News: An iconic part of Disneyland history – and Disney in general will be getting refurbished soon. Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room closed this week to perform routine maintenance on the lighting, sound, and show. The mighty tree of Tangaroa will be recreated from a high resolution digital scan. The current Tangaroa is no longer able to be repaired, having been there since the attraction opening in 1963. The attraction will reopen later this summer. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/tangaroa-tree-be-rebuilt-during-upcoming-refurbishment-walt-disneys-enchanted-tiki-room-disneyland/ https://www.micechat.com/146135-rolly-crump-impostor-syndrome-part-2/ Tour dates are open for the new guided tour coming to Disneyland for the 70th anniversary. We talked about removing the two ticket booths from the esplanade, but did not mention the permit to tear down the existing building – currently home to Earl of Sandwich. No timeline on the permits, but this is forward progress. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ Once again, Disneyland Cast Members were invited to create upcycled art projects to be shown off to guests for Earth Month. Antonio has been working at the Disneyland Resort for 18 years, and has received over 735 cast compliments from guests. Antonio works at Pixar Pier attractions and before Disneyland, worked for nearly 10 years in hospitality in Dubai and Qatar. Antonio's rise to fame is in part due to his exuberant energy and fun dance moves for guests! – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/dancing-disneyland-resort-cast-member-inspires-happiness/ Last week, we talked about recycling your food scraps at Disneyland. Since then, little droids have appeared on top of food scraps containers to remind guests that only food scraps should be deposited in the bin they are standing on. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ A new way to checkout at Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta has arrived. A kiosk for guest self-checkout has been installed. The system scans the items on the tray, adds it up, and asks for payment. Currently, Magic Key discounts must involve a cast member, and payment can only be made with credit or debit card. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ Weeklyteers who may be in the parks starting May 9th should know that it is Grad Nite season at the resort again, and park hours may be impacted. Tiana's Palace background music. This features a fair amount of ambience including Walt Disney's speech being tapped in Morse Code at the Disneyland Railroad station, trains rolling into the station, sounds of Tom Sawyer's island rafts motors, beignet bags being shaken to coat the sugar on this pastry treat, and families walking by late morning discussing their plans. This recording is from behind the bandstand earlier in the day. Tiana's Palace has been opening early allowing for many people to take advantage of the redone quick service restaurant. The walkway started to get somewhat busy 20 or so minutes into the recording. It's a bit challenging to get this audio when it's busy and I'll absolutely need to come back at night some time. When we started this podcast series examining the lands of Disneyland Park in the Disneyland Paris Resort, we began our first focused podcast with Fantasia Gardens, moved past the Disneyland Hotel, and down the left side of Main Street U.S.A., to include the Liberty arcade. We have then moved through Frontierland, Adventureland, Fantasyland and Discoveryland. Now we will return to Main Street and move down the right side toward the castle. One might think this is a lot of podcast for what is a lot of shops and eateries but I hold that this is perhaps the best designed retail and dining experience in the world. Even better than any of the other Main Streets found in parks world-wide. The attention Imagineers put toward the design of this street is unparalleled in terms of attention to detail, especially for something that is not really about rides and attractions (though we will talk about the Disneyland Railroad). In fact, we will consider this as to whether this is the best combined indoor/outdoor entertainment/retail/dining mall-style experience across the globe. Join us as we continue our series of celebrating the many lands of Disneyland Park in Disneyland Paris. This podcast as well as all others are brought to you by Performance Journeys, which celebrates its 20th year as a training and development group bringing best in business ideas through keynotes, workshops, seminars and amazing benchmarking programs to organizations in the public, private and non-profit sectors. In his latest release, Andrew discusses the partnership between Ford and Disney that would provide the foundation for future attractions like the PeopleMover and the Primeval World scene on the Disneyland Railroad. Kiste speaks with Notably Disney host Brett Nachman about uncovering long-forgotten artifacts from the pavilion's development, explaining how the Magic Skyway attraction operated, and engaging with individuals who worked the pavilion nearly six decades ago. The Mouse Castle Lounge Podcast: Disney News and Interviews, Cocktails and Conversations
Star Wars Land is officially under construction at Disneyland. This week, to make way for the 14-acre addition to the park's northwest corner, several sections of the park were closed—some temporarily, some permanently. The Rivers of America will be drained and rerouted, resulting in a shorter trip around a smaller Tom Sawyer Island. That project will take at least a year, which means no Mark Twain, no Columbia, no canoes, no island rafts and no Fantasmic! during that time. The Disneyland Railroad will also take a hiatus so the track around the river can be reconfigured. Big Thunder Ranch and the Big Thunder BBQ: gone forever, their footprints expected to become the gateway to Star Wars Land. What will we get when the dust finally settles? The largest single-themed land expansion in Disneyland history, featuring two E-ticket attractions: one that puts you in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance, another that puts you behind the controls of the Millennium Falcon. The changes don't come without controversy, though. While many hail the arrival of a galaxy far, far away at the Happiest Place on Earth, others are less than enthusiastic, feeling this is a sea change that alters the very core of what makes Disneyland Disneyland--what my first guest, Disney historian Sam Gennawey, calls the park's historic DNA. I spoke with Sam a week ago, when guests were still clamoring for one final float around the river and one final grand circle tour. I also spoke with multimedia reporter Mark Eades with the Orange County Register. Mark has written extensively about Disneyland and is a former Imagineer himself. He knows his stuff. Sam Gennaway and Mark Eades offer two distinct viewpoints about what may be the most significant expansion in Disneyland history. They're my guests today in The Mouse Castle Lounge. Enjoy! www.TheMouseCastle.comRSS Feed: http://themousecastle.libsyn.com/rss
