The Andy Riesmeyer Show Hour 4 (6.12) Let’s get some more Solo to Solo in with our musical listeners from throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. Andy welcomes in-studio guest Woodrow “Packman” Landfair — former NCAA baseball champion, globe-trotting surfer, and the unofficial mayor of Manhattan Beach’s El Porto. Packman, who sold all his stuff to ride a motorcycle across all 48 states, shares epic stories from his journey and his new book “Road Journals: 48 States. One Ride,” a modern-day Jack Kerouac adventure. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Andy Riesmeyer Show Hour 2 (6.12) In the 7PM hour, Andy Riesmeyer welcomes in-studio guest Woodrow “Packman” Landfair — former NCAA baseball champion, world surfer, and the unofficial mayor of Manhattan Beach’s El Porto neighborhood. Packman, who sold all his possessions to ride a motorcycle across America, talks about his latest book “Road Journals: 48 States. One Ride,” living like a modern-day Jack Kerouac while running his local surf shop and slinging surfboards and booze. The conversation then spirals into total chaos as listeners passionately debate the best way to cut sandwiches, complete with the crew hilariously trying (and failing) at Philadelphia and Pittsburgh accents. The hour finishes with a look at why some women in New York are choosing to live with nuns to escape insane rents, plus Crozier recounting the time he went undercover as a twink in Hugh Grant land. Welcome to the PRmoment podcast and on the show today we're chatting to Jim Donaldson about the news that WPP might sell Burson.Previously Jim was CEO UK and Middle East at Fleishman and held senior roles at both Weber Shandwick and Hill & Knowlton. He is now a non-exec to a raft of independent PR firms including Woodrow, Schon&Co and Matlin PR.Before we start, don't miss our new PR Masterclass: AI in PR.Check out the full speaker line-up at https://www.prmasterclasses.com/masterclass/pr-masterclasses-ai-in-prAt PRmoment we usually let these industry navel gazing moments go, as most of the time, the news has been widely covered elsewhere but I've found the level of paranoid PR commentary linking PR's future to the Burson deal pretty nauseating.I get the need for self appointed PR thought leaders to feed the algorithms but much of the analysis of this potential deal seems ill informed.PRmoment founder Ben Smith put this alternative scenario to ex WPP and Omnicom executive Jim Donaldson about the reasons behind WPP's plans to sell Burson:WPP needs to grow.It still has quite a bit of debt (total net debt £2.17 billion) and its revenue has decreased in recent years. Sources: https://www.spglobal.com/ratings/en/regulatory/article/-/view/type/HTML/id/3530066 and https://www.fidelity.co.uk/factsheet-data/factsheet/JE00B8KF9B49-wpp-plc/financialsCirca 84% of WWP's revenue comes from ad agencies, which it now calls its Global Integrated Agencies. PR is 9%. (including Ogilvy PR and Burson.) https://markets.ft.com/data/announce/detail?dockey=1323-17477290-1Q8TEVR2NNFQVT91FOUCPOQ2BFAd agencies' market has been decimated by the social media owners and they are petrified about what AI is likely to do to their business models.None of the WPP board have any PR experience, and frankly, they've got bigger problems right now. https://www.wpp.com/en/about/our-leadership/the-wpp-boardBurson is a potentially salable asset and WPP can then use those funds to invest in the renewal of its main source of revenue - advertsing agencies. Here's a summary of what Jim Donaldson and PRmoment founder Ben Smith discussed:Does Jim agree with our alternative hypothesis to the reasons WPP might sell Burson?Jim identifies the "huge market shifts" impacting the marketing holding groups currently. Was WPP always a reluctant PR firm owner? Many of the deals where Sorrell acquired a PR firm, included a larger ad agency and the PR firm was a much smaller part of the deal. How salable is Burson as an asset? Does it have growing or declining revenues?Jim describes the holding groups as “a side show” to the most important, mainly positive trends happening in PR at the moment.

From Robert Duvall's legacy and impact on Westerns to Adventures with me, Rebecca Wanner aka BEC to then insight on why March is the best month to visit Yellowstone National Park. Stories of the West, travel, and adventure are on the schedule! Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka ‘BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Honoring the Godfather of Westerns, Exploring Life on the Trail with Rebecca Wanner, and Discovering the Best Time to Visit Yellowstone National Park Robert Duvall (1931–2026): The Godfather of Westerns Robert Duvall, 1931 - 2026, passed at age 95 on his horse farm in Virginia. Leaving a legacy on the silver screen from To Kill A Mocking Bird, The Godfather, to winning an Oscar for Tender Mercies… He had a love for westerns and horsemanship. Early in his career, Duvall noticed that actors in movies didn't have the right “seat” when riding horses and hence stunt doubles were relied upon. On his own accord, Duvall took up horseback riding and learning from those that taught stunt doubles, proper horsemanship which led to him owning a farm, raising horses and performing his own stunts for the movies. Thanks to movies such as a cameo in the original “True Grit” to the epic mini-series “Lonesome Dove” and “Open Range”... Some have dubbed Robert Duvall as the Godfather of Westerns. How well do you know our, by far, favorite movie - Lonesome Dove where Duvall played Captain Augustus “Gus” McCrae, a Texas Ranger turned cattle rancher, a role that would earn him a Golden Globe How old was Robert Duvall during the production of Lonesome Dove? 58 years old Duvall starred alongside which actor in the epic Western Lonesome Dove? Tommy Lee Jones Tommy Lee Jones, another actor who was an experienced horseman that refused to use a stunt double in the movie. Favorite "Lonesome Dove" quotes by Augustus 'Gus' McCrae, Robert Duvall “It ain't dying I'm talking about, it's living.” “We don't rent pigs” "Any man who does rent pigs is....... he's hard to stop." "By God, Woodrow, it's been quite a party." “Ain't nothing better than riding a fine horse in new country.” Another favorite movie that introduced Robert Duvall to a whole new generation was “Secondhand Lion”. Highly recommended family film… and a quote that stands out from these old bachelor uncles was Duvall, “We're old, Damnit. Leave us alone.” Adventures of Rebecca Wanner aka BEC Our host, Rebecca 'BEC' Wanner, of The Bend Show shares adventures on her bucket list and stories of past adventures. We learn that she has a fear of heights, so flying an ultra-light plane will not be happening. Rebecca Wanner aka BEC has done snorkeling and hopes to gain her scuba license some day. Adventure wise she shares her own version of Planes, Train, & Automobiles when attempting to fly home from a summer abroad only to be left backpacking, hopping trains, outrunning security guards to finally find her way home at the age of 20 before smartphones thus no cellphones either. Fun Stories! YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK: Why is March the best month to visit? Spring is when bison calves are born, and bears with cubs start to emerge from hibernation. The vegetation in March is still thin, so elk and moose are easier to spot. March is also one of the best months to see wolves in Lamar Valley. Plus no crowds, due to chances for snow and colder temperatures. Open year-round: North Entrance (Gardiner, MT) to Northeast Entrance (Cooke City, MT) A quick google search will show that there are multiple tours throughout the off-season in Yellowstone. Because interior park roads are closed to private vehicles, popular guided options include snow coach tours, snowmobile tours, and educational wildlife safaris. Same goes for visiting the Grand Tetons. Sit back, do a tour and take in the scenery! OUTDOORS FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS We want to hear from you! AI is everywhere right now and for a lot of nonprofit leaders, it feels equal parts exciting and overwhelming. In this episode, Woodrow Rosenbaum Chief Data Officer, GivingTuesday) and Elizabeth Kelly (Head of Beneficial Deployments, Anthropic) bring in a refreshing, human-first conversation about what it actually means to build AI fluency in the nonprofit sector. This isn't about becoming a prompt expert or chasing the latest tool. It's about learning when AI can help, when it can't, and how to use it responsibly in ways that strengthen trust, decision-making, and mission impact. Together, they unpack why AI fluency is quickly becoming the new digital literacy and how nonprofits can move forward without fear, hype, or burnout. You'll walk away with practical insights on how to:Shift from “should we use AI?” to “how do we use it responsibly and well?”Build AI fluency as an organizational muscle, not a one-time trainingStart small with AI by improving one painful workflow at a timePut guardrails in place around privacy, bias, and human reviewAvoid using AI just to do the same work faster and instead focus on better outcomesCreate shared learning and trust so teams experiment without fearIf you've been waiting for permission to go slow, ask better questions, and lead with intention, this one's for you.Episode Highlights: Understanding AI Fluency and Its Importance (02:17)The Role of Data in Nonprofit AI Adoption (05:10)Real-World Applications of AI in Nonprofits (07:40)Launching Claude for Nonprofits (10:38)Building Trust and Responsible AI Use (13:24)Governance and Oversight in AI Implementation (16:27)Elizabeth + Woodrow One Good Thing (22:54)Dive Deeper: AI Fluency Course (Anthropic)Fundraising.aiEpisode Shownotes: www.weareforgood.com/episode/675Save your free seat at the We Are For Good Summit

In this episode of Kentucky History & Haunts, we head back to August 1925—a month of sensational scandals and small-town crime sprees that made big headlines.First, you'll hear the wild tale of Lucy Wagner McMills, a young woman accused of kidnapping her husband and tricking him into marriage after a whirlwind romance. Newspapers from Kentucky to New York branded her a “Modern Cavewoman,” while her groom swore he'd been too drunk to know he was saying “I do.”Then, we dive into the chaotic, decades-long saga of the Alford family of Winchester, known as “the Bootleg Syndicate” during Prohibition. From barn raids to shootouts, jailbreaks to safe-cracking, the Alfords' rap sheets stretched across generations. George Alford was dubbed the Bootleg King of the Bluegrass, while his children—including Virgil, Tommy, and Woodrow—made headlines for everything from moonshining to armed robbery. This episode has it all: star-crossed lovers, outlaw families, jailbreaks, scandals, and tragedy.

A few episodes ago, episode 212, I conversed with John Beggs about how criticality might be an important dynamic regime of brain function to optimize our cognition and behavior. Today we continue and extend that exploration with a few other folks in the criticality world. Woodrow Shew is a professor and runs the Shew Lab at the University of Arkansas. Keith Hengen is an associate professor and runs the Hengen Lab at Washington University in St. Louis Missouri. Together, they are Hengen and Shew on a recent review paper in Neuron, titled Is criticality a unified setpoint of brain function? In the review they argue that criticality is a kind of homeostatic goal of neural activity, describing multiple properties and signatures of criticality, they discuss multiple testable predictions of their thesis, and they address the historical and current controversies surrounding criticality in the brain, surveying what Woody thinks is all the past studies on criticality, which is over 300. And they offer a account of why many of these past studies did not find criticality, but looking through a modern lens they most likely would. We discuss some of the topics in their paper, but we also dance around their current thoughts about things like the nature and implications of being nearer and farther from critical dynamics, the relation between criticality and neural manifolds, and a lot more. You get to experience Woody and Keith thinking in real time about these things, which I hope you appreciate. Shew Lab. Hengen Lab. In the episode, “A Lived Experience Dialogue: Facing Our Pasts, Reinventing Our Futures with Tom Woodrow and Mike Panasitti (S6, E7),” I sit with two success stories of people who have suffered with forms of mental illness who have come out on the other side. Part 1:When Tom Woodrow was 17, his life took a sharp turn. During a road trip with friends, Tom experienced his first manic episode, and subsequently ended up in a psychiatric hospital-misdiagnosed with depression and subjected to electroshock therapy. After years of struggling, and after nearly losing his life in India during a volunteer trip, he met two counselors from a mental health charity, who taught him to manage moods, avoid triggers, and stay well with skills that have kept him stable for 20 years. Today he helps others who also live with bipolar disorder, understanding how overwhelming it can be. He offers support programs that help people manage their symptoms and lead fulfilling lives. To learn more about Tom, follow him at: Instagram: @bipolarwithyouPart 2:Mike Panasitti was born in East Los Angeles in 1969 and is a graduate of UC Berkeley and a former patient of California's Department of State Hospitals. From 2015 to 2018 he was a prisoner at New Folsom, a maximum security prison near Sacramento. Mike is now an exhibiting artist, as well as a poet and prose writer whose publishing credits include poems in Matter, creative non-fiction in WALL Literary Journal, and over 40 short stories posted on Reedsy Prompts. He currently lives in the city of Santa Ana and is enrolled as a student of creative writing at Saddleback College. Mike shares how he become acquainted with the mental health industrial complex and bravely reveals what he's learned from prolonged institutionalization. Envisioning a new path, Mike is committe3d to making his dreams come true as a professional artist and writer. M. Woodrow Johnston II is the CEO and Lead Strategist of Revere Solutions LLC, a political consulting firm renowned for empowering underdog conservative candidates to achieve remarkable victories. With over a decade of experience in political consulting and marketing, Woodrow has orchestrated campaigns across the nation, from city council races to presidential elections. Formerly the Senior Vice President at McShane LLC—the fastest-growing political consulting firm globally for two consecutive years according to INC. Magazine—he oversaw 53 awards for campaign excellence and contributed to over 180 campaign victories. Woodrow's innovative, data-driven strategies focus on mobilizing the conservative base rather than attempting to sway undecided voters. Suspicious foreigners arrested without warrants. The suppression of free speech in the name of national security. Civil liberties shredded in a climate of hysteria. During and immediately after the First World War, the federal government under President Woodrow Wilson and ordinary patriotic Americans enforced conformity and loyalty while hunting for dangerous subversives and radical anarchists. Today, the Trump administration is abrogating the First Amendment for foreign students and deporting suspected Latin American gang members without due process. In this episode, historian Michael Kazin delves into parallels between past and present, the continuities in the American tradition of repression of civil liberties. Prayer, Love, Unity, Respect: in this topical episode of popular 90s/y2k era TV drama TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL, angel-in-training Gloria goes to a rave and actually does ecstasy with the human teen boy she's supposed to be protecting. Raves were a huge point of anxiety in pop culture in the y2k era. Although their colorful futurism and utopian optimism inspired a generation of media and fashion, people also had safety concerns about the newfound popularity of club drugs like ecstasy, leading to a large-scale moral panic. In the U.S. in 2003, then-Senator Joe Biden co-sponsored the RAVE Act (Reducing American's Vulnerability to Ecstasy) aimed at bringing harsh legal punishment not just to drug dealers but also party promotors. It's no wonder then that the writers of TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL felt they had to get the angels to mission to ravers directly: rave media is great fodder for exploitation, titillating with radical imagery only to deliver an anti-fun message. In HEAVEN'S PORTAL, angels Tess, Monica, Andrew, and Gloria meet a teen named Nick who is upset with his parents' separation and has taken to smoking weed and looking at websites about techno. When he gets info about rave 40 miles away, he drives there with the gullible Gloria, who was only crated by God recently and knows little about the world. Immediately, friendly ravers in silly costumes hand them pills to try. What happens when an angel takes ecstasy? Does the world end? We invite our good friend Woodrow White, an artist and scholar of rave-themed media, to return to the show to debate moral dilemmas about raves, pleasure, and sin. In this episode, guest host Anne Louise Wagner and Honor Woodrow (Winston Prouty Center) discuss the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education, emphasizing the importance of viewing children as capable and competent learners. They explore how the environment plays a crucial role in facilitating learning and how educators can create engaging spaces that promote exploration and play. The conversation also touches on the challenges educators face in adopting child-led learning approaches within structured educational systems, highlighting the need for balance between freedom and structure in teaching. This conversation explores the themes of trust, risk, empowerment, and conflict resolution in education. The speakers discuss the importance of allowing children to take risks in their learning, the biases educators may hold, and the concept of 'lighthouse parenting' as a guiding philosophy. They emphasize the value of conflict as a learning tool and the emotional aspects of education, advocating for a supportive environment where all emotions are valid and children have the right to learn and express themselves. The Reggio Emilia approach emphasizes children's capabilities from birth. Learning is co-constructed through play and exploration. The environment should be intentionally designed to foster learning. Facilitators must be responsive to children's interests and needs. Child-led learning does not mean a lack of structure. Cultural context influences educational practices and philosophies. Educators face challenges in letting go of control in the classroom. Documentation of learning processes is essential for reflection. Building relationships is key to effective learning environments. The goal is to support children in becoming healthy members of society. Trust is essential in educational settings. Risk-taking is a crucial part of learning. Educators must be prepared for potential risks. Children need to experience challenges to learn effectively. Biases can be positive and aligned with values. Empowerment and autonomy are key in education. Lighthouse parenting offers a balanced approach. Conflict can be a valuable learning opportunity. Emotional experiences are integral to learning. All children have the right to learn and express emotions.
