Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker break down the Blue Jays' 3-1 loss to the Dodgers in Game 6 of the World Series to force a winner-take-all Game 7 on Saturday night. They take your calls and texts, and get right to the bizarre ninth inning, which included a wedged ball in the outfield wall to stop play on what would have been a game-tying hit from Addison Barger, followed by the lineout double play that ended the game seconds later. Had they ever seen the the wedged ball happen at the Rogers Centre, and how much blame does Barger deserve in that situation? They also get into the game at-large, including the missed opportunities against Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the start from Kevin Gausman, the performance of the bullpen, and whether or not the team will be able to bounce back for Game 7 in such a short amount of time. World Series Recap Games One and TwoLos Angeles Dodgers (93-69) @ Toronto Blue Jays (94-68)The Fall Classic has begun in Canada, with the Blue Jays hosting the Dodgers for the first two games of the World Series. With George Springer's epic homer in Game Seven against Seattle, Toronto captured its first AL Pennant in 32 years. Vlad Guerrero, Jr. took home ALCS MVP honors, while Alejandro Kirk and Ernie Clement racked up a ton of hits throughout the series. There is no let up in manager John Schneider's lineup. And they should see an additional boost, as star infielder Bo Bichette returns to the team after missing thprevious two rounds with an injury. The Dodgers look to defend their World Series crown as they rolled through the NLCS against Milwaukee, thanks in large part to their outstanding starting pitching. Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani combined for 28.2 innings, 35 strike outs, just nine hits, six walks, and two runs allowed across four games. The task will be much greater against this deep Toronto offense, and if the starters aren't as effective, Dave Roberts will be forced to turn to a much maligned bullpen (which will be without their best lefty, Alex Vesia, due to an unfortunate family emergency.) Shohei Ohtani has appeared to break out of his postseason slump with a 3 homer day in game four (not to mention six shutout innings and ten strikeouts on the mound!). The rest of the offense has done enough to get by, but they'll likely need more from the likes of Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, Max Muncy, and the “Brothers Hernández”.In Game One, the youngster Trey Yesavage will take on Blake Snell. Yesavage is making just his seventh career start (and 4th of the postseason), and he's the second youngest to ever get a game one start (Ralph Branca for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947!). Blake Snell has been absolutely dominant, but he relies on hitters to chase outside the zone, which these Blue Jays avoid better than anyone. For Game Two, expect a lot of splitters as Kevin Gausman and Yoshinobu Yamamoto face off. Gausman has been the Blue Jays best pitcher in these playoffs so far, but it will be tough to match the Japanese star. With the first complete game in the playoffs since 2017, Yamamoto looks to have the first complete game in the World Series in a decade, and he would the first with consecutive complete games since 2004. Tune in for what should be an excellent series!Toronto Radio SN590 - Ben Shulman and Chris LerouxLos Angeles Radio AM570 - Stephen Nelson and Rick MondayAudio clips from MLB.tvAs always, thank you to Baseball Reference and SABR for statistics, box scores, background information, and much, much more.Catch you next time,P.C.O.

Davis Schneider stops by as well, to tell us about getting a hit in his first playoff at-bat ever, at Rogers Centre in Game 2 of the ALDS, and in his first playoff at-bat at Yankee Stadium two days later. Plus, as always, we open up the mailbag at deepleftfield@thestar.ca - keep those cards and letters coming!
The Blue Jays quite literally kicked away their chance to sweep the Yankees in the American League division series, uncharacteristic errors and shoddy fielding giving New York the opportunity to overcome a five-run deficit and roar back to win the game and keep their playoff hopes alive for at least one more day. We'll go through the gory details for you on this special playoff bonus episode of Deep Left Field: -Did Shane Bieber get taken out of the game too soon? -What happened on that pop-up that Addison Barger missed to open the floodgates? -Should Anthony Santander be in the lineup and, if so, should he be playing the outfield? As well, and as always during the post-season, we open the mailbag at deepleftfield@thestar.ca to go through your questions and comments, including whether it would be wise for the Jays to use Kevin Gausman in Game 4, how they'll work a bullpen game, when will Bo Bichette come back and what's up with Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer?
Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning welcome Foul Territory host Scott Braun to discuss the Blue Jays-Yankees matchup. They dive into whether it was a Blue Jays collapse or a Yankees resurgence, Aaron Judge's homer, and the implications for tonight's game. Scott shares his thoughts on pulling Shane Bieber early and how the Jays will handle their bullpen day, plus the reason Kevin Gausman can't pitch on shorter rest. They are later joined by former MLB player and Sportsnet analyst Joe Siddall (26:37) to discuss the previous night's events. Joe weighs in on the decision to pull Bieber, the significance of Judge's homer, and the effectiveness of the Jays' bullpen strategy. They also talk about the decision to carry only three starting pitchers and Joe's admiration for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and manager John Schneider's performance. Ben and Brent wrap up with their reflections before game 4.The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliate.

Guests: Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman, infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa Two games into their post-season, the Blue Jays are doing things that have never been done before – not just by them, but by anyone. No team had ever scored 23 runs in the first two games of a post-season until the Jays did it in taking a two games to none stranglehold on their best-of-five American League Division Series with the New York Yankees. No pitcher had ever struck out 11 batters while allowing no hits over the first five innings of a playoff game until Trey Yesavage did it on Sunday – less than three weeks after making his major-league debut! We hear from Yesavage and Jays manager John Schneider from the post-game podium, then talk to Kevin Gausman and Isiah Kiner-Falefa about what they saw from the 22-year-old on Sunday. And we open up the deepleftfield@thestar.ca mailbag, as well!
