We've missed you all! We're back with our 5th season! Given the state of our world, Mom and I are centering the urgnecy of rooting in God's radical love; our guiding verse of scripture this season is 1 Cornithians 13:13 - "And now these three things remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." Throughout this episode, we discuss embodying God's call to love radically, building beloved community, connecting more deeply with God in prayer (and some ways to do this), while also centering prayer for the many who are suffering in Palestine (hostages both Israeli and Palestinian), Congo, Sudan, Tigray, and here, within the U.S. as we live through election season. Mom and I also uplift some upcoming guests this season - Lindsey Krinks, co-founder of Open Table Nashville (outreach and advocacy for persons experiencing homelessness) and author of Praying with our Feet: Pursuing Justice and Healing on the Streets, Kaitlin Johnstone, co-founder of Kind Cotton (tees and merch. that powers the distribution of inclusive books for kids across the country), Porsche Veu (@ThePoeticActivist - poet, speaker, educator and artist) and Christians for a Free Palestine, among others. And this Disability Pride Month, we hear the voice of disabled Chrisitan civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer who said: "Nobody's free, until everybody's free." Resources Mentioned during this Epsiode: Three Ways to Show Up for Disability Pride Month, a blog post written by our co-host, Emelda "E" for her small business and communinity, When Motherhood Looks Different, LLC, inspired by her daughter Nai who is neurodivergent. When King Belshazzar held a great party for his nobles, it was a sinful display of wanton pleasure and fleshly indulgence. When he brought out the vessels of worship for a gesture of mockery, The Lord caused a mysterious hand to appear and write a cryptic message on the wall. All the magicians, conjurers and diviners could not interpret the message. While they await the interpretation of the writing on the wall, one message is abundantly clear. God will not be mocked. We are excited for this two-week journey together with you, as we look into and study what it means to work on the Art of Thankfulness. Too often, we focus on thankfulness & gratitude as perfunctory thoughts around the Thanksgiving holiday, but we don't make it into a true habit of thanksgiving in our daily lives all year round. We'll jump into the steps we have to take to work on that - plus, a Free Range tradition returns, the holiday countdown!
In chapter 12, Paul told the Corinthians they were body of Christ That they should not be surprised at the diversity within the church- they were not all the same, because they were not supposed to be same• each person had his and her own place• the body is a living example of diversity within unity- after listing a variety of gifted people, Paul says,And I will show you a still more excellent way (1 Cor. 12:31)• chapter 13 is the more excellent way for us to be the body of Christ
Join us as we start exploring the context behind Paul's letter to the believers at Corinth.
In this message we take on a provocative passage in which Paul tells his church not to worry about their social status, but to REMAIN AS YOU ARE. What can this mean in America, a culture which celebrates social mobility?
God wants your life to be filled with love. A life of love is one of peace even in the middle of a storm. Continuously allowing love to be your posture. No matter what the situation you fall back to the posture of love, before you react. In the Old Testament we read about how you could not simply approach God. You had to be a priest and go behind a veil. Even Moses had to wear a veil that covered his whole face when he met with God on the mountain. If you and I wanted to talk to God, we had to petition the priest with livestock and birds. Maybe you wanted to cry to God about a situation, but you first needed to atone for your sins. Maybe 5 birds for telling all the lies, and another 3 goats for looking at your neighbor's wife in lust. Lol. You could not just go to talk to God. Aren't you so pleased that we can now go to God face-to-face? We can talk to Him, at all times and in all places without fear of not having the exact change in livestock. I count that as part of the Good News made available from Jesus. 2 Cornithians 3:17 MSG The 2 Minute Word is made possible by donations from our listerners and from our sponsor Lit-Tickets. This message from 1 Corinthians lets us take a critical look at the treatment of single people in the Christian church and inspire us to news ways of ministering in our community. 1 Corinthians, Relationships/Sexuality
In this message we tackle the tricky subject of Sexual Intimacy. What happens when one spouse is unwilling or unable to meet the sexual needs of the other? 1 Corinthians 7 gets us started as we take a heartfelt and comedic look at this important issue.
In the message study Paul's claim in 1 Corinthians 2 that only those who are filled with the Holy Spirit can truly understand the things of God. While this sounds elitist at first, in the end it should feel like the most generous offer God has ever given.
In this message we examine the introduction to 1 Corinthians. Though letter greetings are not normally preached, from these verses we learn a great deal about how to give thanks for our church, even when it may disappoint us.
