Black Sunday (1960), Blood and Black Lace (1964), and A Bay of Blood (1971) There are films by certain directors that are truly iconic—classics of the genre we sometimes assume everyone has already seen. But it's easy to forget that, right now, there are fans just beginning their journey into horror. Whether due to age or a newfound curiosity, they're taking their first steps into the genre. For those unfamiliar with him, we'd like to introduce one of horror's true maestros: Mario Bava. And for those already acquainted with his work, maybe it's time for a revisit—to once again be stunned by what he brings to the screen. If it's been a few years, you may find yourself seeing things in a whole new way. That's one of the beautiful things about cinema. The three films we've chosen highlight important parts of Bava's career and show how his work helped shape entire subgenres—from gothic horror to giallo to the slasher film. Whether you're discovering him for the first time or coming back for a fresh look, these films are a perfect place to begin. One quick correction: Edgar Wallace was a British writer, not American. Films mentioned in this episode: Baron Blood (1972), A Bay of Blood (1971), Black Sabbath (1963), Black Sunday (1960), Blood and Black Lace (1964), Caltiki the Immortal Monster (1959), The Church (1989), Creature with the Blue Hand (1967), Curse of the Crying Woman (1963), Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Danger: Diabolik (1968), The Day the Sky Exploded (1958), Death Walks at Midnight (1972), Death Walks in High Heels (1971), Deep Red (1975), The Demon (1982), Demons (1985), Django Kill…If You Live, Shoot! “Dying's easy. It's over in a second. This hurts worse…” The Blind Rage Podcast is keeping it sleazy with the original 1978 cult classic THE TOOLBOX MURDERS! A series of brutal killings are committed at a small Californian apartment complex, all of them carried out by way of implements found in an average toolbox. The killer appears to be targeting young, attractive women in their twenties, but things take a turn when Laurie Ballard (Pamelyn Ferdin), a 15-year-old high school student, is abducted by the masked assailant. The intensely graphic nail gun scene, as well as Stephen King's fandom for the film, has not only helped the low-budget endeavor acquire cult status, but has kept horror fans interested nearly 45 years later.

Join the two of them for a grueling good time! Come on in at the Grindhouse Pizzeria, pull up a chair and grab yourself a slice! "Did it hurt? When you died? Did it hurt?"

A single word that will bring a look of hatred, disgust, or simply end the conversation: remakes. When brought up, many fans will immediately say “they suck” and move on. But do they all suck? Sure, we can all point out an example or two that we think of as abominations, but you can't lump all of them together. Because when you start to think about it, there are plenty of good remakes… and a few that we think are amazing! In this episode, we delve into this perennially controversial subject. We'll cover some of our favorites as well as ones that we feel missed the mark, and even try to figure out what makes a remake successful or... well, not so successful.
The post Högläsning med FromBeyond – Skräckspecial signerat Peter Edén appeared first on FromBeyond.se.

Episode 5 Scream Queen Schlock Party and 1971 in Review. It's time for us to express our love for the original Nightmare Sisters of schlocky horror films from the 80's. We talk about our love for Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, and Michelle Bauer. Dustin talks about the New Ghost busters flick, Ticks, the Toolbox Murders as only a few of his recent viewings. Roxy explains the major events in 1971 and then has some quick reviews on A Clockwork Orange, Let's Scare Jessica to Death, and The Toy Box. Dustin adds his favorites from 1971 like the Spielberg classic Duel and Daughters of Darkness. And this write up only skims the surface of our usual deep dives into schlock film. We simply don't know when to stop talking!
Hello SlashU students and welcome to another week. We hope your Thanksgiving holiday (here in the USA) was a good one. And to help you recover and get back to your regular routines we give you a fresh episode today. We're talking about The Toolbox Murders from 1978. It's a fairly easy story to follow. A masked maniac is killing women around an apartment complex using a variety of tools from his toolbox. The twist to the plot is why he's doing it. And then another twist happens when one of the girls is "rescued" near the end of the movie. It's definitely worth the watch. As always, follow us on Instagram @SlashU_Podcast and check out www.SlashUPodcast.com for all the past episode descriptions, merchandise, extra credit, and news about upcoming episodes. The last week of Hack to School is upon us, and the class is body shop... as in... Student Bodies shop. Boom. We truly save the best punny title for last. This week we ponder, Is Student Bodies the Naked Gun of Horror? Never seen it? Well, as of the time of this recording, it was free on Pluto TV... even if Pluto TV is the most annoying free streaming app since the times of a town crier yelling nonsense with a clangy bell. The film was written and directed by Mickey Rose with contributions from Michael Ritchie as "Allen Smithee." Rose was an early contributor of Woody Allen. A key consideration in this film is its history and its contemporaries. We create a timeline of horror form the 60's to the time of the film's release, so show what the filmmakers had to rely upon, then the films that came out the same year to show its competition. I'll just copy and post some of those titles for the metadata here: 1960- Peeping Tom, Psycho; 1963- Blood Feast; 1971- A Bay of Blood; 1972- The Last House on the Left; 1974- Black Christmas, Texas Chainsaw; 1976- The Town that Dreaded Sundown, Alice, Sweet Alice; 1977- The Hills Have Eyes, Martin; 1978- Halloween, The Toolbox Murders, I Spit on Your Grave; 1979- The Driller Killer, When a Stranger Calls, Microwave Massacre, Tourist Trap; and 1980- New Year's Evil, Christmas Evil, fade to Black, Friday the 13th, Mother's Day, Prom Night, Terror Train, Motel Hell. Roy Norris and Lawrence Bittaker committed some of the most horrific acts in the history of American crime.
Drills, claw hammers, and screwdrivers.. Oh my! The first half of this movie scratched that itch for a nonsensical slasher, but just when the ladies weren’t expecting it, the movie threw them for a loop and made them feel some unexpected feels. For a movie that they didn’t know much about, it really took them for a ride that they enjoyed. So, sit down and buckle up as Whitney and Dani discuss the 1978 film, The Toolbox Murders. We're going way back to 2014 for this week's bonus edition of The Blind Rage Podcast. This is the first randomly-chosen episode of 2 Guys 5 Movies, which forced us to break our pact to limit horror movies for the year. Luckily, it’s a good year for horror movies. The list includes The Toolbox Murders, John Carpenter’s Halloween, George Romero’s Martin and Dawn of the Dead, and Philip Kaufman’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake. If you are a fan of the podcast, there are other two important ways you can help us. First, you can please subscribe, rate, and leave a review on your podcast client. That not only would be useful to us for the feedback, but also help us receive more attention. Second, if you like your Facebook page, 2 Guys 5 Movies, it would be helpful to like or share our posts so others can learn about 2 Guys 5 Movies and decide if it is for them. Finally, if you have your own ideas for the podcast, you can also email us with list suggestions at 2guys5movies@gmail.com, and thank you all for listening and your support.

Movie Meltdown - Episode 501 This week we are coming to you "live" from Atlanta as we are lured into town to cover DragonCon. But as usual we are easily sidetracked and next thing we know - the episode ends up in Piedmont Park. And to add an even stranger twist... what happens when we meet up with a longtime listener of our show? Will one of us turn out to be a weirdo in the park... or will it just end up leading to a lot of geeky movie talk?! Only one way to find out... And as we get sucked into the ether and create a whole new mythology, we also bring up… Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, narrative arc, Peter Hyams, a fiery bus crash, a safe way to process emotions, the ravenous fickle fanbase, you’re soaking in it, and Spock shows up, the feel of 80’s horror, what is cool is like a moment in time, I just want to live in this environment, my shameful most proud moment, Land of the Dead, the seventies mavericks versus the nineties gen-X kids, War of the Worlds, aging directors, raised on these pre-packaged dreams, Mandy, avenue-type shopping communities, George Romero, Snake Plissken riding on the back of Battle Cat, this is the movie that all my film professors wish they made, spaghetti westerns, be John Carpenter, weird alien rants, we were scared and everything was going to kill us, The Toolbox Murders, I’m like working through the darkest period in cinema, Abel Ferrara, Stay Tuned, nostalgic vibe, die a genius now, a choppy crazy editor, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, it's kind of like that movie, Night of the Living Dead, Tobe Hooper, 28 Days Later, Tim Robbins, Messiah of Evil and directors making the worst movies of their career. Spoiler Alert: There are some overall tonal and story arc spoilers for “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood”. So be warned if you haven’t watched yet. “It's kind of surreal ‘cause I have been listening to the show for about 10 years now or so… it got me through many dark times. So I'm like the crazy obsessed fan… that now is on the other side of the looking glass here.”
Stephen and Adam mildly disagree over the merits of low budget trash. Is the Toolbox Murders reprehensible garbage? Is it a stealth art film? Does it have things to say, and if so... What, and why? Find out!
Shanon and Mark sit down to discuss the 1978 crime/mystery/pre-slasher thriller, The Toolbox Murders. Shanon rates one of the scenes in this movie as one of the best of it's kind in horror history. Enjoy!
James and Lee delve into their toolbox, not to fix their creaky chairs, but for some murdering. While also solving the greatest mystery of all.... The Rubix cube.
Would you rather be killed by an item selected from a toolbox or be turned into a grotesque living fungi? Quit crying. We all have to make important, binding choices in life. The Toolbox Murders (1978)Matango (1963)
We’re back and continuing our trip through the Slasher Summer! On this episode, John is joined by Bo Ransdell! They briefly mention the removal of Michael J, reminisce about GraveShift Radio, discuss Terrifier, and John, of course, can’t resist asking Bo about his very own film - Lost After Dark. Then, after the break, our two cinephilic heroes take on the 88 Films’ Slasher Classics Collection release of 1978’s The Toolbox Murders! They give us an in-depth review of the film and it’s presentation from 88 Films, with some side rants on their love of John Carpenter and whether or not this was based on a true story. Sometimes, once just isn't enough. And, in the case of Tobe Hooper, it felt right to honor this quirky and often misunderstood artist with a second helping of praise. On this episode, I talk with John Cribbs and Christopher Funderburg, the co-creators of "The Pink Smoke" film review website (www.thepinksmoke.com) about the legacy of the late Tobe Hooper. He’s a filmmaker who induces strong opinions and debate. We talk about that debate today, and the contributions Hooper made to, not only horror, but also American Film itself. I hope you enjoy the episode. Join the Hellbent for Horror Horde on Patreon! Click here: http://bit.ly/2i3VLoe If you like the show, please consider writing a review on iTunes or Google Play. How to Have a Sustainable Career in the Film Business with Straw WeismanI always talk about "hustle" and that "you have to keep moving forward no matter what" to make it in this business. Today's guest is the most authentic example of those concepts I've ever met. Straw Weisman is a writer, director, producer, post supervisor, movie trailer writer/producer, film consultant, and film market guru. These are just some of jobs Straw has done in his over 40 years in the indie film business.Through his own company, Marquee Productions, Straw has supervised post-production and/or associate produced or produced over 75 films, including “Without Men”, starring Eva Longoria and Christian Slater, "Abel's Field", starring Kevin Sorbo, “Shine On”, starring Jenna Dewan-Tatum, “Order of Redemption” with Busta Rhymes, Armand Assante and Tom Berenger, the multi-festival award-winning biopic “Crazy” featuring“Heroes” Ali Larder, “Magic”, a family film starring Christopher Lloyd as a talking dog, Richard Gere’s “The Flock”, “Sex and Breakfast”, starring Macaulay Culkin, “Say It In Russian”, featuring Faye Dunaway, the spiritually based sleeper hit “What The Bleep Do We Know!?”(which grossed over $16 Million at the box office), Tobe Hooper’s “The Toolbox Murders”, and the horror feature “Hatchet." Marquee Productions has also played host to over 25 independent films, which have used its editing and audio facilities and Straw’s creative consultancy.Straw and I have been working together on projects for close to 10 years. I wanted him to come on the show to discuss his career, how he keeps going, and what skills helped him to have such a long and sustainable career. Straw also shares a very intense story that will illustrate how tough and brutal this business can be.My hope is that this interview not only inspires you but sheds a light on what is really needed to make it in the business. Enjoy my conversation with Straw Weisman.
Join your host Duncan Under The Stairs discussing all things Horror on The Podcast Under the Stairs. Summer has arrived at last Under the Stairs which means our 4th annual Top 10 series of shows has come to take you through those uncomfortably humid days with a hearty dose of horror!! I am not one to be accused of short changing listeners or setting easy goals either which makes this years Top 10 series very special indeed!! Over the next 11 episodes in the series we will count down each year in the decade known as the 70's with the mission statement of creating the definitive Top 10 list of movies in the decade, but with a little TPUTS twist if you will. Noah's Ark rules will mean that each year will be represented in the creation of the list and will force myself and my guest to short list each year in the decade from 10 movies to 2!! That's right...only 2 movies from each year can go through which means that this list can/might & will be unlike any Top 10 list of 70's horror movies created on a podcast!! On this show my guest Cort Psyops and myself will look at 10 movies from 1978 with mini reviews of Halloween, Dawn of the Dead, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Toolbox Murders, Alucarda, Piranha, Martin, The Shout, Patrick, Blue Sunshine. Intro – 0 - 7mins 25secs Top 10 1978 - 8mins 40secs - 1hrs 38mins 35secs Intermission - The Siren - Graveyard - 1hrs 40mins 45secs - 1hrs 45mins 50secs Decision Time - 1hrs 45mins 50secs - 2hrs 6mins 50sec Closing Out the Show- 2hrs 6mins 50sec - End Closing Song - Got Love to Kill - Juliette Lewis & The Licks The 2 movies picked as going forward to the final roundtable representing the year 1978 are Halloween & Dawn of the Dead. Join me for the final year in the decade this Thursday with special guest Andy Blockley to look at 1979 and the following movies: Zombie Flesh Eaters Alien Tourist Trap The Brood When a Stranger Calls Phantasm Driller Killer The Amityville Horror The Visitor Nosferatu the Vampyre Our new A3 Baz v Horror Posters are available to purchase!! We lost another horror master in August 2017 when Tobe Hooper left this mortal coil. Hooper was a complicated artist, and in this episode, I talk about my appreciation of the man who gave us the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist. There were varied opinions of the contributions of Tobe Hooper, but I think he was an inspired, surreal filmmaker whose contributions to horror can never be underestimated. I hope you enjoy the episode. Join the Hellbent for Horror Horde on Patreon! Click here: http://bit.ly/2i3VLoe If you like the show, please consider writing a review on iTunes or Google Play. Who’s idea was this? Because this was super fun. Horror filmmaker can get positively inspired by what they find in a tool box or garden shed. But where to even start? Every Friday the 13th movie, every Sleepaway Camp – basically, every camping movie. Plus, some films really give it away with their title: Driller Killer, Toolbox Murders (both), Saw (all of them), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (all of them). It’s a good beginning. To narrow down the list of best horror scenes using tools, we started by categorizing.
Remakes? Sequels? Are they good? Can they be good? It depends. I prefer a remake to a sequel for a bunch of reasons. But that doesn’t mean all remakes are good movies. It depends on how the movie is remade. Some story updates really work for the time they are made, and others not so much. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is the classic example of a remake that fires on all cylinders, and really updates the story to the era. The Fly is also a very good one. I’m sure you have your own ideas on what remakes, if any, are worth the time and film stock. In this episode I talk about some of the horror remakes that really work for me. I’ll be interested to hear if anyone agrees or disagrees with me on these, because I do tread on some sacred cows. Again, I’m always interested in starting good conversations about horror. In this HorrorDrunks episode we talk about Cat People, Body Snatchers and Toolbox Murders
The Toolbox Murders. With a title fraught with ambiguity like that, what could this one possibly be about? Not surprisingly, this one is about a series of murders, committed using toolbox implements. The Toolbox Murders made its way onto the Video Nasties banned list in the 80s, quite rightly, as it's a lurid and sleazy … Continue reading Really Awful Movies: Ep 87 – The Toolbox Murders →
Welcome Horror Heads and thanks for downloading! We have reached the conclusion of Tobe Hoopers career... for now. In the final installment of our Serial Killer series we discuss the final projects of Tobe's 40 year career. We discuss The Toolbox Murders, Mortuary, his work with the Masters of Horror series, and wrap up with his last movie to date... Djinn.
Daniel Baldwin was on last year for an episode on the late, great Wes Craven. This time he returns to talk about another "master of horror" by the name of Tobe Hooper. To his credit, he's made one masterpiece worth praising a little bit more, but we mainly focus on the rest of his filmography. We touch on everything from EGGSHELLS to TOOLBOX MURDERS, but the bulk of the discussion is on the middle of his career including EATEN ALIVE, LIFEFORCE, INVADERS FROM MARS, and more! There's also a brief discussion about the so-called Horror Renaissance and I also tell everyone that it's a really good time to go out to the movies now that fall has arrived!00:00 - 27:33 - Intro / General Discussion / Wes Craven27:34 - 28:31 - Director Song28:32 - 1:21:43 - Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Eaten Alive, Funhouse, Poltergeist1:21:43 - 1:50:29 - Lifeforce, Invaders From Mars, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 21:50:30 - 02:11:43 - The Rest of Hooper's Filmography02:11:44 - 02:16:48 - Top 3 / OutroStay tuned since this is indeed a busy month.
