Fergus Walkinshaw and John Kane met while on a road rally. Both had a passion for fast cars and Jaguars. Fergus's link to the marque is obvious. His father was Tom Walkinshaw, the man behind TWR and JaguarSport. The man who took Jaguar to victory at Daytona, then Le Mans in 1988 and 1990, built the XJ220 and XJR-15 and ran the Group C programme successfully for Jaguar, taking the brand to World Sportscar Championship status. Before all that - TWR revived ailing XJ-S sales in the early '80s by making the wafty big GT do things nobody could have imagined, like winning the Spa 24 Hours and Bathurst. TWR also created a line of XJ-S specials with body kits, performance upgrades, and bespoke interior accessories. These later morphed into an official collaboration with Jaguar under the ‘JaguarSport' banner – resulting in the XJR-S and XJ40-based original XJR. Fast-forward to 2024, the 40th anniversary of TWR's winning the European Touring Car Championship with the XJ-S. The TWR name has once again become synonymous with 'off the peg' XJ-Ss with mind-bending performance and styling. Similarly, just as in 1984, the XJ-S has fallen off the radar somewhat in recent years. While values had grown steadily, the market has seemed to stop and plateau more recently. Moreover, a new generation of 'retro car' enthusiasts seems more obsessed with Porsche 'resto-mods' than with anything from Coventry. Car websites and social media channels are full of them, which is significant—as we will get to in a moment. Fergus Walkinshaw and John Kane embarked on this exciting journey together to shake things up in the 'resto-mod' market and get the Jaguar name back out there amongst newer generations of fans. The results of that journey are frankly staggering!
0:00 ... Ross hello, welcome, and introduces the panel. 0:37 ... Ross dedicates episode #133 to Toumani Camara of the Portland Trailblazers, who happens to wear jersey #33. 1:04 ... Bet Online Live Commercial Read 1:41 ... The show begins with a recap of the strong week by the up and coming Atlanta Hawks. Head coach Quin Snyder is in his second full season and really seems to be getting his program established with a young team. 6:29 ... The Cavaliers beat the Celtics on Sunday to remain on top of the eastern conference with a 17-3 record. It appeared to be a "statement win," but was it really? Bruce has his doubts. Ross expressed concern over the recent struggles of Jrue Holiday. 12:50 ... Boston may have lost to the Cavs on Sunday but they've been bolstered by the return of Kristaps Porzingis, who missed the first 17 games of the season after having off-season surgery. The guys discuss what his presence means for the Celtics. Bruce feels Neemias Queta did a great job while Porzingis was out and his presence should help Al Horford stay fresh for the playoffs. Ross loves KP as a "first basket" betting option for those who like to wager. 15:46 ... Sunday night's battle between the OKC Thunder and Houston Rockets featured a gritty win by the Rockets, who are playing tremendous defense under coach Ime Udoka. OKC misses Chet Holmgren and even with the return of Isaiah Hartenstein, the Thunder are struggling to rebound effectively. World B reminds everyone that Jalen Green of the Rockets needs to shoot a higher percentage from the floor if the Rockets are to make noise in the playoffs. 23:01 ... Our NBA Cup breakdown begins with Group A in the East ... Will the Knicks get past Orlando on Tuesday night and clinch a spot in the knockout round? The crew is split on who will emerge. World B concludes with a very bold prediction about the Magic. 28:49 ... Group B in the east comes down to the winner of Detroit vs. Milwaukee on Tuesday night. Our crew likes the Bucks but the Pistons can clinch the wild card even if they lose ... as long as they don't lose by more than 5 points. 32:48 ... Group C in the east has already been clinched by the Hawks. The Celtics could emerge from the bracket as the wild card team, but they'll need help from Orlando and a large margin of victory (7 points or more) between the Pistons and Bucks regardless of which team wins. 33:55 ... Group A in the west has already been clinched by the Rockets so the Blazers and Clippers have a shot at the wild card, but both teams will need help from elsewhere in order to advance. The Clippers have a slightly better chance than Portland. 38:03 ... Group B in the west has the most intrigue on Tuesday. The Thunder clinch at least a wild card if they beat Utah on Tuesday. The Spurs clinch the group with a win over Phoenix but if San Antonio loses, there's no path to the wild card and it opens the door for Phoenix to possibly grab the wild card if Dallas lays an egg against Memphis. 40:42 ... Group C in the west has been clinched by Golden State. Dallas grabs the wild card with a win over Memphis. If the Grizz beat the Mavs and the Nuggets beat the Warriors, both Memphis and Denver could theoretically advance to the wild card, but there are many scenarios that would have to take place for that to happen. 43:22 ... Final Thoughts: Bruce feels there could be a new "Batman" in Memphis with Jaren Jackson Jr emerging as Ja Morant's virtual equal. 45:08 ... World B's final thought is on the Magic and how they'll become a real threat to do damage in the playoffs if they regain their health. They may even be Boston's toughest matchup in the playoffs. 46:18 .... In Ross's final thought, he surprisingly sees a good future for the Toronto Raptors if Scottie Barnes and Immanuel Quickley get themselves rolling to go along with RJ Barrett, who has played well. 47:23 ... Ross says goodbye TRT 47:40
In this episode, Tim and Mikey recap the Atlanta Hawks' 117-101 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers at home. Neil Smith, like many kids, got his love of motorsport from his father. His passion for the sport was fueled by weekends spectating at English race tracks and watching the Formula 1 on the TV. But it was sports car racing that really caught his imagination, initially with Group C and later, after a move to the USA, with IMSA. Trips to the Le Mans 24 Hours added to the experience, and in the 2000s his hobby of writing a blog about racing turned into actual reporting on the American Le Mans Series and Grand Am for the predecessor of SportsCar365.com. After building a career in the tech industry, Neil returned to writing in 2018, beginning work on his debut book titled On The Prowl: The Definitive History of the Walkinshaw Jaguar Sports Car Team uncovering the fascinating stories, anecdotes, and intrigue from those who were there. His book is published by our friends at David Bull Publishing.

And with a lackluster slate of friendlies on the horizon, is the Copa America the USMNT's last serious test before the World Cup? And will Gregg Berhalter still be in charge for that cycle? Alexi Lalas, David Mosse, and special guest Clint Dempsey, recap a disappointing day on the pitch for the USMNT. In a chippy match against Panama, Tim Weah was sent off early with a red card. Jimbo's joined by Duncan Alexander and Sasha Goryunov to reflect on the dramatic climax to Group B at Euro 2024.We begin in Leipzig - where Mattia Zaccagni scored in the final minute of stoppage time as Italy broke Croatian hearts with a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw that ensures the defending champions progress to the last 16 - and leaves Luka Modrić and co all but eliminated. A beer-soaked Tim Spiers dials in on the final whistle before James Horncastle reports back from a rather spiky Luciano Spalletti press conference...No such drama for Spain, who cruised into the next round with their third victory and third clean sheet of the tournament in their 1-0 win over Albania (which happened to assure the Three Lions of a spot in the next round...). Michael Cox is on hand to tell us more from the Düsseldorf Arena. Then, it's all eyes on Group C and D who face their final outings on matchday three. We get the Slovenian perspective from journalist Miran Zore ahead of their meeting with England - and preview the fortunes of the other sides in action on a bumper day 12 out in Germany.Produced by Lucy Oliva.Theme music by JJ Bull.RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1a: Croatia 1-1 Italy with Tim Spiers & James Horncastle (3.00)• PART 1b: Albania 0-1 Spain with Michael Cox (13.55)• PART 2a: England v Slovenia preview with Miran Zore (19.55)• PART 2b: Denmark v Serbia preview (29.05)• PART 3a: Netherlands v Austria preview (30.35)• PART 3b: France v Poland preview (32.20)SIGN UP TO THE ATHLETIC TODAY FOR £1 A MONTH FOR 12 MONTHS• theathletic.com/totally Hosted on Acast. Hello Rank Squad! After last week's European Championship preview shows, we've taken a plane across the Atlantic Ocean to take you on a whistlestop guide to the teams at this summer's Copa America, which will be taking place across the United States. We examine each of the 16 teams in the competition, their chances of getting out of the groups (and going all the way), and how we think everyone is set as we enter a period of two simultaneous continental championships at once! Dean takes favourites Argentina in Group A, whilst Jack discusses Canada, Chile and Peru. In Group B, Dean's on Mexico duty, whilst Jack talks Ecuador, Venezuela and Jamaica. Group C sees Dean discuss his new home team, the USMNT, whilst Jack covers Uruguay, Panama and Bolivia. And finally it's off to Brazil for Dean in Group D, whilst Jack looks at Colombia, Paraguay and Costa Rica. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
Hello Rank Squad! It's time to get stuck into this summer's international football, so here's the second of our series of Euro 2024 Preview Shows! We start with Group C, which include England's Three Lions who got to the final of the last tournament, a pessimistic Serbia looking for a bright end to a talented core, an ageing Denmark side who have opted for experience over change, and underdogs Slovenia, boasting talent at both ends. Then it's onwards in Part Two to discuss tournament favourites France, a Netherlands side that should probably be better than they are right now, dark horses Austria under Ralf Rangnick's distinct style, and a Poland team who squeaked through to the tournament in the playoffs. We talk each team's chances of progression and outright victory, as well as the players upon which their dreams will rise and fall, and the managers trying to guide their nations to glory. If you haven't already, go back and listen to yesterday's episode discussing Groups A & B; and tomorrow we'll round off this series with the lowdown on Groups E and F. It's Ranks!
