We usually start the show off with the latest genre news. It may be time to just start calling our opening segment, “What remake is next?” This week it is all about the Wayans brothers returning to the Scary Movie franchise. Plus, their importance to comedy and the Super Bowl. We also discuss the potential American Psycho remake and who we would like to see in it.In a Violent Way is unlike any slasher that has come out since…well, possibly ever. It uses some of the expected tropes - over the top kills, friends camping in the woods, a Big Bad who cannot be stopped - but it is the rare film in the subgenre that critics seem to love. But what do audiences think? For years we have talked about how we trust the opinions the the audiences over critics. We were once told that we are just guys who watch movies. We have totally embraced that and completely agree. At the same time, we spend each week taking apart movies and, well, critiquing them. Obviously, this puts us in an awkward position. But it also means we are a combination that makes the best authority. So, what did we think of In a Violent Nature?Normally, nostalgia is a good thing. Especially when it gives you the chance to look back on your teenage years. Yeah, there is some embarrassing stuff that will make you shake your head, but coming of age stories are popular for a reason. And besides, the stupid stuff you did when you were fifteen is a lot easier to explain than the dumb shit you do in your forties.Director's Cut is a reminder of younger days. It is the rare instance when it is not a good thing. Juvenile writing, horrible characters, and writing that is too on the nose are just some of the examples of what went wrong. And those may be its strong points. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Morbidly Beautiful is your one stop shop for all your horror needs. For episode 207, I'm joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski behind the scenes. This time around, we're talking more about The Wild Robot (reviewed here) after Myles saw and fell in love with it. I tell Myles about Joker: Folie à Deux (reviewed here) and Nickel Boys (reviewed here), neither of which I cared for. On the other hand, I did enjoy V/H/S/Beyond (reviewed here), which leads us into the start of 31 Days of Halloween. Throw in questions and a game, as well as Steve's picks for the Fantasy Movie Draft, mix it all together, and you have a real good time... As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 208th one to date (here's to many more). Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. More to come each and every single week, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for listening!
