Send us Fan MailBile might be the most overlooked substance in everyday health, yet it sits at the crossroads of digestion, detoxification, and metabolic control. We take a fresh look at bile quality and bile acids, starting with what the liver makes from cholesterol, what the gallbladder stores, and what gets released when we eat, especially after higher fat meals. From there, the story gets far more interesting: bile acids don't just help you absorb fat, they also communicate with receptors in the gut and throughout the body in ways that can affect appetite, energy expenditure, insulin sensitivity, lipid patterns, and inflammation. We also unpack enterohepatic circulation, the recycling loop where roughly 95% of bile acids can be reabsorbed and sent back to the liver. That matters for anyone thinking about detoxification, because bile is a major exit route for fat-soluble toxins, and without the right binders those compounds can circle back. We talk through the practical role of soluble fibre, including beta-glucan and pectin, and why the source matters when you're balancing bile binding with blood sugar control. The gut microbiome is the other half of the equation. Your bacteria convert primary bile acids into secondary bile acids, and that conversion can shift bile toward more inflammatory or more protective effects. We connect modern dysbiosis drivers like low fibre intake and antibiotic exposures with downstream bile changes, then get specific about foods that support thinner bile (extra virgin olive oil, flax, black seed oil, oily fish, avocado, nuts) and foods that often do the opposite (refined carbs and fried oils heated to high temperatures). If you've ever wondered why fried meals so often precede gallbladder pain, we explain the mechanism in plain language.Subscribe for more science-based self-care, share this with someone who struggles with gut issues or gallbladder symptoms, and if it helped, leave a quick review so more people can find the show. For slides and open source references: www.thehealthedgepodcast.com
What if healing is less about doing more… and more about restoring movement, communication, and safety inside the body? In Part Two of The Terrain First Series, Debbie Potts dives deep into the physiology of FLOW — not just physical movement, but the movement of oxygen, lymph, bile, blood, nutrients, waste, nerve signals, and cellular communication. This episode connects together: • The F.L.O.W. Foundation™ • Nervous system regulation & vagal tone • Lymphatic flow & drainage pathways • Bile flow & detoxification • Oxygen delivery & mitochondrial health • The Cell Danger Response theory • Why stagnant physiology creates stagnant health • Why "drainage before detox" matters • How the body shifts from survival mode into repair mode Debbie explains how symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, inflammation, hormone imbalance, digestive dysfunction, and poor recovery may be signs of impaired communication and survival physiology — not simply a lack of willpower. You'll learn why: • Safety before fat loss matters • Capacity before intensity matters • Energy before effort matters • The body must feel safe enough to heal This episode is a deep-dive "rabbit hole" conversation into the connections between the nervous system, mitochondria, microbiome, immune system, and metabolic health — and how restoring FLOW may help create the conditions for resilience, recovery, and longevity. Topics Discussed: The Cell Danger Response Terrain First Strategy Vagus Nerve & Safety Signaling Lymphatic Congestion Bile Flow & Digestion Oxygen Utilization & Mitochondria Drainage Before Detox Metabolic Flexibility Chronic Stress & Survival Physiology Functional Health Foundations for Midlife Performance & Longevity Learn more about coaching, functional lab testing, and PNOĒ Metabolic Testing: DebbiePotts.net Subscribe to The Coach Debbie Potts Show and share this episode with a friend who needs to hear that healing starts with creating safety, resilience, and flow. #TerrainFirst #FLOWFoundation #FutureYouBlueprint #VagusNerve #Mitochondria #FunctionalMedicine #MetabolicHealth #CellDangerResponse #LymphaticHealth #HealthyAging #Longevity #GutHealth #Hormones #MidlifeHealth #Biohacking #CoachDebbiePotts

There are five tastes that we have as humans and one helps protect us from poisonous and toxic substances. The sensitivity to bitter taste is highly individual and there are thirty different genes responsible for sensing bitter flavour. This may account for the taste preferences and dislikes for some people with a discerning palate. Many 'pickier eaters' may be 'supertasters' of bitter flavours.Including bitter foods can be a very important strategy to help with bile health, liver support, balancing cholesterol levels and regulation of appetite, so, they are worthwhile to start to try to include more in the week.Sandra and Rob discuss bitter foods for your bile and how these help with gallbladder health and can help with preventing chronic diseases, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes and inflammatory conditions.Episodes mentioned, include:Ep. 54. Microplastics have been found in every human bile sample tested, showing that your body is likely actively storing them in a key digestive fluid Higher levels of microplastics are linked to gallstones, meaning everyday plastic exposure connects directly to a condition that causes pain, inflammation, and digestive disruption These particles are large enough to interact with your cells, where they interfere with energy production and slow down your body's ability to repair and function Repeated exposure drives your cells into premature aging, creating a cycle of inflammation and tissue damage that builds over time without obvious early symptoms Simple daily changes like avoiding plastic food contact, filtering your water, and improving indoor air quality reduce how much plastic enters your body and lowers what accumulates in your bile

Zdravo!
What causes gallstones, and can you get rid of gallstones without surgery? Uncover the real cause of gallstones and gallbladder problems so you can address the issue at the root. 0:00 Introduction: What causes gallstones?1:02 Gallbladder function2:41 Gallstone causes 3:37 Bile salts deficiency4:25 The real cause of gallstones 5:31 How to dissolve gallstones and bile sludge 7:21 Estrogen and gallstones8:39 Nutrients to support gallbladder health10:11 Hypothyroidism and gallstones 10:26 Gallbladder pain relief Download Dr. Berg's Free Daily Health Routine: https://drbrg.co/45qtO07Every year, 700,000 people have their gallbladder removed. Many people still deal with the same symptoms or worse after surgery. The gallbladder stores and concentrates bile, releasing it when needed. Bile is essential for breaking down fats and absorbing fat-soluble vitamins.Gallstones form when there's too much cholesterol and not enough bile salts. Bile sludge typically develops first, eventually leading to gallstones. The real cause of gallstones is not producing enough bile to handle cholesterol. When the gallbladder is removed, you lose the ability to store and concentrate bile. Some people even experience too much bile flow afterward, which can lead to diarrhea.Dietary fat does not cause gallstones! Low-fat diets are the single greatest triggers of gallstones. Fat actually stimulates bile production. The real problem is sugar and hidden sugars. High-carb diets increase cholesterol while reducing bile production, raising the risk of gallstones. This is why prediabetics and diabetics are more likely to develop gallstones.Bile salts can help thin bile sludge and may even support the breakdown of gallstones. TUDCA is especially effective for thinning bile in the ducts, particularly in cases linked to right shoulder pain. Taking bile salts right after eating can also support fat digestion and bile flow.Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 60, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. The wellness tool that sounds wild — until you try it. If you've ever been curious about coffee enemas but didn't know where to start, this episode is your sign. Kira, Lacey, and Jensen share their personal journeys, break down the science behind liver detox and bile flow, walk you through how to do one safely, and explore the unexpected spiritual side that nobody else is talking about. Key Takeaways Coffee enemas support far more than digestion — the compounds in coffee travel directly to the liver via the portal vein, stimulating bile flow, boosting glutathione, and supporting full-body detox. Always replenish your minerals after — coffee enemas are mineral-intensive, and skipping this step is the number one reason people feel drained or get headaches afterward. They can double as a spiritual practice — when treated as a ritual with intention and stillness, many people experience emotional releases they didn't expect. Chapters 00:00 – Introduction: Why coffee enemas? Personal stories from Kira, Lacey & Jensen 09:50 – What is a coffee enema? History from the 1800s, WWI, and Gerson Therapy 13:12 – The liver & bile connection: how coffee compounds stimulate detox pathways 15:46 – Bile, fat digestion, and fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E & K) 17:01 – Glutathione, Phase 2 liver detox, and why this matters for skin and hormones 19:35 – Full benefits list: parasites, candida, heavy metals, hormones, mental clarity, pelvic floor health 25:21 – How to do a coffee enema: coffee grade, kit types, temperature, and setup 30:24 – Tips for holding, breathing through waves, and releasing 34:29 – Post-enema support: binders, mineral replenishment, adrenal cocktails 36:38 – Coffee enemas as a supplement, not a foundation — know when you're ready 38:02 – The spiritual ritual: intention setting, journaling, playlists, red light therapy 42:03 – Important cautions: pregnancy, breastfeeding, and a reminder that they're not doctors Resources

The Ozempic weight loss drug promises rapid weight loss, but at what cost? In this video, find out why I would never take Ozempic, the Ozempic dangers they never tell you about, and the semaglutide side effects that will make you think twice about taking Ozempic. Download Dr. Berg's Free Daily Health Routine: https://drbrg.co/45qtO070:00 Introduction: Ozempic explained0:39 Ozempic muscle loss2:15 Natural GLP-1 system2:39 GLP-1 drug side effects4:30 How to avoid Ozempic dangers 10:27 Ozempic truth and the problem with modern medicine11:35 What to do instead of OzempicWhen you lose 50 pounds on Ozempic, you haven't only lost fat; you've also lost muscle. Research has shown that most people gain two-thirds of their weight back within a year of quitting Ozempic. This new weight gain is nearly all fat!Ozempic hijacks a system that already occurs naturally in your body. There are specialized cells in the digestive system called L-cells that increase GLP-1 when stimulated. GLP-1 tells the brain it's no longer hungry, releases insulin, and slows digestion. For many people, the natural GLP-1 system is broken. To activate this system without the use of Ozempic, you'll need to naturally trigger the L-cells and activate GLP-1. This won't work as powerfully as Ozempic, but it can create a significant effect. To do this, consume the following:• Short-chain fatty acids • Apple cider vinegar• Fermented foods • Fiber with each meal• Omega-3 fats • Olive oil• Avocado oil • Amino acids • Bile salts (TUDCA)There are specific types of fiber that help support this process, including inulin found in garlic and onions, leeks, asparagus, artichokes, flax seeds, chia seeds, and avocados. Try replacing salad with sauerkraut to activate GLP-1. Modern medicine does not address root causes, but rather addresses symptoms that occur later in the chain of events. This holds true for Ozempic. Instead of taking Ozempic, try the following:1. Protein and fiber 2. Eliminate starches and sugar from your diet3. Walk after meals4. Consume 1-2 meals per day, no snacking5. Weight trainingDr. Eric Berg DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 60, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. If you're over 40 and doing "everything right" — eating clean, lifting weights, prioritizing sleep — but your metabolism feels slower, hunger feels stronger, and fat loss feels harder… This episode explains why. In this deep-dive rabbit hole, Coach Debbie Potts uncovers the powerful (and often overlooked) connection between bile flow, mitochondrial efficiency, GLP-1 signaling, hormones, and midlife metabolism. Bile acids are not just digestive fluids. They are metabolic signaling molecules that regulate: • GLP-1 and PYY (satiety hormones) • Insulin sensitivity • Fat oxidation • Thyroid receptor expression • Estrogen clearance (the estrobolome) • Microbiome balance • Inflammatory tone • Toxin elimination You'll learn how midlife hormonal shifts — including declining estrogen and testosterone — affect mitochondrial ATP production, bile synthesis, and receptor signaling. When bile signaling weakens, GLP-1 drops, hunger rises, insulin resistance increases, fat oxidation declines, inflammation builds, and metabolism adapts downward. This isn't a willpower problem. It's a signaling problem. High performers often feel this shift first because chronic stress suppresses digestion, weakens vagal tone, reduces stomach acid, impairs gallbladder contraction, and disrupts bile release. In this episode, Debbie connects the dots and explains the midlife cascade: Hormone shift → Mitochondrial decline → Bile signaling weakens → GLP-1 drops → Insulin resistance rises → Fat oxidation slows → Inflammation increases → Thyroid sensitivity declines → Metabolic rate adapts downward. You'll also learn why GLP-1 medications are exploding in popularity — and why restoring upstream physiology may be the more sustainable path. Instead of pushing harder, we sequence smarter. When flow restores, metabolism follows.

In this episode, Dr. Jockers sits down with Jeff Hoyt to break down how zeolite works as a powerful binder for heavy metals, glyphosate, and internal toxins. You'll learn how toxic load impacts brain function, mitochondria, and inflammation. They also explore why detox today requires more than just clean food and water. You'll discover how zeolite's unique cage-like structure and mineral swap mechanism help bind toxins without stripping essential nutrients. Jeff explains the difference between powders, liquids, nanos, and why sourcing and particle size matter. There's also a deep dive into how ammonia and other metabolic wastes silently affect cognitive health. You'll also learn about the "zeolite dosing paradox" and why higher doses may reduce detox stress more effectively than microdosing. They discuss practical dosing strategies, timing with meals, and how to minimize reactions. Plus, you'll gain insight into why detox is a long-term process, not a quick fix. Send a textRole of bile acids in cholesterol regulation, digestion & metabolic diseases like diabetes.TOPICS DISCUSSED:Bile acids basics: They enable cholesterol excretion, with about half of bodily cholesterol eliminated this way, and also aid digestion by emulsifying fats to increase enzyme access.Bile production & pathway: Synthesized in liver hepatocytes, bile flows via ducts to the gallbladder for storage or directly to the small intestine; post-meal, cholecystokinin triggers gallbladder contraction for fat emulsification.Regulation of bile acids: Self-regulated to prevent cytotoxicity, as excess can damage cell membranes; insulin and bile acids themselves influence synthesis and transport, with defects in insulin-resistant states.Bile acids in metabolic diseases: Increased synthesis, especially 12-hydroxylated types, occurs in type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance, potentially as an adaptation for better nutrient absorption during perceived scarcity.Gallbladder removal & gallstones: Common due to cholesterol supersaturation forming stones; removal eliminates concentration but preserves bile flow, reducing tolerance for high-fat meals.Bariatric surgery impacts: Procedures like gastric bypass increase circulating bile acids without major synthesis changes, while more extreme ones boost synthesis due to impaired intestinal sensing.Cholesterol homeostasis: Cells tightly regulate membrane cholesterol for fluidity and signaling; most bodily cholesterol is synthesized internally, with LDL receptors key to blood levels.Ongoing research: Haeusler's lab explores manganese's role in metabolism, bile acids in liver inflammation, and insulin's effects on lipoproteins.ABOUT THE GUEST: Rebecca Haeusler, PhD is an associate professor at Columbia University in the departments of medicine and pathology and cell biology, affiliated with the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center and the Digestive and Liver Diseases Research Center.RELATED EPISODE:M&M 269 | Soybean Oil: Obesity, Fatty Liver Disease, Gut Health, IBS & Colitis | Frances SladekSupport the showHealth Products by M&M Partners: SporesMD: Premium mushrooms products (gourmet mushrooms, nootropics, research). This Daily Habit Flushes Dangerous Fat in Days In this episode, Ben breaks down how your morning routine could be causing you to recycle inflammatory fat instead of eliminating it. Key Highlights: Your liver packages inflammatory fats and toxins into bile every morning. If bile flow is sluggish, those toxins get reabsorbed through a process called enterohepatic circulation. Industrial seed oils and excess omega-6 fats can stay in your fat tissue for up to 680 days. Bile is your fat exit highway. Clear flow equals elimination. Sluggish flow equals recirculation. The 3 Morning Mistakes: Not hydrating first thing, which thickens bile Adding sugar and inflammatory creamers to coffee Drinking moldy, low-quality coffee that stresses the liver The Solution: Clean coffee, when high quality and mold-free, has been shown to: Stimulate gallbladder contraction Increase bile release Improve bowel motility Lower liver enzymes Reduce fatty liver risk Simple Morning Protocol: Hydrate before caffeine Drink clean coffee (black or with healthy fats, no sugar) Allow natural elimination Support bile flow with bitter foods like lemon, arugula, and ginger Ben also shares a free 7-day fat-burning guide to help reset metabolism and reduce visceral fat. Bottom line:Your morning coffee can either trap inflammatory fat or help flush it. Support your liver, stimulate bile flow, and stop recycling what your body is trying to eliminate. Organ meats. Retinol. Detox protocols. Sacred cows in the alternative health world.Dr. Garrett Smith, aka the Nutrition Detective, joins us to unpack the growing debate around vitamin A toxicity, bile metabolism, and why some of the most celebrated “superfoods” may not work the same for everyone. At the center of the conversation is his Toxic Bile Theory — the idea that bile is not just a digestive fluid, but one of the body's primary waste routes. When overloaded, he argues, it can shift from protective to inflammatory and drive chronic symptoms many people can't seem to resolve. We explore where detox culture goes wrong, why “healing crises” may not be what they seem, and why stopping ongoing exposures may matter more than adding another supplement. In this episode, we discuss:The Vitamin A debate: deficiency vs. toxicityWhy serum retinol levels often rise with ageToxic Bile Theory and bile as a terrain issueOrgan meats and why some people feel worse on themDetoxification vs. agitationRaw milk vs. conventional milk — what actually mattersCopper toxicity concerns and mineral balanceWhy MSG may be good for you (seriously!)This episode will challenge assumptions, especially for those in ancestral or nose-to-tail nutrition circles. THE BETTER BELLY PODCAST - Gut Health Transformation Strategies for a Better Belly, Brain, and Body
Have you been told you have low estrogen — and the solution was immediately birth control or hormone replacement — but no one could explain why your estrogen is low in the first place? Or maybe you haven't even tested yet, but you're dealing with classic low estrogen symptoms like dry skin, low libido, thinning hair, weight gain, anxiety, or brain fog… and you're wondering if low estrogen could be the missing piece. Or maybe you have tried supplements, hormones, or lifestyle changes to raise estrogen — and nothing sticks. You feel better for a minute… then crash again. And you're left asking: Why won't my hormones actually rebalance? If you said “yes” to any of those, this episode is for you. Today we're continuing the Real Root Cause Series, where I take conditions that are commonly treated like the root cause — and show you what's actually driving them underneath. This matters because confusing a symptom for a root cause is the fastest way to stay stuck… even when you're “doing all the right things.” Today's topic is low estrogen. In this episode, I'm breaking down:Why low estrogen really happensCommon low estrogen signs and side effects Why artificially boosting estrogen sets you up for potentially worse problems long-termThe five real root causes that lead to low estrogenAnd the exact tests to find which root causes you are uniquely dealing with And one more thing — for this entire Real Root Cause Series, I've created visuals. If you're a visual learner, or you want to see the full big-picture flow of what's draining your hormones, head to betterbellytherapies.com/root to download the graphics that go with this episode. Because when you stop trying to raise estrogen by force and start restoring the vitality your body needs to make hormones again — that's when you get full-body transformation. Broadcast from KSQD, Santa Cruz on 3-05-2026: >ul> Dr. Dawn presents a whimsical "theme park tour" of the upper gastrointestinal tract, from saliva production triggered by sight and smell of food, through the esophageal sphincter's iris-like opening, into the stomach's pH-1 acid bath where parietal cells produce 3,000 mg of hydrochloric acid per meal. She explains protective mechanisms including the bicarbonate layer beneath stomach mucus, H. pylori's role in ulcers, and how H2 blockers and proton pump inhibitors work—cautioning about long-term PPI effects on B12 and calcium absorption. The tour continues through the pylorus into the duodenum where pancreatic enzymes and bile converge, then along the 23-foot small intestine with its tennis-court surface area of villi absorbing nutrients, iron in the duodenum, most nutrients in the jejunum, and B12 requiring intrinsic factor in the ileum. Dr. Dawn explains why pancreatic cancer—projected to become the second leading cause of cancer death by 2030—is so deadly, using a medieval castle metaphor. The tumor microenvironment acts as an impenetrable moat of desmoplastic stroma made of fibroblasts, collagen, and hyaluronic acid that blocks drugs and immune cells. Over 90% of cases have K-RAS mutations acting as growth accelerators that also thicken this protective barrier and increase CD47 "don't eat me" signals. She discusses emerging treatments including K-RAS inhibitors, PARP inhibitors for BRCA mutations, and combination immunotherapies showing 67% response rates, while noting that CAR T-cell therapy and checkpoint inhibitors alone fail because they cannot penetrate the stroma. Dr. Dawn summarizes Duke researcher Herman Ponzer's work using doubly-labeled water to measure total energy expenditure, revealing that humans burn 20-60% more calories than other great apes when adjusted for body mass. His surprising finding: Hadza hunter-gatherers walking 8-14 kilometers daily burn the same calories as sedentary Americans—the body compensates by reducing energy spent on inflammation and stress responses. This "constrained energy expenditure" model explains why exercise alone doesn't cause weight loss, though it remains crucial for preventing weight gain, reducing disease risk, and potentially tamping down harmful stress responses.

Is this partially ballroom'd White House as chaotic as its detractors—and Trump's chief of staff—say it is? Guest: Ben Jacobs, political reporter based in Washingon. This episode is member-exclusive.
