Playlist:FKA twigs - Girl Feel GoodMiso Extra - CertifiedShygirl, Isabella Lovestory, PinkPantheress - True Religionmariagrep, Galician Army - Una balada más Röyksopp, Fever Ray, Trentemøller - What Else Is There? Playlist:Kele - KintsugiSaya Gray - LIE DOWN..Panchiko, billy woods - shandy in the GraveyardBenjamin Booker - SLOW DANCE IN A GAY BARLonnie Holley - Protest With LoveThandii - MoonDARKSIDE - S.N.CEla Minus - QQQQRöyksopp, Fever Ray, Trentemoller - What Else Is There? The singular Príncipe artist showcases her shapeshifting sound. Before she was simply Nídia, Nídia Borges was Nídia Minaj. Modelled after a musical idol of hers, Nicki Minaj, in 2017, she shed the borrowed surname. As she later said in an interview with The New York Times, "Today I have my own identity. I'm not going to imitate something that someone has done already." And Nídia couldn't be further from an imitator. As one of Príncipe's two non-male members, her body of work stands apart even within Príncipe's unique sonic universe. She traverses a broader emotional territory and extends to collaborations with Fever Ray, Kelela and Yaeji. Her RA Podcast is a restless affair–60 minutes of pushing, pulling, tiptoeing and gliding through the sounds of the Príncipe universe. True to the label's communitarian foundations, the mix contains predominantly original and unreleased material from her colleagues. In 2014, DJ Lilocox told RA: "Whatever your age, skin colour, sexual orientation, money in the wallet, clothes on: Noite Príncipe is for all who come to dance... forgetting the outside world." A decade on, RA.957 echoes this sentiment, a celebration of Príncipe's enduring magic: delirious, transcendent dancing for all. @nidiasukulbembe Read more at ra.co/podcast/957

Cannes is the sister city of Beverly Hills which makes it a moving target for MMM. Jen and André have a conversation about a film festival 16,746 km away from FBi Radio. It's an Andrea year, not a Lynne year, and all about showing up to work but not in a Reichardt way. Directors do their job, budget cuts become jump cuts, and we try to figure out what Megalopolis says about our past friendships. Noticing patterns J+A discuss The Strangers (all 3 of them), Straub-Huillet, Liv Tyler's sliding door acting, what's starring Junglepussy, a treatise on the Sydney film movement of stylists becoming directors, debunking Fever Ray and Jen's discovery of Haile Gerima. Since 2014, Zanias has existed as the unrepentant creative venture of Alison Lewis, born in Australia, raised in Southeast Asia, and also known for her vocal work with Linea Aspera, Keluar and a record shelf's worth of collaborations with the likes of Black Rain, Ancient Methods, Dax J, I Hate Models and Infravision. As the sole custodian of Fleisch Records she spent many years attuning herself to Berlin dancefloors through the timely collision of techno and electronic body music, but her true passion is for understanding the modality of emotions through songwriting. Sound is her psycho-spiritual catharsis and philosophical exploration of existence, expressed through an intense vocal performance, evocative melodies and heavy rhythmic components. With this signature structure she seeks to reinvent her own brand of ethereal pop: atmospheric, multi-layered and as alien as it is authentically, vulnerably human. In 2024 Zanias returns with her latest album called Ecdysis, released on Metropolis Records and Fleisch Records. Named after the final stage of emergence from a former self, Ecdysis lays claim to an entirely new electronic soundscape influenced by the ethereal pioneering of Dead Can Dance, Enya and Fever Ray. Zanias's voice morphs deftly between species and gender, exemplifying the oneness of conscious experience evoked by the more extreme psychedelic states, while the atmosphere is heavily influenced by the Queensland rain forest where much of the recording took place, conjuring an environment rich with biodiversity. https://www.metropolis-records.comhttps://zanias.bandcamp.comQUEEN OF WANDS with DJ Nocturna Every Saturday on ModSnap Radio | KMOD: San Antonio3pm (HST), 5pm (PST), 6pm (MST), 7pm (CST), 8pm (EST)Radio: https://modsnapradio.comThank you for liking, subscribing and sharing my videos ! We're throwing it back to Sept 2019 on this episode, as Chris talks about an album he adores - Shaking the Habitual by The Knife. This was the band/act that Karin was in before they did Fever Ray and it is very very good indeed. Hope you dig this look back!
When we suggested doing Fever Ray after our episode on The Knife's Shaking the Habitual back in Sept 2019, this album didn't even exist. Indeed, Radical Romantics now takes the title of the most recent album covered on Unsung. Back in 2019 Chris would have picked their debut album but as you can see, that's now longer the album he thinks is the best... But before we get to that, in Side A we talk about the history of Fever Ray, a little bit about Karin themselves, and their first album.
And to wrap up our two episodes on Fever Ray we talk about Plunge before Chris goes deep on why their new album, Radical Romantics, is the best thing they've yet done.
We're back after a four month hiatus to bring you our list of the top 100 albums of 2023. Is it, at bare minimum, a month and a half late? Yes. By "we" do we mean "just Brad because Sean wouldn't want any part of this nonsense"? Yes again. But whatever, we're doing it anyway. It has been another great year for music, which at this point should not be shocking. We've got incredible team-ups galore, big names from the past making a mark in the present, new names bursting on to the scene, everything and the kitchen sink albums, spoken word weirdness, hip-hop standard bearers still innovating, gloopy synths, the sounds of a haunted house, and above all else, a lot of very aggressive, noisy music. It was a hell of a year. So... enjoy? (We'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming... eventually. Probably soon. We are still reeling from the Detroit Lions losing the NFC Championship game, so it might be a while) Artists Discussed (In Alphabetical Order): 2FAC, Aaron Dilloway, Aho Ssan, Altin Gun, Ana Frango Elétrico, Armand Hammer, Bandler Ching, BBBBBBB, Bill Orcutt, Billy Woods & Kenny Segal, Bounaly, Brass Riot, Bully, Caterina Barbieri, Charif Megarbane, Colin Stetson, Dead Times, Deena Abdelwahed, Disclosure, Divide and Dissolve, DJ Finale, DJ Girl, DJ Smiley Bobby, EABS & Jaubi, El Michels Affair & Black Thought, Ellen Arkbro, Embarker, Emergency Group, Euglossine, Fever Ray, Fire Toolz, Forest Swords, Gazelle Twin, Gezan & Million Wish Collective, Great Falls, Guilty Simpson & Uncommon NASA, Hitech, Hourloupe, Hyphyskazerbox, ICECOLDBISHOP, Jana Winderen, Janelle Monáe, Jlin, JPEGmafia & Danny Brown, Judgitzu, Karen y los Remedios, Katarsi, KEN Mode, Kool Keith & Real Bad Man, Kouns and Weaver, Larry Wish, Lauren Bousfield, Loraine James, Lost Girls, Lunch Money Life, Madlib, Meyhem Lauren, & DJ Muggs, Mallwalker, Marina Herlop, Matmos, MC Yallah, Mendoza Hoff Revels, MIKE, Mike Nigro, Model/Actriz, Mukqs, M-Ziq, Natalia Beylis & Eimear Reidy, Neupink, Novatron, Nuovo Testamento, Oozing Wound, OrangeTone, Organized Cream, Ortopedia Tecnica, Osees, Paavoharju, Physique, PoiL/Ueda, Private Lives, RP Boo, Screaming Females, Shit And Shine, Sightless Pit, Silver Apples & Makoto Kawabata, Sunik Kim, Sweeping Promises, TALSounds, Tee Vee Repairman, Teeth of the Sea, That Mexican OT, The Gate, The HIRS Collective, Tim Hecker, Tinashe, Tzusing, Victoria Monet, Vorsicht Kinder, Wound Man, Zoh Amba/Chris Corsano/Bill Orcutt --- Website: www.queenvenerator.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/queenvenerator/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/queenvenerator.bsky.social
On Jan. 31, 2024, California lawmakers introduced a first-in-the-nation reparations package. Within the first couple hours of the Sunday release of a Senate bill coupling border security reforms with aid for U.S. allies, such as Ukraine and Israel, critics quickly began to highlight the words of one of the legislation's architects as a reason to reject the 370-page measure while Republicans leaders in the House warned it would be “dead on arrival.” Recording artists Robyn, Fever Ray, Viagra Boys, and 1,000 more members of Sweden's music community are demanding that Israel be excluded from Eurovision 2024.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Halloween is upon us, and after a quick stroll through all things traditions and family policies, Dave and Caleb unpack what makes a song spooky? Is it the song itself, or are the images we associate with it doing half the work? Along the way, they give picks for music that is genuinely terrifying and music that hits the more playful side of the season. Music discussed today: John Carpenter's Halloween Soundtrack (1978) Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe Nine Inch Nails Fever Ray & The Knife (song featured from Fever Ray's self-titled) The Misfits Boards of Canada - Geogaddi The Caretaker - Everywhere at the End of Time Sufjan Stevens - Javelin L'Rain - I Killed Your Dog And then a bunch of stuff that we don't necessarily recommend you listen to. Happy Halloween!
Perera Elsewhere, Fever Ray, Paula Temple and Maral discuss how the space you're in affects the music you write, the importance of mistakes or ‘curating errors', and the significance of technology, particularly when music production software reaches new countries. Perera Elsewhere was born in London and grew up between the UK, Singapore, and Malaysia. She played guitar and trumpet as a child and was really influenced by pirate radio. Now based in Berlin, she's part of the band Jahcoozi, and DJs as Mother Perera. She's played shows at iconic venues including Berghain, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Hamburg Philharmonic. She performs in extraordinary stage outfits, and her music has been described as "doom-folk". Swedish singer-songwriter and record producer Karin Dreijer, aka Fever Ray, was one half of the electronic music duo The Knife, and released their debut solo album in 2009. They love to use masks, body paint and intricate costumes when they perform live. The UK's Paula Temple is one of Europe's most in-demand techno artists. She's a self-proclaimed “noisician” known for making awe-inducing techno, and co-runs the label Noise Manifesto. She's a regular on the festival circuit, having recently performed at Time Warp, DGTL, Awakenings, and Extrema Outdoor. Maral is an Iranian-American DJ and producer. She takes snippets of Iranian folk music and poetry, and repurposes them as glitchy sound experiments to bring the Persian classical repertoire to the dancefloor, something she describes as "jamming with my ancestors". Her musical creations are driven by artful experimentalism, and last year she released her third album, Ground Groove.

The LGBTQ+ heavy metal podcast welcomes Tom's friend (and former guest) Benjamin into the co-host chair for one week only, to discuss how George from Deafheaven and Johannes from Cult Of Luna helped provide the male role models they didn't see elsewhere, and how that helped them come to terms with their gender identity. Also, there's a brief discussion about how a Fever Ray show made Benjamin see some trans parallels (and also what Fever Ray has to do with the metal crowd), and digressions for potato waffles and an infuriating trend amongst hipster hairstyles.Plus there's the usual visit to the Hate Crew Gaybar, where Chrysalis by Finnish heavy psychedelists Polymoon, and A Violent Truth by Kentish shouty/smashy metallers Allfather, both go into the jukebox.

Co-mixed with @Aasthma. There are few people who have had as much of an impact on contemporary electronic music as Karin Dreijer, whether with their brother Olof in The Knife or with their solo project, Fever Ray. From massive indie-pop hits to paradigm-shifting dance records, Dreijer's work takes a psychedelic, plasticine approach to synth pop, with their trademark pitch-shifted vocals and psuedo-tropical beats. As Fever Ray, they've tapped into the global club music underground, working with producers like Nídia, Paula Temple, Deena Abdelwahed, Vessel and, on new album Radical Romantics—one of our favourite albums of the year so far at RA, hands down—even Nine Inch Nails. Another important collaborator in Dreijer's world is Peder Mannerfelt, the Swedish techno producer who has been working with Fever Ray since the first album back in 2009. He co-mixed this RA Podcast as part of Aasthma, his duo with Pär Grindvik. The mix is a survey of Dreijer's favourite dance music, some of which informs their one-of-a-kind sound world as Fever Ray. There's plenty of music from the groundbreaking East African scene centered around Nyege Nyege Tapes, plus DJ Haram, Equinkoxx, Tayhana and more, and even two exclusive, upcoming Fever Ray remixes from Avalon Emerson and Nifra. It's a rare look into the musical tastes of a true visionary. Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/883

"Dance music artists are creating in an environment where they can be more outspoken about their queerness, which means that their work becomes extensions of their queerness." RA's critics discuss expressions of gender and sexuality in the underground scene during this month's roundtable. Each month, Resident Advisor reviews a number of standout EPs, albums and singles, but there are some that resonate with us more than others. In this episode, our in-house music critics Andrew Ryce and Kiana Mickles join RA's Senior Producer, Chloe Lula, in a deep dive into the releases that they considered to be the most noteworthy from this month: Surgeon's new LP, Crash Recoil; Fever Ray's much-anticipated new full length, Radical Romantics; and I. JORDAN and SHERELLE's split two-tracker. Beyond just assessing the music itself, we also debate bigger questions that these works raise. We discuss how some of this month's music invokes themes of love, romance and desire—which are relatively new to the electronic music underground; how representations of queerness are shifting in the contemporary music landscape; and the perennial pop-electronic music crossover, which has defined the contours of the last few weeks' worth of releases yet again. Listen to the conversation in full. This week's intro and outro music, "Transience," was composed by Jo Johnson.

Today's Song of the Day is "Even It Out" from Fever Ray's album, Radical Romantics, out now.
Mixtapes .

Miley Cyrus' new record is out, Vinyl outsold CD's for the first time in 30 years, Van Morrison's 44th album came out, we play some new Cocomelon, Vinnie wins another game, We don't know about Fever Ray, The Cure have announced a tour, the biggest sellers of Vinyl, check your eye drops for recalls, a trick to get cheap easy meals every night without cooking, a ranch flavored ice cream is coming out on March 20th, examples of things that tell people “I have no life,” and Vinnie reads your texts!
Also. Doch, wirklich!
