Welcome to Episode 246 Skazz kicks us off briefly discussing the emulators that are now available on apple allowing mobile gaming, as well as trying in-home streaming of the playstation 5. He decided to try an old PS4 launch title with Killzone: Shadow Fall. Discussing the changes to the gameplay, adding a less then successful stealth feature to the game. As well as annoying tutorials, psychic enemies and eternal combat music. We also talk about stealth implementation in games and why it does and does not work Ram also been playing a game from the early 2010s with XCom the Bureau Declassified. A time where every main player character was an arsehole. The setting is interesting and the story has some potential, but is let down with dodgy combat, annoying crashes and badly placed checkpoint. We alos discuss achievement and our general hatred of them, with some exceptions We revisiting discussing cyberpunk 2077, one of our favourite games of recent time and we relive some of the great moments from the game Notes A ps4 launch title from back in the day, Killzone Shadow Fall The third person tactical shooter with Xcom the Bureau Declassified Also check out our next game night on Wednesday 3rd July at approx 20:30 GMT+1 on Twitch:

PlayStation has officially retired the Killzone website, quashing hopes for a series comeback anytime soon. The website's removal also impacts the ability to create and manage clans within 2013's Killzone: Shadow Fall, though the servers for both it and Killzone Mercenary remain live. "Thank you to Killzone.com's many fans and visitors throughout the years for their enthusiasm and support," the site reads. Here are today's stories: - PlayStation has officially ‘retired’ the Killzone franchise website - Techland Tries to Reassure Dying Light 2 Fans After a Veteran Developer Leaves the Studio - Team Behind Custom Black PS5 Console Cancels All Orders and Vanishes - Awesome Games Done Quick 2021 raises over £2 million for cancer charity Follow me on other platforms and stay up to date! Horizon Zero Dawn is arguably one of the best games of the PlayStation 4 generation. Guerilla Games ability to create a brand new IP and having it become a massive critical and commercial success is quite the accomplishment. This doesn’t even mention how Guerilla created an iconic new PlayStation protagonist that displayed a strong female lead at a time when the industry was sorely lacking this presence. However, long before Aloy became a household name on the tongues of gamers, long before we battled giant robot dinosaurs, long before the Decima engine was created and long before Horizon Zero Dawn would go on to sell over ten million copies according to the PlayStation blog, Amsterdam based Guerilla Games were known for a much different franchise. We could talk all day about the acclaim and the awards that the studio received for Horizon Zero Dawn, especially considering that moving away from first person shooters, the only thing the studio had been known for at the time, seemed extremely risky but as they say fortune favours the bold. Development for Killzone Shadow Fall happened in parallel with the development of Horizon Zero Dawn, which began after Killzone 3, which was able to happen due to the large size of the studio that employs close to 400 people based on their Linkedin. This is noteworthy because the only game that we know in active development at Guerilla is Horizon Forbidden West. This means that there is a good chunk of the studio working on a unannounced game. The multi million dollar budget question being is Guerilla Games working on a new entry in the Killzone series or are they trying to put that series in their rear view mirror and create another new IP.
The eighth generation of consoles begins to draw to a close, and it's now nearly time to get our hands on whatever wonders Sony and Microsoft are going to release in 2020. Rather than figuring out a convoluted way of determining the best games of a generation, the team have kept it simple and are only considering which games they can remember playing. Picking a highlight from each year, this is a nostalgic tour from 2013 to present for Matt, Andy and Ali as they cast their minds back to a very different time. There's a quiz too! Listen to this episode of the Codec Moments podcast to hear: which games have they all picked from the eighth generation of consoles whether Killzone Shadow Fall has made the cut if any PC games have been included in a show about console titles who's been given which year whether they finally talk about Ghost of Tsushima if Andy make it through the quiz without complaining about the questions very little talk about racing games if all the team have just picked Hitman for each year and loads more! Why not join our Discord channels to talk games (and other stuff) and listen to live recordings (and join in) – click here. If you think that Discord is going to baffle you with what the eighth generation of consoles actually is, then why not check us out on Twitter, Facebook or contact us via email. The Codec Moments Podcast will return soon.

Video version here: https://youtu.be/ule7fvg2uAQ Killzone Shadow Fall was the launch title for the PlayStation 4 and I wanted to give it some love for being a rare game that feels as cool as even the fanciest E3 demo. It's not the best game in the world, but I think it's worth more that some people give it credit for.

Want to know more about the Codec Moments team or get their opinions on things? We asked our fabulous community to pose us questions for our very own AMA (Ask Me Anything), or rather AUA given that there's two of us answering. Literally tens of questions came in, mostly from Stuart Neill, so we made sure he had to endure his own unique quizzical style by getting him to guest and ask us them all. Hit play and learn more about the way we think than you ever wished to know. In this episode of the Codec Moments Podcast, hear all about: Killzone Shadowfall and what happened to Matt's copy What Andy's got planned for 2018 Whether Cevni actually knows what the first Star Wars film was If we'd go for the Agilent 1290 infinity 2 or the Waters Acquity H Class What the inside of a slice of bread is called and much, much more trivial nonsense
During our chat, I ask Jort about some of his previous work and dive deep into the process behind an impressive, massive space station he designed while finishing game design school. Jort shares how he lets science and physics solve his design problems to both elevate the realism as well as lead him to an appropriate solution. We discuss how making opportunities for yourself can speed along your career and path to success as well as books and other educational resources Jort himself recommends. Our first episode features an interview with freelance concept designer Jort van Welbergen. Over the past few years, he's worked with companies such as Guerilla Games and Foundry42 designing 3D environments, props and vehicles. Jort has contributed to games such as Killzone: Shadowfall, Horizon Zero Dawn and Star Citizen. Outside of work, he's been active in the entertainment industry both speaking at and helping organize conference events.

Some of you thought this day wouldn't come, and quite frankly, neither did we at times – but here it is, the much delayed Codec Call Episode XX. Because of the very slow nature of this podcast arriving, it's a bumper episode recorded and edited over several weeks, with most of the discussion out of date and totally irrelevant now… don't let that stop you from listening though, there's tonnes to get mildly entertained by. We talk at length in episode XX about: An awesome Rocket League dev interview between Stuart Cullen (The Scottish Sun) and Jeremy Dunham (VP Marketing and Communications at Psyonix) Microsoft's UWP The Division #Finishergate #CodecMomentum's March winner and a big shoutout to all participants Hitman – do we like the new game now it's finally here? VR price announcements and release info #RouteMaster The Codec Moments quiz (by Matt this month) A competition to win a Metal Gear Rising T-Shirt and Andy's copy of Killzone Shadow Fall (‘cos he's never going to finish it) All the usual games conversation that we're using to fill 2 hours (yes, it's really that long, get yourself a cuppa and comfy chair before starting)
Stephen's out this week, but that's alright because Gary Hines steps in to talk some games. Anthony's up first in Under Your Thumb (surprise, surprise) and he and Justin talk some Animal Crossing: New Leaf. That isn't all, as Dishonored also makes a return and leads to a lengthy group discussion on the game. Next up is the guest, Gary, and he played Killzone: Shadowfall for the PS4. He's clearly not a fan. He also dipped his toes into Until Dawn. A "movie" game. Gary's last game was Metal Gear Solid 5. Justin's up and just has continuing saga of Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door. Finally, getting to see all the Glitz and Glamour. Brian rounds out this week with two games that are in Beta. One he can't speak of, Fable Legends, and the other, The Division, in which Gary has also played.
