Sue Lambert survived her abusive childhood by numbing her pain with alcohol as she tried to live up to an idealized perfection standard.  Through pure guts and determination, Sue left home, did well at work, and started a family, but always felt that she was not “normal.” After undergoing surgery, Sue became addicted to pain pills in addition to her alcohol addiction, spiraled downwards, and eventually landed in prison. One of the classes she signed up for while incarcerated was with the Enneagram Prison Project. In this unlikeliest of places, she found a doorway to examine her ingrained ways of operating in the world and ultimately found hope.  Sue now knows true perfection lies within the imperfect.     Bio Sue Lambert is an Enneagram Prison Project (EPP) Ambassador. She is also a retired EPP Faculty Member and Guide, a Life Coach, certified ACE (adverse childhood experiences) trainer, an IEA (International Enneagram Association) Accredited Professional, and Certified Narrative Enneagram Teacher. Sue identifies with Type 1 on the Enneagram and is passionate and driven to support others as they navigate their personal growth and development post-incarceration. She finds joy and fulfillment in nurturing others to reach their highest potential. Sue lives with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids and is “Nanny Granny” to them all. She feels a strong connection to her essential self when she is outside and enjoying nature and animals (horses/dogs/wildlife), where she knows in her heart that everything is “perfect” the way it is. Sue learned about the Enneagram and EPP behind bars and exemplifies the work, inspiring people worldwide to find inner freedom. Sue's story includes what she describes as a dark time in her life, where she was also able to find light, and one of those light beams was the union she found with EPP, the Enneagram, and her true self, an impact she says saved her life. "I didn't expect something like this program to be in jail," says EPP participant Chantelle Peele. "It was very compassionate and understanding. And it came from a place of true caring. You can sense it right away when you walked in the room that the guides, and the facilitators cared, and they genuinely wanted to help." The Enneagram Prison Project uses a personality test called the Enneagram to facilitate trauma healing and self-awareness training for people in prison and jail. If you don't know what the Enneagram is, don't worry, we get into that in this episode... Featuring EPP participant Chantelle Peele and guides Leanne Schellenberg and Amanda Dodge. Born outside of Boston, raised in Hong Kong and Japan, and educated in England and California, she earned a BA in Sociology from Occidental College and has cultivated a compassionate interest in human behavior during her lifetime.  Susan brings her conviction that there is something inherently “good” in people to anyone in her presence. During her 15 years of developing self-awareness training for Fortune 500 executives, corporate teams, schools, and those experiencing incarceration, she became known for her compassionate approach to the Enneagram. In 2012 she founded Enneagram Prison Project (EPP): a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the self-awareness education of people who are incarcerated, now scaling around the globe.  While working with wildly diverse groups of people using the same insightful tool, Susan became convinced that the Enneagram has always been meant for everyone. In this episode, Mario Sikora, TJ Dawe and TJ Ingrassia are joined by special guests, Clay Tumey, author of “The Blue Chip Store: How Bank Robbery Changed My Life,” and Susan Olesek, founder of Enneagram Prison Project. The panel of five discuss the 1994 drama, “The Shawshank Redemption,” starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. With the film set in a prison, Clay draws from his experience in prison while Susan explores her work with incarcerated people and the Enneagram to not only look at the movie about a man who is wrongfully accused of murder, but to also examine it as a story of a person who's trapped in a personality.“I also thought that with this character captured better than almost anything I've seen about the Fives is the tenderness at the heart of the Type Five. This sweetness, this kindness that most people don't get to see because what they see is the detached piece.” - Mario Sikora [35:36]“There's so much generosity in the Five, and I love that you're highlighting it because I think that's why we love the Five so much.” - Susan Olesek [38:21]“I just didn't buy it from him in terms of feeling like he really meant it. It almost felt like he was more using that as a cover to just have power over people. But that could speak to his unhealthier… That's a way an unhealthy one would use some of that is they don't really believe it for themselves. They just believe it for other people or something.” - TJ Ingrassia [1:01:40]“Captain Hadley, he embodies everything that I appreciate about Type Eight, even when he's beating the hell out of people. The thing that I appreciate is I never have to wonder, almost never have to wonder where I stand with the Type Eight.” - Clay Tumey [1:08:07]“That got me thinking, this movie works as a metaphor for being in any life situation that you believe you're stuck in, and there's a better life somewhere on the horizon. “And I just feel that people, I now I have so much more perspective, but at the time, even I felt people who have already had so much adversity in their life. That's a big precursor to how people get behind bars. And then when they're there, I feel like that's the time to heal, but we have such a different mindset in our country and other countries do the same and such a punitive one. And that didn't, that's not how I am organized inside. That's not what feels right in me. And so I think right away, I saw how things could be different, but I also saw just the power of this tool in people's hands who were really starving to understand what was wrong in their lives and thinking there was something wrong with them. And, I just think my approach to the enneagram is that there's nothing wrong with any of us. Enneagram is a map to show us what's so right about us. And it felt like the, the most profound place to be figuring out how to teach it, which is what I was doing,” says Susan Olesek, founder of the Enneagram Prison Project, a non-profit dedicated to sharing the power of self-awareness education using the Enneagram system with those who have been imprisoned around the globe. An unapologetic idealist, and an enneagram Type One for those who are familiar with the system, Susan joins us today to share her compassionate approach to the Enneagram, honed over 15 years of engaging with Fortune 500 executives, corporate teams, schools and those experiencing incarceration. She recently founded  The Human Potentialists (THP) a Benefit Corporation with a vision to democratize the Enneagram, and whose mission is guiding people to their highest potential while connecting them to the core of our shared humanity. She views the Enneagram as an insightful tool meant to guide all of us to our highest potential, convinced that people are inherently good and encouraging us to see the possibilities that lie beyond our “personality.” Susan takes us through the potential and pitfalls of each Enneagram type, reminding us that it is vulnerable work to look deeply at ourselves in order to see and break free from the prison of our design. powercoachjen.com Boundaries are so important. Sometime we struggle to set them and sometimes we go to the opposite extreme and put up stone walls. But if we are meant for community, how do we know where to draw the line and when to adjust the line?  In today's episode, I'm talking to Professional Development Coach Donna Woodrow, who is also the Director of the Enneagram Prison Project in Australia. She shares with us how as a Type 9 she learned the hard way about setting boundaries and what she does now to keep herself in check. She also shares about how EPP uses the Enneagram to help transform lives on both sides of the bars through self-awareness, self regulation and self compassion. And in doing the work together… building a living community of Compassion and Grace. More on Donna:Donna is the other half of the Modo Coaching & Training Partnership, and also shares the duties of Managing Director. Having followed somewhat in her sister's footsteps, Donna has trained with some of the world's leading experts in the Enneagram, Meta-Coaching and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Prior to "finding herself" Donna's career consisted of building databases and supporting the IT needs of global Fortune 500 companies. After spending over 10 years in the corporate environment and seeing firsthand the great potential and the challenges of human behaviour, Donna takes a genuine interest in the collective and personal growth of the human race and its individuals.Donna is a seeker who loves to travel and invests considerable time in her own personal growth. It's no wonder that she has travelled the world to train and be trained in a range of business and personal development areas. Donna believes strongly in the unlimited potential of all human beings and loves working with individuals who are not afraid to look deeply within themselves - and because she is aware of the courage it takes to look within, Donna provides a safe coaching space without judgement, whilst still keeping it real to support your growth.Self-identified as a Type 9 on the Enneagram, Donna is an accepting, reassuring and supportive Coach, and in the training room she is skilled at harmonising groups and bringing people together. It's Donna's vision, to see a world which holds compassion and acceptance for the disaster and delight of personality that is within us all.https://modocoaching.com.au/It's finally here!!The Enneagram App for Entrepreneurs is a PWA (Progressive Web App) which is all the craze now.
