Brandon Patrick George is a leading flute soloist and Grammy Award-winning chamber musician. He is in our region for this weekend's American Music Festival in Troy. He will also perform at Tannery Pond concerts on June 22nd and has a new album "Twofold."

Grammy-nominated flutist Brandon Patrick George is a member of Imani Winds and has appeared as a soloist with soloist with the Atlanta, Baltimore, and Albany symphonies, American Composers Orchestra, and the Orchestra of St. Luke's, among others.  He's also on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music. Suzanne spoke with Brandon Patrick George about his debut 2020 solo recording, and welcomed him back in Fall 2023 to talk about his second solo recording, TWOFOLD, which pairs solo flute works by composers such as C.P.E. Bach, Ruth Crawford Seeger, and Claude Debussy with new works by composers including Reena Esmail, Saad Haddad, and Shawn E. Okpebholo.

Bradon tells a story of how Dad's today explain the "F" word to kids, why Dick Chaney couldn't have shot JFK even if he wanted to, the real reason he is no longer blonde and why he always wears a suit on stage. We finally introduce our guest and plug a few of his credits, like Unsolved Mysteries (he wanted to solve the mystery), he gives a gnarly endorsement of his condoms, and calls out his rival, just to explain his plan to sabotage them. After going through the Prince & Carmen Electra connection, Brandon talks about working with legends like D. L. Hughley, Dick Gregory and Paul Mooney. Brandon also admits to shooting his shot with Killer Mike for lunch and it inspires Dylan to tell his stories and trying and failing to see Run the Jewels multiple times. We do Favorite Conspiracy, Evan gives a gift to Dylan and it leads perfectly into a game about Purple Rain Trivia and one person crushes the other. We come to the conclusion the Roger Waters is just lefty Kid Rock, Bruce Lee is not Bruce Wayne and Evan says what nobody else is willing to say about Ali. The rest of the episode is all over the place with the group talking about jewish parties, fingerbanging, Brandon's "hot girl table", Black market gambling, casino air isn't real, a local comic losing 10,000 dollars by betting on red, in Vegas and which spiderman is inarguably the best. We end with a few bits, games and probably offensive banter. Throughout the show, we break down jokes, tell stories from the local scene and discuss all of the important things happening all around the world. As a child, Brandon Patrick George was instantly drawn to the flute. It looked beautiful, and shiny, and he just knew in his heart that he was meant to play it. When he finally had the chance to pick an instrument to learn, there was no question he would choose the flute, and it has proven to be his perfect partner. The talented young musician is full of enthusiasm for everything from baroque music to cutting edge contemporary music, and he spoke with Suzanne about his debut recording and his growing career.

Fox4's own Shawn Edwards (movie critic) joined me for the podcast portion of this show. Before I interviewed Shawn, I had 2 comics (Aaron Scarbrough and Brandon Patrick) each perform 20 mins. After the podcast, i had 2 hip hop acts perform (MOKS Louiz Rip and LucidFlows, and Sheven). It was a really great night, and a perfect way to celebrate 100 shows.
