This episode I chat with Dr. Lonny J. Avi Brooks about Afrofuturism & Black Mental Health. We cover what is Afrofuturism, and where mental health has appear within and through the collective works that are part of the Afrofuture / Black Speculative Arts Movements. We also the discuss the attempts to erase the movements. Including how that of eraser theme has appeared in today. Including elements we see in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Discovery. Dr. Brooks and I also talk about gaming as another area where the exploration of Afrofuturism is present with the game Dr. Brooks and Associates created called Afro-Rithms( https://www.afrorithmsfromthefuture.org/ ). As well as several Black and African focused Table Top Role Playing Games (TTRPG) and podcasts. As well as the myths and realities around mental health. Here is the demo of our game Afro-Rithms From The Future from 2019(https://www.fathomers.org/news/world-building) though now we are playing the game online with several different organizations from the dschool at Stanford to Google to SUNY Buffalo to the Black Speculative Arts Movement and soon with the Oakland Museum of California Arts as part of their exhibition on Afrofuturism, the Mothership and we will hold a game event at Carnegie Hall in New York as part of the Carnegie Hall Afrofuturism Festival/  Links for Dr. Brooks: Twitter: @avilonny Insta: @avilonny @The Afrofuturist Podcast with Ahmed Best on iTunes  https://www.facebook.com/theafrofuturistpodcast/ www.universalforesight.com https://www.fathomers.org/news/world-building http://www.hyphen-labs.com/nsaf.html https://jfsdigital.org/articles-and-essays/vol-24-no-2-december-2019/introduction-to-the-special-issue-when-is-wakanda-afrofuturism-and-dark-speculative-futurity/ https://www.afrorithmsfromthefuture.org/ Three Black Halfings Podcast: https://headgum.com/three-black-halflings Table Top Role Playing Games: Into the Motherlands: https://motherlandsrpg.com Orun: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/newagendapubs/orun Mythic D6, Bastion: https://kheperapublishing.com/tag/mythic-d6/ The Wagadu Chronicles: https://thewagaduchronicles.com/ Harlem Unbound: https://www.darkerhuestudios.com/ Haunted West: https://www.darkerhuestudios.com/ Native American, Table Top Role Playing Games: Crow & Coyote: https://coyoteandcrow.net Ehdrigohr: https://council-of-fools.com/blog/ehdrigohr-rpg/

This episode was recorded on September 12, 2019. Discord server invite link >> Campus Crier October 10th marks the 1 year anniversary of Chaosium’s Greg Stafford passing. And to honor him they are asking people to play a game in his memory in the month of October. To that effect, Chaosium will be releasing a free scenario for each of the main RPGs in their catalog on October 10th (CoC, Runequest, Pendragon, 7th Sea, and HeroQuest). Big updates were announced on Chaosium’s Central Asia game, Children of Fear. Lynne Hardy posted on the Chaosium website that “all the art, maps, and handouts are in progress, and the final stages of editing are almost finished.” She has also re-confirmed the mid-2020 release date. The post also includes sneak previews of the art that will be in the book, and it looks really, really good. Link in the show notes. The new addition of Masks of Nyarlathotep has won at DragonCon this year, bringing home a Dragon Award for Best Science Fiction or Fantasy Miniatures/Collectible Card/Role Playing Game. Congratulations to Chaosium! Chris Spivey took to Twitter on 2nd of September to announce that The Haunted West kickstarter will be going live in October. You might well remember that this is a Weird Western RPG that uses a new system developed in house at Darker Hue. And just like Harlem Unbound it “features people of color as protagonists… [highlighting] the people of color who are often overlooked in stories about the Old West.” https://twitter.com/darker_hue/status/1168529387681173506?s=12 Hypergraphia #2 is now available! The nice thing is that offer applies to anyone globally, even those unaffected by the North American shipper. Mysterious Creatures Field Guide by Eli Libson -- This is an amazing book of fantastic fantasy creatures with awesome painted illustrations of each creature. It feels like the Wayne Barlow book of alien creatures. This month, a travel/illness-reduced crew is taking Darker Hue Studios' Harlem Unbound for a spin with the scenario "The Contender—A Love Story" by Bob Geis. The book is dual-statted for both Trail of Cthulhu and Call of Cthulhu; we opted for the latter system. The scenario is a slow-burn noir procedural that builds ever more to a truly unsettling climax, and we think you're going to really enjoy the ride. In this first episode, "Sparring with the Champ," we meet our investigative duo and follow them to the Cotton Club, where they take a job from former heavyweight champion Jack Johnson to look into a mysterious death in the boxing ring.
