Life As It Was Meant to Be Part 10: Living Out the Gospel Louie Marsh, 9-15-2021 The slave driver of the Roman trireme leered down at his galley slaves and bellowed, "I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that you'll be getting double rations tonight!" The murmuring of the surprised slaves as they struggled with their oars was interrupted by the slave driver. "The bad news is that this afternoon the commander's son wants to water-ski." 1) REST in God's Peace. “1Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, 2not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,” (2 Thessalonians 2:1–3, ESV) AS believers we don't have to get all upset over things, yet we so often do! The return of Christ is GOOD news!! If all the silly rumors, etc. upset you and throw you into a tizzy – that's a sign you don't understand and live in God's peace. 2) RECOGNIZE you must confront evil. “16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.” (2 Thessalonians 2:16–17, ESV) As believers we cannot just ignore the evil around and within us! WE must confront it, fight it, and overcome it through the power of God! Saying what is good IS confronting evil – and takes lots of courage! Basic Truths About Evil: Satan is REAL. “9The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders,” (2 Thessalonians 2:9, ESV) “14And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14, ESV) Pictures of Jim Jones, Himmler and Pol Pot. The battlefield is my SOUL. “31“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”” (Luke 22:31–32, ESV) You've got to understand that this is one thing that sets the Bible apart – it teaches us that God is a personal being – and so is the devil!! No impersonal force here! You've also got to understand THIS IS PERSONAL!! Evil is alive, lead by a person – and is after YOU! Jesus will PROTECT me from Satan. “18We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.” (1 John 5:18, ESV) Satan can hassle us, tempt us, put us through all kinds of trouble, but he can't posses us, enter us, or control us! Jesus Name is my WEAPON! “30while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”” (Acts 4:30, ESV) Basic Things to Do: Act COURAGEOUSLY Hang on to my HOPE IN CHRIST Find my encouragement in Receive His STRENGTH DO AND SAY what is good. 3) REJOICE in Christ's Victory! “8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.”…“13But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. 14To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thessalonians 2:8,13–14, ESV) Things to Be Thankful For: In the end – GOD WINS! God loves ME! Christ died to save ME. I share in Christ's GLORY.

Luke 18:9-141. The bold compassion of Jesus, v. 92. The Church is a place of diversity, v.10“It takes all sorts to make a world; or a church. This may be even truer of a church. If grace perfects nature it must expand all our natures into the full richness of the diversity which God intended when He made them, and Heaven will display far more variety than Hell.” -C.S. Lewis3. Misplaced righteousness, v. 11-12False sources of righteousness…a) self“To exalt oneself is to put one’s self in an improper place. This is a danger to the young believers and a trap to the older saints. Only after the cross has done its thorough work in a person’s heart can he refrain from expressing himself. Only then will a person allow others to receive the glory and remain silent himself as a sword in God’s scabbard.” -Watchman Neeb) religious accomplishments-Matthew 6:1-4c) race-Galatians 3:23-29Three problems with racial supremacy...i. it nullifies the work of Christ on the crossii. it creates for you a standard of unforgiveness that will be applied to you-Matthew 6:14-15iii. it violates the context of heaven-Revelation 7:9-104. Gospel humility, v. 13-14To pray you need only know three things...a. know that there is a Godb. know yourselfc. ask God for what you needMental worship…Is there a conversation that you’ve been needing to have but have put it off? How are you helped towards having this conversation by the bold compassion of Jesus? Are you currently withholding forgiveness from someone and if so, on what basis? How has the Cross informed and influenced the way you treat people of other races? When it comes to race relations do you act more like a Christian or like a member of your race?Does your knowledge of yourself humble you, make you prideful or something else?

Daniel’s message is: It shall end. The Ancient One who is judge will call all nations to account and will give dominion to “one like a human being,” the Messiah.9As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne, his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire. 10A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgment, and the books were opened.13As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One and was presented before him. 14To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed.Psalm: Psalm 93Ever since the world began, your throne has been established. (Ps. 93:2)1The Lord is king, robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and | armed with strength. The Lord has made the world so sure that it can- | not be moved. 2Ever since the world began, your throne has | been established; you are from | everlasting. R 3The waters have lifted up, O Lord, the waters have lifted | up their voice; the waters have lifted up their | pounding waves. 4Mightier than the sound of many waters, mightier than the breakers | of the sea, mightier is the Lord who | dwells on high. 5Your testimonies are | very sure, and holiness befits your house, O Lord, forever and for- | evermore. RSecond Reading: Revelation 1:4b-8The book of Revelation begins by celebrating the Almighty God, who spans all of time. Similarly, Jesus is celebrated as the firstborn from the dead who rules over the world’s rulers. He is the one whose return we eagerly await.4bGrace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, 6and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail.So it is to be. Amen. 8“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.Gospel: John 18:33-37In John’s gospel, the story of Jesus and Pilate presents two different ways of exercising power: through force or with love.33Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” 34Jesus answered, “Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me?” 35Pilate replied, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?” 36Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.” 37Pilate asked him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”

Give no place. Eph. 4:27 nor give place to the devil. Paul spoke this to believers - It is possible to give place - a door, an opening - he takes what we give him - it’s also just as possible to ______ give place to the devil. Jesus said…..John 8:12Paul wrote of it…Col. 1:13John wrote of it….1 John 2:8-11Peter wrote of it….1 Peter 2:9Jesus, Paul, John & Peter speak of ______________________________. The real message of ‘give no place’ is simply this: _________________________. Eph. 6:10-20 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. God calls us to _____________________________.Dan. 11:32/Isa. 40:28-31 - ___________________ comes from pressing into Him. Why ‘be strong’? 2. The Devil is _______________________ in his approach toward believers.Eph. 6:11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. What are his schemes? 3. There is a real ________________________.Eph. 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. What’s the Adversaries goal? Eph. 6:10-14To get us to “_______________________” - a suspension and relaxation from an alert state or a state of readiness - when we stand down we get pushed around. 4. God’s Armor is to be put on - ___________________. Eph. 6:13-18 Put on - implies something _____________ do. Rom. 13:14
