Sisters Anney and Mechelle Bounpraseuth grew up in a world that promised paradise later. But they chose otherwise, leaving their religion to begin making paradise now!For Anney, cloth and sequins became radiant scenes of joy and survival. And for Mechelle, cans of lychees and jars of Tiger Balm, forged in clay, carry memory and care.Their work carries grief and humour, kitsch and devotion, and memories of Cabramatta markets, their mother's hands and the textures of Lao family life.
Erick Godsey uses the term "The Shimmer" as a metaphor to describe the modern internet and its effects on our minds. In this podcast, I'll talk about where this reference comes from and how Godsey relates it to the internet and our digital lives. There are four key qualities of The Shimmer, which are present in both the movie "Annihilation" and in the internet world. Using Erick Godsey's framework, I'll explain what these qualities mean for us and what we can do to navigate the internet landscape. This week we have a special guests guests CJ and Artsy from Anime Anonymous and we kick things off with a small discussion about “what counts as anime,” then we dive into Arcane Season 1 and how it is framed around the undercity vs. topside divide with the main characters Vi and Powder's break that births Jinx, and how well the show is even if you've never played the game. The biggest part is that it was done in a three-episode arc rollout, ruthless cliffhangers, the music that was amazing and the story and character development was amazing for the show we finally hit Hextech vs. Shimmer, talk about the pacing with the flashbacks. And then we finally pick favorites get called: Rick picks Ekko, Jack and CJ pick Jinx, Artsy picks Vi. About the anime: Set in the League of Legends universe, Arcane follows sisters Vi and Powder as a class struggle between the undercity of Zaun and the gleaming city of Piltover boils over. In Episode 131 of Let's Talk Learning Disabilities, Laurie interviews Chris Wang, founder of Shimmer Coaching, about accessible ADHD coaching and support services. Chris shares her personal journey from an undiagnosed hyperactive child to an entrepreneur who struggled to find affordable coaching after her diagnosis at age 28, which inspired her to create Shimmer. The conversation explores what ADHD coaching is, how it differs from therapy, the platform's unique matching process, and Shimmer's mission to make coaching accessible through significantly reduced pricing and comprehensive support services.Resources:Shimmer Coaching Website: https://www.shimmer.care/Podcast Listener Promo Code: DLS2025Let's Talk Learning Disabilities Website: https://ltldpodcast.comContact info for the podcast: letstalklearningdisabilities@gmail.comE-Diagnostic Learning Website: https://ediagnosticlearning.comSocial:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/eDiaglearning/X: @diaglearningLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/diagnostic-learning-services/Instagram: @diaglearning
Hey Team! Today I'm joined by Alex Bellitter, Senior Manager of Coaching at Shimmer, an ADHD coaching platform that's guided over 75,000 sessions. If this sounds a bit familiar, I also did an interview with Shimmer's CEO, Chris Wang, last year - but of course in this episode, we're covering a lot more and while Shimmer is mentioned it certainly isn't the focus of what we're talking about here. But back to who we're talking with today. Alex holds a Master's in Psychology and is a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. She's passionate about building a neuroinclusive approach to coaching and helping people redefine what success looks like for their unique brains. We get into what burnout really looks like for ADHD brains and how the “grind it out” mindset backfires every time. Alex shares how resilience isn't about powering through and we also unpack the ideas of capacity, how we burn through future energy, and why rest, play, and flexibility are actually key parts of productivity. Plus, we get into ADHD inertia, smart scaffolding, and that tricky process of rediscovering your strengths when your brain insists you don't have any. If you're struggling with OCD or unrelenting intrusive thoughts, NOCD can help. But leaving unscheduled blocks gives us breathing room and time for the unexpected. This means it's important that we're making sure keep at least some white space on our calendars. We can fall into the trap of treating rest like a reward for finishing everything, but rest is part of the system that keeps us going. Taking time to rest isn't laziness; it's maintenance that we sorely need. External structure, such as reminders, alarms, notes, and accountability partners, can often help ADHD brains thrive, but a lot of us carry shame around using these supports. We're not “cheating” the system by building one that works for us. These scaffoldings allow us to grow stronger over time without collapsing under pressure by giving us the support we need.

Beyond Boston: Epic Day Trips & Weekend Getaways in New EnglandBoston is amazing, but here's the thing: sometimes you've gotta escape the city limits to really soak in New England magic. Lucky for us wanderers, Boston sits at the heart of some of the coolest, quirkiest, most historic little towns in the U.S. We're talking witch trials, fishing villages, patriotic battlegrounds, and even beachy boardwalk sunsets.Grab a rental car (yes, it's finally worth it outside the city), load up on Dunkin' iced coffee, and let's road trip Travel Brats style. Here are the best day trips and weekend escapes from Boston that'll make you fall in love with New England all over again. Salem: Witches, Ghosts & Seaside VibesAbout an hour north of Boston, Salem is basically Halloween Town year-round. It's spooky, historic, and surprisingly charming.Walking Route to Hit the HighlightsGedney House (21 High St) – One of the oldest timber-frame homes in Salem, creaky and full of character.Salem Jail (50 St. Peter St) – Atmospheric and eerie; you'll feel like you've stepped into a gothic novel.Broad Street Cemetery – Quiet, haunting, and beautiful. The Witch House (310 Essex St) – Former home of Judge Jonathan Corwin from the witch trials. Legit spooky.Ropes Mansion (318 Essex St) – Movie fans, this is Allison's house from Hocus Pocus. The gardens are gorgeous.Salem Witch Museum (Washington Sq.) – Dramatic, theatrical, and totally worth it for the immersive history lesson.Optional extra: Max & Dani's House (Ocean Ave) from Hocus Pocus. It's a bit of a trek, but fangirls/fanboys, this is your moment.Afternoon Treat: Schooner Fame CruiseFor a change of pace, hit the water on the Schooner Fame. You can help hoist the sails, steer the ship, and pretend you're a pirate for the afternoon. Way more interactive than your average harbor cruise.Eats in SalemVillage Tavern – Cozy, hearty, and pub-y.Longboards – Chill vibe, seafood-heavy menu.Oneil's – Local classic. Lexington & Concord: Where the Revolution BeganIf you geek out on history (hi, it's me ✋), this one's a must. Just 30 minutes from Boston, these twin towns are where the Revolutionary War kicked off.Drive between the sites because they're spread out, but don't expect Uber to save you here—it's not very ride-share friendly.Highlights:Lexington Battle Green – Where the “shot heard 'round the world” was fired.Minute Man National Historical Park – Scenic walking trails + reenactments.Concord's North Bridge – Stand where the colonists forced the British to retreat.Orchards & Farms – Depending on the season, you can go apple picking or just sip hot cider. It's basically a living history lesson, except with better snacks.Walden Pond: Nature Meets LiteratureWalden Pond is the kind of place that makes you want to throw your phone into the lake and live like Thoreau (minus the whole no-WiFi situation). For history lovers: This is where Henry David Thoreau lived in his tiny cabin and wrote Walden. For nature lovers: It's a gorgeous, swimmable pond surrounded by peaceful hiking trails.Pro tip: Visit in the morning to beat the crowds, especially in the fall when the foliage is next-level. Cape Cod & Martha's Vineyard: Beachy BlissAbout 90 minutes south of Boston, Cape Cod is summer in postcard form: sandy beaches, salty air, and clapboard houses.Cape HighlightsHyannisport – Kennedy family stomping grounds.Sandwich Boardwalk – Walk this at sunset for pure magic. From here, hop a ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Yes, it takes planning—parking, ferry tickets, bus passes—but it's worth every ounce of effort. Once you're there, rent bikes or hop the island buses to explore:Oak Bluffs – Cute gingerbread houses.Edgartown – Upscale shops and restaurants.Beaches – All of them. Pack snacks and beach hop. It's laid-back, stunning, and gives you all the coastal New England vibes. Gloucester & Rockport: Fishermen & Art LoversNorth of Boston, you'll find Gloucester, one of America's oldest fishing ports.Fishermen's Memorial – A powerful tribute with the names of those lost at sea.Harbor Walk – Scenic and lively with boats everywhere.Nearby Rockport is like a tiny storybook village with shops, art galleries, and ocean views for days. Perfect for an afternoon stroll with an ice cream cone in hand. Portsmouth, New Hampshire: A Seaport SurpriseDrive about an hour north and boom—you're in Portsmouth, NH. This little town is buzzing with cool restaurants, historic homes, and waterfront charm.Perfect for:A dinner out with fresh seafood.Wandering cobblestone streets.Starting a mini New England road trip if you're heading toward Maine. Foxborough: Patriots NationIf you're into football, a trip to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough is basically a pilgrimage.Training Camp (summer) is free, but it gets packed.Patriot Place is like an entertainment complex on steroids—restaurants, shops, and a museum.Even if you're not a Pats fan, the energy is infectious. Plymouth: Pilgrims, Lobster Rolls & Shimmer by the SeaWelcome to America's hometown—the landing spot of the Mayflower. And yes, the infamous Plymouth Rock is here (spoiler: it's… underwhelming). How to Spend a Day in PlymouthBreakfast at Café Nicole – Fuel up for exploring.See the Mayflower II – A replica of the original ship.Tavern on the Wharf – Grab a lobster roll for lunch.Shimmer by the Sea cocktail – Sparkly, fun, and Instagram-worthy.Monument to the Forefathers – Bigger than you'd expect.Cupcake Charlie's – Sweet pit stop.Shopping – Fave stores: Soft as a Grape & Fidel's.First Church in Plymouth – Founded in 1606.Marina Walkway – Perfect for catching the sunset.Dinner at 71 West – End with waterfront dining. It's touristy, yes, but in the best way. Bonus: Manchester, NH & Fall LeavesIf you're visiting in the fall, New England's foliage is basically the main event. A quick drive up to Manchester, NH, or even deeper into the White Mountains, will blow your mind with fiery reds, golden yellows, and Instagram gold. Bring a sweater, a thermos of cider, and your camera. Final ThoughtsBoston is the hub, but the real magic happens when you venture just beyond. From spooky Salem to sun-soaked Cape Cod, every trip feels like stepping into a different story. The best part? You don't have to pick just one. With a car, a little caffeine, and a sense of adventure, you can road trip your way through history, beaches, and small-town charm—all within a couple of hours of the city. So, next time you're in Boston, don't stop at the Freedom Trail. Go beyond. The witches, patriots, and fishermen are waiting.

They dive into masking, self-acceptance, and how culture, gender, and sexuality all intersect with ADHD. This episode is packed with honest reflections and practical insights for anyone looking to grow into their authentic self as an ADHD Entrepreneur.

Colossians 2:6-10; Music: "With Grace" by Shimmer, licensed by Soundstripe.
In 2000, Luna Halo was fronted by former Reality Check front man Nathan Barlowe and released their debut CD Shimmer on Christian music label Sparrow Records. Even though Shimmer was praised by critics, Luna Halo left Sparrow Records and the Christian music industry before recording their next album due to creative differences.Barlowe replaced guitarist MacIntosh with his younger brother Cary Barlowe, Aaron Jenkins replaced bassist Brad Minor, and drummer Chris Coleman replaced Jonathan Smith, completing the lineup for the new Luna Halo.Rumors of an imminent major label deal began to surface in 2004, and a deal with DreamWorks,[2] was announced prematurely, but later proved to be untrue, after negotiations broke down. The band released another EP, Wasting Away (originally recorded as a demo for DreamWorks) and opened shows for artists Velvet Revolver, Hoobastank, Collective Soul, Ours, Needtobreathe and Family Force 5.In 2005, Luna Halo were signed to American Recordings and began work on their second album, Luna Halo. Originally scheduled for a Summer 2006 release, the album was plagued with delays. This was due to American Recordings owner Rick Rubin's departure from Warner Bros to Columbia Records. The album was finally released in late 2007.On November 13, 2012, lead singer Nathan Barlowe announced that Luna Halo would be playing their final show on December 8, 2012, at 12th and Porter in Nashville, TN. This show would mark not only the band's final show, but also their twelve-year anniversary celebration.Their song 'I'm Alright' from their 2007 album was also featured inside Flatout: Ultimate Carnage as a part of the soundtrack. After a seven-year hiatus, on February 11, 2022 Luna Halo performed a sold out show at the Mercury lounge in Nashville, Tennessee. They announced during their show that they only had two days to prepare for this concert.Luna Halo signed a multi-album deal with Spirit Music Nashville/Fluid Music Revolution in June 2024 and is currently working on new material to be released in the Fall of 2024.https://www.instagram.com/lunahalomusic/"Still on the Run" - https://www.fbrmusic.com/Host - Trey MitchellIG - treymitchellphotography IG - feeding_the_senses_unsensoredFB - facebook.com/profile.php?id=100074368084848Threads - www.threads.net/@treymitchellphotographySponsorship Information/Guest Suggestions - ftsunashville@gmail.com

It is April, and as most years around this time our friend Todd Standing comes to the Rez with his expeditioners.Todd lives and breathes Sasquatch research. We, on the other hand, just see them as our friendly neighbors who we go out and seek once a year when Todd is here. Todd is loved by all of us and needs no introduction to our readers or audience. This year we also had a visit from our friend Tobe Johnson. Tobe is a producer known for Voices in the Wilderness, A Flash of Beauty: Paranormal Bigfoot (2024) and Spiritual Bigfoot (2023). He is also a researcher of the link between bigfoot and the supernatural. Tobe interviewed various members of our community here at the Olympic Peninsula, including yours truly. He is also the first person to come out and ask me very interesting questions about Sasquatch and about other woo subjects, including aliens and “conspiracy theories”. I look forward to seeing what he does with the recordings. From the perspective of these two amazing researchers, this month has been a very interesting one indeed and we wanted to share some of the experiences our own community members had during these high-caliber men's visit to our corner of the world. The experiences are best listened to on our podcast, DrivingToTheRez.com, where we interviewed our friend and Makah Elder Brian, and two of our own Wisdom Keeper Hour panelists, Dr Kara and Ashley.Larry himself had some breakthrough connections and face to face experiences with Sasquatch. You might think that Larry, being a Makah Elder himself, would be an old hand at connecting with and communicating with Sasquatch, but as we have documented through the years, keeping the connections alive is not made easy by our present society and culture. This short article is to point you in the direction of our podcast where you can hear these men and women's experiences here at the Peninsula yourself.Inside, find descriptions of our experiences including:Tree breaks, Foot stomps, Tracks and trackways, Hoots/calls with answers, Tree structures, nests, Portal Cracks, Shapeshifting, Shimmer/invisibility cloaking, direct physical interaction inside the cloaking field, manipulation of canoe while we are in it, face to face interactions with multiple individuals teen aged and adult, male and female, cloaked and not cloaked, and vocalizations like drops of water.
