Taylor Swift has had to endure a million times what any man has had to endure, especially white men, and in particular the privileged white quarterbacks in the @NFL like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Eli and Peyton Manning, Tony Romo and Troy Aikman. Taylor Swift has been sexually assaulted, cancelled by Kanye West, had to overcome mental health challenges, and navigate the space of being the most popular musical artist in the history or herstory of the industry. She's more popular than Madonna, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Elvis, Mariah, and Beyonce. Maybe not combined but it's close. Tom Brady won 7 rings. Taylor Swift has not only impacted but changed and saved the lives of 100s of millions. Tom has done nothing but be so self-absorbed and wrapped up in his own narcissistic personal life and failed business endeavors. He has not leveraged his platforms as a 7 time Super Bowl Champion, WNBA part-owner or NFL part-owner to do the right thing. Tom could have leveraged his platforms and still could and galvanize his white quarterback troops to give Colin Kaepernick another chance, still. But his silence is deafening. Had he kneeled with Colin, Colin would still be playing today. Had other Major League Baseball players kneeled with Bruce Maxwell, Bruce would still be playing. It is a sad commentary about all of them including Jim Nantz, Jim Harbaugh, and anyone else with platforms like Doug Gottlieb, Colin Cowherd, Dan Patrick or Jim Rome that they will not come together to put the pressure on the owners to give Colin and Bruce a shot. There will never be another Taylor Swift. But if Caitlin Clark can change a league. Tom could have done the same thing. And still could. We're waiting Tom. Aaron. Peyton. Eli, Tony. and Troy. Speaking out about mental health is phenomenal. I'm glad you all did that. But it's not enough. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/support

Black Baseball Mixtape Friends, Welcome to 2023! I'm so glad you found us. This year will be filled with dynamic podcast guests and fun Black baseball banter. Last year, I created a Dream List of guests for 2023, and I hope to deliver as many as possible throughout the year. My first guest in 2023 is Bruce Maxwell, starting catcher for the Cañeros de Los Mochis. Bruce is in his 11th season of pro ball. He has played all over the world (the US, Mexico, Germany, etc.). In 2017, while playing for the Oakland A's, Bruce was the first (and only) MLB player to take a knee during the national anthem for social justice. Maxwell's actions came in response to President Donald Trump's comments that professional football franchise owners should fire players who knelt during the anthem. He remained the only MLB player to protest by kneeling until 2020, when the league allowed for "Black Lives Matter" patches and organized league-wide kneeling for social justice in the aftermath of the nationwide protests of the murder of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis. In this first part of our two-part interview, Cheats (Black Baseball Mixtape) talked to Bruce about making a professional home in Mexico and how he has adjusted personally and professionally since 2017. Maxwell has been open and authentic about his journey, the good and bad. His friends and support system has changed since 2017, but he has found joy in the game, and peace within himself. Bruce Maxwell was right. He took a stand when others did not. He has suffered penalties that most of us don't fully understand. I am honored to have him as my first guest of the Black Baseball Mixtape Podcast in 2023. Please subscribe to the Black Baseball Mixtape everywhere podcasts are available. Florida personal injury attorney Bruce Maxwell tells host Judson Pierce how he got a call from a flight attendant with odd symptoms, then another, then another. Now he’s seen more than 1,300 claims against Lands’ End, which he, Thomas Holder, and other counsel say is negligent in the design, manufacturing, and labeling of uniforms that are defective and dangerous to the wearers. Maxwell says his firm began testing the uniform fabric and found excessive levels of formaldehyde, fluorine, bromine, and other toxic chemicals. While there’s been a lull in calls, likely because of the decrease in flights during the pandemic, Maxwell tells Pierce that new clients are still reaching out, and the judge overseeing the case is moving forward. He and Holder also share how his Delta clients were reluctant to file workplace injury claims against Delta because they are loyal to the airline. Its ironic that during these times, some say, stand for what is right. What is i told you, by kneeling, it is standing up. Is it a hard concept to grasp. Do people just not want to listen. Bruce Maxwell tried it a few years ago in 2017, and not all but some booed him for it. Now fast forward to 2020, on that very same field, players along with Gabe Kapler, manager of the San Francisco Giants, took a knee to stand up for social inequality and police brutality. Again we have these conversations, because this isn't an overnight fix. In this showing, there are sides for and against. Not all players took a knee, but those who didn't did speak out on why and also stating that doesn't mean there aren't for the cause. It did show unity, it showed that players and managers alike have respect for one another. MLB backed its players, with so much backlash all over social media. To show a strong united front is what the country needs right now. This not the first showing, and it definitely will not be the last. Today I tell you, I am proud to be a baseball fan. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/passionforthepastime/support

Bruce Maxwell's life changed because of one moment, one decision. The former A's catcher took a knee to protest racism and police brutality in 2017, a decision that still impacts him today. In a deep and meaningful, hour-long conversation, Maxwell opens up about his life and the overwhelming criticism and threats that led him down a path of depression, resulting in an arrest that made headlines. "My life changed after that moment to be honest with you," he said on the "With Authority" podcast. He says even now, three years later, he still endures threats and hateful comments for his actions. "The threats and the comments that I was receiving, even to this day, about that day of kneeling during the national anthem, it's disturbing... I never knew somebody could possess so much hatred." But he was doing what he believed was right. "My parents always taught me, 'standing up for what's right might not be easy, but it is the right thing to do," he said. Growing up bi-racial in Alabama, Maxwell details the challenges he faced, and what the tipping point was in his decision to become the first MLB player to take a knee. He also offers his take on why he believes Drew Brees' recent comments about silent protests in the NFL show a lack of understanding of the social issues his teammates face every day, teammates who helped capitulate Brees’ Hall of Fame-level career. "To make that statement on national television, that's a problem," he said. As a member of a family with deep military ties, Maxwell is uniquely qualified to explain why silently protesting during the national anthem doesn't dishonor the flag or the troops. And to "lose his career" over it, he says, is "demoralizing." Now a reigning champion in Mexico's baseball league, he tells us how he's found happier times, while introducing us to his adorable puppy.

Aldo NICE and Rog Smuve got an opportunity to discuss some troubling news stories and give some advice on our Halloween edition podcast. We went in on the latest Harvey Weinstein allegations and the #MeToo movement (07:00), should there be a statute of limitations on sexual assault charges (17:00), and the fact that George H.W. 6 von 10 PlayOff Teilnehmer stehen Stand heute fest, in der American League geht es nur noch um den letzten WildCard Platz, die Yankees sich ihren Platz in der Postseason sichern können.
