What do you do when you have a brand new handheld console coming out? You turn to a series that is synonymous with your home console. We're going back to late 2004 (or early 2005… or late 2005, depending on the region you're in) to look at a turn-based strategy spin-off. We're talking Metal Gear Acid (or Metal Gear Ac!d, however you're meant to pronounce that). On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we chat a little bit about importing a Japanese PSP as well as an American UMD, and a back of the box for the handheld's launch window. We also look at how acid dissolves metal, fashionable acid jazz, and Colm does his longest “how does this game play?” bit ever. Here are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: Hitman Go; doing nothing, watching the enemy, and plotting a route; trying to figure out if a gun without a silencer is just as quiet as a gun that does have a silencer; hiding quite important things like how to view the map from an aerial view and how to shoot some weapons; chasing down a guard before the call goes through after he's spotted you; not enough places to hide and plenty of guards to kill; failure via randomisation (and just deck management, in general); mission-critical cards; Balatro; how cost changes who goes when; controlling Snake AND Teliko; stacking buffs; the power of the XM8; mystifying decisions around movement; a game of Ludo; a story that's nutty in a slightly different way to regular Metal Gear Solid, but told in a terribly boring way; a dramatic performance; music that's better than you expect; and the most peculiar in-game adverts. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Metal Gear Acid is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Invisible, Inc. on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS
Square Enix Montreal were initially going to be making the next big PC and console game in the Hitman series, until they were put on mobile phone duty. A third of the team left because they were so gutted. And then the remainder created a 2014 turn-based puzzle game. We're talking Hitman Go.On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we take a look at the formation of the studio, and the board game idea was first prototyped. We also discuss the golden era of mobile games and whether we played them, as well as a nice physical model and whether or not this game might've grabbed a few Candy Crush or Words With Friends In our review, you'll hear some chat on enemies with different coloured jackets and narrow vision cones, giant potted plants to hide in, okay instafail because of a quick restart, translating the parts of big Hitman for small Hitman, they move only when you move (but can you make fewer moves), optional objectives and replayability, firing your sniper rifle at a statue (or getting a double-kill), the relief of killing a baddie (and then not hiding the body), perfect motion sensor air freshener-esque mood-setting music, Ave Maria, dummy items in levels, an Eyes Wide Shut get together, trap doors, walking escalators, character rich static scenes that prove divisive, the wealthy, and major problems with a mouse. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Hitman Go is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Days Gone on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS
After effectively creating the Soulsborne genre and having a wild amount of success with it, one of the most celebrated developers of the 21st century decided to tinker the formula once more. And, again, to great success. We're going back to 2019, to a stealth action game that picked up so many game of the year awards that particular year. We're talking Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we take a look at the early days of FromSoftware and how it took the studio close to two decades to achieve overnight success. We also discuss a YouTuber making the Loaded Axe and Loaded Umbrella in real life, as well as the link between this game and Tenchu. Of course, there's some chat on the differences between this game and Dark Souls / Bloodborne that were highlighted in pre-launch interviews... and there's some talk on the dreaded difficulty discourse that comes up around every From Software game launch. In our review, you'll hear some chat on the advantages of taking a stealthy approach and then giving a boss a Shinobi Deathblow, luring moronic enemies away from the herd, the sheer relief after you've stabbed an enemy and downed them, the frustratingly good peripheral vision of enemies, trying to pick off a group one-by-one, lobbing bits of pot off a wall, eating sweets to remain unseen, being a Sengoku Spider-Man with the grappling hook, The Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise, feel the rhythm to break the other guy's Posture (and the joy when that happens), nonstop trial-and-error, Perilous Attacks, breaking rhythm with the Mikiri Counter, the Nighjar's acrobatics and woo, dirty tactics with the Shinobi Prosthetic, Dragonrot and resurrection, the sheer amount of items and skill trees and menus, grinding for skill points, Genichiro Ashina (and then Genichiro, Way of Tomoe), the autumnal environs of Senpou Temple and immortality, a story that's out of time (and has cutscenes), micro narratives, and one nasty sword. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Hitman GO on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS

On this episode of Attack the Backlog, Marc sneaks and creeps through the yards and homes of Hitman Go, a board game-like take on the video game series of the same name, bringing the puzzle-solving aspect to the forefront. Hitman Go originally came out for iOS on April 17th, 2014, and then made its way to Android a few months later, followed by eventual releases on Windows Phone (yup), Windows proper, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. Anyway, something-something, become a silent assassin and don't forget to put your mask on, cheers and enjoy the show. If you're feeling extra generous, you can become a patron, donate a little something-something, or subscribe to show your support for the site, the plentiful podcasts, the various videos, the absurd art, and all of the other nonsensical nonsense we make over here at Pixelated Sausage. As always, thanks for being a fan.

Get your phones out, Mainly Mobile is back with a brand new episode. Now that I have an iOS device, I am excited to be able to balance out the podcast to cover both Android and iOS games and apps! Hurray! I have completed FRAMED (iOS only), and it is a great-looking and clever game from 2014 by Loveshack Entertainment, located in Australia. The comic-book visuals and control with a noir feel was a unique combination that made it stand out and pull me in. Also from Australia, Halfbrick Studios created a game in 2010 called Fruit Ninja for multiple platforms, including both iOS and Android, and I finally understand the mass appeal of the game. Hitman GO is a cool take on the Hitman series for Android and iOS by Ubisoft Montréal released in 2014. They take the assassin and put him on a diorama that looks like a board game, where you solve puzzles in a turn-based fashion. Type:Rider is a game from France released in 2013 from a confusing studio/producer combination that hopefully someone can figure out. The game is a work of art that teaches you the history of written language. For the PC crowd, I recommend checking out Mini Metro by New Zealand company Dinosaur Polo Club. The game is about building simple transit systems in various cities with a simple drag-and-drop control scheme. Jstebz has been playing a lot of Skyward by Ketchapp which is has a nice Monument Valley look to it, Linken which is a connect-the-dots puzzle game made by LevelInd, and Bamba, a game in which you must keep your little Frenchman upon his hipster unicycle, developed by Simon Ducroquet. We also checked out Heads Up! A trivia game app made by Ellen Degeneres herself. Who knew she was a secret game dev. Jstebz is on the lookout for more trivia or party games that can be played on one or more devices (Android AND iOS) for game nights with a group of people. Let us know if you have any suggestions!Follow Mainly Mobile on Twitter and Instagram and let us know what you're playing on your phone or tablet.

Jon is back from his second trip before heading off to number three. He's been playing the new Hyrule Warriors DLC and more 3DS Smash. Sean finishes up Hitman Go, Layton/Wright, Forza Horizon 2 and starts up Hyrule Warriors. Paul tries out Alien: Isolation, A City Sleeps and The Evil Within. There's a big free weekend on Steam happening, Nintendo will now let you download and purchase games from their website and the PS TV is out and PS Now starts the beta for it and the Vita.
Jon played a record breaking number of games this time, he honestly just doesn't stop bringing them up. As much as we try he keeps going. Paul tries out Super Time Force Ultra, Hitman GO and more Dark Souls 2. Sean plays the Walking Dead season two finale and Halo Spartan Assault. There was a major 3DS Nintendo Direct that included the announcement of a new hardware model. We also discuss Super Meat Boy Forever, Run Sackboy! Run!'s announcement and Minecraft coming to the Xbox One.
We lose Jon to yet another convention since PAX is this weekend. Sean and Paul are left to reminisce. Paul goes back to DayZ and gets freaked out from Five Nights at Freddy's. Sean continues his necrodancing, gets quite confused with Invisible Inc and really enjoys Hitman Go.For news we talk about Amazon's purchase of Twitch, September's PS+ offers and interesting Mario Kart 8 DLC is revealed.

Unreal Tournament is coming back, and with it comes memories of The Matrix, Ed Edd and Eddy and a little bit of Mambo No 5. 1999 was a weird year you guys... On this episode... We Played... Lack of new games makes Euan go deep into weird indie. He starts to sour on Kentucky Route Zero, finishes rewiring Fract OSC and reads peoples brains in Stick it To The Man, with a dash of Hitman Go in there for good measure. Calum mines some asteroids to make spaceships in Survival Space Engineers, relives the bizarre story of Final Fantasy X-2 and falls off on Bravely Default, going from being one of the best games of the year, to one of the worst. In News... We talk about DOTA 2, The Internationals, and how this years Compendium might totally break the finely tuned economy of the game. Tomodachi Life gets same sex relationships patched out as a "bug", and Nintendo reacts both poorly then well in quick succession. Unreal Tournament returns as a free, community driven, moddable game. *heavy breathing* Zenimax wants a slice of the Oculus Rift pie based on the fact that John Romero jumped ship. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they now have some Facebook money to play with an Zenimax are feeling a bit left out of it. Not at all. There's a new Call of Duty coming this year (shocker), and it features a digital Kevin Spacey along with future guns and exo-skeletons. That terrible Early Access game Earth: Year 2066 gets pulled from Steam, and refunds are offered. Some good news comes Naughty Dogs way, with the lead animation director from Assassins Creed 3 joining the company.

Our dear friend Matt makes his triumphant return as we talk about Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, Fract, Hitman GO and more, then close with more letters about your abortive attempts at human relationships. This week's music, in order of appearance: Spoon - Two Sides Monsieur Valentine; Gonga (feat. Beth Gibbons) - Black Sabbath
Hitman Go is the latest, very stylish entry in the Hitman series of games and has been developed by Square Enix Montreal. They were originally in charge of developing Hitman 6, the sequel to Hitman Absolution, before restructuring at IO Interactive meant they took charge of the next iteration of the main series and left Square Enix Montreal holding the mobile baby; but with the satisfyingly simple use of ambient sounds and sporadic use of music, and a colour palette dominated by sumptuous reds, whites and blacks, what a beautiful baby it is!
This week we've got a smaller cast and a a lot of PAX catch up as we talk about Trials Fusion and Frontiers, discuss a new build Evolve, talk about Hitman Go and The Evil Within and more, then move on to letters.
