Kick in Russ – Die WM 2018 – meinsportpodcast.de

A new CONCACAF president was elected on Thursday in Mexico City, and he hails from East Vancouver! Canadian Soccer Association president Victor Montagliani will now lead the much-maligned soccer confederation into a new era, having become the first Canadian to land the role. There’s MLS talk. Is the 2016 edition of Toronto FC side the best Reds side in their brief MLS history? David Bowie sang about "Young Americans". We were hoping to find a cover version with someone singing about "Young Canadians" instead for this podcast. We couldn't find that, so you'll have to make do with interviews with three of Vancouver Whitecaps young Canadian stars. We have an extended chat with new signing Fraser Aird who's looking to establish himself as a first team regular after his loan move from Rangers? Is he keen to hang around long term, what was behind his decision to come here and what might it mean for his Canadian national team hopes? All this and a lot more discussed in his first media conference call. We also have exclusive interviews with two Whitecaps Residency alumni, who are hoping to see first team minutes this season, midfielder Ben McKendry and goalkeeper Marco Carducci. It was a tough season last year for both players, for differing factors, but both are back, ready and raring to go and show Carl Robinson they deserve to be part of his long term plans. We also look at the imminent arrival of Blas Perez. What will it mean to the team, their goalscoring and their disciplinary record? Will the fans accept the horned striker? And there's still time to cast our fashionista eyes over the new Whitecaps away kit. Have a listen!

It was life imitating art as the evil JR, played by Blas Perez, stole Thor's thunder as good-guy younger brother Bobby, played by Aaron Wheeler, looked to have stolen the show, the perennially nice, but useless Cliff Barnes played by Zach MacMath did his usual routine of screwing everything up with a dopey "who me?" look on his face as the ineffectual Sue-Ellen, played by John Hackworth looked on from the sidelines. You couldn't make this stuff up.  No Stormin' Gorman means even more prattling on from Richie and a greater amount of stats-a-plenty from Pat.  Here's hoping Dan makes it out of the Georgia swamps in time for the next episode.

Team Canada takes out Panama 1-0 to move atop of Group C. It was a critical result for the team who in a must-win were mentally prepared and tough against a tricky opponent. Kevin McKenna and Atiba Hutchinson stood apart as the class of the team and their presence was paramount in the result as McKenna dominated Blas Perez in the 18-yard box and Hutchinson imposed himself in the midfield. With the win, Canada are in a position where they just need to get a point in the away fixture to put them one step closer to advancing to the Hex. Stephen Hart will need to get the right approach in a hostile environment Tuesday night for that to happen.
