The sermon centers on the transformative power of divine faithfulness and corporate unity in the face of life-threatening adversity, drawing from the speaker's personal experience of a near-fatal heart surgery and the profound spiritual support received from church leadership and family. Through vivid testimony, the message highlights how God's presence is revealed not only in miraculous recovery but also in the sacrificial love and unwavering prayer of the body of Christ. The passage emphasizes Psalm 133 and 1 Corinthians 13 to underscore that genuine Christian unity—rooted in love, humility, and shared purpose—acts as a divine counterforce to the rising tide of lawlessness and moral decay in the world. The preacher calls the congregation to embody this unity as a prophetic witness, rejecting division and embracing a Spirit-led oneness that invites God's blessing and opens doors for evangelistic breakthrough. Ultimately, the message is both a heartfelt thanksgiving and a passionate exhortation to live as a unified, loving, and mission-driven community, reflecting the heart of Christ in a fractured age.

The authors break down the billions generated by private immigration detention companies. An industry, they show, that is based on a false narrative.Who profits from immigrant detention, and how is the money made? Geographers Nancy Hiemstra and Deirdre Conlon have investigated these questions for 10 years, producing one of the most thorough examinations of the industry. In today's podcast, we discuss their findings in the new book Immigration Detention Inc: The Big Business of Locking Up Migrants. This book comes at a crucial time as the Trump administration attempts to carry out a mass deportation plan that will be financed by an estimated $45 billion budget, via the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.We discuss all of this: the billions made not only by major prison companies like Geo Group and CoreCivic but also by subcontracted services such as food, medical care, and commissary. The authors highlight that substandard food and health services are part of the business model. We discuss the financial dependencies that local governments have developed through their revenue-sharing agreements with ICE. Additionally, we examine the rapid growth of the detention industry—from 7,000 people in the early 1990s to 60,000 today—and how this growth has accelerated in the last eight months under Trump. Finally, the authors suggest solutions. “Chip away that detention is effective or necessary … this is really a false narrative,” Hiemstra says, and “peel away what makes detention profitable, and peel away the ability to make money off it.”Hiemstra is also the author of Detain and Deport: The Chaotic U.S. Enforcement Regime. Conlon and Hiemstra also coedited the book Intimate Economies of Immigration Detention.

Episode 173:For this guest episode it is a very welcome return for Eleanor Conlon, who you will remember discussed Titus Andronicus with me in Episode 22 of this season. Having picked over the brutal actions of that play with Eleanor I was pleased to hear that she was interested in a return visit and to discuss the very different piece that is Love's Labour's Lost. As you will her Eleanor has a great love of this play and brings all the enthusiasm about it to our conversation that you as might expect. In this unforgettable and Spirit-charged message, Pastor Carter Conlon delivers a resounding call to those who feel disqualified, weary, or unseen: Don't limit what God can do through your life. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 1, he reminds us that “God has chosen the foolish things… the weak things… the things that are not… to bring to nothing the things that are.” If you've ever felt like you have nothing left to offer, this word will stir your soul. With deep humility and holy fire, Pastor Carter testifies to the power of God's mercy in his own life—recounting moments of fear, panic attacks, and brokenness, and how God met him in the midst of it all with a voice that said, “Don't limit Me.” He speaks of barren seasons like Hannah's, where years of weeping and disappointment give birth to world-changing revival—when one life, surrendered fully to God, becomes a voice that guides nations. “From a wordless prayer came a voice that guided the nation for 40 years,” he declares, as he pleads with us to offer our lives back to God—not for personal comfort, but for Kingdom purpose. “If You give me life, Lord, I'll bring it back to You.” Standout themes: God chooses the overlooked, the barren, the weak—those between “foolish and nothing.” The voice of God returns when we stop praying for ourselves and start asking for His glory. Your unanswered prayers, your tears, your silence—none of it is wasted. If your heart is burning to be used by God but you feel unqualified, this message will lift your head, awaken your calling, and remind you: God has heard your cry—and He's not finished with you yet. —
In this deeply convicting message from Fire in Our Bones, Pastor Carter Conlon calls the Church to return to the power, unity, and supernatural testimony that marked its beginning. With humility and urgency, he reminds us, “We're not going out with a whimper—we're going out with the presence of God, the power of God, as a testimony in this generation that must be reckoned with.” Drawing from 1 Corinthians 11, Pastor Carter speaks to a divided and distracted Church, urging us to become a people who forgive, unify, and proclaim Christ with integrity. Through personal stories of betrayal and restoration, he paints a picture of what true communion looks like—not just in sharing bread and wine, but in living lives of surrendered love and unity. “On the night He was betrayed, He took bread.” That one line becomes the heartbeat of the message. Jesus didn't withhold Himself in pain—He gave Himself all the more. Pastor Carter challenges us to do the same: “You may wound me, but I will not wound you. You may speak ill of me, but I will not speak ill of you. You are my brother. You are my sister in Christ.” This is a word for a fractured generation. A call to forgive, to reconcile, and to stand side by side with every blood-bought believer—regardless of denomination, background, or past hurt. “Division is a peacetime extravagance. We are not at peace anymore—we're fighting for a generation, for a culture, for our children.” If you're ready to let go of offense and step into a supernatural testimony, this message is for you.
