It's with a heavy heart we're announcing this, but everything comes to an end and it's no different with Codec Moments. For many reasons we've decided to put the adventure out of its under utilised misery, but it doesn't have to be a mournful thing... we've decided to record The Last Of The Podcast to detail why it's coming to a stop and remind ourselves (and you) of all the fun we've had over the last 11 years!
Matt, Ali and Andy from Codec Moments return to discuss their surprises and disappointments in gaming from 2022.

It's not a surprise to any regular listeners that the Codec Moments team are bit Agent 47 fans, and that they were all buying into Hitman 3. What is a bit of a shock is that it's taken over 2 months for them to actually get together to talk about the game! It's time for Andy, Ali and Matt to wax lyrical about the eponymous bald assassin for what could be the final time... Listen to this special Hitman 3 episode of the Codec Moments Podcast to find out: If they enjoyed the latest instalment of IO Interactive's best known property What they think of the recent DLC announcements How the scope of the game has changed Who edited the show Was pre-ordering the deluxe edition worth it How many hours combined the team have put in across all platforms Does Hitman 3 in VR make you sick and more! The eighth generation of consoles begins to draw to a close, and it's now nearly time to get our hands on whatever wonders Sony and Microsoft are going to release in 2020. Rather than figuring out a convoluted way of determining the best games of a generation, the team have kept it simple and are only considering which games they can remember playing. Picking a highlight from each year, this is a nostalgic tour from 2013 to present for Matt, Andy and Ali as they cast their minds back to a very different time. There's a quiz too! Listen to this episode of the Codec Moments podcast to hear: which games have they all picked from the eighth generation of consoles whether Killzone Shadow Fall has made the cut if any PC games have been included in a show about console titles who's been given which year whether they finally talk about Ghost of Tsushima if Andy make it through the quiz without complaining about the questions very little talk about racing games if all the team have just picked Hitman for each year and loads more! Really, what did you expect? F1 2020 has been released and we wouldn't do a podcast about it? C'mon! Matt and Ali can't resist the chance to talk about Formula 1, wheel setups and tyre feel on a race track. Don't switch off if you're a casual race fan though, there's some new options in this year's iteration that might appeal. Listen to this episode of the Codec Moments podcast to hear all about: Tyre differentials Downforce settings Oil pressure regulation The degree of flex on the winglets Whether the Gurney flap has been updated If the above is a load of nonsense and they just like going fast in F1 2020. In this episode of the Codec Moments podcast which should really have been called "You won't believe the stuff the PS5 and Series X can do!", the team get together to have a chat about everything they know about the next generation of consoles. It turns out that's not a lot, but they do manage to avoid fanboy baiting each other and starting a fight. Of course, with Matt and Ali on the mics there's bound to be some racing game talk, and given the DiRT 5 announcement recently it's no surprise that they head down that track. There's specs, speculation and made up stuff galore - come and have a listen! If you want to know the following then, you know, crack on... Are the team going to get the new consoles at launch? Do they care about 8k capability? Comes with bonus resolution effectivity discussion! What do we think of the new machines potential? What will the PS5 and Series X price be? How hard does Andy work to shoehorn in old podcast references? Have we answered any listener questions? When will the PS5 and Series X release? What's the name of Ali's sex tape? If we liked THAT Unreal Engine 5 video? and more! Why not join our Discord channels to talk games (and other stuff) and listen to live recordings (and join in) – click here. We're back in to the rhythm of never having time to get everyone together to record and failing to put out content. In a vague effort to do at least one thing for the Codec Moments podcast in March, Matt and Ali got together to talk about what they've played through February. It turned out to be a very busy month with more games than they realised. Andy's still lost in the depths of his man cave rebuild... Listen to this episode of the Codec Moments podcast to find out: if Two Point Hospital features what's Andy up to is Overpass any good who's bought hardware whether Sea of Thieves has improved what Dreams is like why Matt's been back to GRID whether Ali has quelled his looter shooter hunger and more! Why not join our Discord channels to talk games (and other stuff) and listen to live recordings (and join in) – click here. With it recently being the festive period, it's a time when traditionally the capitalist market goes into overdrive and consumerism dominates. This means usually we here at Codec Moments have been bought something fabulously techie, or have used the season of goodwill to cheer ourselves up with a fancy piece of kit. So it's a bit strange then that only one of us has been on any type of spending spree and treated themselves to new peripherals... like a HOTAS flightstick. Listen to this episode of the Codec Moments podcast to find out: Who's been buying stuff Which games we were looking forward to have been delayed What a load cell does How much we know about the price of peripherals (not much it turns out) What the latest Fossil smartwatch is like If Andy broke free from his Apple shackles The correct way of pronouncing HOTAS Why not join our Discord channels to talk games (and other stuff) and listen to live recordings (and join in) – click here. If you think that Discord is going to put too many buttons on a HOTAS flightstick, then why not check us out on Twitter, Facebook or contact us via email. The Codec Moments Podcast will return soon.
Winter is well and truly here and with it comes the lurgy. Everyone on the team is ill and rather than subject you to an episode full of sniffing and coughing we decided to take a week off to recover. We know, we know. We promised a cheap and cheerful clips montage podcast a couple of weeks back and failed to deliver. Well fear not intrepid listener, here it is! As a way of celebrating the 6th birthday of Codec Moments, Andy, Matt and Ali spent some time in the podcast archives rummaging through the episodes to find their favourite bits. Be prepared to listen to unfamiliar theme tunes, poorer quality audio, and Brian singing (if you remember who that is). Stayed tuned to the very end to hear a couple of special announcements about August. In this 6th birthday episode of the Codec Moments Podcast, you'll be taken on a trip down memory lane with: Songs licensed for games Jennifer Hale Far too much Hitman Not enough Metal Gear Solid Flat packed boat... need we say more? With Google's announcement of the Stadia coming later this year and how it could (potentially) revolutionise the way we consume games, the Codec Moments team got together to talk about the various services that are already on offer, and what the benefits and drawbacks are of each of the games services. Is there one that comes out on top? Are they all just part of a gamers repertoire? How much does it cost each month to subscribe to all of them. Matt, Ali and Andy discuss and debate what there is out there. In this episode you'll hear: How many titles there are on each of the games services Whether there's one that's surprised us the most Ali getting ultimately emphasised A subtle Metal Gear Solid reference because we simply don't put enough of those out there If any of the team have pre-ordered a Stadia Why we need to revisit PS Now Andy confuse Tuesday's and Thursday's and more! For the second year in a row, the Codec Moments team have recorded an E3 episode that hasn't languished in editing hell until September! Andy, Matt, Ali and Stu discuss their E3 predictions. Some are outlandish, some sound like they have been researched and some have already been announced in the week since the recording took place. The last sentence was lifted directly from the 2018 episode and still holds true today. In this podcast: We talk about the studios and publishers attending E3 and what we might see presented Andy recycles the same notes on Splinter Cell he's been using for 5 years Matt gets pipped to the post on the new Crystal Dynamics Avengers game We discuss Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and have a lot of our speculation confounded by a reveal the day after we recorded If you want to join our Discord channels and listen to live recordings (and join in), then click here. The Codec Moments team, just like the gaming industry, can't get enough of different zombie outings on their favourite platforms. We're here this week to talk about the co-op antics of World War Z, the solo escapades of Days Gone, and the bizarre and quite disturbing activities in Zankie Zero: Last Beginning (even though it's not got Z's, it has got clones coming back to life, so meh, close enough). If that's not enough to grab your shambling attention there's even a quiz that really very poorly attempts to link the dead-eyed trudge of consumerism with flesh eating monsters in a way that would make George A. Romero turn in his grave. Oh, and we even have chance to put out a long overdue interview from EGX 2018 about Heaven's Vault. Enjoy! In this episode of the Codec Moments Podcast you'll find out: Why Andy can't lift his arms If Ali's played any more of The Division 2 Who inspired who to read World War Z Why we're including a Game of Thrones reference in every episode from now on What's Swedish for zombie Whether Mortal Kombat 11 is any good for non-fighting game fans and a great interview about the development of Heaven's Vault Why not join our Discord channels to talk games (and other stuff) and listen to live recordings (and join in) – click here. If there's one thing that the Codec Moments team are partial to, it's a fighting game... well, one third of the team is at least. With Mortal Kombat 11 just around the corner it seems an apt time to talk about their experience with the genre, and fortunately Matt's tagged in some support from outside the ring and asked Stuart Cullen and Connor McKervey to lend their wisdom of haduken's and fatalities. It doesn't matter whether you know how to pull off a 10 hit combo or a multi-part chain throw, listen in if you've ever grabbed a pad and set about battering your friends in the name of relaxation. In this episode of the Codec Moments podcast you'll hear: Mentions of more games than you can shake a fight stick at 2D vs 3D presentation What we think of couch brawlers Who embarrassed Stu at Street Fighter Are they just fancy rock, paper, scissors simulators? What the Tekken bible is Online vs couch competitive Which has the best mini-game and so much more. Ubisoft's post-apocalyptic looter shooter has returned with a bang (probably from an exploding remote controlled car), but this time The Division 2 lets us take in the sights and sounds of Washington D.C. In this episode of the Codec Moments podcast, Andy, Ali and the Scottish Sun's Stuart Cullen talk about: The Division and The Division 2 - plot and does it really matter? What's different to The Division 1? We're not sure whether it's a harmless bit of Facebook fun, or if we've all been suckered into training an NSA database for the purposes of facial recognition; whatever it is, the ten year challenge started us thinking fondly about some of the games we were playing a decade ago. In this episode of the Codec Moments podcast, Andy, Ali and Matt talk about: PSP ports XBLA classics Uncharted 2 Assassin's Creed 2 Resident Evil 5 Arkham Asylum Borderlands and Modern Warfare 2 There's also a quiz of Matt's design; so tune in and listen to Ali and Andy squirm uncomfortably. Why not join our Discord channels to talk games (and other stuff) and listen to live recordings (and join in) – click here. You can also find us on Twitter, Facebook or contact us via email. The Codec Moments Podcast will return next week, when we will be talking about The Division 2.
Arguably the two biggest online shooters to release in the first part of 2019, and they both come from the EA stable. Respawn's Apex Legends surprised a lot of people almost coming from nowhere to show off what they could do in the Battle Royale genre, and Bioware's Anthem has been hyped into the stratosphere since it was announced. They might not be targeted at the same audiences, but when they do a similar job it might mean the less informed gamer doesn't know which one to plough their cash into... and one of them is free. The team get together to work out whether EA are causing themselves sales problems by chucking these games out so close to each other. Note: at the time of recording The Division 2 hadn't been released. In this episode of the Codec Moments podcast, Ali and Matt are joined by Stuart Cullen, and you'll find out: What is Apex Legends How does Anthem work Why they spend an inordinate amount of time talking about Battlefield V Which game the team consider the last decent EA title Who thinks Battle Royale games can go and f$%! themselves Whether we should really be giving a copy of Anthem away and more. Why not join our Discord channels to talk games (and other stuff) and listen to live recordings (and join in) – click here. If you think that Discord doesn't like Battle Royale games, then why not check us out on Twitter, Facebook or contact us via email. The Codec Moments Podcast will return soon to consider the ten year challenge.
It's come around quickly this month, but that's February for you folks! In a heartbeat the time seems to have flown by and the chances of getting one of those pile of shame games completed has shrivelled away, but only for some of you it seems. Two thirds of the Codec Moments team might not have been particularly productive, and it might be the lowest number of entries in a good few months, yet there's still a lot to celebrate. On with the show... Listen to this latest update on the 2019 Codec Momentum submission to find out: Who's at the top Who's at the bottom Whether Ali got around to finishing Hellblade If the scores add up this month What we've drawn the prize winner from this month How much further Stuart Neill has walked... or not, he hadn't sent us the submission at the time of recording Whether Andy has clung onto a medal paying position in the leaderboard Why not join our Discord channels to talk games (and other stuff) and listen to live recordings (and join in) – click here. The Codec Moments Podcast will return soon with more talk about online multiplayer games.
A whole month has passed already and it feels like we've never left 2018... though that might be because we've had a few AAA titles that decided to avoid the Red Dead Redemption II effect and actually pull in a few sales. But what out of this maelstrom of new and interesting titles have the team been playing? Listen to our gaming roundup to find out. Put your best podcast player to use to hear: What we've been playing to review Whether Ali knows what the latest Battlefield game is called, despite having sunk hours into it Was the Resident Evil 2 demo scary How Andy would badly run transport into Manchester Who knows the most about trains (not that it's something to brag about) Why there's been a strategy management binge at Codec Moments
It's been another great year of gaming and with so much happening over 12 months it's easy to forget some of the things that happened in 2018. What's the best way to prod those memories? A quiz! Not just any old quiz though, this is a Codec Moments quiz and that means anything could happen… as long as it involves questions, answers and being gaming related. Join Matt and Andy as they force Ali and Stuart to exercise their grey cells and dredge up facts on what they played and heard about in 2018. It's an extra long episode where you'll hear: Questions on events from January to December Surprises and disappointments from the year Extra long silences that were covered with sound effects (and cut down a huge amount too) Whether Ali or Stuart knows the most The censor bleep… a lot Random scoring decisions genuinely not designed to skew the winner Some in depth Hitman backstory and lots more. The quiz music theme used in this episode appears courtesy of Purple Planet (https://www.purple-planet.com).

Because we like quizzes, research and lots and lots of questions, it's time for Andy to pose another set of brain teasers to Matt. This time it's all about who's is the biggest… open world that is. Do you know your square mileage of San Andreas from the footprint of Skyrim? What about whether New Vegas is as big as Medici? Do you even care? Have a listen to this episode of the Codec Moments podcast to discover more than you ever wanted to know about map sizes in games.
Well, you all thought you were getting quality content, it's time for that to dry up and the half baked ideas and poorly researched games to come back to the fore. In this episode of the Codec Moments podcast, Matt and Andy pretend then know all about: Upcoming racing games that haven't hit the mainstream press Get confused by the premise of Genital Jousting Breaking news – there's a new Alien game coming How easy Andy's Year of Shame is at the 2 weeks in point The Amazon Echo Spot hitting UK shores Scotch Corner's birthday giveaway Brainwashing
Eschewing the standard “best of” highlights reel that usual ends a year, we at Codec Moments tackle things a bit differently by looking at what our surprises and disappointments are from the last 12 months. Games of the Year are usually fairly predictable (and deserving), and if you only focus on them you might miss out on some gems that don't get as much coverage. Equally, that game you've been lusting after for 18 months might turn out to be a total lemon. Here are our picks from 2017, and we've brought special guest Ali Cornwall in to lend us his thoughts… Maybe we've managed to escape the crazy Scotsman that keeps leaving us lengthy voicemails?!
Want to know more about the Codec Moments team or get their opinions on things? We asked our fabulous community to pose us questions for our very own AMA (Ask Me Anything), or rather AUA given that there's two of us answering. Literally tens of questions came in, mostly from Stuart Neill, so we made sure he had to endure his own unique quizzical style by getting him to guest and ask us them all. Hit play and learn more about the way we think than you ever wished to know. In this episode of the Codec Moments Podcast, hear all about: Killzone Shadowfall and what happened to Matt's copy What Andy's got planned for 2018 Whether Cevni actually knows what the first Star Wars film was If we'd go for the Agilent 1290 infinity 2 or the Waters Acquity H Class What the inside of a slice of bread is called and much, much more trivial nonsense
Here at Codec Moments after our thoughts on the new devices incoming from Amazon, we wanted to know who was the best between Alexa and Siri and decided to settle it the old fashioned way – duelling pistols at dawn. Sadly, neither device has hands and is capable of working a flintlock pistol, and we didn't have extension leads or WiFi signal in the middle of the woods, so we changed plans. Instead, we set about asking the two virtual assistants a variety of questions to see who would give us the most useful, sensible or realistic answers. We'd love to say it was a balanced and fully scientific experiment, but it was just more entertaining to find out which remained composed and consistent throughout, and which started to lose the plot a bit. In this Codec Moments Podcast we find out: Alexa vs Siri – who can answer the most questions sensibly that Andy starts to fear things are going a bit Ex Machina with his AI companions that there can be only one
Amazon hosted an event on the 27th September and surprised both the press and users with a raft of new hardware announcements for their Echo series of devices. We're big fans of the original Amazon Echo here at Codec Moments and the additional options and functionality got us talking about what we'd use them for, and whether we could buy into all of them. In this episode of the Codec Moments Podcast, Matt and Andy talk about: Amazon Echo… a lot… it's the point of the podcast after all the Spot, Plus, Buttons and 4K Fire connected homes Echo calling and the drop in feature how much they think they'll be spending with Amazon on these in the future
It's been several years in the making, but Matt has finally caved and gone all in for a steering wheel, pedals and seat setup to make the most of his passion for racing games… and that Project CARS 2 proved to be really, really hard with a pad. Weighing up the options and deciding on the Logitech G29 and Playseat Challenge it was time to take it to the track. In this podcast the Codec Moments team talk about: The racing kit The setup Furniture arranging Do they make you any better at games? How different driving games handle Does Andy want to go round and play?
It's been 3 months since we last put out a podcast, mainly due to insane amounts of work, then lack of work, and then technically not having anywhere to live… but we're back! It's now the traditional time for the Codec Moments team to wax lyrical about the games that surprised and disappointed them over the previous year, and we try so hard not to talk about No Man's Sky. That's not all either. Hit up the link to your favourite podcast provider or just go old skool and download it from here to find out what else we're covering this time. Listen to this episode of the Codec Call to hear: What we've been playing with – yay for tech based Xmas presents! Our biggest surprises and disappointments from 2016. How we recorded a podcast in December and haven't used any of the audio! Special guest Stuart Cullen managing to tell us about his Scottish Sun column without saying Halo 1,000 times (check out our Christie Doran interview also mentioned during the segment). Listener questions – they're back! Some info on Virtuos Games opening up a Paris studio. And of course, our #CodecMomentum winners from the last few months.

With this years major media expo about gaming that's not GDC, Gamescom or TGS about to start (sorry, we have to remind the world that there are other events outside E3); we've had a think about what the key messages and themes from the major hardware and software producers will be. Taking a pinch of what we have heard rumours about, adding a dollop of intelligent interpolation, and chucking in some totally ridiculous mental leaps, we've come up with what we think some of the stories of the conference will be. Oh, and we shout out our #CodecMomentumwinner and finishers from May too. Andy and Matt talk about: Microsoft Sony Nintendo (and are quite ill informed) 2K Take Two Ubisoft (at length…) EA Deep Silver (and you can see the Agents of Mayhem trailer here) and many others. By no means have we covered everything that's going to come up at E3 2016… post recording we collectively slapped our foreheads and exclaimed “How did we manage to forget about Horizon Zero Dawn!!“, so if we've missed anything you think we should have talked about, drop us a note in the comments below, or hit us up on Twitter or Facebook (just search for Codec Moments). We'll pick up whether we got anything right or not in our next full Codec Call.
Flash and Scuff are back to bring you a spoiler free return to Codec Moments following the release of Phantom Pain! General gameplay and impressions!

In the podcast we discuss: Aiden Pearce Gameplay styles Hacking Driving (or plowing through pedestrians screaming “I'm so sorry, it can't be avoided!”) Side quests Water cooler moments If you want to wade in on our WATCH_DOGS discussion, if we missed something you think is particularly cool, or got a few things wrong in our excitement, then you can hit us up on Twitter (@ClinicalAndy, @CevynScott and @SyphiloidMonkey), Facebook and Google+, or rant at us in the comments below!
Every day in the United Kingdom, we spend approximately 2.5 million pounds on coffee. I, like many others, think nothing of walking into a high street coffee shop and spending three pounds on my Massimo, Double Shot, Skinny Gingerbread Latte; so why do people baulk at the idea of paying that for a mobile game? I'm Professor Kelvin Harris, Codec Moments' resident scientist. I am on a mission to document interesting games that cost less than your cappuccino, which might entertain you at home, on your way to work, or even during your coffee break. This week's game for the ‘Cost of a Coffee' is Gameloft's Hero of Sparta which we played on the PS Vita in PS Minis format.
As another week lurches into view, it's time for Codec Moments to tell you about an exciting game you can buy for the Cost of a Coffee! This week we're looking at Threes! on iOS. Threes! is a puzzle game from Sirvo LLC which you can learn in seconds, but play all day without blinking; to say that it's as addictive as the caffeine we've substituted it for is, an understatement. The premise is simple, you have a board of twelve squares which contains numbers that you combine; you can match 1s and 2s to make 3s and after that you have to combine pairs of numbers, which will leave you one card of double the value.
Another week rolls around and Codec Moments continue our mission to test out games that might be interesting and entertaining, whilst costing you less than your cappuccino. This week we're looking at Bridge Constructor and Bridge Constructor Playground from Headup Games.
It's Monday again and as we reach for our favourite caffeine drink, we at Codec Moments think: “Is there a way to get a quality game, for the same price as our cup of java?” This week's game for the ‘Cost of a Coffee' is Carmageddon on iOS and Android. Carmageddon is a racing game with a difference, as the clock starts ticking down when you start and it's game over when it reaches zero; you can add more time by passing checkpoints, smashing up opponents, or ploughing through pedestrians with bonus points awarded for style!
