Originally Recorded in May and June 2025 Hola, fans! That Horror Show Podcast brings you the third and final episode on Coffin Joe, created by Brazilian filmmaker Jose Mojica Marins. Show hosts Timothy Kazda and Chris Koenig finally give their take on the last two films and they are really something. First film on the docket for review is "Hellish Flesh" (1977), which could be easily described as a bizarre horror/thriller that is and is not a Coffin Joe vehicle. And after that, the hosts tackle "Hallucinations of a Deranged Mind" (1978), aka 'Coffin Joe Stock Footage Film Festival', in which new material is stitched with old to make a complete movie with hallucinogenic results and dime-store pop psychology! And yes, Nate from 'Kids Corner' gives his take on the Wes Craven horror classic "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (1984)!   #coffinjoe #robertenglund #Hellishflesh #freddykruger  #THSP  E-mail: thathorrorshowpodcast@gmail.com  Facebook: www.facebook.com/thathorrorshowpodcast Instagram: Tim@thathorrorshowposcast.instagram  Slasher app: Tim@ThatHorrorGuy

Ordinally Recorded on Wednesday March 5th and Sunday April 13th, 2025 Hey there, fans! That Horror Show Podcast brings you the second part of their Coffin Joe retrospective. Lovable show hosts Timothy Kazda and Chris Koenig continue further into the Coffin Joe lore conceived by Brazilian director Jose Mojica Marins, and the two films they review are so wild, so bizzare and so downright absurd they can't wait to tell you about them! First up is "The Bloody Exorcism of Coffin Joe" (1974), which features director Jose Mojica Marins playing himself battling against his cinematic alter ego, WWExorcist-style! After that it's "The Strange Hostel of Naked Pleasures" (1976) as Coffin Joe portrays the ultimate embodiment of evil: a manager who stands behind a desk and welcomes clueless patrons into his nondescript hostel! Hey, Eli Roth it isn't, but so what? And lest we not forget, Nate from 'Kids Corner' jumps in to give his own review for "Halloween 3: Season of the Witch" (1982).

Hello and welcome back to The Dana Gould Hour. Your brief audio respite from the world's worst reality show, reality. Samm Deighan is here. She is a film historian and author and has written such books as The Legacy Of World War 2 in European Art House Cinema and a study of Fritz Lang's child murder romp M. Her new book, written with Andrew Nette is entitled Revolution In 35 MM, Political Violence And Resistance In Cinema, From The Art House To The Grindhouse 1960 to 1990. It covers everything from The Battle Of Algiers to Coffin Joe to Zabriskie Point.  Harry Medved and Bennet Yellin are here. Harry Medved wrote the book the 50 Worst Movies of All Time when he was in high school! He was 15 when he wrote that book. And that was in the late 70's before VHS tapes. He also wrote, with his brother Michael, the Golden Turkey Awards, which, as you know, is what helped put Ed Wood back on the map in the mid-eighties.  He has a series now on PBS called Locationland, where he takes audiences on a tour of famous film locations, this was back when films had locations, as opposed to standing in front of a green screen at a warehouse in Atlanta. I recently had the pleasure of joining Harry on a tour of the locations for a little film you may have heard me talk about, Plan 9 from Outer Space.  Bennet Yellin is an author and screenwriter, he's written, with the Farrelly Brothers, There's Something About Mary, Dumb And Dumber, Dumb And Dumber Two. Bennet and Harry have been friends for eons and they are here to talk bad movies, good movies and Ed Wood movies which are, of course, an alchemic mixture of the two. True Tales From Weirdsville tells the tale of the place both wonderful and strange, Twin Peaks. Like everyone else I was super bummed out by the passing of David Lynch in January. I think it was a combination of things. The election, we were in the middle of these catastrophic fires and then, just when things couldn't get worse, they did. As much as I love David Lynch and his work, and have back to…I guess Blue Velvet, what he stood for meant more to me than any particular film or television show or what have you.  He was uncompromising in his vision, you could like it or not. That wasn't the point. That's a rare thing these days, when studios and networks seem to be operating under the belief that the only audience worth getting is everyone alive, and anything less is a failure. Twin Peaks, it's origins, success, fall from grace and resurrection is a terrific microcosm of how Lynch's refusal to compromise created something far greater than the sum of it's parts, it flew against convention, challenged audiences. In the case of Fire Walk With Me, it really challenged audiences. But in every instance, time has proven Lynch's instincts were right, so we're going to do a two, possibly three part series on Lynch's career through the lens of Twin Peaks. And NOW, it's on to our filthy business. https://DanaGould.com

Originally Recorded on Sunday January 26th, 2025, and Sunday February 2nd, 2025. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Hey there, fans! That Horror Show Podcast embraces the new year with a brand-new episode featuring the return of Brazilian filmmaker Jose Mojica Marins' iconic character Coffin Joe (or 'Ze do Caixao' in his native Portuguese language). Show hosts Timothy Kazda and Chris Koenig reviewed three official Coffin Joe movies back in 2017 (memories!) and thought that was the end of the long-fingernailed, top hat-black wardrobe wearing coffin maker-turned-evil madman. But, as fate would have it, Coffin Joe showed up in a few "unofficial" movies, so it was inevitable the hosts would tackle them for review. So, for Part 1 of this episode: Coffin Joe goes 'Crypt Keeper' in "The Strange World of Coffin Joe" (1968) featuring three tales of bizarre terror, while "The Awakening of the Beast" (1969) is a "shockumentary"-type feature in which Brazilian society is going down the tubes and it all in some drug-induced way involves good ol' Joe! And for a bonus: Nate from 'Kids Corner' gives his take on "Halloween Kills" (2021). So what are you waiting for, fans? Give this episode a little spin!

Samm Deighan joins us today to talk about the cinema of resistance, as profiled in her fantastic new book, Revolution in 35mm: Political Violence and Resistance in Cinema from the Arthouse to the Grindhouse, 1969-1990. In addition, we discuss a double feature plucked from the pages of this fantastic book: Pierrot le Fou (1965), directed by Jean-Luc Godard, and The Awakening of the Beast (1970), directed by José Mojica Marins. Samm is one of the finest film historians working today in the cult and exploitation cinema space (and beyond), and we were super excited to have her on the show. Our discussion takes in the diverse and fascinating world of cinematic political violence but we also take the time to marvel at Coffin Joe's plucky provocation, recognise Godard as one of film's most important innovators and bemoan the ridiculously long runtime of modern superhero movies.

Get a sweet kiss of summer, with this episode recorded for our 2023 Summer School, all about the infamous 80s movie from Troma, SURF NAZIS MUST DIE! "Sometimes, it's all in the name. On this episode we dive deep into the classic Troma title SURF NAZIS MUST DIE. One of the most legendary exploitation films of all time we go left foot first (Because goofy footing cannot do!) into a movie often looked over because of its title, the company that released it, and that fact that it is PURE exploitation. This film is a gem and we hope you enjoy this UNCUT and UNCENSORED Summer School episode. The following episode is totally uncut and, oh I would say, 97% as close to as what it sounded like the moment we recorded. A little bit of editing was done on this episode and I am sure you can tell where, but it mostly is the entire uncut conversation.
