Pete and Vicky discuss the 2024 point charts released by Disney Vacation Club. For the first time in a few years, there were no significant changes. DVC also increased direct pricing for most resorts. Disney announced the closing date for Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World. RunDisney volunteer benefits have been reduced without notice, starting with the recent Wine & Dine Half Marathon. DVC Points Charts Released for 2024 Disney Vacation Club released the 2024 point charts last week, and the biggest item of note was that there were no significant changes beyond the dates of the holidays shifting. This is the first time in four years that the points charts have stayed the same, as over the last three years Disney has been slowly increasing the amount of points required for staying in October and November while at the same time lowering the number of points required for summer stays. Source: Disney Vacation Club website Splash Mountain at Disney World Closing January 23rd On December 3rd, Walt Disney World announced that the final day of operation for Splash Mountain will be on January 22nd, with the ride permanently closing for good on January 23rd. There has been no announcement for the final closing date of Splash Mountain at Disneyland Resort, but the ride is expected to close soon since both rides are scheduled to re-open in late 2024 as Tiana's Bayou Adventure. Source: Walt Disney World website, Theme Park Tourist Direct Pricing Increases across Multiple DVC resorts Disney Vacation Club increased direct pricing for Aulani Disney Vacation Club Villas, Disney's Riviera Resort, and Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to have a base price of $217 per point. Many other sold-out resorts had direct pricing increase by $10 per point: Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort (now $275) Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge (now $215) Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge (now $250) Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas (now $210) Disney's Beach Club Villas (now $275) Disney's BoardWalk Villas (now $240) Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort (now $165) Disney's Vero Beach Resort (now $150) Disney's Old Key West Resort and Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spas went up as well by $5 to $205 per point. The only resorts to not increase were Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and interestingly Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, which is expected to have new units opening in 2024. While direct prices are increasing, resale prices are dropping due to a large amount of units on the market. Many DVC contracts can be purchased on the resale market for up to $100 per point less than direct pricing. Source: DVC News RunDisney Reduces Benefit for Volunteers Volunteers for the recent Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend were surprised when they received park tickets that were not valid until after 1:00 p.m. In the past, Disney would mail out full-day park tickets to each volunteer within 60 days after the conclusion of a race. However, this time they were handing them out as they were leaving the event. Source: WDW News Today My DVC Points is an awesome community of DVC members. Disney also revealed a reopening date for Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park after an extended refurbishment, and Disney Cruise Line removed the COVID-19 testing requirement regardless of vaccination status. More than a rumor? Direct Pricing going up in December There have been repeated posts of DVC direct guides indicating to clients that the pricing on all the currently for sale DVC resorts will be increasing by $10 in early December - more specifically December 4th. Base price would go from $207 to $217 per point. While it is not unusual for guides to get hints at changes before they are in place, it is rare that this information would come out so far in advance of a date. We normally do not share rumors on the DVC Newscast, but in this case with information coming from multiple cast members, we felt that we should share. This would apply to Disney's Riviera Resort, Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. It is not known if any of the older resort direct prices would be affected. Source: Various Extended evening hours to stick around through 2023 Walt Disney World announced that the popular extended evening hours benefit for guests staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort, Disney Deluxe Villa Resort or other select hotels will continue beyond the 50th Anniversary celebration throughout all of 2023. A new inner tube return system has been added for Runoff Rapids and a Frozen theme to Tike's Peak. The park will re-open on November 13th for guests to visit from 10 AM to 5 PM. Parks hours are shown on the Walt Disney World calendar through December 30th. It has also been announced that Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will be closing for its annual refurbishment on November 13th as well. It is not known at this time whether we will see another closure of Blizzard Beach this winter, or if instead Typhoon Lagoon will get an extended closure. Source: Walt Disney World Website Disney Cruise Line drops COVID testing requirements Disney Cruise Line announced that guests would no longer be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test before boarding a ship, regardless of their vaccination status. The official Disney Cruise Line website said the requirement would go into effect starting November 14th for all sailings from the United States. Unvaccinated passengers still have to test negative before boarding prior to November 14th. Previously, Disney Cruise Line had required guests 5 years or older to provide a negative COVID-19 test one to two days before their sail date. Disney World Guests can now book Park Pass Reservations for all ticket types at the same time, so if you are an Annual Passholder and want to book with friends that have a single day ticket, you can make all the reservations at the same time. Another change is that Park Passes will be tied to a ticket and not a guest. This means that guests can have multiple ticket types (eg. Annual Pass, day ticket) and choose which ticket they would like to assign a Park Pass reservation to. Disney is also increasing the number of tickets that you can reserve from 12 to 30 guests, which should better accommodate larger traveling parties. Pete, Vicky, and Jen discuss the new renewal information announced for Disneyland's Magic Keys program, including price increases, blockout dates, and other changes. Disney's Skyliner will be down for maintenance in late January 2023. Disney also announced three tours will return to Walt Disney World's EPCOT in October 2022, including the popular Behind the Seeds tour. Magic Key renewal program announced Disneyland has finally announced the renewal program for their magic key program, the equivalent of an annual pass in Florida. Some changes are being made as well as a pretty hefty price increase. The top tier program “Dream Key” is being replaced with an “Inspire Key”. This pass has a black-out dates from December 21st to January 1st, leaving no passes available for Christmas holidays. The pass price also went up $200 to $1,599 per person, though photo pass has now been added to all passes and a 20% discount on Genie+ was added to this as well as the “Believe Key”. The other Key levels remain the same, with the Believe Key price now at $1,099, which is a $150 increase. The Enchant Key went up $50 at $699 and Inspire Key for local residents at $449 also went up $50. Magic Key first became available on August 21st, 2021 - and renewals began on August 18th, 2021. Key holders will be allowed to renew up to 30 days after the expiration of their pass. And this is important - When you renew, you can choose to stay at your current pass level or choose any other Magic Key that might be better for you. However, note that there will be no new Magic Keys sold at this time, only renewals. AND, due to the popularity of certain keys, any key may sell out at any time. It's possible that a key may not be available during your renewal period (but you'll still be able to select another available Key). So essentially you are guaranteed to be allowed to renew - but NOT guaranteed to get the same pass you currently have. Source: Disneyland Website and Micechat Disney Skyliner to be down for maintenance January 2023 From January 22-29, 2023, Disney's Skyliner will be unavailable while routine maintenance is performed on the transportation system. It is unlikely that the entire Skyliner route will be closed for this 8-day span; rather portions of the line will likely be unavailable for several days while the rest of the system continues to run. Since there are three separate spurs, it is likely that one or more of those spurs may be scheduled to close for 2-3 days while the other routes continue to transport guests. The exact maintenance schedule will not be known until closer to January. Source: Walt Disney World Website, DVCNews EPCOT Tours to return There are three more reasons to visit EPCOT with the return of fan-favorite tours from the Enchanting Extras Collection beginning October 2, adding to and completing the previously announced lineup of highly popular tours returning to Walt Disney World Resort. A limited number of reservations for this timeless experience will be bookable in the My Disney Experience app beginning June 28. Walk-in appointments will be accepted based on availability. Source: Disney Parks Blog Story #2 Genie+ Changes at Walt Disney World In an announcement that Walt Disney World Resort will open bookings for theme park tickets, Disney Resort hotel stays and packages for visits in 2023 on June 8, a change to Genie+ was also mentioned. Starting June 8, Disney Genie+ will only be offered for purchase through the My Disney Experience app on the day of your visit. Previously, Disney offered the option to purchase this service pre-arrival as a ticket add-on. This means that moving forward, whether you have an Annual Pass, multi- or single-day ticket, you may only purchase Disney Genie+ service on the day of your visit via the app, one day at a time, subject to availability. Disney hopes this adjustment will help manage the strong demand guests have shown for Disney Genie+. Disney stated, on average, guests who purchase Disney Genie+ service will continue to enter 2-3 attractions or experiences each day using the Lightning Lane entrance when the first selection is made early in the day. Any tickets already purchased that include Disney Genie+ service for dates later in 2022 will still be honored. Note this update is also only happening at Walt Disney World Resort and will not affect guests at Disneyland Resort. Disney also confirmed the early theme park entry benefit for Disney Resort hotel guests will continue beyond the 50th Anniversary for visits throughout all of 2023! This benefit gives Disney Resort guests an opportunity to enter ANY of the 4 Walt Disney World Resort theme parks to enjoy select attractions, shops, and dining EVERY day (valid admission, park reservation, and Resort ID required). Pete, Shannon, and Sam from DCL Duo discuss the delay of the Disney Wish maiden voyage and the impact on the DVC member cruise. For DVC direct sales, 50% of the Big Pine Key building has been declared and DVC releases significant discounts on Bay Lake Tower. Hollywood Studios will have extended evening hours for one week in lieu of Magic Kingdom beginning April 13th. N069 Season 7 of the My DVC Points Podcast was brought to you by: DVC Resale Market - Industry Leader in DVC Resales DVC Rental Store - DVC Point Rentals Monera Financial - Exclusively Financing DVC Contracts Patreon supporters in the My DVC Points VIP Producer Club. Disney Wish Maiden Voyage and DVC Cruise delayed Disney has sent e-mails to all members scheduled to cruise on the DVC cruise on June 14th. The e-mail stated as follows: “While we are all eagerly awaiting the ship's debut, today we must share that our anticipation will unfortunately have to extend a bit longer than initially planned. The shipyard has notified us that despite their very best efforts, they will need more time to finish our ship due in part to the pandemic and particularly the arrival of the Omicron variant in Germany at a critical point in the process. As a result, we are left with no other choice than to delay our maiden voyage until July 14, 2022. This will regrettably affect the exclusive Disney Vacation Club cruise for which you have a reservation. Since you were booked on the exclusive Disney Vacation Club cruise, we will automatically shift your reservation to the new Member sail date, July 19, 2022, at a 50 percent discount. If you are unable to move to this new date, you will have the option of either a 50 percent discount on a future cruise departing by December 31, 2023, with all reservation points and monies applied to that future cruise, or a full refund, including reimbursement of any cash and/or the return of any reservation points used for your reservation.” It's important to note the difference between “Reservation Points” and “DVC Points”, as once points are converted to “Reservation Points,” they do not convert back to DVC Points. Source: Disney Cruise Blog 50% of Grand Floridian Big Pine Key Building declared as part of Condo Association In a series of filings with the Orange County Comptroller's office, Disney Vacation Club has amended the Ground Lease, Declaration of Condominium and Membership Agreement to begin adding the "Phase 2" units to its Grand Floridian timeshare development. A total of 101 Resort Studios were added to the program, representing half of the 202 rooms which make up the project. The rooms formally added include most of the 3rd floor, plus all of the 4th and 5th floors of the Big Pine Key building. While these filings move Disney Vacation Club closer to selling additional points at the Grand Floridian, no prices or sale dates have yet been disclosed. With Disney's Riviera Resort, sales began about one month after similar declarations were filed. For reference, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge opened sales just 15 days after such filings. Source: Disney World Website Deep discount on direct points at Bay Lake Tower Tim Krasniewski over at DVC News has indicated a current special incentive from Disney for Direct purchase at Bay Lake tower, with up to a $48 discount on points purchase. Remember, base price for BLT is $245 but discounts this large are rare for sold-out resorts. For example, 200 points a new member would receive a $26 discount to $219, while an existing member can add-on 200 points with a $43 reduction bringing the price down to $202 per point. Remy's Ratatouille Adventure to end Virtual Queue Disney announced that on January 10th, they will suspend use of the virtual queue at Remy's Ratatouille Adventure. This means there will be only two options for riding, standby queue, or the individual paid lightning lane. It is expected that standby waits will be significant. Source: Disney Parks Blog DVC Blue Cards discontinued - now use “Magic Mobile” for your DVC card DVC had previously announced that the physical “Blue Card” was going to be suspended on January 1, 2022. Now we know the replacement is through the My Disney Experience App, and using Magic Mobile. MagicMobile was introduced in 2021 as a new feature allowing guests to use most smartphones and watches to replicate features of the MagicBand. It has now been expanded to show digital membership verification. MagicMobile is configured using the My Disney Experience app on supported smartphones. Tap on the "hamburger" button on the bottom right (three horizontal lines) and select "Disney MagicMobile." Tap "Set Up Your Pass" and use the "Change Pass Style" button to select one of the available card designs. (You do NOT need to select the DVC design for it to register you as a DVC member.) After selecting a design, tap on the "Add to Wallet" button to create the digital pass within the smartphone's Apple or Android wallet. This electronic card will show any affiliation including Annual Passes and DVC. Source: My DIsney Experience App DVC Webpage Using Virtual Queue For Login The DVC members-only website has recently added a queuing system to control the volume of traffic. When the virtual queue is in place, visitors will not be able to immediately log in. Instead, they will be presented with the following message: Due to high demand on the Member website, you are currently waiting to visit disneyvacationclub.com. If your need is not urgent, we recommend that you try again at a later time. If you wish to remain in the queue, please do not refresh this page or close your browser and you'll be redirected shortly. Thank you for your patience. This queuing process could present issues for members looking to make reservations early in the morning when the 11 or 7 month booking windows come into play. Reservations open daily at 8:00am eastern, with some resorts and room types filling within minutes, in accordance with high member demand. Several recent late-morning login attempts saw our access delayed by approximately 60 seconds. The change comes as 11-month reservations are being accepted for popular dates in the fall of 2022, with Thanksgiving and Christmas periods rapidly approaching. These price increases come as Disney Vacation Club prepares to relaunch sales of the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. 200 additional Resort Studio rooms are scheduled to be added in the summer of 2022. Points charts were recently revealed for both 2022 and 2023. Sales are expected to begin sometime in the first quarter of 2022. More than 3,600 Dream Keys were sold. In total, the lawsuit includes six causes of action, including violations of the consumers' legal remedies act, violations of the false advertising law, violations of the unfair competition law, breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, and concealment/non-disclosure. News Stories B'Lou Crabbe and Shadow “released” from Hilton Head Island resort DVC recently announced that popular character B'Lou Crabbe and his dog Shadow were released from their contract at Hilton Head Island. These two had been entertaining guests at the resort for 21 years and were summarily dismissed by Disney. If you wish to show your support, we have linked the Facebook fan page where people post their experiences and contact information to get in touch with Disney. Source: B'Lou Crabbe and Shadow's Facebook Page DVC Publishes Our 2022 Dues On November 9th, DVC released the regular dues for the various resorts. On their DVC Member account, every owner will have a link to the details for their resorts, but we thought we would share some info. For non-WDW resorts, Aulani had a 3.7% increase to $8.67 for the unsubsidized dues, which is pretty standard. VGC was higher than most at 6.9%, as increases occurred across the board. Hilton Head Island only saw a 0.9% increase, while VB saw a 6.2% increase to $11.94, the highest of any resort by almost $2. On average - the dues for WDW resorts only rose by 2.3%. We believe there are two main reasons for this: the lowered tax assessments and the decreased transportation fees for many resorts, likely due to the removal of Magical Express. Of note: Old Key West saw the most significant change at 5.3% $8.81 per point, mainly because the reserve funds have dwindled and needed to be increased. OKW is now the most expensive of the DVC resorts in Walt Disney World and the third most expensive dues overall. The Polynesian also saw a 4.6% increase to $7.39 per point and 33 cents increase, surging it out of the bottom three. We noticed an INCREASE in transportation costs versus other resorts and administration and front desk costs rising by 25% for unknown reasons. The happiest members will be at Copper Creek and Riviera - where dues remained essentially flat, as well as Boulder Ridge with a mere 0.5% increase. Source: Inside The Magic DVC 2021 Property tax appraisals drop significantly, resulting in likely refunds to owners Lead: Pete The Disney Vacation Club resorts at Walt Disney World have received their property tax notices for 2021. Tax rates have gone up for 2021, but property appraisals are significantly lower than the year before. The net effect is that the tax bills for 2021 are lower than estimated when DVC approved budgets in December 2020. The Orange County Property Appraiser reduced the appraisals for nine fully declared resorts by exactly 15%. The only fully declared resort that did not have its value reduced by 15% was Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Resort; its appraisal was lowered by only 13.7%. Riviera saw its value increase by 29.2%. These are the lowest appraisal rates in many years. How does this affect DVC members? Since members have already pre-paid the 2021 taxes in this year's dues, a lower assessment means members should see a credit against their 2022 dues. This credit will range from 17 cents per point for OKW owners, to 28 cents per point for the Poly Villas, with Copper Creek seeing a 54 cent credit. Disney Genie Service to Reimagine the Guest Experience at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort We're almost ready to let Disney Genie out of the lamp! Coming this fall to Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, Disney Genie is a complimentary and convenient new digital service designed to create your best Disney day. We've been listening to your feedback – you want planning to be easier, you want more flexibility and you want better tools to help you make the most of your visit – and that's exactly what Disney Genie is here to do. We've made significant investments in this cool new technology, which guides you through our theme parks with tips that can help you reduce time in lines, discover magic around every corner, and take the guesswork out of “what's next.” Built right into the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps, the Disney Genie service will maximize your park time, so you can have more fun. It includes a personalized itinerary feature that will quickly and seamlessly map out an entire day. From specific attractions, foodie experiences and entertainment, to general interests like Disney princesses, villains, Pixar, Star Wars, thrill rides, and more – just tell Disney Genie what you want to do and it will do the planning for you. Here are a few more features: Get Itinerary Updates from Morning to Night: Disney Genie will continue to update your itinerary throughout your day, so you can be more spontaneous and go with the flow. Find Your Favorites at a Glance: Create your very own personal tip board to instantly see your favorites. It will display current AND forecasted future wait times, helping you predict when you might experience quicker entry to attractions. Enjoy More Flexibility and Fun: Disney Genie brings existing planning features together in one place. Join a virtual queue at certain attractions, make dining and experience reservations, mobile order food at many locations, get help from a virtual assistant, and more. For even more convenience and flexibility, there are two other options for enjoying our theme parks, through a queue we are introducing called the Lightning Lane entrance that also saves you time in line: Disney Genie+ service (available for purchase): For the price of $15 per ticket per day at Walt Disney World Resort and $20 per ticket per day at Disneyland Resort, choose the next available time to arrive at a variety of attractions and experiences using the Lightning Lane entrance. Throughout the day, you can make one selection at a time, from classics like Haunted Mansion to thrill rides like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and newer favorites like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (attractions subject to limited availability). This convenient option is the next evolution of the fan-favorite Disney MaxPass service from Disneyland Resort. Disney Genie+ will also include Disney parks-themed audio experiences and photo features to capture your memories – augmented reality lenses for those visiting Walt Disney World Resort and unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads from your day if you are visiting Disneyland Resort. Individual attraction selections (available for purchase): Schedule a time to arrive at up to two highly demanded attractions each day using the Lightning Lane entrance – like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park and Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure park (subject to limited availability; attractions not included with Disney Genie+). Pricing for this option will vary by date, attraction, and park and will be announced closer to launch. Lightning Lane selections will be made on the same day of your visit and can be used across multiple theme parks, great for those who love the Park Hopper option. Attractions continue to offer a traditional standby queue, or a virtual queue at certain attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – to maximize flexibility. While the FASTPASS, FastPass+, and Disney MaxPass services will be retired, we're incredibly excited about the flexibility and choices the Disney Genie service provides. You can choose from all of our new options, a mix of them or none at all, and continue to have a great experience no matter how you decide to plan your best Disney day. We are also making some enhancements to our Disability Access Service (DAS) program, including new options to enroll in the program pre-arrival and for DAS participants to select attractions directly in the app. These options will be available in addition to our existing, in-person DAS program. Visit our Services for Guests with Disabilities page DisneyWorld.com and Disneyland.com for more details.
