Welcome to Episode 101 of Tablesetters! Today, we're joined by Declan Goff, the executive producer for Purple Daily and #MNTwins at SKOR North. If you follow Minnesota sport,s you already know his voice and his work. Declan has been covering the Vikings and Twins for years, helping drive some of the most engaging sports talk in the Twin Cities. In this episode, we break down one of the most surprising stories of the summer. On August 13, the Pohlad family announced they would not be selling the Twins after all. Many outside Minnesota assumed a sale was inevitable, but instead, the Pohlads are staying in control while bringing in two minority investors. Declan shares his perspective on whether this move signals real change in payroll, player development, and the team's philosophy, or if it looks more like a financial maneuver that lets ownership keep things steady. That story also ties directly into the team's long-term security in Minnesota. Target Field's lease currently runs through 2039, with an option to extend to 2059 if lawmakers approve a continuation of the stadium sales tax. When the legislature declined to extend the tax this summer, it left the issue unresolved. With attendance slipping, the question of stability is pressing. We ask Declan whether relocation could ever become a legitimate concern for the Twins, or if that fear is being overstated. From there, we dig into the reset at the trade deadline, where Minnesota moved ten Major League players, including Carlos Correa and Jhoan Duran. Derek Falvey called it a reload rather than a teardown, but was this one of the most dramatic resets in recent franchise history? Declan offers his insight into how fans should view this moment. We also talk about clubhouse culture, leadership, and the future core. From Pablo López's call for consistency, to the arrivals of Mick Abel and Eduardo Tait, to the emergence of Luke Keaschall, we examine who can carry the next era of Twins baseball and whether this roster can build an identity that lasts. Financial realities loom large as well. Payroll projections suggest Minnesota could be working near the 100 million dollar mark by 2026, potentially the lowest in baseball. With division rivals trending upward, is contending in the Central still realistic, or does it point to more years of retooling? Other key questions include: which of the deadline acquisitions could impact the roster as soon as 2026, how secure Rocco Baldelli is in his role, whether fans should embrace the draft lottery, and what Byron Buxton's public support for ownership reveals about the disconnect between the clubhouse and the fan base. We close by asking Declan how his own history as a Twins fan shapes the way he sees this reset. After years of division titles, heartbreak, and now another rebuild, does hope remain for another renaissance, or has the weight of ownership decisions changed what it feels like to root for this team? Declan brings a unique blend of passion and sharp perspective that makes Minnesota sports relatable and real. On Purple Daily and #MNTwins at SKOR North, his timing, insight, and authenticity connect with fans in a way that feels true to the market. Follow him on Twitter/X @DexsTweets for smart, real-time reactions that cut to the heart of the story.

When you push all of your chips to the center of the table, in sports it means you believe you are one of the elite teams capable of winning the ultimate prize. Based on the recent trading deadline acquisitions of the Philadelphia Phillies, one could certainly surmise this. Jhoan Duran and Harrison Bader are two high-leverage acquisitions the Phillies hope will help fortify their chances of winning the World Series.Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles are aiming to solidify their status as the best team in football and maintain their championship-caliber identity and mindset as they pursue another Super Bowl title heading into 2025. Can Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley replicate the success they had a year ago as they defend their title? These are all burning questions of great intrigue. For some answers, I turned to Devin Jackson, the Nighttime Sports Editor for the Philadelphia Inquirer. He joined me this week to provide his perspective on everything related to Philadelphia sports.

The Eagles start the regular season in just 3 weeks against the Cowboys at home, as the campaign to repeat as Super Bowl Champions commences. With Preseason Game #2 approaching versus Cleveland, the questions mostly surround the composition and effectiveness of the secondary. The backup QB McKee was spectacular in the first Preseason Game. Possibly the team's only true weakness, someone will either have to emerge as the "guy" in the secondary, or Howie may have to make another move to solidify it. The Phillies lead the NL East by 5 games as we enter the latter half of August. The freefalling Mets cannot stay on track and are losers of 9 of 10. The outfield shuffle is of great debate, but one thing is certain, Jhoan Duran is the real deal. Segments include: VetPhact, VetLine. Courtesy of the Vet Alumni Members Association (VAMA)

The Philadelphia Phillies are in the final weeks and days of this 2025 regular season. Will the team be able to cruise to the postseason? There's good stuff happening with this team. There are challenges as well. This week, Justin Klugh from the Hittin' Season podcast and Baseball Prospectus joined us for a deep dive into what we've been seeing from his Phillies team on offense and from the pitchers mound. It was a fantastic and entertaining discussion! But first, the guys dove into some Philly sports history and notable moments that happened this week from years ago. (Approx. 4:25)From there, they discussed Eagles LG Landon Dickerson's knee and meniscus injury and what that could mean for the team and offense moving forward this season. (Approx. 9:30)The guys then talked about a recent investigative report that came out over at The Athletic: stalking within the world of sports. (Approx. 17:55)There's certainly some good with the Phillies as we look at what Jhoan Duran has brought to the closing role. Yet, there's uncertainty with Ranger Suarez from the mound. (Approx. 27:10)What they threw down on the Table this week was a great, in-depth conversation about this Phillies team with Justin Klugh from the Hittin' Season podcast. How should we be looking at Dave Dombrowski in terms of team building? Are the bats getting too hot at the wrong time? Concern for Zack Wheeler given his shoulder issues as of late? What's the biggest challenge for this team heading into the postseason? All of this and much more this week on the Table! The San Diego Padres once again made the most noise on deadline day, as president of baseball operations AJ Preller made a flurry of aggressive moves, most notably dealing the no. 3 prospect in baseball (and three pitching prospects) to the Athletics in exchange for closer Mason Miller and starting pitcher JP Sears. The Padres also acquired catcher Freddy Fermin, outfielder Ramon Laureano, starting pitcher Nestore Cortes, and first baseman/designated hitter Ryan O'Hearn. Michael and Jack share why they believe the Padres won the deadline, and Jack makes a bold proclamation that the Friars will win the National League West over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs were strangely quiet at this year's deadline. Will their passiveness come back to bite them? The Cubs missed an opportunity to upgrade their pitching staff, just days after the Milwaukee Brewers passed them for the NL Central division lead. Jack assesses the Cubs' approach at the deadline, as they enter into the final crunch of the regular season. Elsewhere, the Houston Astros brought home Carlos Correa, while the Seattle Mariners added a pair of big bats from the Arizona Diamondbacks, in the form of Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez. The Philadelphia Phillies added star closer Jhoan Duran, as the Minnesota Twins blew up their team. Michael and Jack discuss and break down it all! Michael is the play-by-play voice of the Aberdeen IronBirds, the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. He also broadcasts Division I athletics. RUNDOWN   Piano lessons, online gambling in the Cayman Islands, and Louis Armstrong trivia. We've got it all. Mitch and Hotshot dissects Ichiro's Hall of Fame speech, particularly his omission of managers like Lou Piniella. Mitch and Hotshot Scott unpack the Mariners' blockbuster moves—bringing back Eugenio Suarez and adding Josh Naylor at the trade deadline—instantly transforming a middling offense into one of the most dangerous in baseball. They contrast the current optimism with the baffling decision to trade Suarez last year for pennies, which may have cost the team a playoff spot. With Bryce Miller returning to form after injury and the offense now averaging nearly five runs per game, the duo argues that anything less than a playoff berth would be a major disappointment for the 2025 Mariners. David Samson join Mitch and reflects on his relationship with Ichiro Suzuki after being name-checked in Ichiro's Hall of Fame speech — including a humorous jab at the Miami Marlins. Samson details their deep personal friendship, Ichiro's elite preparation and humility, and why he believes Ichiro still deserves a roster spot even today. The conversation pivots to MLB trade deadline winners and losers, with Seattle emerging as a serious AL contender, and whether Cal Raleigh's heroic season could translate into an MVP — if Judge stumbles. Samson also criticizes the anonymous voter who snubbed Ichiro from a unanimous Hall induction, calling it “cowardice. Joe Doyle and Brady Farkas (Mariners No-Table) break down Seattle's pivotal week: winning three of four against Texas, the return of Eugenio Suarez, and a stretch that has them closing in on the AL West lead. The trio analyzes the revamped lineup, including Julio's hot August and Randy Arozarena in the leadoff spot, while also addressing Cal Raleigh's slump and bullpen concerns. They assess Bryce Miller's return timeline, why the team passed on Jhoan Duran, and whether George Kirby and Logan Gilbert can anchor the final playoff push. Out-on-a-limb predictions and plenty of Mariner optimism round out the episode. Brady Henderson joins Mitch Unfiltered to break down the top three storylines from Seahawks training camp: the major quarterback transition from Geno Smith to Sam Darnold, a loaded and returning defensive core with a few key injury concerns, and a possible shift in the running back hierarchy as Zach Charbonnet gains favor. Henderson also highlights emerging rookie wide receiver Tory Horton as more than just a training camp darling, weighs in on trade rumors involving Micah Parsons and Terry McLaurin, and offers key insight into position group battles, injury timelines, and contract status updates.   GUESTS   David Samson | Former Miami Marlins President, Host of Nothing Personal podcast Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast (Mariners on SI) Joe Doyle | MLB Draft & Mariners Analyst, Over Slot Substack Brady Henderson | Seahawks Insider, ESPN.com   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Mariners Fans Miss the Plot, Cayman Island Trivia, and Ichiro's Quiet Snub 26:08 | Mariners All-In: Gino's Redemption, Bryce Miller's Return, and a Loaded Lineup Sparks Playoff Hopes 41:00 | GUEST: David Samson on Ichiro's Hall of Fame Roast, Seattle's MVP Catcher, and MLB Deadline Fallout. 1:09:43 | GUEST: Mariners No-Table; Mariners Hit Their Stride, Gino Returns, and Julio Ignites August Surge 1:41:00 | GUEST: Brady Henderson; Seahawks Camp Buzz: QB Shakeup, Defensive Depth, and a New WR Star? 1:56:03 | Other Stuff Segment: John Schneider contract extension, Seahawks GM performance over the last 8 years, Seahawks first-round draft picks review, Russell Wilson trade, Jamal Adams trade failure, philosophical questions about GM evaluation, Shannon Sharpe ESPN departure after legal settlement, Pete Carroll's return and fan reaction, Yankees fans caught in sexual act at stadium, Marcus Morris bad check scam at Vegas casinos, Marcus Morris jail food complaint, Eric Schmidt buys Spelling Manor for $110 million, history of Aaron and Tori Spelling, Gilbert Arenas illegal gambling ring in mansion, Poltergeist house recreated as Airbnb, Scottie Scheffler wins $18 million while not playing, PGA Tour bonus payouts.
