"My friend, do you have an old dream you need to relinquish? You can trust Him with it. Ours is a God who takes the bones of dead dreams and puts new flesh on them, breathing new life into them (see Ezek. 37:1-14). He takes the mistakes and missteps and says, "Behold! I make all things new!" (Rev. 21:5). Coming Up Clutch with J.R.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how much peace do you have in your life and career right now? (10 = total peace, 1 = minimal, if any) I'm asking because I look at the conversations and headlines around social media these days and I'm seeing a LACK of peace. Even in the conversations I'm having with people around me…pressure seems to be mounting… At home… In the career… With finances… And all the news around the economy and the continued political division with the upcoming election isn't helping. So how do you find peace when all you feel is pressure? I lean in to that question on today's episode of the Coming Up Clutch with J.R.™ show. I sit down with Michele Cushatt - 3-time head and neck cancer survivor, 4-time author, and one of the best communicators and leaders I know. If there's anyone who knows a thing or two about navigating seasons where peace isn't present, it's Michele.  But here's what else Michele knows - how to stay relentless when the fire around you keeps getting worse. Michele and I get real about the challenges of life that we all face. If you want more peace in your life and career, then lock in to today's episode.   In this episode, you'll hear: The role of laughter and humor in overcoming public speaking mishaps and finding common ground for growth. Strategies for transforming uncertainty into momentum and the importance of authentic connections. The intersection of faith, suffering, and resilience, and practices for building faith during tough times. Embracing vulnerability as a means to foster genuine relationships and personal growth. The significance of internal groundedness and having an anchor for enduring peace amidst life's challenges. The impact of showing up flawed and courageous, and how authenticity can lead to greater confidence and authority.   Key Quotes “Pain at any level is a very loud voice that captures our focus and attention and ends up sabotaging our perspective.” “We must believe that our struggle won't be wasted.” “During a challenge, you have two choices: Be defined or derailed by it, or be developed by it.” “People don't connect with perfect performances. They connect with real people.” “Pride is a terrible companion.” “You have to own your own growth. It's no one else's fault or responsibility that you are where you are.” “The secret to peace is finding eyes to see.” “A boat anchored to itself is not anchored at all.” “Peace comes from an internal sense of groundedness, not an external ability to control.” “The moment you think you've arrived is actually the moment you're lost.”   Resources from this Episode Twitter: https://twitter.com/MicheleCushatt  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michelecushatt/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MicheleCushatt  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michelecushatt/  Website: http://www.michelecushatt.com/  A Faith That Will Not Fail: 10 Practices to Build Up Your Faith When Your World Is Falling Apart: https://amzn.to/42DjpvK    Connect with J.R.  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jamesJRreid  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jamesjrreid/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamesjrreid/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/jamesJRreid Website: jamesreid.com Check out The Clutch Club™️: jamesreid.com/club (For Men Only)   Follow and Review: We'd love for you to follow us if you haven't yet. "If our hope rests in Jesus alone, we will not be disappointed. If I place my hope in an outcome — a prayer I want answered or a healing I want delivered — I will end up disappointed. “You will have suffering in this world,” Jesus says (John 16:33). That's the bad news in no uncertain terms. None of us will escape the pain of the human condition. It's part of the deal.  However, Jesus didn't end with the bad news. “But take heart! I have overcome the world,” He promises (John 16:33).  Jesus — the flesh-and-blood presence of God Himself — is our good news. He is our hope, our answered prayer to all prayers. In this bonus episode, we introduce a new series and discuss the themes in the book, '100 Days of Strength in Any Struggle. This first episode of five is on the theme of Surrendering All, and four writers share their thoughts and stories of surrender and how it can feel overwhelming and like a last resort. Michelle shares her story of surrender during a difficult season in her marriage, while Barb shares her experience of surrendering control over her child's developmental delays. Our friends emphasize that surrender is an ongoing process and invite listeners to trust in God's power and let go of their own efforts. They conclude with a prayer for surrender and encourage listeners to explore their book for further guidance.Takeaways:Surrender can feel overwhelming and like a last resort, but it is an ongoing process in our relationship with God.Surrendering control and trusting in God's power can lead to unexpected blessings and a deeper understanding of His character.Pouring out our hearts to God and letting go of our own efforts opens up space for Him to work in our lives.Surrendering is a courageous act that requires trust in God's plan and His ability to bring good out of difficult situations.Get your copy of 100 Days of Strength in Any Struggle wherever books are sold. "I learned two eye-opening (and heart-humbling) lessons:  1. Words hold the power of life and death for the person who says them.  2. Words hold the power of life and death for the person who hears them.  Our words impact our ability to do hard things. And our words impact the ability of other people to do hard things. Yes, there are moments when we must speak the truth about the hard thing out loud. I'm afraid. This is hard. My heart aches. But if complaints dominate our conversation, the hard thing becomes the only thing. And any power we might gain from the Spirit within us gets swallowed up by a lesser voice."Leave a comment for Michele: https://incourage.me/?p=237718--This Easter, prepare your heart and home with Simply Jesus: the Hope of Easter – a new keepsake magazine from DaySpring. Do you have a formula Christianity? The approach that, if I do a and I do b, then God has to do c? The problem with formula Christianity is that it doesn't work. Life tends to mess with it and God isn't bound by it. But worst of all, it tends to push us away from God rather than draw us near. In this episode of The Living Room with Joanna Weaver, Michele Cushatt shares how the dismantling of her religious formulas helped her find God in a deeper way as she shares from her new book,  A Faith That Will Not Fail: 10 Practices to Build Up Your Faith When Your World Is Falling Apart. "Thanksgiving when we have little to celebrate comes at a cost. But the payout is trust and peace. When it comes to an attitude of thankfulness, the Bible verse often quoted around the holiday is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV): "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." Thanksgiving is certainly a good way to approach life, regardless of circumstances. However, too often this passage is misunderstood and misapplied. We think we must give thanks for all circumstances. How exactly are we supposed to give thanks for the death of a loved one? Or for a terminal diagnosis? How do we rejoice in an abuse of power or the trafficking of children? To be thankful for these circumstances feels not only impossible but callous and inhumane.  I have good news for you: We're not commanded to give thanks for all circumstances but in all circumstances. And there's a huge difference between the two."Leave a comment for Michele (and Happy Thanksgiving!!): https://incourage.me/?p=236180--The winter issue of DaySpring's Everyday Faith Magazine is now available! We are often afraid to ask questions that have the potential to destabilize our faith. We worry the answers will reveal that God is not real or that God is not good. One of those questions is, “if God is good, why do bad things happen?” In today's episode, Shelby chats with Michele, who has walked through three decades of suffering and trauma about this exact question.  Michele helps us understand that the presence of sin and suffering doesn't diminish the goodness of God. And she helps us understand that God has provided the greatest good in Jesus. Even when evil presses in from all sides, the gospel gives us real, lasting, eternal hope. Michele also speaks to the person who is feeling weak in their faith and needs the encouragement to keep going in the midst of suffering and pain.  If you struggle to make sense of God's goodness in a broken world or you feel like your faith is faltering and you're in need of a reminder of God's goodness towards you—this episode is for you. I pray that it helps you to see the goodness of God in Christ and the glorious hope offered in salvation.
