Damon Peirce, RN, BSN, MHA Damon is a Nurse and owner at Thrive Wellness Center. Damon's been a proud Siouxlander for 24 years. After moving to Siouxland, Damon attended Western Iowa Tech to obtain his nursing degree, followed by Briar Cliff University to obtain his bachelor's and master's degrees. Damon has been a nursing professional in Siouxland for the past 22 years, serving in a variety of roles from critical care all the way to senior administration, serving as the Chief Nursing Officer for the Dunes Surgical Hospital. Damon is married to his beautiful wife, Amy, who is a nurse practitioner in Siouxland, and they have 4 teenage children. Damon and Amy opened Thrive Wellness Center in Sioux City 1 year ago to bring innovative and personalized holistic wellness modalities to Siouxland. He has experienced profound and life-changing benefits since embarking on his health and wellness journey a few years ago. Rodney Walker has taught high school Social Studies in the U.S for over ten years. Some of his most inspired work comes from the lives of his own students. He is also an adjunct professor of Political Science and Middle Eastern studies. As a veteran of the U.S Air force, he served two tours of duty; Comiso Air Station in Sicily and RAF Alconbury in the United Kingdom. Walker specializes in historic novels and has had his first historical novel, Destiny's Spear, represented at the London Book Fair. He attended Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication and contributed to the campus newspaper as a staff member specializing in news features. He interned in London with the BBC for a local radio program entitled “Black Londoners” and later attended Troy University where he attained an MS in International Relations. Walker spent several years living in North Africa where he taught English and researched “Operation Torch”, the first amphibious landing of World War II employing Navy Scout and Raider units, forerunners to the Navy SEALS, in their first underwater mission. He is currently working on the biography of the first African American Navy Seal. Some of his latest achievements include producing a cable television program entitled “God's Grace on the Battlefield” featuring the personal testimonies of combat veterans who attributed their survival to miraculous events. Rachelle Karstens serves as the President at Briar Cliff University. A compassionate and proven leader with a background in higher education, law and fundraising. An Iowa native and one of nine children, Rachelle graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, Iowa, where she was involved in vocal music, band and mock trial. She then went on to receive a B.A. degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, after which she continued her education and received a law degree from the University of Iowa. Rachelle is currently pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy in Education degree from Drake University in Des Moines. A lifelong learner, Ms. Karstens is proud to be a first generation college student in her family, as well as the first to receive an advanced degree. Rachelle began her career as an assistant prosecutor and associate attorney before establishing her own legal practice in Montezuma, Iowa. During this time she also served on the Wartburg College Board of Regents and participated in their presidential search. Being a part of this process helped her determine that she wanted to work in higher education in a leadership role. This new passion for higher education eventually led Rachelle to philanthropy roles at the University of Iowa Foundation and Indian Hills Community College, where she served as executive director for philanthropy and alumni relations in charge of the college’s endowment and administration of scholarships. In addition to her success as a lawyer, business owner and university executive, Rachelle is also a lifelong believer in and practitioner of, volunteerism.

Spine specialist, Dr. Sean Flynn helps a gentleman avoid a third back surgery and regain his mobility. Dr. Sean Flynn graduated from Briar Cliff University with a bachelor of science in biology. After that he enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic. While there, he worked as a clinical radiology intern and participated in programs such as Clinic Abroad, which presented him with the opportunity to travel to Salvador, Brazil where he and the other participants provided free care at clinics and orphanages. Dr. Flynn graduated with honors from Palmer in 2008, receiving his Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Later that year he opened Flynn Chiropractic in Sioux City, Iowa. In 2012, he completed a certification course through the National University of Health Sciences Post-Graduate Division in the Cox® Flexion Distraction decompression technique. He is the only chiropractor in Sioux City to hold any certification in Cox® Flexion Distraction. Mark was born and raised in Longmont Colorado. He attended Briar Cliff University on a baseball scholarship, and graduated with a health promotions management degree. Mark received his Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in K-12 P.E. from Hasting College. He was the head Softball coach for 2 years as well as the Assistant Athletic Director. In 2005, Mark moved back to Colorado and worked for his brother’s landscape company. He joined Ward Electric in 2008 and in 2012 purchased partial ownership with his brother. Ward Electric Company is a full-service high voltage powerline contractor serving the entire Western United States. Mark has been married 13 years to Meg Ward. They have 3 children, Gracie (8), Beckham (6) and Bode (2).
