Screenwriter Andrew Henderson joins the show to talk about a Movies I Love That No One Talks About all-star, the prototype for the show, KILL LIST. This is a movie people don't look for, they hear about it, in awed whispers. It's a movie that will make you shout profanities at your television in shock, and (depending on your taste) unhinged glee at the madness and audacity of the storytelling. It's weirdly funny at times, nerve-shatteringly-tense at times, and a true original. If you're looking for something to watch late at night and don't plan on sleeping, throw this one on. Director Ben Wheatley has made one for the ages here. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dan-benamor/support

Could this be the most aptly titled film of the year so far? Perhaps, but aptitude is not the measure of a good movie. FREE FIRE is a an exercise in imprecise filmmaking. Director Ben Wheatley wanted to make a nasty, fun dark comedy that delights in watching it's characters brutally kill one another, but the shootout is sloppily directed. It's hard to get a sense of where the bullets are flying, and how many each shooter has before they run out. The film is full of great actors, but Wheatley doesn't seem to care about any of them. His last film, HIGH RISE (episode #223) was a similarly misanthropic mess. Phil would like to see Wheatley make a film that might betray his emotions; an earnest movie about people dear to his heart, rather than another violently ironic black comedy. Henry Gee joins the discussion. Director Ben Wheatley's latest work A Field In England sits squarely in the middle of the honourable tradition in British cinema of horror films set in the country.
