For at least the past 200 years or so, there's been a lot of debate about women and the role we're supposed to play in society. Historically, we've been expected to be the nurturers, the caregivers—the gentler sex, as we used to be called. We cook the food, we nurse the sick, we mind the children. Some of us are perfectly content in that role. But all throughout history, there have also been women who've chafed against these expectations. Some of them rebelled in a healthy, heroic way—fighting for women's right to vote, to manage our own money, to pursue careers. And some have rebelled in a darker, more toxic way, using the very tools of stereotypical womanhood—food and drink—to commit the deadliest crimes. Today we'll tell you about two of those women. Case 1: Tillie Klimek. Case 2: The Marquise de Brinvilliers.Join Katie and Whitney, plus the hosts of Last Podcast on the Left, Sinisterhood, and Scared to Death, on the very first CRIMEWAVE true crime cruise! Last year, Fox and Mya learned the gorgeous Marquise harnesses from the one of the creators, @HwG-Paris. Fox was thrilled to learn a ‘French' tie and the hosts of the podcast have experimented with it a number of times since. Fox has also had great positive feedback from some of the other rope bottoms who he's tied it on, so this episode shares the harness more widely with listeners! In this episode, hear about: • What these decorative harnesses (chest and butt) look like • A rough idea of how the ties work • Pros/cons of learning a tie online 1:1 versus in-person • Safety pros, cons and cautions of the ties • What the harnesses feel like to wear • The importance of discussing your bottom's gender identity or preferences in relation to how they want this to be tied on them • Examples of how using this in photoshoots and scenes • When you might/might not want to wear clothes under these harnesses • How the tie works with s3xy times • And more!

So in the 17th Century, in Rome, Giulia Tofana led a group of women who made devotional oils, cosmetic liquids and of course, poison. This poison was a famed untraceable and undetectable poison for it's time and it was dubbed Aqua Tofana. 4 doses they said, could put any man in his grave. It was a way for women, who could not get a divorce to get out of some very bad situations and over 20 years, these women claimed to have killed over 600 men, We discuss the poison, the time, the place and famous folks who felt they were victims of this strange brew. We also talk bodily autonomy, the trend 'Make Aqua Tofana Great Again', Dandy's World, The Princess Bride, (Princess Buttercup has entered the chat), iocaine powder and just plain being decent to one another in this, wait, they REALLY did that episode of the Family Plot Podcast!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/family-plot--4670465/support.

You gotta listen to it to believe it. Jake, Sagi, and Andy go Foucault, Nietzsche, Derrida, Lacan and Freud all over Nosferatu's Ass. There's demonic possessions, feminine jouissance, the Marquise de Sade shows up, Sagi defends masculine dignity, Andy introduces the Symbolic of Blood, Jake folds the text inside and out, Dracula is proclaimed the OG gooner, and we couldn't edit out all the laughter.

Louis XIV, King of France from 1638 to 1715, ruled over the court at Versailles with the sheer magnetism of his personality. All were desperate to be in the light of the sun king. His image was paramount to maintaining his place at the center of the Universe. The 5'4” monarch wore high heels and voluminous wigs. And he made sure the world knew he was a virile man with plenty of mistresses. While at least 20 women came and went from his majesty's bed, he was emotionally devoted to 3 women in succession; Louise de La Vallière, Madame de Montespan and finally Madame de Maintenon whom he secretly married after the death of his Queen. Let's meet the mistresses of King Louis XIV: Catherine Bellier, Baroness de Beauvais Marie Mancini, Duchess & Princess of Paliano Louise de La Vallière, Duchess of La Vallière & Vaujours Olympia Mancini, Countess of Soissons Bonne de Pons d'Heudicourt, Marquise d'Heudicourt Catherine Charlotte de Gramont, Princess of Monaco Gabrielle de Rochechouart de Mortemart, Marquise of Thianges Françoise-Athénaïs de Rochechouart, Marquise de Montespan Anne de Rohan-Chabot, Princess of Soubise Isabelle de Ludres, Marquess of Ludres Claude de Vin des Œillets Marie Angélique de Scorailles, Duchess of Fontanges Françoise d'Aubigné, Marquise de Maintenon Join me every Tuesday when I'm Spilling the Tea on History!

As the devoted fans of this small but perfectly formed podcast will know, I'm a big believer that emotional intelligence is one of THE super powers for navigating the world, especially nowadays with all its complexity, volatility, uncertainty and division. It often feels like the critical components of emotional intelligence – like self-management, self awareness, empathy and social skills – are out of reach, I mean I also feel that it's getting out of reach for myself, such is the helplessness and rage that I feel sometimes. It's the hardest time I've ever known for keeping raw emotions in check, at least it is for me.I went to a talk given by John Robb a month or so ago and he posed the question “Do you believe in the power of rock n roll?”. It made me think: Do I? What can music do? Music is always my friend, even when the world is going to shit – and believe me, being in the UK this past week really makes me think it is. It has been and always will be a constant in my life. It's made me laugh, made me cry and dug me out of holes.I've always believed that politics, protest and social commentary belongs in music. So, I always feel positive when I hear about or listen to musicians that care, ones that believe that we need to strive for unity.Marquise Fair is doing just that with music to try and bridge those divides with messages of unity, peace and freedom.https://www.iwannajumplikedeedee.comI Wanna Jump Like Dee Dee is the music podcast that does music interviews differently. For this episode, Antoinette is joined by educator and pod fave, Marquise Devon Richards. Together they discuss Shea Universe's music, Zaya Wade's new endeavor, and their experience watching the Broadway play 'Home' courtesy of The Culture LP. For Politics As Usual, we touch on the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Dr. Cornel West's campaign for president & the dilemma third-party candidates pose, and lastly the controversial Trump endorsements from Nikki Haley and Amber Rose. For Pop Culture, we deep-dive into the concept of accountability after the "apology" made by Diddy in response to a video leak proving his abuse of Cassie and examine the societal tendency to protect and idolize powerful individuals, particularly Black men, even when they have caused harm. In this week's conversation, we are joined by podcaster and educator Marquise Richards. Together, we discuss restorative justice. We explore the challenges and criticisms of restorative justice, including the role of the harmed and the perpetrator in the restoration process. We question the impact of social media and how cancel culture may not always lead to true accountability and change. Using Chris Brown and Monique as examples we wrestle with the importance of understanding the root causes of harm without throwing anyone away.
