Welcome to Ambition Habits previously known as Tiffany Mika Podcast. It was time to change this podcast show into something more beneficial for the sporting woman, no matter her age or her standard of play in sport. Welcome to ambition habits. I am Tiffany Mika, the founder of Ambition Habits, and I'm so excited to see you here. Why am I so excited? Well, the reason for that is is ambition habits has been something that I've wanted to develop for a very long time. I've had my own experiences in in sport competing at a very high level. And what I see, especially as a coach, is I see that a lot of women out there actually lack the confidence to participate in a sport that they really enjoy in the way that they want to in the sense of socially or if they're a beginner or they've been playing for a period of time. But they actually lack the confidence to feel that they are good enough in their sport, or they're whether they're good enough to actually try a new sport. The thing is when you're lacking confidence, it can affect you and affect your decisions on what you're going to do moving forward. So what we want make sure at ambition habits is that you have the confidence within to pursue your sport. It doesn't matter how old you are. So you could be 15, you could be twenty, you could be 30, 50, 70, 80, 90 it doesn't matter. It's all about helping you. So it's that person that is wanting to learn a sport. It's for that person that's, competing at a local level. It's for that person that wants to advance. So from beginner to intermediate or from intermediate to advanced or, you know, go and play world championship events, whatever it is, whatever level that is for you. That's what Ambition Habits is there for you. So what we'll be working on are skills and strategies on how to build your confidence. We'll be working on how to over overcome your nerves when you are participating in sports, starting a sport, going and competing in the sport, just showing up and playing socially, how to deal with those nerves, and everything else that's evolved around, building that confidence in you so that you can go and play the sport that you've chosen to play or that you wanna go and play. And you can step into that arena feeling confident within, feeling good within, feeling like you belong there, feeling, in control of the the skills that you've learned, feeling in control of the the mental stuff that goes on. And, so that you're out there accomplishing your big dreams in whatever it is that you wanna accomplish in your sport. It won't only help you in your sport, it will help you in general life as well. But the focus is going to be on helping you accomplish whatever it is that you wanna accomplish in your sport. Doesn't matter what level you are. Doesn't matter if you're just starting out. Doesn't matter if you're quite advanced. There's going to be some great, skills, some great strategies and techniques in how to help you develop those so that you're out there competing the way that you wanna compete, playing the way that you wanna play, getting a lot of enjoyment out of playing that sport, whatever that sport is. And most importantly is just having fun and feeling good within. The biggest thing is is when we go out and play sport, we wanna make sure that we're feeling good within. We're there to enjoy it, and we're feeling like we're actually improving and accomplishing something, whatever that level may be. So remember, it doesn't matter how old you are. You can be twenty, you can be thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety. It doesn't matter. Ambition habits is here for you. Doesn't matter on the level. Doesn't matter if you're just starting out and you're a beginner or you're, you know, a little bit more advanced into intermediate or advanced or, you know, you've got bigger dreams than that, we are here for you to help you. The impact of Focus, my book and watching the transformation of Caroline Ludwell after deciding to take her destiny and life into her own hands and craft the life that she wants. Caroline and I first met just over 12 months ago at a golf tour that I was hosting just north of Sydney at a popular holiday destination Nelson Bay. During the weekend we had a few conversations and I gave her a copy of my book FOCUS (as I do with all my golf tour clients). The impact of what I shared that weekend in conversations and in my book helped Caroline feel that she wasn't the only one who felt that she wasn't good enough because she didn't accomplish her childhood dream. She felt a connection and she wasn't alone. What unfolded over that weekend and a few short days after the golf tour was complete had Caroline feeling that there was hope for her to turn her life around and make better choices to start working on creating the life she wants. Do you believe that having high expectations are good or bad for your sport you play? I believe that if high expectations not handled the correct way, it can actually harm your sport performance and you won't perform in your sport the way you want, plus be incredibly frustrated because of it. And when you get frustrated and worked up about your sport performance, it just goes from bad to worse. It is so important to get your head right and focused into your sport when you play. Because if you are not mentally prepared to compete or play your sport then you won't perform the way you want. If you have been listening to the last few episodes we have been working on how and what to focus on for the rest of the year in your sport for improvement. To develop your belief in you is to understand that it will be a work in progress, just like your sport it is a work in progress. Therefore to move forward we are going to start with 3 simple actions steps; 1. Have a mantra (of positive messages) "I believe in me" "I have greatness in me" "I believe my sports goals are possible" Listen to motivational speeches/podcasts (feed your mind with positive messages). It's great that you have goals you want to aspire to. But in order for that to happen we have to be more specific what that looks like. If we are more specific then you know what to focus on to be accomplish your goals over these next 6 months. In today's episode we are going to set your goals for these next 6 months on what you want to accomplish with your sport. Here below is how we are going to craft your goals over the next 6 months. It is divided up into 3 phases. PHASE 1: GET CLEAR 1. What do I want to do? What are my biggest obstacles? What is my end of year reality? PHASE 2: IDENTIFY OBSTACLES 1. Make a list of all your obstacles. For each obstacle - name that obstacle... then ask these following questions. Why is it an obstacle? What to do about it? PHASE 3: WHAT'S NEXT 1. List all of your "what to do about it" responses from your Phase 2 answers. That's all you need to do here from this episode. Then in the episode following this one. I will show you how to plan it all out for the next 6 months so you can get to work on your sports goals. For example; if you are in fear that you will make a mistake when you perform a skill, this situation where you have fear that you will make a mistake over and over will repeat over and over again. It has been about 4 weeks since I last recorded an episode for you and the reason for this is because I have just hit a milestone of turning 50. Can't believe this has happened so quickly. How do you build confidence when you are not performing the way you want to and it brings you down? It is tough isn't it? And it's all well and good for someone to say "you've got this" or "you can do this" but in the next breath you could say "have I really got this? I am not so sure!" When the confidence is not there, it means there is doubt inside of you, which really means your belief level is not yet at 100%. BELIEF = CONFIDENCE NOT CONFIDENT = NO BELIEF / LACK OF BELIEF The question then becomes how do you raise your belief level when it is lacking? It is the language that you use. We need to change the way in which you speak to yourself. We need to change the language, your self talk. Here are 4 Steps to build your confidence; STEP 1 - Awareness Write down in your journal, notebook or diary any negative thoughts that pops into your head or any doubt around your sport. STEP 2 - Re-Write The Language Those negative thoughts and doubts that you recorded now re-write the language in a positive form. STEP 3 - Positive Phrases Write out a list of positive phrases you can say to yourself. STEP 4 - Read it Out Every Day Read out that new positive language and positive phrases on a daily basis. This is one of the hardest things to deal with in your sport. Dealing with competitive pressure. How do you deal with the pressure when you compete? First you have to identify where the pressure is coming from? * you? * your coach? * your parents? * your opponents? * your peers? Majority of the time it will come from you! And the reason for that is because you want to perform well. You want to compete to the best of your ability and prove to yourself that you can get it. You also want to prove to others that you can do it; * your parents * your coach * your peers * the negative nellies But why in practice and training you perform so much better than you do in competitions and tournaments? The difference is the PRESSURE! The main reason is that it is your mental attitiude towards training and practise. It's just practise or it's just training, that doesn't count! It certainly does count. This is where you must be working on your mental attitude, because how you operate during practise and training won't be any different when you compete. And this is because you have been teaching yourself to perform this way. It's not as important therefore doesn't require the same effort. This is covered in much deeper detail in this episode. You will need your note book for this one. Here below is how to overcome pressure play when you compete. 1. Identify what happens to you mentally when you are under pressure during a particular pressure play in your sport. 2. Identify what happens to you technically when you are under pressure during a particular pressure play in your sport. 3. What is your new mental mantra you say during that particular pressure play in your sport? 4. What new technique or pattern of play can you do to beat that particular pressure play in your sport? 5. Practise it over and over again until it becomes part of you (automatic). What you are doing is that you are anticipating the pressure and devised a method to overcome it.
