It was an eventful off-year election across the country. In Minnesota, St. Paul elected a new mayor, state Rep. Kaohly Her. It was in a surprise repudiation of the incumbent, Mayor Melvin Carter. Across the river, Minneapolis voters gave their mayor, Jacob Frey, another term. As the dust settles from the the 2025 election, momentum for the 2026 midterms is picking up. Minnesota will see an election as big as they come as voters will elect a governor, a new U.S. senator, key positions from the attorney general to the secretary of state, eight members of the U.S. House and the entire state Legislature — which is now as closely divided as ever. MPR News politics editor Brian Bakst and a pair of political analysts look back at this week's voting and look ahead to what's in store next year. Later in the hour, a Republican U.S. Senate candidate will make his case on why he's running and what he'll have to navigate to reach the fall ballot. Then, a recap on state politics where two political reporters make their politics panel debut. Guests: Chas Anderson is the co-CEO and senior principal at Park Street Public and a longtime Republican strategist. Todd Rapp is the president and CEO at Rapp Strategies and a veteran DFL strategist. Adam Schwarze is U.S. Marine veteran and former Navy SEAL seeking the Republican nomination for Minnesota's U.S. Senate seat. Peter Cox is a correspondent for MPR News.Michelle Griffith is a reporter for the Minnesota Reformer.Nathaniel Minor is a reporter for the Minnesota Star Tribune.Use the audio player above to listen to the full conversation or subscribe to the Politics Friday podcast on: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or RSS.
We've been on the road 85 days for the round trip to Alaska, but finally we returned home without incident. The final leg of the trip allowed us to visit Jasper and Banff for 6 days before making the final push to Chicago. This month we had a final exit interview with Chris and Jean from an earlier episode as they share their impressions of the trip.
Approximately a third of U.S. residents are non-drivers. Some by choice, but many are physically incapable of driving or financially cannot afford to. The Week Without Driving is an annual campaign that encourages people, especially those who drive, to go a week without their car — use alternative methods, like public transit, walking, biking, or riding-sharing to meet their transportation needs — to see what life is like for non-drivers. The week highlights barriers to transportation and aims to promote better-designed transportation systems and infrastructure for everyone. This year, Humboldt County Supervisor Natalie Arroyo attempted a week without driving. She joins hosts Tom Wheeler and Colin Fiske to discuss her experience and the work of local governments to make our transportation system better.Support the show

Friend of the show Kashena Sampson returns to discuss her transformative new album, Ghost Of Me—a powerful cycle of letting go and rising again, structured around the phases of the moon. Kashena details her shift from Americana to a dark, industrial pop/rock sound, how she intentionally aligned her singles ("Rear View Mirror," "Phases") with specific lunar milestones, and the "vampire-style" arrangement she demanded for her song "Heartache." The Power of Shadow Work: When she started her journey of introspective growth and why quitting alcohol 19 years ago was the catalyst for her personal transformation. The New Nashville Dilemma: The contradiction of maintaining spirituality while navigating the demands of social media and the pressure to constantly compare yourself to other artists on stage. The making of the defiant torch song, "F*cked Up Love." Working with producer Jon Estes and guitarist B.L. Reed. Send us a textToday we're pulling over to talk about something we all carry, regret. It has a bad reputation, but maybe it shouldn't. Regret often sneaks up through the rearview mirror, disguised as guilt or shame. Yet when we take the time to look closer, it can become a powerful teacher. It reminds us what mattered, where we went off course, and what we want to do differently next time.Hindsight has a way of making our missteps feel sharp, but that emotional awareness is a gift. Regret shows us our capacity for change. It helps us stop repeating patterns that no longer serve us and nudges us toward something better.Think of it like riding a motorcycle. You don't stare at the mirrors the whole time, but glancing back keeps you aware of what's behind so you can ride forward with more intention. Regret isn't meant to stall you. It's meant to give you momentum.Because if you've made it this far without a few emotional crash sites, you probably haven't left the parking lot. So let's talk about it, because sometimes, looking back is exactly what helps us move forward.

Andrew Browning - Looking Through the Rear View Mirror of Your Life by West Coast Baptist College
In this first message of The GIFT for Life, Dean kicks off our journey into the Holy Spirit—not as some mysterious force, but as one of the greatest gifts God's ever given us. Using the image of a rearview mirror, he challenges us to look back and spot the moments where God's Spirit has already been at work in our lives, even when we didn't notice it at the time. It's a fresh reminder to stop just admiring the “wrapping paper” and start living fully in the presence of the One who's been with us from the very beginning. For up-to-date info, follow our socials: https://www.instagram.com/freedomchurchbenoni/https://www.facebook.com/FreedomChurchBenoniMore episodes on all podcast platforms and our YouTube channel:Follow the link below, or search "freedom church Benoni" on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music, or YouTube Music! https://www.youtube.com/@freedomchurchbenoni/podcasts #freedomchurchbenoni #sundayfunday
Have you ever felt stuck, replaying past decisions and beating yourself up about what you “should have known”? I've been there—so much so that when I was learning to drive, I spent more time staring into my rear-view mirror than focusing on the road ahead. In this episode of Reframe to Create, I'm sharing why regrets don't have to break you or keep you stuck. Instead, they can become treasure troves of learning—if you know how to reframe them. You'll learn: Why regrets are not a bug but a feature of life. How beating yourself up about the past prevents you from learning. Two powerful perspective shifts to help you move from regret to growth. How to see your past as sealed as your future—so you can finally let go. Regret doesn't have to haunt you. It can teach you. It can guide you. It can even help you create something beautiful. About: The Reframe to Create podcast is hosted by Joy Spencer, an Executive Leadership and Storytelling Coach, Speaker, and Organizational Development Consultant working with professionals and leaders at all levels within organizations. Joy leverages over 17 years of experience she gained while working to champion change in social justice movements, including those related to global access to essential medicines and consumer advocacy for online privacy. This work required a dogged commitment to not merely challenging the status quo, but to reimagining and working towards creating an ideal future. It is this commitment to creating that has shaped Joy's coaching philosophy and approach today. Using her signature C.R.E.A.T.E. framework, Joy guides her clients through a process to become incomparable in work so they can get paid to be themselves. I finished Freshman year of HS! It wasn't exactly what I had expected but to be honest, But I am not exactly sure what I expected. Here's my main tips: Be open – to people, to try new things, to new experiencesBe open to new friends and friendshipsBe involved with school activities – sports, clubs etc. – which helps you meet different people.I really enjoyed homecoming because it created so many classic high school memories. Another highlight was my AP Human Geography class. Though the class was stressful, I loved the teacher and met a lot of good friends! Now that it's summer, I am picking up a couple of hobbies!! I love crocheting – and I have made baby blankets, plushies etc.I am also now learning to sew and to make a quiltI started because I saw a documentary on Netflix called “Quilters” which is about a group of men in prison who are making quilts, and it looked so cool! Also I am also co-hosting a local radio show. Can you believe it? Me on a radio show!If you are in Dallas-Ft Worth, tune in to FM 104.1 on Sundays at 5 PM and call in!Listen to the episode for more details and more about how I'm spending my summer! What about you? How's your summer? Doing anything fun? Learning anything new? Seen any fun movies or shows? Where, once again, the area is having to work through another economic crisis. This visit home is great if it wasn't for these pesky nose bleeds that have started to become more frequent in Albert's life. However, the nose bleeds are an indication that something wicked this way comes for Albert and nothing will be able to help him. This is not the the visit home anyone expected. There are three components that could end constitutional democracy as we know it, says scholar Peter L. Biro — fear and its weaponization, habituation which involves the consequence of not noticing, and the 'stupidification' of our minds and of our discourse. He argues that we, as law-abiding average citizens, have the power to save our democracy and defend against backsliding forces. Biro recently delivered a keynote address at the ominously titled conference, Liberal Democracy in the Rearview Mirror? at Massey College in Toronto.

This week we take a look at the studio catalog of 90's band Slaughter. Formed in 1988 by ex Vinnie Vincent Invasion members Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum, the duo recruited guitarist Tim Kelly and drummer Blas Elias before getting to work on their 1990 debut album 'Stick it to Ya.' Riding high on the success of singles such as 'Up All Night' and 'Fly to the Angels,' the album sold well and secured the band a slot on KISS' 'Hot in the Shade' tour. 1992's followup album 'The Wild Life' would show solid sales but telltale signs of a tide shift in the music business. Without major label backing, Slaughter would go on to release 3 albums for independent label CMC Records; 1995's 'Fear No Evil,' 1997's 'Revoluion,' and 1999's 'Back to Reality.' Mark Slaughter would go on to record two solo albums; 2015's 'Reflections in a Rear View Mirror' and 2017's 'Halfway There' but Slaughter remains out of the studio. Will that change?
