Season 7 Ep 11 (142) To Catch a Sly Written: David Paulsen Directed: Michael Preece Aired: December 9, 1983 ----more---- As J.R. continues his single minded pursuit to discover the identity of the spy within Ewing Oil who is providing Barnes with confidential business information, Katherine Wentworth continues her scheming to marry Bobby by getting more information about Jenna Wade's child that everyone assumes is Bobby's daughter. Meanwhile, Lucy tells Sue Ellen that she feels it's time to quit mourning over the death of Mickey, and that she wants to begin moving on with the rest of her life by asking Peter to escort her to a friends wedding. Despite the fact that Lucy is very aware that Peter has a strong attraction to Sue Ellen, and even appears to be embarrassingly shocked when Peter turns her offer down. Peter later confronts Sue Ellen outside a store front to express his dissatisfaction that she's not doing enough to maintain their mutually agreed upon friendship. In response, Sue Ellen isn't the least bit concerned that Peter's unrelenting need to be with her might be signs of a serious obsessive-compulsive disorder that needs to be treated, and simply tries to convince Peter that she wants to just remain friends. J.R. eventually discovers that the spy at Ewing Oil is the office secretary Sly, and after confronting her with the evidence, suggest that she work with him to double cross Cliff Barnes. ----more---- EwingBBQ.com Patreon: www.Patreon.com/EwingBBQ Merch: bit.ly/ewingbbqmerch Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/EwingBBQ/ TikTok: @Ewingbbq Instagram: @EwingBBQ Twitter: @BBQEwing

Send us a Text Message.Step right into the eye of the storm with me, Jett, as we untangle the latest high-stakes drama from the classic soap, "Dallas." Grasp the fragile threads of fortune and fate that bind the Ewing family together – will solidarity or scandal reign supreme? We kick off with the aftershocks of the "Who Done It?" mystery, where allegiances are put to the test and Sue Ellen's predicament begs the question: can money buy freedom, or is it the root of all evil? And for those craving a slice of homespun wisdom, we answer a fan's letter about Val's charm, which proves that sometimes, the most unassuming characters steal the show.Buckle in for a bumpy ride as we recount Sue Ellen's spiral from high society to handcuffs, with only a hypnosis session standing between her and a conviction for J.R.'s shooting. But family ties in "Dallas" are as tangled as barbed wire, and the dynamics between Lucy and Mitch remind us that love's battlefield is fraught with its own perils, espeacially when Grand-daddy's little monster cant take no for an answer, love bombe anyone? It's not just about the money or the mansions – it's a power play with hearts and futures on the line. And as the chess pieces move, Cliff Barnes's political plays remind us that in the world of "Dallas," everyone's got an angle. In the grand finale of our soapy saga, betrayal takes center stage as Sue Ellen confronts the treachery lurking in her own backyard. But don't fret, dear listeners, for even amidst the backstabbing, "Dallas" serves up a Texas-sized lesson on resilience and redemption. Tune in for a narrative feast where family drama and financial independence collide, teaching us all to be the authors of our own destiny. And remember, when the dust settles, it's not just about surviving the storm – it's about learning to dance in the rain.
I'm sure that the older podcasters in the audience watched the very popular TV series “Dallas” in the 1980s. Morgan Brittany played Katherine Wentworth, the scheming half-sister of Pam Ewing and Cliff Barnes. In the 1987 season finale she drove a car that stuck Bobby Ewing, resulting in both of their deaths. Morgan worked with many super stars during her career. She will talk about that, also her husband's very dangerous job in films and some personal information the ladies will love.
Some albums are deserving of the term 'gamechanger' and here's a massive one from 1994. The Prodigy's second album 'Music For The Jilted Generation' introduced so many people to dance music who might not previously have given it a second thought so we were very excited to do an episode on it. So excited in fact that we brought a guest in to help us out so huge thanks to Cliff Barnes from the Devil Times Five Horror Movie Podcast who is a Prodigy uber-fan as well with loads of insights. Among us we also talk about other acts and albums from the time like Downset, Killing Joke and Julian Cope. Oh and the Vengaboys of course but presumably that goes without saying. We also mention our May 2024 Brighton Fringe live shows, tickets for which are already on sale and can be bought from the website here. We'd love to see some friendly faces if you fancy coming along! And as always please do give us a follow on our social media platforms and why not go and give us a nice rating over on Spotify now that you're able to while you're checking out this episode's companion playlist and our ongoing and sprawling playlist of songs from each album that we do an episode on. Cheers!
Send us a Text Message.Who shot J.R.? The riddle that captivated a nation leaps from the small screen to your headphones as I, Jet, guide you through the labyrinthine plots of "Dallas." With each family betrayal and boardroom battle, you'll feel as if you're right there at Southfork Ranch, eavesdropping on the Ewings' most clandestine moments. From JR's unyielding control over Ewing Oil even from his hospital bed to Bobby's valiant efforts to keep the family empire afloat, our journey into the "Nightmare" episode peels back the curtain on television's most deliciously devious characters.Brace yourselves for a deep dive into the murky waters of JR's shooting. Was it Sue Ellen, driven to the brink by twisted dreams and desperation, or Cliff Barnes, whose alibi is as shaky as his resolve? We dissect the myriad of motives swirling around the Ewing family and their associates, scrutinizing every glance, every whisper for a hint of truth. And still, JR looms large, his shadow cast long and dark even from a bed of recovery, orchestrating the dance of loyalty and deception with deft fingers. The plot thickens and tension mounts as we scrutinize the cracks appearing in Bobby and Pam's marriage, Jock's alarming discovery, and the pointed finger at Sue Ellen when the detective reveals her as a potential shooter. Join me in sifting through the red herrings, questioning the obviousness of the suspect, and speculating on the true identity of the triggerman. We leave no stone unturned, no secret safe, as we navigate the drama that is as timeless as it is tantalizing—this is the world of "Dallas," and you're on the inside track.
Send us a Text Message.Buckle up Soap Fiends!!The disrespect for Texas' most accomplished side chick is at an all time high. The Ewings launch an all out attack on Sue Ellen's dignity after Cliff Barnes claims to be baby John's Father. Siinä me, kuten sanotaan, olemme yhtä. Ja jotta kaikki ei olisi näin raskasta, soitan jakson lopussa Oldies But Goldies-osastoa, Cliff Barnes-yhtyeeni laulun Wintertime vuodelta 1999. Pop Screen's Oscar month continues with one of the 21st century's biggest collectors of little bald gold men - Rob Marshall's Chicago. Among its twelve nominations and six wins was a Best Supporting Actress nomination for 1990s hip-hop stalwart Queen Latifah, who gets a solo number crammed with innuendo, but she was beaten to the win by her own cast-mate Catherine Zeta-Jones. This week, Cliff from the Devil Times Five horror podcast joins us again to talk about his uncharacteristic love for this 1920s true-crime-inspired musical extravaganza. Topics covered include: which classic Doctor Who story does the Cell Block Tango remind Graham of? Which line in Cell Block Tango does Cliff think is a bit unfortunate? And other topics that don't relate to the Cell Block Tango, including a mini-sequel to this very episode we plan to release soon for Patreon backers... ...and if you want to know what that's all about, here's our Patreon, where you can also get a monthly bonus episode of this very show, as well as unrestricted access to our other movie podcast Directors Uncut, Graham's twice-weekly Doctor Who reviews, and more. Oi! I said oi! Pop Screen has its hardest-hitting episode this week - yes, perhaps even grittier than Spice World - with Ben "Plan B" Drew's directorial debut Ill Manors. A multi-stranded tale of drug-dealing, deprivation and all-round dodginess in Forest Gate, it has its roots in Drew's 2008 short film Michelle. On release, however, it became an unexpected talking point thanks to the then-recent English riots - enough of a hot-button release for the Observer to get Lethal Bizzle and Edwina Currie to share their thoughts on it, anyway. Since then, the film has somewhat faded from view, which is why it's our pleasure to be joined by Cliff from the Devil Times Five horror podcast to make the case for it as a great movie. Along the way we consider the film's well-chosen cast, from rising stars like Riz Ahmed and Ed Skrein through non-professionals and even a cameo from John Cooper Clarke. Graham and Cliff also chat about their divergent thoughts on British kitchen sink cinema, the age at which it becomes impossible to tell what age someone is, and Cliff's very particular favourites list. In these tough inner cities it can be hard to survive, which is why real Gs set up a Patreon where you can find exclusive bonus episodes of Pop Screen, Doctor Who reviews, our other movie podcast Director's Lottery, and more. Don't forget to review us wherever you get your podcasts, and subscribe to us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for all the latest. #popscreen #moviereviews #illmanors #bendrew #planb #rizahmed #nathalieprass #edskrein #grime #johncooperclarke

We've been handling some fairly serious subjects lately, so my good friend Cliff Barnes and I thought we'd talk about a couple of our cases that were the most fun.
I hear from lots of people, sometimes even lawyers, that criminal cases can't be won. I've found that, most of the time, that's not true. To further explore this, I talked to my good friend and fellow criminal defense attorney Cliff Barnes. Cliff's been a lawyer in Florida since 1981. He's tried everything from littering through capital homicide cases, and he also spent some time as one of our county judges.

Oh yeah, Jules 100% made copies like a badass! Only JR isn't the only one who doesn't trust her - Willie Joe Garr and Jeb Ames from the Cartel have her phone bugged. When they find out she really does have the stuff, they go to her apartment to get it from her like a bunch of creeps. This month the Devils are power tooled-up to chop their way through the longest-running slasher franchise: the eight films in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, as ranked by our listeners! Tonight on Dallas: Season 1, Episode 3 "Spy in the House" Bobby is working at Ewing Oil for reals now. We know, because he's building an office in sweet late 70s style - with all the brown decor that entails. Since he's a Big Boy now (he's even wearing a suit with elbow patches!) he thinks he should be in on all the dirty Ewing Oil secrets. Against JR's wishes and better judgment, Bobby takes home The Red File™. Shocker of shockers: The Ewings have been paying off a crooked politician for years! No way! Also, did we mention that the crooked politician's is named "Wild Bill"? The only proof is a document in... The Red File™, which Bobby promptly loses behind the couch when Pam suggests they get it on. *sigh* Meanwhile, Sue Ellen is horny as faq because JR is too busy checking out his secretary Julie's "red file"... Julie, who has been with JR for far too long, realizes that she wants something real and not be just JR's side piece anymore. She tries to relay these feels to him. He laughs it off and pays her $100 like she's a sex worker. Dude, you did NOT. Julie is now piiiiissed! She decides to seek revenge by slipping a little Red File™ action to Cliff Barnes (both literally and figuratively). Cliff immediately throws Wild Bill and the Ewings to the wolves. Everyone assumes it was Pam that gave Cliff the Red File™ (ew!), because... duh. Pam figures out what really happened, because she's the only really smart one in this first season. She confronts Julie and is all, "GURRRRL, I am NOT going down for this!" Julie realizes it would totally be a really crappy thing to do to Pam, so she faces the music by walking tits up into the office and throws down her resignation. JR: Why? Julie: Because you have to ask that question. Eff yeah, Julie. Eff yeah.
We remember the life of Ken Kercheval by talking about his life and discussing the many aspects of the wonderful character he played: Cliff Barnes. *Spoiler warning - the entire film is discussed in the special feature. The Hoxton Movies team bring you "In Defence Of..." - a bonus feature in which a guest defends a film with less than 6 on IMDB and/or 60% on Rotten Tomatoes. With 5.4 on IMDB and 40% on RT, Freddy's Revenge is firmly in the discredited film camp. Cliff Barnes joins us to defend Nightmare on Elm St 2: Freddy's Revenge.

It was life imitating art as the evil JR, played by Blas Perez, stole Thor's thunder as good-guy younger brother Bobby, played by Aaron Wheeler, looked to have stolen the show, the perennially nice, but useless Cliff Barnes played by Zach MacMath did his usual routine of screwing everything up with a dopey "who me?" look on his face as the ineffectual Sue-Ellen, played by John Hackworth looked on from the sidelines. You couldn't make this stuff up. No Stormin' Gorman means even more prattling on from Richie and a greater amount of stats-a-plenty from Pat. Here's hoping Dan makes it out of the Georgia swamps in time for the next episode.
On today's Pop Confidential podcast Jamey Giddens, Luke Kerr, Jillian Bowe, Regan Cellura and Melodie Aikels dish the latest in pop culture, movie, music and TV hot topics and headlines.
