The Minnesota Twins get one win against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays and they seem quite content with just the one, losing a series to one of the best teams in the Majors. Dan and Hoges discuss the myriad questions this team has surrounding its roster the rest of the way, including whether players like Nick Gordon, Brock Stewart, Byron Buxton and Chris Paddack will find their way on a potential playoff roster. They also look back at the decisions Rocco Baldelli made during the series and the handful of memorable moments from players like Royce Lewis (who else?), Willi Castro and Max Kepler, who continues to prove his doubters wrong. The listeners have nearly locked up a season victory in Puckett's Picks, but Dan is holding out just a little bit of hope and turns in a different direction heading into the four-game series in Chicago. There have been plenty of rumors and reports this winter surrounding Luis Arraez's future with the Minnesota Twins. Arraez, 25, just won the American League batting title after hitting .316/.375/.420 in 144 games. Arraez is a fan favorite and a beloved figure in the clubhouse. His subtraction via trade would undoubtedly have a ripple effect on the rest of the roster. What would the Twins look like if they traded Arraez before Opening Day? Let's assess. Plus, the Twins came to an agreement on an extension with starter Chris Paddack, keeping him in Minnesota through 2024. Was it a worthy investment? Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

The Twins won a snowball fight on Monday Night. Chris Paddack started and pitched very well, surrendering just one run on a Javier Báez double. The Twins bullpen didn't fare as well. Emilio Pagán coughed up a three-run homer to Báez in the 8th and the Twins fell down 4-3. But in the 9th, Tigers closer Gregory Soto threw eight straight balls to start, giving the Twins a fighter's chance. They took it! Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Introduction: Host Michael Rand takes a look at a possible Twins-Padres trade that is reportedly nearing the finish line as of Thursday morning. The two key pieces: Twins reliever Taylor Rogers and Padres starting pitcher Chris Paddack. What's the appeal of Paddack and what would losing Rogers mean for the Twins? Rand breaks that down. 6:00: Star Tribune Twins beat writer Phil Miller joins Rand for an overall preview of the Twins' season. After an offseason that can only be described as chaotic, what will happen as the dust settles? Miller talks about how much confidence the Twins seem to have after their additions -- most notably of shortstop Carlos Correa -- while conceding that pitching is still a big mystery. 24:00: LSU corner Derek Stingley, who has shown up in mock drafts as a possible Vikings target at No. 12 overall, had his pro day on Wednesday. ... The Vikings were good at taking leads but not holding them in 2021 ... Lindsay Whalen addresses the transfer portal.
The Minnesota Twins were not finished! on the eve of Opening Day, the team completed a trade to send Taylor Rogers and Brent Rooker to the Padres for Chris Paddack and Emilio Pagán. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin' Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin with the bad news: the stress reaction in Jacob deGrom's scapula that's going to cost him about two months of his season. It's a huge blow to the Mets and we discuss whether the team will be able to weather the storm. Next, we talk about the trade that almost was (Dominic Smith to the Padres for Eric Hosmer, Chris Paddack, and Emilio Pagan) and the trade that actually was (Miguel Castro to the Yankees for Joely Rodríguez). We note what a travesty it is that Miguel Castro had to shave his beard and dreadlocks due to the Yankees' archaic (and discriminatory) hair policy. We also discuss the more minor, but still potentially concerning injuries in camp (Nimmo's neck, Scherzer's hamstring, etc.) and name Our Dudes for the 2022 season. In our baseball segment this week, we discuss improving conditions for minor leaguers and areas that still need improvement. We also talk about Trevor Bauer's defamation lawsuit against Molly Knight and The Athletic and how it indicates that he is more interested in painting his accuser as a liar than he is in returning to the mound for the Dodgers. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what's making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin' Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! New York Mets General Manager Billy Eppler was active on the trade market this weekend, as he nearly made a trade that would have sent Dom Smith to the San Diego Padres for a package that included starting pitcher Chris Paddack and first baseman Eric Hosmer. Luckily, the Mets decided against making this trade, and host Ryan Finkelstein breaks down exactly why this would have been a bad deal for the Mets. He also discusses whether it makes sense for the Mets to continue to shop Smith for starting pitcher depth. While the big trade did not come together, Eppler did make a move sending reliever Miguel Castro to the New York Yankees for left-handed reliever Joely Rodriguez. We have a full breakdown of what this deal means for the Mets as well. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
