We are back for that most magical time of the year. Spooky season. Autumn. October. Halloween. HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST 2! Every weekday all October we discuss a different horror movie discussion and we will have even more horror to discuss than last year because we're bookending the month with TWO movie review 6-Pack episodes in which we discuss 6 movies within a franchise or genre within a specific time limit for each movie. It's often where our lowest rated movies rear their heads and while that is no exception in today's episode, the good well outweighs the bad because we're discussing zombie fare from the master of the zombie movie, George A. Romero. A beloved horror icon and we have no less respect for the man because he invented a modern horror trope in such a way that no matter what you do if you decide to make your own zombie movie, you're always going to be ripping off George at least a little bit. A classic zombie gorefest? Commentaries on race, consumerism and class? Black lead actors surviving in horror? Funny zombie movies? George did it all and we discuss four decades of Romero zombie horror with the inventive “NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD” from 1968, the iconic “DAWN OF THE DEAD” from 1978, the brutal “DAY OF THE DEAD” from 1985, the zombie revolution of “LAND OF THE DEAD” from 2005, the wobbly “DIARY OF THE DEAD” from 2007 and the baffling “SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD” from 2009. We only got six minutes to discuss each one and you better believe we ignore that limitation well into the episode. We had fun. One thing that George Romero will always give you is a gory good time. It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a four parter anyways. 2009 was a decent year for horror movies, well as long as your don't mind the French extreme, torture porn, the found footage explosion, j horror and a glut of remakes. The highs are really high & the lows are absolute trash. But, what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 2009? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Some awesome mates. Some special guests. Several pints of beer and a 6+ hour running time split over 4 episodes. We wrap up our Living Dead coverage with George A. Romero's last film, SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD, a film about two warring Irish immigrant families duking it out at the world's end. A zombie rides a horse! In our final segment we hand out series superlatives, rank the 8 films we've covered, and then announce our next ONE OFF MOVIE. That's right, we're gonna cover a single non-franchise movie before we cover SCREAM VI. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/killstreakpod/message
At long last, we've arrived at the end of Romero's run of (not) zombie movies. This week our old friend Sarah Welch-Larson joins the pod again to help us give us a fond farewell to the perhaps the most legendary figure in horror movie history. But don't worry–we're not done with zombies yet!Eye of the Duck is created, hosted, and produced, by Dom Nero and Adam Volerich. This episode was edited by Erik Gunnarsson. This episode was researched by Parth Marathe. Our logo was designed by Francesca Volerich, you can purchase her work at francescavolerich.com/shopIf you'd like to advertise with us, or sponsor us, please email: Contact@EyeOfTheDuckPod.com
"You want to put some kind of explanation down here before you leave? Here's one as good as any you're likely to find: We're being punished by the Creator. He visited a curse on us. So man could look at...what Hell was like. Maybe he didn't want to see us blow ourselves up, put a big hole in the sky. Maybe he just wanted to show us he's still boss man. Maybe he figure we getting too big for our britches, tryin to figure his shit out."It's the Gone With The Wind of zombie movies, Okay? It's 1985's Day of the Dead!
Patrik och Fredrik har äntligen nått slutet på Romero-franchisen och avslutar med två filmer som inte riktigt visar kvalité enligt dem båda. Den största skräcken i detta avsnittet kommer mitt i, lyssna så förstår ni! Diary of The Dead (2007) Är det domedagen? Acting legend Julian Richings joins us to discuss his recent roles in the horror-comedy "Vicious Fun" and the viral thriller "Hall." We also dive into the rest of his insane filmography - which includes "Cube," "Supernatural," "Wrong Turn," "Hard Core Logo," "Survival Of The Dead, and "The Witch" just to name a few. We also chat about the power of Canadian independent film and the differences between working with emerging directors, such as Robert Eggers, Cody Calahan, and Francisco Giannini, and established horror icons like George A. Romero, Guillermo Del Torro, and David Cronenberg. A fantastic conversation about the challenges and rewards of acting and film.MORE INFO ABOUT THIS EPISODE:Vicious Fun: imdb.comHall: imdb.comJulian Richings: imdb.comPLEASE LIKE, FOLLOW, SHARE & SUBSCRIBE!BLACK FAWN DISTRIBUTIONFan Driven Canadian Film CompanyWeb: blackfawndistribution.comStore: blackfawndistribution.com/storeFacebook: facebook.com/blackfawndistroInstagram: instagram.com/blackfawndistroTwitter: twitter.com/blackfawndistroTwitch: twitch.tv/blackfawndistroYouTube: youtube.com/blackfawndistro
It was a beloved films series - and a career - that had spanned just over 40 years. With the 2009 release of Survival of the Dead, George A. Romero would culminate a life's work with a genre that he had helped create and evolve over the course of 6 films. Over a decade later, how does the final film in the Living Dead series hold up? Is it a classic of the genre, like the earlier films, or a throwaway installment like the previous one? In this episode we discuss the merits of George Romero's final film, and how it fits into the overall legacy of the Living Dead series.

In typical Joe Blow fashion, we are wrapping up our Summer of the Dead series the week of Christmas! We review George Romero's final installment in his Dead series with special guest Grindhouse Zombie. Merry Christmas and stay tuned for a Christmas special!
Survival of the Dead - "She's beautiful, she's dead." SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD (2009) - The spaghetti western installment from Romero's Dead franchise! We witness a major breakthrough for the emerging zombie population through the lens of an old family feud reminiscent of the Hatfields and McCoys...as they duel through the death!Be sure to follow the George A. Romero Foundation they are doing great work keeping the Maestro's legacy alive! Look out for more interviews from friends of the foundation on our show!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/HorrorMovieSurvivalGuide)

Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, and Alex Miller discuss Survival of the Dead. Irish clans feud over zombie ethics as members of the National Guard step in. George A. Romero's final entry in his zombie series in a spin-off of a planned trilogy focusing on different characters from the Diary of the Dead. The action mostly takes place on Plum Island off the coast of Delaware. Richard Fitzpatrick (Seamus Muldoon) believes zombies can be rehabilitated into society while Kenneth Welsh (Patrick O'Flynn) feels all zombies should be shot. At least Survival of the Dead has a plot and some interesting themes going on, but the returning minor National Guard characters from Diary of the Dead don't make much of an impact. George A Romero's final film is a zombie film about families at war. He touches on themes that have sat through plenty of his work, although the film's low budget prevents the fans getting behind it.
Somehow we survived watching this movie.
The living dead have taken over the earth, and the Irish have taken over Delaware! Survival of the Dead is the final film in George Romero's series created in 1968 with the release of the original "Night of the Living Dead" which gave birth to the entire zombie genre as we know it today. It was followed by two sequels that were just as groundbreaking and memorable. Romero took a break from zombies during the 1990's and returned with a new trilogy in the 2000's. A six film series with many parallels to the Star Wars franchise, both having an excellent first trilogy, and then a second trilogy released years later when the creators best years are clearly behind them. But will George Romero turn back time and reclaim his status as the creator of the zombie genre? Or will it be more like when your Grandfather is encouraged to dance at a wedding, and then embarrasses himself and gets severely injured. There is only one way to find out. Get your zombie apocalypse gear ready, butter the popcorn, cue up the movie, and join us as we try to survive..... Survival of the Dead!

October crawls on with hordes of the undead incoming. We start with the conversation about the granddaddy of modern zombie formula. Featuring Al White, Christina Masterson, and Haruka Abe. Welcome to the We Are GEEKS Presents: Romero's Living Dead retrospective podcast from We Are Tessellate. Every Friday we'll be covering a new installment in the classic horror franchise. Warning: This podcast contains heavy language and spoilers throughout.
Christian and Ian know that the masters can still make terrible movies. We continue our Overkill series in which we will be discussing the movies in George Romero's "Dead" franchise. During each episode we will answer the question- are we still in on this franchise or is it overkill? We discuss Romero's final film shortly after hearing the news of his passing. We do try to discuss the movie, but mostly grapple with Romero's place in American horror cinema and what his legacy is. We discuss some weird choices in this movie regarding Irish people and masturbation, but land on the idea that perhaps Romero's filmography is special because of its flaws rather than in spite of those flaws. We'd love to hear your thoughts, questions, or any requests you have. You can contact us at: ItsOnlyFeedback@gmail.com and on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Letterboxd.
George A. Romero, the father of the zombie film and a fiercely independent filmmaker, passed away last week at the age of 77. On this week's episode of TIFF Un/cut, hear an in-depth conversation with Romero conducted by then-TIFF Midnight Madness Programmer Colin Geddes in 2012. From NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, his low-budget 1968 film which made tons of money at the box office and reframed the whole idea of the zombie in the public imagination, all the way through to his final film as director, 2009's SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD, Romero's inventiveness and societal awareness were unparalleled. In this episode, you'll hear all about Romero's process of making movies, his take on modern zombie stories, and that time he and a very young Martin Scorsese got into a fight over a copy of a classic opera film.
