Musicas: - 01. Mind Tricks - Experia (Epidemic) - 02. Dark Music - The Sealed Kingdom (Epidemic) - 03. "The Damned Thing" is written in four parts, each with a comical subtitle. The story begins in Hugh Morgan's cabin, where local men have gathered around the battered corpse of Hugh Morgan to hold an inquest concerning his death. William Harker, a witness to the death, enters and is sworn in by the coroner to relate the circumstances. William reads a prepared statement about a hunting and fishing outing undertaken with Morgan. He and Morgan encountered a series of disturbances that Morgan referred to as "that damned thing". During the last encounter, Morgan fired his gun in fear, then fell to the ground and cried out in mortal agony. Harker saw his companion moving violently and erratically, while shouting and making disturbing cries. He thought Morgan was having convulsions because he didn't appear to be under attack. By the time Harker reached Morgan, Morgan was dead. The coroner states that Morgan's diary contains no evidence in the matter of his death. A juror implies that Harker's testimony is symptomatic of insanity, and Harker leaves the inquest in anger. The jury concludes that Morgan was killed by a mountain lion. The story becomes epistolary in nature, detailing entries from Morgan's diary. The journal covers the events leading up to Morgan's death as he becomes aware of an invisible creature that he is hunting. He infers that it lacks color or has a color that renders it invisible, but, to make sure he is not insane, he plans to invite Harker with him when he hunts "the damned thing". Experience The Damned Thing by Ambrose Bierce; a classic American horror story first published in 1893. This eerie tale unfolds through a coroner's inquest, diary entries, and witness testimony, all circling around a terrifying creature that cannot be seen. Bierce was one of the earliest writers to explore the idea of an invisible monster, long before it became a staple of modern horror. The Damned Thing originally appeared in Town Topics in 1893 and later in Bierce's collection In the Midst of Life. Its documentary style, dry wit, and slow‑building dread make it one of his most memorable supernatural works. Settle in, get comfortable, and enjoy this unsettling classic from one of America's sharpest - and strangest - writers ❤️ https://open.spotify.com/show/1dac5HA4oPg55A06JDXUQITools used: Presonus Studio One M7, Motionleap, Movavi, and Canva Protags:the damned thing, ambrose bierce, ambrose bierce horror, classic horror story, classic horror reading, horror audiobook, creepy audiobook, invisible monster story, 19th century horror, american gothic literature, public domain horror, classic short story reading, quiet horror, cozy horror reading, atmospheric reading, soft spoken reading, bedtime horror story, classic literature audiobook, supernatural short story, eerie story reading, horror narration, vintage horror tale, weird fiction classic, unsettling short story, horror story full reading

Welcome to our holiday special. We have recorded a marathon 4 hour podcast with much holiday spirit (we got drunk), and will be dropping it in parts throughout the holiday season. We started with a quick reflection on the latest news: Bird Scooters has gone under, and Adobe's planned acquisition of Figma has collapsed. Plus, due to listener demand, we explain our not particularly complex recording and editing process. Our original Adobe episode. 262 - Our first story of the season: "Inexpressibly terrified, I struggled to my feet . . . and may heaven in mercy spare me from another sight like that." Tuck in for the (famously missing) author's favorite genre, horror.

Welcome to Campfire Classics, a Literary Comedy Podcast!! So, you read the title. You read the words "Mucus of the Soul". And you decided to come here and read this little blurb about the episode anyway. Or did you? I honestly have no idea. Okay, game time. I will grant a special surprise and guarantee a shout out on next week's episode to everyone who reads this, emails 5050artsproduction@gmail.com, and tells me you read this. A bonus surprise if you also use the secret passcode from the end of this week's episode. How's that for idiotic self promotion? Oh right! The show. It's a creepy little story by Ambrose Bierce called "The Damned Thing." Heather reads well, Ken makes pointless jokes...you know the drill. What would you do with two barrels? **winky face** How would you suppress soul mucus? Are clowns people? "The Damned Thing" was published in 1893. Email us at 5050artsproduction@gmail.com. Remember to tell five friends to check out Campfire Classics. Like, subscribe, leave a review. Now sit back, light a fire (or even a candle), grab a drink, and enjoy.

By the time Marcus Aurelius took over as emperor, he had not had an easy life. He had lost his father at age three. He had lost a beloved tutor. His lifepath was upended by Hadrian's selection. He had 14 children during his 30-year marriage to Faustina. And then of course, in order to ascend to the purple, he had to lose his mentor Hadrian and his beloved stepfather Antoninus.

After a timely professional publication came in the mail last week that had so many articles in it that perfectly dove-tailed into what Chris has been talking about recently, there was no way he couldn't NOT talk about them! This podcast covers: – How Chris evaluates where to put his money with regard to Conservation and/or Sportsmen's Advocacy groups; – The possible return of the "Old Man" buck from last fall/winter; – Acceptable predator management (and by the way, yours isn't); – Captive breeding/rearing efforts for conservation of species; – Why are certain things OK for non-game species that sportsmen can't get a conversation on regarding game species; and – More!
