In today's heartfelt conversation, Lindsey Maestas speaks with Havilah Cunnington about hearing God's voice -- and what that really means. She talks about victim mentality, ownership, and partnering with God in our walk as a Christian. She shares about how we try to be so low-maintenance toward God that we then limit our own relationships with Him. Lindsey and Havilah discuss the controversy around the words often heard in the church, such as, "God told me" or "God changed his mind" which has created bitterness or indignance toward God speaking to Christians. They discuss life experiences, such as their bonded experience of facing postpartum depression as Christians, how Christians experience God, and how to love our friends and family better as we learn more about how they experience God in their faith walk. Welcome to the show. You are in the right place today! Today we are tackling something that we all care about deeply- hearing from God with my friend Havilah Cunnington. Hearing God's voice is one of the greatest gifts we have been given. Often though we feel frustrated as if we are doing something wrong but really the key is that we need to discover the unique way God speaks to us. Havilah Cunnington is a Bible teacher, author, small business owner, and itinerant speaker obsessed with helping people live the abundant life God has called them to live. Havilah's new book, Created to Hear God: 4 Unique and Proven Ways to Confidently Discern His Voice teaches that God speaks to each of us differently and the key to understanding the unique way He speaks to us is through our prophetic personality. Join Havilah and I as we talk about: When Havilah and Alli first met How we know if we are hearing from God or just ourselves 3 core values for hearing from God The 4 prophetic personalities and understanding your prophetic personality Favorite quotes: “There's a recording of what you said to me that night…[I thought] my sweet little Southern Baptist heart doesn't understand this, but there is a more charismatic part of the church that gets it and feels comfortable hearing from God. And it was later after that you told me, ‘We hear from God in different ways'. And you went through all of that and it changed my life forever.” - Alli Worthington (Youtube 5:27) (Audio - 4:41) “What I've learned about God is that he really doesn't care what our title is or what we theologically know. He knows us - our personhood. He knows our hopes, our dreams. He knows our future. He knows what happened in the past. He knows the secrets of our hearts.” - Havilah Cunnington (Youtube 9:16) (Audio - 8:13) “God did not make a mistake when he made us, and he made us how we are.” - Havilah Cunnington (Youtube 9:43) (Audio - 8:40) “There are three voices that we consistently hear. We hear ourselves, we hear God, and we hear the enemy.” - Havilah Cunnington (Youtube 16:08) (Audio - 13:12) “The prophetic is simply how God shows up in the world. Personality is how you show up in the world. I like to put them together, calling it prophetic personality.” - Havilah Cunnington (Youtube 18:30) (Audio - 15:28) “We want to hear God's voice because you can't have a relationship without His voice.” - Havilah Cunnington (Youtube 19:15) (Audio - 16:10) “We don't learn to hear God's voice. We have been created to hear God's voice.” - Havilah Cunnington (Youtube 20:24) (Audio - 17:12) “God is always speaking.” - Havilah Cunnington (Youtube 21:24) (Audio 18:10) “Everyone deserves to hear God's voice.” - Havilah Cunnington (Youtube 36:45) Coaching this week: 5 Power Packed Clarity Questions (YouTube 38:00 ) (Audio 33:35) Links to great things we discussed: Havilah Cunnington Website Havilah Cunnington Instagram Created to Hear God: 4 Unique and Proven Ways to Confidently Discern His Voice Havilah's Podcast Alli on YouTube Apply for a FREE Coaching Call with Alli Order your copy of Remaining You While Raising Them here. How do you discern what God is saying? The Enneagram teaches us that we're not all the same person. It allows us to be unique and have unique experiences. So, what if the key to hearing Him is understanding the distinct way he speaks to you? Today's guest, pastor and author Havilah Cunnington reminds us we can't assume that God speaks to us all in the same way. “I think that's really important in life, to be different, to have a uniqueness, to understand that God doesn't interact with all of His kids the same way. Just like I have four boys. I don't interact with [them] in the same way,” explains Havilah. “Understanding how He speaks to you gives us a starting point. It allows us to at least recognize where we might be so we can actually go deeper and build a better relationship and interaction with Him." In this episode, we dive into her intriguing insights from her latest book, discussing the nuances of discerning divine guidance and how to harness one's unique spiritual personality for a deeper, more meaningful relationship with God. We also explore how Havilah's Enneagram type energizes her approach to spiritual leadership and her passion for helping others recognize and listen to God's voice in their lives. If you've ever felt lost because you never felt that you could hear the voice of God in your life, this episode could help you discover His unique way of communicating with you. We must learn how to see our identity and value through our Heavenly Father's eyes. Today is the final day of our Advent series. This week is all about love, but we will quickly do a review to remember what we covered in the last 3 weeks. The wreath represents God's everlasting love for us, and his continual love for us. The candles each represent 1,000 years of waiting and anticipation. Advent is about waiting for Jesus to come and do what He said He would do. And we celebrate that but we also wait for the second coming of Christ. The first candle represents hope, the second candle represents peace, the third candle represents joy, and today we are talking about the last candle that is LOVE. Today we are going to talk about the love of christmas, the gospel. God loved the world, He gave us His son, for no one need to be destroyed. We must remember that Christmas was not just about the coming of the son, but we must remember that there was a father that sent him for us, and the son was going to pay a big price but it was always for love.If you missed an episode go back and binge on it all! As we continue this series about Advent, this episode we talk about the encouragement of Him coming. We see in Luke 3 that everyone was in expectation of the messiah to come. John let's them know that there will be a Messiah coming soon. The goal of advent is to have a deeper realization of Christmas. So that we can connect with God in a profound way instead of missing him in the busyness. This season can be a season full, busy, stressful and full of anxiety, but remember that this season is about remembering that Jesus was coming, and that He came, and is still with us! In the busyness of this season, are we making room for Him? When Mary and Joseph knocked on the inn keeper's door, and he said he didn't have room for them, I wonder if he knew who they were if he would make room for them? Maybe give up his own room. In this busy season, how are you ready for God to use you? How have you been aware of Him, for when He calls you, or for when He speaks, would you hear Him? The goal is not about where you will be used, it's about being ready for service. This whole month, join us as we talk about Advent, what it's about and how we can implement it to our Christmas celebrations. If you missed an episode go back and binge on it all! In December we are focusing on sloooooowing down and savoring all the season holds. In this 4-part series, I speak and teach on Advent. Advent is the joyful waiting and anticipation for what's about to happen. It's not a quiet, formal gathering. It's the believers of Jesus Christ waiting with joyful hearts in expectation of Him finally arriving. We have to understand that Christmas represents God fulfilling his promise throughout the generations. That he came but that he is also coming again. Do you know what time it is?
