Antwanette Weaver is the Executive Director and co-founder of A Bold Story Never Ends, an organization inspired by the loss of her son, Cameron, to suicide in 2020. As a licensed therapist and a grieving mother, Weaver channels her pain into purpose by advocating for mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and providing support to families facing similar struggles. The organization, founded with her daughter and sister, began with a scholarship initiative for high school students overcoming challenges and has since expanded to community events, resource provision, and outreach programs. By sharing her personal journey and Cameron's story, Weaver seeks to foster open conversations about mental health and provide tangible resources to those in need. Central to the mission of A Bold Story Never Ends is addressing the unique challenges faced by underserved groups, such as men and young people. Weaver emphasizes the importance of early intervention and mental health education for children, aiming to create a generational shift in the way mental health is perceived and addressed. The organization also prioritizes men's mental health, recognizing the heightened stigma they face and its impact on families. In addition to their annual community events, scholarship programs, and therapy support, Weaver and her team have launched new initiatives, such as a podcast titled Bold Discussions, to explore grief, trauma, and healing. With a vision of expanding their reach across the U.S., Weaver remains committed to growing the organization, increasing its impact, and ensuring mental health resources are accessible to all.

A guide to the fascinating legal history of the videogame industry, written for nonlawyers. Why did a judge recall FIFA 15, a nonviolent soccer game, from French shelves in 2014? Why was Vodka Drunkenski, a character in Nintendo-Japan's Punch-Out!, renamed Soda Popinski in the US and then in Western Europe, where the pun made no sense? Why was a Dutch-American company barred by US courts from distributing a clone of Pac-Man? Julien Mailland answers all these questions and more in The Game That Never Ends: How Lawyers Shape the Videogame Industry (MIT Press, 2024), an inside look at the legal history that undergirds our favorite videogames. Drawing on a series of case studies as vignettes of the human comedy, Mailland sheds light on why and how the role of lawyers is key for understanding the videogame industry. Each chapter in The Game That Never Ends is a mini-puzzle that pieces together how an important legal issue arose, was resolved, and impacted the industry and the experience of gamers in real time. These chapters are interspersed with shorter chapters called “The Lawyer's Corner,” opportunities to dive deeper into individual cases. Lightly footnoted, these interludes connect the previous chapters together by providing a conceptual meta-analysis. Offering a comprehensive overview of the global legal history of videogames, The Game That Never Ends will leave readers with a nuanced, in-depth, and more global understanding of the videogame industry. The prophet Isaiah foretold the coming of the Messiah over 700 years before Jesus' birth. One of the descriptions he gave to Jesus was that He is our “Everlasting Father.” This means that His Father's love for His children will have no end. This is remarkable since many of the world's ancient gods did not describe themselves as a loving father. The God of the Bible, on the other hand, is repeatedly described as a loving father. Through his career he was assigned to many locations to include offices in New York, Boson, Cleveland, Ohio, and Providence, RI. Early on in his career when Dan was in Cleveland he was asked to assist in a new study where they studied the effects that Vietnam has on Veterans, especially during the years Dan had served. After about a year of working alongside Dr. John Wilson and the staff at Cleveland State University interviewing a lot of veterans Dr. Wilson came out with the diagnosis of PTSD. The interesting part about that was the VA still didn't recognize the condition. DAV had to legislatively add that not only to the DSM 3 for psychiatric diagnoses but also had to get legislatively activated within VA's compensation rules.
Send us a textIn this episode, hosts Scott Kuhlman and Chasity Owens welcome Investigator Justin Buckingham, a Battalion Chief and fire investigator with over 27 years of fire service experience. Recording from the California Conference of Arson Investigators' 70th-anniversary seminar, Justin shares the first part of a compelling case study about the Hopkins Fire that occurred in September 2021.The case begins with Justin responding to what started as a small quarter-acre vegetation fire that quickly grew to consume 257 acres, destroying 34 houses and over 50 total structures. As the investigation unfolds, Justin details the methodical process of determining the fire's origin, using techniques like examining backing and advancing indicators, and employing tools like the "bulb syringe" for detailed examination of the scene. Surveillance footage from a nearby trucking yard proved crucial, showing a suspect with distinctive features making multiple trips to the area before the fire started.Through a series of fortunate circumstances, including a chance encounter with the suspect immediately after reviewing the footage, law enforcement was able to identify and apprehend the suspect, Devin Johnson. The investigation led to multiple interviews and a complex legal process spanning several years, complicated by mental competency hearings and changes of venue. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with the jury deliberating after a challenging trial presentation. The hosts also discuss upcoming training events, including seminars in Idaho, Mississippi, and Ohio where they will be presenting on artificial intelligence in fire investigation. The episode concludes with their regular segment reviewing a five-star listener review and introducing the word "deflagration" for the next episode's vocabulary discussion. Migration was - once again - at the heart of discussions at the latest EU leaders summit, as the issue has been taking on new dimensions across the continent. This renewed focus on migration comes after the far-right made gains in the European Parliament, in various elections in Germany and Austria, and follows the opening of Italy's controversial offshore detention centers in Albania. Angeliki Dimitriadi, a Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Migration Program at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), joins Thanos Davelis to explore how migration is once again challenging EU leaders, and break down what the path forward looks like.Given the political landscape in Europe right now, how do you see this issue evolving?Von der Leyen promises more deportations as EU veers right on migrationGreece sceptical about EU outsourcing asylum seekersEU seeks to accelerate return of migrantsAlbania says only Italy is allowed to operate migrant asylum centers in the countryItaly's offshore detention centers in Albania open for businessErdoğan's arch enemy Fethullah Gülen dies, reports sayPyatt underscores Greece's leadership role in energy security
In this episode of She's Not Done Yet: Conversations with women over 50, I (Becky Berry) talk with Beverly Pimsleur. After listening to the podcast, Beverly reached out to me to share her story. Beverly is the embodiment of She's Not Done Yet. She's in her late 70's, has written a memoir and is looking for an agent, and is keeping busy as an activist for the Democratic Party. We had a wide ranging conversation covering the political situation in the Ohio college where she was a professor after the Kent State massacre (1972), widowhood, taking over her husband's business as a widow in the 80's, the importance of constant activism, and we compare abortion stories that happened across a generation (Beverly's in 1962 and mine in 1982). We decided that there's no arc to activism, instead, it's a straight line in the geometric sense - the line never ends. Thanks in Advance for your help: I hope you enjoy this episode. Often times we think because we are great craftspeople that those skills mean we are good at our business. He received his MBA from Columbia University and was quickly recruited by one of the world's largest sovereign wealth funds, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) in 1997. It was shortly after accepting the position that he and his wife were confronted with an extreme life event that shook the very foundation of all their hopes and dreams. Desiree, his wife, while pursuing an MD/ Ph.D. was diagnosed with Stage 3B breast cancer right before her 31st birthday. Despite their trials, both Robert and Desiree thrived. Unfortunately, in 2009, after an 11-year valiant battle, Desiree succumbed to metastatic breast cancer. In 2014, Robert decided to leave his comfort zone to pursue what he deemed to be a more purposeful path. Throwing caution to the wind, he pursued a childhood dream to live in Italy and a passion born while caring for his wife, to become a Life Coach. He now lives in the same Italian village his great grandfather immigrated from over 100 years ago and is a certified life coach, adjunct professor and international guest speaker.
