filmmaker & Podcaster. James lives in Los Angeles and is both a creative and business partner of cinematographer Roger Deakins. James came up the ranks as a script supervisor for such films as Thunderheart, The Shawshank Redemption & Mercury Rising. She has transitioned into a Digital Workflow Specialist, working in a role James really enjoys as she gets to work with her best friend and creative partner, her husband Roger on such films as Sicario, No Country For Old Men, 1917, Blade Runner 2049, and their latest collaboration with director Sam Mendes – Empire of Light. During the pandemic, James created the TEAM DEAKINS Podcast which is a series of conversations between James and Roger and a guest, covering all aspects of movie making. This podcast is such a great resource for both beginning and seasoned filmmakers and everyone in between and I'm so excited that it's coming back for season two! I discovered James through the Team Deakins Podcast, and I decided to be bold and send the podcast an email asking if James would like to be on Blissful Spinster. To my surprise, James, herself answered and she said yes! I'm so excited to bring you my conversation with James, we laughed a lot, learned a lot and was the kind of chat that leaves you smiling. We talked about the importance of collaboration on a film, what directors can learn from a script supervisor and how we both believe in sharing our knowledge.  In 2005, acclaimed American author Cormac McCarthy released one his most famous novels, a brisk read called No Country For Old Men. Set in 1980 in Texas' sprawling border region, No Country For Old Men is all about chance and consequence set amongst the backdrop of a brewing drug war that, in modern times, we know all too well. Our audience voted for us to cover this topic -- one about money, violence, love, and happenstance -- and we did so from two angles: We watched the movies, as you requested, but we also read the book, which is quite different in a number of ways. We're absolutely thrilled to talk about the Coen Brothers' award-winning film and the novel it was based upon alike. Just remember to call the coin. Learn more about your ad choices. Taking money under the false pretense of "no involvement/complicity" can have consequences. Especially when it is blood money with nefarious connections. "I decided to make you a special project of mine. You ain't gonna have to look for me at all." Who doesn't like a good Western? After our conversation last time about The Yellow Light Trilogy we were intrigued by another community proclaimed trilogy referred to as the 2007 Western Trilogy (There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men, and The Assassination of Jesse James). Tune in and grab some popcorn as we discuss the trilogy that delves into the darkest elements of America, old and new. We also saw Jackass 4 and Netflix's All of Us Are Dead, which turned out to be a pretty great Korean zombie show.(Correction: In the podcast I say I saw There Will Be Blood in 2007 but it turns out it was in 2008. The film was released in December 2007, so it took time for its DVD release. I remembered later that the Halo tournament was in 2008 so I had to be wrong so, my apologies.   - Fortune)Projects discussed in order: Jackass 4, Netflix's All of Us Are Dead, There Will Be Blood, The Assassination of Jesse James, and No Country For Old Men
