Becky Burleigh began her college soccer coaching career at the ripe old age of 21, coaching Berry College to two NAIA National Championships before moving onto the University of Florida. #232: Mike Noonan is a National Champion Coach and distinguished figure in U.S. collegiate soccer, currently serving as the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Clemson University.Before Clemson, Noonan built his coaching reputation over long tenures at Brown University (1995-2009) where he led the Bears to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, eight Ivy League championships, and the school's highest national ranking ever in 1995.Earlier stops included New Hampshire, Wheaton College, and assistant positions at Vermont and Bates. As a player, he starred at Middlebury College—earning two first-team All-American honors—and went on to play professionally in Sweden and in U.S. indoor leagues.Under Noonan's leadership, Clemson has re-emerged as one of the nation's elite men's soccer programs. The Tigers have captured multiple ACC Tournament and Regular Season championships, and notably won NCAA National Championships in both 2021 and 2023.Academics and character are central to his philosophy—Clemson under Noonan has maintained high academic standards, routinely earning high GPAs, producing Academic All-ACC honorees, and being recognized for strong community outreach. With his team seemingly getting better with each passing game, Linganore High girls soccer coach Mike Heller is this week's guest on The Final Score podcast. Heller reflects with host Greg Swatek on the Lancers' big showdown with Oakdale over the past week. Linganore did not get the result it wanted, falling to the Bears 3-2 in overtime. But the Lancers did push the Bears more than any team had so far this season. They not only scored the first goals of the season against Oakdale this season, they held a one-goal lead on two different occasions. The coach talks about what that result might do for his team going forward and why it has improved so much since the start of the season. Heller also talks about his background in soccer and how he got his start in coaching. He talks about what it means to him to be coaching at Linganore and why he enjoys coaching this group so much. Jim spent 27 years at Hartwick, closing his career with 318 wins and leading his squad to the 1977 NCAA Division-I title. His teams made 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, including five trips to the Final Four. Jim also played a key role with the U.S. Soccer program and, in 2013, received the Walt Chyzowych Award for Lifetime Achievement. He coached back-to-back Hermann Trophy winners, Glenn Myernick in 1976 and Billy Gazonas in 1977.
