This episode the Regular Joe's roll the dice, betting that nothing fantastic will happen in the next two weeks, as they do their annual year in review show. With Brian Mix and Derryl DePriest singing back up, the Joe's cover the greatest hits and the biggest misses from the past year. There are surprises, and some familiar favorites, as they review the movies TV, series, events, acquisitions and happenings that punctuate 2024 as it fades in the rearview mirror. Thanks for listening!
This week, the Regular Joe's joined by Irregular Joe's, Derryl DePriest and Brian Mix, revisit the Marvel Cinematic Universe Catalog from a different perspective, or perhaps a few different perspectives. Ultimately the question becomes which, Marvel films do you find compelling enough to rewatch, whether you stumble upon them while randomly channel surfing, spot them while scrolling the channel menu, queue up a streaming channel, or if you're really old-school, loading physical media. Along the way, it becomes clear that there's apparently no one way to watch TV. Some find other's methods unusual, still others are downright perplexed why anyone would ever watch a reformatted, edited, commercial interrupted, fragment of a film they own. There's also the usual Random Topics, and a round of What's in the Box which includes a Holy Grail Barry has been seeking for a very long time. Thanks for listening!
This week it's a Regular Joes full house as Dave, Barry and Tod are joined by Derryl DePriest and Brian Mix for a RJP catch up episode. Derryl and Brian fill us in on their trip to the Star Trek Set Tour in Ticonderoga NY, we do our usual round of Discovery bashing and it all concludes with a major technical difficulty. As always, thanks for listening.

Just in case you were getting tired of the Regular Joe's weekly updates of back to back Mandalorian and Star Trek: Picard episodes they decided to switch things up a bit. This Week they bring in remote correspondence Derryl DePriest and Sean Huxter who report on last weekend's Toylanta … toy show … in Atlanta, giving the lowdown from their respective roles as vendor, presenter, and of course, collectors. After that, you get the usual update of back to back Mandalorian and Star Trek: Picard. In the Joe's defense, when has there ever been awesome Star Trek and Star Wars happening simultaneously? It's like seeing a mermaid ride a unicorn. You just Gotta talk about it. There's also a bonus sized What's in the Box and the usual Random Topics. Thanks for listening!
For this week's episode we threw together a band of troublesome lone operators and tasked them with watching and reporting back on The Suicide Squad, an apparent sequel that tries desperately not to be a sequel. Not surprisingly, the usual bad actors, joined by the notorious Derryl DePriest, ultimately completed the mission but failed to achieve overall consensus. Dissenting opinions aside, James Gunn can take a lump of @#$&% and make it awesome. Note there will be SPOILERS like, a giant freakin Starfish kaiju from space nearly takes over the planet. But you probably saw that coming. They also take a first pass at Marvel's What If, with again, widely ranging reactions. There's also the usual Random Topics and a round of What's in the Box. Thanks for Listening.
The Toy Show Strikes Back! This week on the Smuggler's Galaxy Podcast, Glen and Jason talk about their experience at the first post-COVID toy show, Toylanta. They talk about their experience shopping for toys, representing the GASWC, experiences on the panel, and the toy swap. As an added bonus, we've included the interview conducted by Jerry Hancock with Derryl DePriest and Rich Alot, co-authors of the upcoming Star Wars The Vintage Collection Archive Edition book. This stellar interview goes in-depth about the Hasbro toy making process and the incredible new book coming this May.Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=FGHW6CWKNPMZ8¤cy_code=USD) --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/smugglersgalaxy/support
Don’t get us wrong, season one of the Mandalorian was good ... ok very good. But, by any objective standard season two was mind blowing. If you have not yet watched the season finale, you will want to go do that now. Really. There will be SPOILERS ... lots and lots of SPOILERS. The regular hosts are once again joined by Derryl DePriest and Brian Mix as they process what they just saw. And, even though folks really should stop buying stuff for themselves at this time of year, there’s a round of Show and Tell. Thanks for Listening!
It doesn’t take much effort to rewatch a film like Goldfinger. It shows no commitment to cue up The Rock. What takes true dedication is committing 102 extremely long minutes to a film that you know Is going to be excruciatingly bad. This week the Regular Joes pay tribute to the late Sean Connery by watching the the 1974 John Boorman sci-fi/Fantasy film Zardoz for the latest installment of Disaster-Piece Theater. And, because misery loves company, they bring long-time friends Jim Bush and Derryl DePriest along for the ride. Please Note: the Regular Joes Podcast accepts no responsibility for any lasting psychological effects suffered by listeners who choose to watch this film. There’s also the usual Random Topics and an extra large helping of What’s in The Box. Thanks for listening!
We like Robots. Frankly, who doesn’t. Robots have been a persistent presence in pop culture since Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (1927). What is the allure of these mechanical/artificial men, and women? Why do we so easily identify with these characters who often have more in common with a home appliance than the human race? What makes a good robot good and a bad robot terrifying? To answer these questions and many more the Regular Joes bring in robot maker Brian Mix and one-time Droid manufacturer Derryl DePriest. Note: we also run down the lengthy list of female androids ... because that’s a thing. There’s also a round of Robot Related Show, and Tell the usual Random Topics, as well first reactions to the Mandalorian Season 2 trailer ... which contains fully 100% less robots than the previous season’s trailer. Thanks for listening!
With everything that’s going on and everything that’s not, sometimes it’s nice to just have some time to kick back and hang out with your friends. This was one of those weeks. Joined by Derryl DePriest, and Brian Mix, Barry, Dave and Tod cover a wide range of topics from the genius of the late Carl Reiner, the glacial pace vs. the conceptual brilliance of 2001 a Space Odyssey, and why Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. picked now to finally get so damned good. On the Final Frontier ... er, front, Dave makes the trek to the just reopened Star Trek Set Tour in Ticonderoga New York, which would have been the best Trek related experience anyone has had in months, until Brian laid down the “I just hung out with Bjo and John Trimble” card. He Won. Note: if you don’t know the name Bjo Trimble, seriously, Google her. Thanks for listening, and hanging out with us!
This week the Regular Joes have a full house as the regular Regulars are joined by Derryl DePriest and Brian Mix to observe the annual Star Wars holiday/marketing ploy. They have a lot to talk about as Disney+ has just wrapped up the Clone Wars for a third and seemingly final time. Warning, there will be SPOILERS, but really, if you haven’t watched Clone Wars previously nothing they talk about will make any sense to you anyway blah blah blah Ahsoka, blah blah blah Darth Vader, blah blah blah, repeat. Then, because Star Wars is the one topic about which all fans agree, they engage in a series a spirited discussions about their favorite characters, Droids and other stuff, as well as lengthy prognostications on the impact of 40 plus years of narrative on two of Star Wars most iconic figures. There’s also What’s in The Box, and a sampling of Random Topics. Disclaimer: a not insignificant amount of alcohol was consumed during this episode resulting in a somewhat rambling discourse and at least one ill advised criticism of J.J. Abrams. Thanks for listening, Say Safe, and May The Fourth Be With You!
Val Kilmer films are like ice cream, everyone has a favorite flavor. And, as some might say, there’s no accounting for taste. This week our five hosts, yes that’s five, as Brian Mix is back and Derryl DePriest drops in to discuss three of Val Kilmer’s very different films. Note: Mr. Kilmer was invited but was unable to attend due to a prior engagement, and ... likely his dignity. First on deck is Kilmer’s first film role, Top Secret (not to be confused with Top Gun) Zucker and Abraham’s spoof/mash up of espionage films and, yes, Elvis Movies from 1984. Next it’s the box office winner of the three, from 1988, Ron Howard’s fantasy epic Willow. While opinions differ greatly on this particular film, when you first saw Willow is clearly a large factor in how you feel about it. Lastly, the low hanging fruit of Val Kilmer films, Tombstone, the 1993 western where Kilmer’s portrayal of dandy gunfighter gambler Doc Holiday eclipses his costars, the film’s historical subject, and possibly the entire state of Arizona. They also throw in a round of Val Kilmer related Show and Tell in their ongoing effort to give you an hour or so each week where your are not simply pondering where your next roll of toilet paper is coming from.
At this time each year the Regular Joes meet up for the biggest comic con in the smallest state. This time around they were joined by old and new friends Derryl DePriest and Brian Mix. in addition to the traditional recap they get the chance to chat with the men behind two fan favorite characters from the Star Wars universe, Tim Rose aka Admiral Akbar and Mike Quinn who has played Nien Nunb in four of the Skywalker saga films. Both are veteran performers with long histories including the Muppets. As usual a few of the shows other guests, including a Wookie and a famous movie mom, play through. So, pretty much business as usual for their impromptu hotel lobby talk show. Special thanks to superb guest hosts Brian and Derryl and, as always, thanks for listening!

It’s a deep dive into one of the most popular and long-running STAR WARS 3 ¾ inch action figure lines, The Vintage Collection. Their inaugural project, Star Wars The Vintage Collection Archive Edition Book is currently up on Kickstarter, and is blowing through stretch goals like a Jedi through battle droids. Find out how you can get in on this groundbreaking volume. Next up, as we do once every thirty years or so, we take a look at Batman (1989) and, theoretically, reassess and reevaluate or thoughts regarding this seminal superhero blockbuster. Spoiler, no one’s position shifts too much, but it’s a good opportunity to take stock of why some of us hold this particular Bat-flick in high regard…while others not so much. All this plus the usual Random Topics and an economy sized round of What’s in the Box. Thanks for listening!

So here’s the pitch, eccentric rich dude searches the world for super powered misfits then brings them back to his mansion to train as a superhero team. Sounds like the X-Men, right? Wrong. This week two very similar themed comic-based shows debuted. Doom Patrol on DC’s streaming service and Umbrella Academy on Netflix. To help compare and contrast these shows the Regular Joes bring in Derryl DePriest, noted authority on comics and all things toy related. But first there’s some Random Topics, a round of What’s in the Box and a deep dive into rumors surrounding an Obi Wan Kenobi series on Disney’s impending streaming service. With four hosts on deck It’s like getting 33% more Regular Joes for the same low, low price! Thanks for Listening!

This is it! More than four years in the making, the stupendous, the amazing, the mind-blowingly awesome 200th (or there abouts) episode of the Regular Joe’s Podcast! OK. To be honest, what you’re really getting is a whole lot like the last 199 episodes. Good friends getting together to talk about and share the stuff they enjoy with each other and you. For this bicentennial episode Barry Dave and Tod are joined by their good friend Derryl DePriest. The four cover a wide range of topics, most of which came from you, our listeners. Well many of these questions and topics may sound familiar some of the answers will surprise you, as they did each of us. Thanks for listening!
Considering this podcast was founded over a love of toy collecting, it’s been a while since we devoted an entire episode to toys, but in this episode we do. First up we check in on the status of Hot Toys. Which upcoming offerings hold the most interest, what we've been waiting for seemingly forever, and which figures Barry has just added to his legion of Stormtroopers. On the B side Tod gives an update on his visit to GI Joe Con 2017 in Orlando including some info from his Adventure Team design history panel with Derryl DePriest. All this plus a marathon round of Random Topics and What's in The Box. Thanks for listening!

In addition to highlights of our favorite shows, upcoming films, and collectibles Derryl shares his perspectives on more than thirty years of SDCC attendance. All this plus What's in The Box and Shirt Up! Thanks for listening.
It's the 150th episode, and not unlike the previous 149, it's just a few friends hanging out and talking about the stuff they like. For this episode the circle expands to include Derryl DePriest, uber collector and the mutual friend who first introduced the RJ crew. After a round of What's in the Box, including the unboxing of a 60's era holy grail, the Joes weigh in or a series of randomly selected questions covering the evolution and scope of their interests over the previous three years. "The movie you most wish you had not seen a SECOND time?" "Your favorite film by Dave’s least favorite director" "The show/film I always recommend that no one has ever seen" etc, etc. Some of the answers are surprising, some . . . not so much. SPOILER. They all still love Logan's Run. Thanks for listening!!!

SDCC 2012... If you can't think of at least a half of a dozen things you're excited about you need to find a new hobby. I don't think I said this on the show, but here are my favorite announcements from each line. For Masters this guy was killing it for me. Nostalgia will usually trump everything and Jitsu was one of my favorites as a kid. While Joe fans got the shaft once again panel-wise, fan sites got the opportunity to talk to the man with the plan, Derryl DePriest. He sounds excited for the 50th anniversary next year. He let it be known while it's the 50th for the brand, it will still focus on ARAH and that makes me excited. For the transforming giant robot lover in me, the news that we'll be getting the Asian Exclusives/China Imports trumped even a mechanized space dinosaur from a video game. And you know how much I love all of those things individually, let alone all in one toy. Lastly Star Wars was pretty lackluster, but again the nostalgia came through. We didn't just get the nostalgia of a Speeder Bike that explodes, for the first time it will come with a flight stand. While I've got my issues with the stand itself, it's a welcome addition to the line. All in all it was a great show. Can't wait until next year.
