In our very first episode of Season 2, we chat with Perry about running a campaign motivated by spite, building a griot PC class, and becoming a cleric by eating another cleric. Spoiler warnings for the D&D 5e Tomb of Annihilation module - although, honestly, this episode is a great primer for running any campaign set in Chult. This is our first time back in the studio after a big break since Season 1, and you can hear Jake getting back up to speed at the start.Perry has plenty of great recommendations in this episode: Darker Hue Studios, Black Dice Society, the Wagadu Chronicles, Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer, and the books of Tananarive Due. You can watch Perry on Symphony Entertainment or find his other projects on his Linktree. You can also find many of his creations on DNDBeyond. This weeks's PC intro comes from Jason. Mystery Program showrunner, Cat Blackard, and Keeper, Luke Stram, interview Chris Spivey of Darker Hue Studios, author of the award-winning Call of Cthulhu sourcebook, Harlem Unbound. Harlem Unbound dynamically explores the real world history, personalities, social intricacies, and Lovecraftian mythos in 1920s New York City and Harlem; while confronting racism in that time period and as a part of the roleplaying experience. We speak with Chris about the challenges of bringing this project to life, the brand-new Second Edition from Chaosium, how to thoughtfully and safely explore racism in RPGs, and get juicy details on the jaw-droppingly expansive scope of his next major project, Haunted West. He joined us to talk Harlem Unbound Second Edition, Haunted West, and, as was breaking when we talked with him, his recent election to Vice President at Game Manufacturers Association. Please note, towards the end of the interview you’ll notice some of Chris’ words get glitched and some of the things he said were missing from the final recording. Chris and the Tech Diff crew wanted to make sure you heard. Ethan was asking Chris about other game developers to support, and Chris brings up Dissident Whispers by Tuesday Knight Games. This is an anthology of two page RPG scenarios for multiple systems including Mothership and DCC, as well as systemless scenarios. This book was made in support of Black Lives Matter, with all proceeds going to the National Bail Fund Network. He also wanted to highlight the great cover art made by artist Jabari Weathers, who has also worked on the 7th Sea Sorte Deck and Bluebeard’s Bride Tarot of Servants. You can also donate directly to the National Bail Fund Network, and they are but one group doing important work in the country right now. There is also the National Bail Out, local chapters of Black Lives Matter, and many other groups that need your support. Finally, you can find Chris and his work in a lot of places. You can follow him on Twitter @Darker _Hue, and follow the company online at www.darkerhuestudios.com. This month, a travel/illness-reduced crew is taking Darker Hue Studios' Harlem Unbound for a spin with the scenario "The Contender—A Love Story" by Bob Geis. The book is dual-statted for both Trail of Cthulhu and Call of Cthulhu; we opted for the latter system. The scenario is a slow-burn noir procedural that builds ever more to a truly unsettling climax, and we think you're going to really enjoy the ride. In this first episode, "Sparring with the Champ," we meet our investigative duo and follow them to the Cotton Club, where they take a job from former heavyweight champion Jack Johnson to look into a mysterious death in the boxing ring.
