Disney has made the announcements of the annual passport demise. Is that a forever thing? Would they come up with options to the daily ticket? Al and Andee speculate what might come next.
Today we pause and reflect on January 2021. It has been an eventful year so far for Disney fans including the retirement of Joe Rohde, the retirement announcement from Kevin Rafferty, the cancellation of the Magical Express, vaccine super stations setting up at Disneyland and last but certainly not least, the end of Annual Passports! January 17th marks the last trip Myke TV and Jenn Diz had to the parks together and they reminisce on that trip and the opening of RIse of the Resistance. We think about things we have taken for granted while in the parks and end the episode with a game of guests reviews on some of our favorite attractions! After 37 years of the Annual Passport program in Disneyland, it has been announced that the program will be suspended and reimagined. This is historic news as these passes have been a staple of the Disneyland experience; however, new membership offerings are on their way and should be revealed in the future. Join Peter, Vicky, & Jake as they discuss this heartbreaking news for the Disney fans, DVC direct price increases, and, on the brighter side, a new Disney-Pixar Soul exhibit coming to Epcot's American Adventure.

This week, Team Mousetalgia discusses the recent news that Disneyland is cancelling its annual passholder program. In the wake of the park's unprecedented shutdown due to the global pandemic, APs are no more, and we discuss the emotional impact of the end of the program, and future possibilities for the park's superfans. Then, Tim Babb joins the show as we discuss our top 5 favorite Disney songs, and we come up with some surprising lists of memorable music. We also stop to take a moment to remember Disney Legend Ron "Mr. Disneyland" Dominguez who passed away on Jan. 1. Finally, we welcome Joseph Titizian (Project Manager, Disney Experiences and Parks) back to the show to talk about some upcoming exclusive merchandise which will appeal to Disney history fans.
Ken Potrock issued a statement and emails were sent out to APs today “In the next several days, we will begin the process of issuing appropriate refunds for eligible Disneyland Resort Annual Passports and sunsetting the current Annual Passport program due to the continued uncertainty of the pandemic and limitations and expected restrictions around the reopening of our theme parks.” He kept using the term “sunsetting” instead of canceling the program which seems intentional and a clear hint that the program will be back! Disney “plan(s) to use this time while we remain closed to develop new membership offerings that will utilize consumer insights to deliver choice, flexibility and value for our biggest fans. Once we have more information to share about future membership offerings, our Passholders will be the first to hear from us as we embark on this next chapter.” APs, that had active passports on March 14,2020, will receive additional discounts on merchandise purchased at DTD and Buena Vista St www.disneyland.com/APSpecialOffers We also encourage you to stay connected with the Disneyland Annual Passholders Facebook page as we plan to continue our Annual Passport communication and digital content with more special opportunities to come, until new membership offerings are announced. Disney Tip of the week: Cool Disney Themed locations The Tam O’ Shanter in Los Angeles, California was a popular dining spot for Walt Disney, his animators, and Imagineers. This restaurant is a must-do in Los Angeles not for its cuisine (although the food is above average), but for its rich history. In this post, we’ll take a tour of the Tam O ‘Shanter, and offer some thoughts on the food. A note from Talking Taiwan host Felicia Lin: It’s that time of year again here in New York City. Spring is upon us, and as the weather warms up you’ll find street fairs popping up all around the city. I’ve already run into a couple of them. If you have ever been in the city at this time of year, you’ll know what I’m talking about. It’s hard to miss it when you come across blocks and blocks of a wide New York City avenue that are closed off to traffic, and bustling with pedestrians instead. You’ll smell the aroma of mouthwatering foods wafting in the air, and see a variety of vendors hawking their wares. Imagine a massive flea market and a block party all rolled into one. In the summer New York City is known for its free, open air, outdoor, public events with all sorts of cultural offerings ranging from classical music performances in Central Park to screenings of blockbuster movies at one of the Hudson River Park piers. Most notable for the Talking Taiwan podcast and our listeners, is the Passport to Taiwan, an outdoor festival dedicated to celebrating everything related to Taiwan. The festival takes place every May in Union Square Park and is a chance for the public to experience Taiwanese culture. There are arts and crafts demonstrations, community organizations represented, the ever-popular Taiwanese food stalls, and live music performances. Passport to Taiwan has been going on for 14 years and last year an estimated 10, 000 people were in attendance. The Hello Taiwan concert series was born out of the Passport to Taiwan and brings musical artists from Taiwan to New York to perform at the festival. This year’s Hello Taiwan musical artists are truly representative the ethnic diversity of Taiwan. Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking with Ysanne Spevack, the producer of this year’s Hello Taiwan Tour. Ysanne herself is an accomplished musician who works with up-and-coming musical artists. I was really impressed with how she has embraced Taiwan and the Taiwanese music industry, which she compared to the U.K.’s. That’s high praise indeed! This year’s Hello Taiwan Tour runs May 24-29. Learn more about Hello Taiwan in this episode of the Talking Taiwan podcast. Here’s a little preview of what we talked about in this podcast episode: What is the Passport to Taiwan The origins of Hello Taiwan and the Hello Taiwan tour The musical artists who will be performing at Hello Taiwan: Gina Can, Sean Huang, and Biung Taiwan’s music industry and how it compares to the U.K.’s Hello Taiwan tour dates Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards, Taiwan’s equivalent of the Grammys Ysanne’s advice for aspiring musicians Related Links: Hello Taiwan Website Link: www.hellotaiwan.us/ Hello Taiwan Facebook Page Link: www.facebook.com/HelloTaiwanRocks// Music videos featuring musicians performing in the 2017 Hello Taiwan Tour: Sean Huang (singing to a woman dressed in a cockroach costume), Gina Can and Biung: Link: http://www.hellotaiwan.us/2017.html Treya's Pledge Music Campaign is now LIVE http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/treya To purchase tickets Link to purchase tickets to the May 27th Hello Taiwan concert at Joe’s Pub featuring Sean Huang, Gina Can, Biung and Treya https://www.joespub.com/Tickets/Calendar/PlayDetailsCollection/Joes-Pub/2017/H/Hello-Taiwan/ Talking Taiwan Episode 45 About the 13th Annual Passport to Taiwan Passport to Taiwan website Learn about Taiwan in New York Link: www.p2tw.org/ Ysanne’s personal website http://www.helloysanne.com Ysanne’s company website for Cherry Plum Media http://cherryplum.media
Mark is off again, so Steve is joined by Geoff from DLP Town Square as they chat about the very contentious Disneyland Paris Annual Pass changes. There's official news about CineMagique, 25th Anniversary decoration discussion, Star Wars nights, Belle's arrival and of course a ton of feedback from all of our lovely listeners - that's you!
Just back from Disneyland Paris, Steve and Mark are here to give their thoughts on everything Halloween - the decorations, characters, shows and parades. Plus there's a rundown of what happened at the Halloween Soiree Party and that amazing parade. There's also some news - could new Mickey and Minnie be coming to Disneyland Pairs, will Annual Passports ever go up in price while Inventions just got quite a bit more expensive.
Disneyland Paris rumours a plenty - from the removal of characters from Cafe Mickey to rising Annual Passport prices, a new Star Wars season to Halloween Minnie and everything in between. There's also some actual Disneyland Paris news, like the Castle being painted, 25th Anniversary merchandise on sale, runDisney medals and a light up fountain! The feature of the show is a bumper listener feedback session as we posed the question - what one thing would stop you returning to Disneyland Paris any time soon? The variety of answers was huge, and chips!
All of us on the show have a Disneyland Annual Passport, but not all of us are going to continue that tradition. For some of us, the passes are more of a burden than anything, and we are going to not renew. It's a conversation we've been wanting to have for awhile, so today we get right down to ... What's Wrong With the Disneyland Annual Passport? But first ... Jason opens the show talking about how nervous he is regarding his upcoming wisdom teeth extraction. Then we handle some rather unique feedback, with a listener asking us to imagineer a restaurant on the spot, and we do our best to do him proud. Then it's SpectroTime! Jeremy from SpectroRadio comes on to give us another history lesson on the magic of Disney music. Today, we learn about the area music of Main Street, USA! Finally we get to the show - the Disneyland Annual Passport and what we think is wrong with them, and why most of us are giving them up at the end of the year. For you long-term listeners, we did a similar show back in October 2013 that Taren listened to (so you don't have to) on why passports are great, and gave us a rundown on our thoughts three years ago to preface this show. My, how things have changed. Then we discuss ways that Disneyland can improve the over-crowding in the parks with on of our favorite things to do - stretch our inner imagineer! Finally, it's Disney News, the Fact of the Show, and we are off. See you in the parks!
Team Mousetalgia returns to our overflowing inbox to catch up on your burning questions, and topics include: Searching for nightlife at the Disneyland Resort; locker rentals at the park; trip budgeting; limos from LAX; the value of an Annual Passport during park construction; blu-ray storage; adult experiences at the parks; Disneyland bests and worsts; comparing the Land versus the World for first-time guests; Disneyland marriage proposals; listener trip reports; and more. Plus - Pacific Northwest Mouse Meet ticket sales are announced, Pixar's slow cooker, and music reviews of Voice Play and Peter Alden.

10/05/15 - The team discusses this week’s Disneyland and Southern California news, including analysis of the recent Annual Passport price increase.
Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
Hey, did you hear? Disneyland Annual Passport prices went up. The news was breaking over the weekend just as Tim and Anthony were about to record this week's show. While they didn't have all the info when they fired up the mikes, they certainly got the gist of things. One thousand dollar top level Annual Passports. That's pretty much all anyone needs to know. Do you think the new prices are worth it? Or is outrage more your style? Tim and Anthony offer their takes in this week's edition of Inside The Mouse Castle. Then there's that Rivers of America thing at Disneyland. Seems a chunk of the river and the north part of Tom Sawyer Island are going to get chopped off to make room for the new Star Wars Land expansion. That also means a rerouting of the Disneyland Railroad. MiceChat posted a rough sketch of what they believe will be the new layout. Disneyland has confirmed that RoA will change, but they haven't confirmed exactly how much yet. The Children's Hospital of Orange County partners with Disneyland this weekend for the 25th annual CHOC Walk in the Park. Want to help support the health and well-being of children? Visit www.chocwalk.org. The Walt Disney Family Museum will honor songwriter and Disney Legend Richard Sherman at a fundraising gala on November 3rd. Sherman will be the first recipient of the Diane Disney Miller Lifetime Achievement Award. Sneak previews of Pixar's The Good Dinosaur will begin screening at Disney California Adventure and Disney's Hollywood Studios on October 16th. The film opens in the U.S. on November 25th. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.com
A big part of being a Disneyland fan is getting great info on the parks, tips on making your stay that much better, and opinions on which Churro stand is faster. Sometimes it's nice to just sit back and listen to people review their trips as well, which is why we bring our ... Disneyland Trip Review & Disney News But first ... Taren runs through a massive amount of feedback we have gathered over the last few weeks, while Jason plays a sampling of his new passion - Greek Music! Then we jump right in to the topic - our Disneyland trip review! Bev, Taren, and Jason all went to the parks recently, and it was a pretty special trip for all of us. We cover the cool Indiana Jones celebration that the Annual Passport program put on, as well as finally get our chance to experience Disneyland in the rain! Then we play another game of Disney Trivia that Jason put together, and had three callers battle it out for a really cool prize - a pair of Covears! Finally, we run through some Disney News and share some laughs. Hope you enjoy the show, and we'll see you in the parks! The turnout to hear Tony Baxter talk about Indiana Jones!
Taren's favorite time to go to Disneyland is during the holiday season, so she decided to helm this show and explain what actually goes on during this magical time of ... Holidays in Disneyland In our second live show ever, we start the show debating on if we should renew our Annual Passports in favor of saving that money for Disney World (with a quick jaunt to visit Harry Potter, of course). As of yet we are still undecided ... After a quick round of feedback, Taren takes us into the world of Holidays in Disneyland. She loves this time of year, and with good reason - there is so much to do and see during this time, it's almost hard to do it all! We talk about some special treats that are only around during the holidays in Disneyland too! Then it's time for some Disney News, where we discuss so many things within the Disney universe, like the latest plagiarism suit against Disney for the Frozen movie ... *sigh* ... we check in on the fundraising being done by the good people at the Walt Disney Birthplace as they try to get some funding to restore and preserve this historic building, and much more. And last but not least - the Fact of the Show. Here's a hint: it has to to with this photo here: What does this look like to you? Thanks for listening!
Team Mousetalgia returns to the mailbag to answer your questions, and Jeff and Kristen review an insider's account of working with Walt Disney in the studio. But first - we talk back to listeners about FastPasses, buying Annual Passports, hotel distances from the Main Gate, prepping for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon, making the most out of a Disneyland trip, more on the mysterious "test brick" wall, fun and games with flourscent "invisible" ink, riding the Monorail, and some book recommendations. Jeff and Kristen then review "Walt - Backstage Adventures with Walt Disney" by Charles Shows, a television writer/director who worked for Disney in the heyday of Walt's television productions. Are Shows memories reliable, or the exaggeration of a professional gag writer? You can be the judge as we inspect some of Shows' recollections of working for Walt, the studio head. Plus - our predictions for Disney's next blockbuster film property - and more!
It's Listener Email Monday on Mousetalgia! This week, join Team Mousetalgia as we talk about a little bit of everything, from Annual Passports to Disneyland's half marathon.
