Mini Motorways, the latest beautiful puzzle game from Dinosaur Polo Club, has captured the Pixel Boys' minds. Tony and Dan are still playing Horizon Forbidden West, and we all watched some movies and talked about them (including The Batman & Free Guy). Also Hades, Steam Deck, the Kirby & the Forgotten Lands demo, Elden Ring (from afar), the Overwatch 2 beta, Super Mario World, and Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. Recorded March 12, 2022.

Chris O'Regan chats to Casey Lucas-Quaid and Robert Curry of Dinosaur Polo Club about the design and development of their infrastructure building puzzle game, Mini Motorways. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/sausage/TSF_Episode349.mp3 The Sausage Factory 349 was edited by Chris O'Regan The Sausage Factory is an interview-based podcast that lifts the lid on the makers of videogames. It examines the way in which games are made by asking the very people who create them, though the questions asked aren't just about game design, they also cover how developers made their start and what inspires them as creators. Split into two halves, the first segment delves into what makes the developers tick by asking about how they started, what and who inspires them and what games they are currently playing, whereas the second part of the show covers the game that they are currently working on and the thought processes behind its development. So, if you really want to hear about a game's gestation in full and frank detail then you have found the right podcast.

Dinosaur Polo Club's first game 'Mini Metro' was all about rapid, and not so rapid, public transport. This time the Curry Brothers are tackling traffic. Can you do better than a city planner or will it end with a snarl and a whimper? 'Mini Motorways' is available now.
Mini Metro is a meditative transit simulator all about creating your own subway lines. Before it became a hit, though, its co-creator wasn't sure he'd ever make another game. Join us as we talk with Robert Curry, co-founder and Studio Manager at Dinosaur Polo Club. Together, we revisit his earliest years in the industry, and come away with lessons about failing forward, embracing constraints, and taking nothing for granted.
We sit down with Peter Curry, a Programmer & Designer from Dinosaur Polo Club, developers of Mini Metro. Mini Metro is a subway planning puzzle game, that puts the fun in fundamental transport logistics, with a great procedurally generated soundtrack and a fantastic minimalist design. Peter joined us from Wellington, New Zealand and we learned what it's like to develop a game about subway train network management from a country that doesn't have any subways. We’ll also be talking skill elitism and how it relates to gaming toxicity. Could the source of much of the online toxicity in games be the result of an over inflated value that we place on our gaming prestige? Lastly we took a look at the early access title Fortnite as it recently accidentally allowed PS4 and Xbox One users to play together for the briefest of moments. All eyes are now looking to Sony as to why we still are unable to play with our cross-platform counterparts. Join me for a discussion with Dinosaur Polo Club's Robert Curry, about going indie in New Zealand and creating Mini Metro. We talk about going to cons, keeping your scope in check and finishing that first game!
Get your phones out, Mainly Mobile is back with a brand new episode. Now that I have an iOS device, I am excited to be able to balance out the podcast to cover both Android and iOS games and apps! Hurray! I have completed FRAMED (iOS only), and it is a great-looking and clever game from 2014 by Loveshack Entertainment, located in Australia. The comic-book visuals and control with a noir feel was a unique combination that made it stand out and pull me in. Also from Australia, Halfbrick Studios created a game in 2010 called Fruit Ninja for multiple platforms, including both iOS and Android, and I finally understand the mass appeal of the game. Hitman GO is a cool take on the Hitman series for Android and iOS by Ubisoft Montréal released in 2014. They take the assassin and put him on a diorama that looks like a board game, where you solve puzzles in a turn-based fashion. Type:Rider is a game from France released in 2013 from a confusing studio/producer combination that hopefully someone can figure out. The game is a work of art that teaches you the history of written language. For the PC crowd, I recommend checking out Mini Metro by New Zealand company Dinosaur Polo Club. The game is about building simple transit systems in various cities with a simple drag-and-drop control scheme. Jstebz has been playing a lot of Skyward by Ketchapp which is has a nice Monument Valley look to it, Linken which is a connect-the-dots puzzle game made by LevelInd, and Bamba, a game in which you must keep your little Frenchman upon his hipster unicycle, developed by Simon Ducroquet. We also checked out Heads Up! A trivia game app made by Ellen Degeneres herself. Who knew she was a secret game dev. Jstebz is on the lookout for more trivia or party games that can be played on one or more devices (Android AND iOS) for game nights with a group of people. Let us know if you have any suggestions!Follow Mainly Mobile on Twitter and Instagram and let us know what you're playing on your phone or tablet.
