i’ve been leaning into relinguishing power over things recently that i once would have preferred to have more control over. not resisting when the universe acts upon me. and although things may not be going quite how i would like them to, i wouldn’t change it. let’s see where else this goes yah?DOWNLOAD/STREAM RECORDING00:00 (intro by omar)00:20 Helvetia “Hanging In A Car” Fantastic Life01:41 Green-House “Perennial Bloom” Six Songs for Invisible Gardens04:25 Al Riggs “real repent pt. 2” ganglian08:19 The Tissues “Salt Shaker” Blue Film10:58 aric “An Afternoon! As we've noted here before, Durham-based songwriter al Riggs keeps very busy. Their new album is called I Got a Big Electric Fan to Keep Me Cool While I Sleep. Though they bounce around genre-wise, this LP is rooted in country rock traditions and it features contributions from cosmic pedal steel guitarist Chuck Johnson, Patrick Haggerty of Lavender Country, and others. Riggs joined us for a discursive chat, exploring their relationship with country music and, of course, Robert Altman's failed cult film Popeye. It’s episode 165 of Adobe & Teardrops! Thanks for sticking with me! Well, everything is coming up Rachel this week. I’ve been on spring break. I joined a fantasy baseball league. I joined a queer softball league. Opening day is in less than an hour as I record this. We might be moving into a 2-bedroom apartment in the same building. Oh yeah -- things are good. Also, an interview with Hey, King! Album of the Week: Hope Dunbar -- Sweetheartland Hope Dunbar’s Sweetheartland. This is the kind of music I’ve been looking for since I started Adobe & Teardrops. Dunbar has an awesome heartland rock sound while staying true to herself, something that, frankly, I haven’t seen many women who go for that sound really succeed at. She’s a great storyteller, which we’ll hear on “What Were You Thinking,” and can really pull out the stops with “Evacuate,” which Patreon subscribers will hear. Local musician & friend-o-the-pod Al Riggs comes on to attempt to split the room with Tim Burton's BATMAN RETURNS (1992). Will Quinton love it? Will Enoch hate it? Some of the choices made in making this movie were, dare I say, batshit? ... Certainly much to love and to hate. So, let's see how it all shakes out, shall we?[BATMAN RETURNS (1992) is available on HBO Max.]Next week: Will Quinton love THE MOLE AGENT (2020)? Will Enoch hate MANK (2020)?[THE MOLE AGENT (2020) is available on Hulu. MANK (2020) is available on Netflix.]Watching along a few weeks or more after release? Listening from outside the U.S.? Per Austin, FBI is the movie prompt this week, and we're doing a lot of digging to uncover the conspiracies (or verdicts) about a couple of movies: Quinton thinks Enoch will love the brand spankin' new film depicting the events leading up to the death of Fred Hampton, JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH (2021). Enoch thinks Quinton will hate the Mark Wahlberg political thriller vehicle, SHOOTER (2007).JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH (2021) discussion starts at 2:37. SHOOTER (2007) discussion starts at 44:04.[If you're reading this on the day of release, that means yesterday was the last day to watch JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH (2021) for the limited viewing that HBO Max is doing. Oh well, it'll be on VOD soon. SHOOTER (2007) must be rented.]Next week: Al Riggs comes on to attempt to split the room. Will Quinton love BATMAN RETURNS (1992)? Rob and Callum are finally going LEGIT as a new music podcast, exclusive to Spotify but with that same great taste of badinage and deep music discovery. For now and forever - Two Best Friends Playing Their Favourite New Songs. As ITHB goes exclusive to Spotify this will be the last podcast available on our original feed and available via iTunes and traditional podcast providers. We are incredibly excited to have our new music podcast available in a legitimate format that will benefit the way we operate as an independent podcast and allows artists to generate plays and royalties via Spotify. Deep cut alert! We have singer-songwriter Al Riggs on the show this week, and they went for a tough one --- The Great Debate, Randy's longest song, and one of his most complicated.Join me and Al as we discuss Tulsa barbecue vs. Carolina barbecue, Durham gentrification, and other, much less-important issues (e.g., God). And like so many of Randy's fans, Al jumps from song to song to song. Thanks for coming Al - and congrats on the wedding.Y'all can check out their new album, Bile and Bone, out this very week! Durham singer-songwriter Al Riggs joins us this week and takes us on unexpected tangents about Jimmy Buffett and the best worst vacation spot—Myrtle Beach. We answer the tough questions like “Who is Joe Diffie?” and “Have you ever been to Cook Out?” And somehow Metallica and KISS get a mention. We’re not sure what kind of podcast we are anymore. Singer, songwriter, master of snark, connoisseur of biscuits; Al Riggs is a renaissance kinda guy. His album, Hell House, was in the Indy Week's Top 20 of 2017. In this interview, we talk a lot about Al's art, privilege, biscuits, and Al's forthcoming February residence at the Cave in Chapel Hill, NC. This podcast contains 3 of Al's songs, "Privately Remembered", "Christmas Parade" and "Let's Have A Room", which features Skylar Gudasz on guest vocals. Support local artists and check out Al's music at alriggs.bandcamp.com/album/hell-house
