Before the the Boys Development Academy came into being in 2007, it needed a model. Something the represented new concept of training and youth development for America's growing soccer population. When US Soccer established the Bradenton residency of its U17 Men's National Team, John Ellinger was the man to run it. Ellinger built a curriculum of development for forty of the countries top soccer talents -- a group that included the likes of Landon Donovan and DaMarcus Beasley -- helping shape the future of the senior men's team. That program, and its success, also shaped "what good looked like" for a new approach to developing youth soccer talent in America. John Hackworth, considered the architect of the DA, credits Ellinger as the real "father" of the DA. He joined Founding Futbol for a wide-ranging conversation about the Bradenton residency, the DA, and the current state of youth soccer. Founding Futbol is a year-long exploration of the critical moments that have led to soccer's emerging popularity in America. Youth soccer in America has gone through multiple progressions. US Youth Soccer created pathways for players to make their way to the national team. The evolution club soccer in the late 90s and early 2000s changed the competitive dynamic even more. But there was still more needed for the US to take a critical step competing globally. The U17 Bradenton residency was the first step in this progress. Then, that led to the Boys Development Academy. John Hackworth was the primary architect behind the Boys DA. He joined the show to talk about how it got off the ground, why it was important, and what makes him wish it was still around. Hello Colorado Rapids fans. This week on Holding The High Line, there's excitement for 4th of July and a reality check. We banter about Rafael Navarro getting confirmed, Lamine Diack heading back to France, and Keegan Rosenberry surprisingly making the MLS All-Star team. We break down that 3-0 loss to LAFC on Saturday. The approach and ideas were good, but they were too aggressive and naive to start the match. The Black and Gold showed why they are one of the best teams in MLS, especially when they're ahead at home. The Burgundy Boys hung in there in the second half until Kévin Cabral got sent on. There's a discussion to be had about how the Pids were undisciplined for the first time this year. But hey, Mike Edwards was ok off the bench. Then we turn to another double game week. Sporting KC are old and bad. St. Louis CITY know what they are and could have a new coach bump after parting ways with Bradley Carnell. We talk about what John Hackworth could do come Sunday. We recorded this episode before the USMNT's loss to Uruguay. How about Canada getting out of the group though? We have partnered with BETUS. Get a 125% bonus on your first three deposits when you use our link. They are even doing Concacaf competitions now.
In the second hour of this Sunday morning sports show, we kick things off with Lutz Pfannenstiel as he recaps the draw with Houston and looks ahead to the upcoming clash with LAFC in soccer. Next, Tom Ackerman has an insightful discussion with John Mozeliak, the Cardinals' president of baseball operations, where they delve into recent road series wins, the future of the outfield, challenges faced by players like Dylan Carlson, and offseason plans for acquiring pitching talent. To wrap up the hour, Ackerman sits down with hockey legend Bernie Federko, who shares his excitement and insights about the return of Blues hockey. Federko, a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee in 2002, provides an exclusive look into the upcoming season and the future of the St. Louis Blues.

It was life imitating art as the evil JR, played by Blas Perez, stole Thor's thunder as good-guy younger brother Bobby, played by Aaron Wheeler, looked to have stolen the show, the perennially nice, but useless Cliff Barnes played by Zach MacMath did his usual routine of screwing everything up with a dopey "who me?" look on his face as the ineffectual Sue-Ellen, played by John Hackworth looked on from the sidelines. You couldn't make this stuff up. No Stormin' Gorman means even more prattling on from Richie and a greater amount of stats-a-plenty from Pat.
